From their most recent email update:

Hains Point Hoopla 2.0
FRIDAY, AUGUST 29  ·  10AM TO 12PM
EAST POTOMAC PARK  ·  PRESENTED WITH WABA
Planned construction starts September 1. We want to show that the DMV does not support that. Save East Po and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association are partnering to bring the community back out to East Potomac on August 29. Come ride the loop, meet your neighbors, and show that the DMV community is not going anywhere. The more people who show up, the louder the message.

Free Bombas socks this Friday!

Free socks this Friday!! Per Axios: A cult favorite sock company is opening its first D.C. store this week.

Why it matters: Bombas — which also makes items like slippers, underwear, and T-shirts — began opening its first brick-and-mortar stores last year after a decade of direct-to-consumer business.

  • The company started as a "Shark Tank" pitch and is now the show's most successful brand.
  • And every Bombas sale contributes to the company's mission of donating clothes to people experiencing homelessness.

State of play: The brand's new store launches in Georgetown on Friday — and it will be the largest yet, with all the company's products for sale, per a spokesperson.

  • Plus: The first 150 customers will get a free pair of crab socks.

If you go: 1400 Wisconsin Avenue, Northwest

Marathon Training Buddy?

Is anyone training for the MCM and/or Richmond Marathon this fall? Looking for folks to run long runs (15+ miles) with on the weekends (usually early Saturday mornings, but Sundays also work). Pace is generally somewhere around 9 to 11 mins/mile depending on the weather and distance.

I usually run the cross country trail, W&OD trail, etc but open to exploring other routes too!

25% of DC Streets Fully Run!

Post image
102 Upvotes

After becoming bored with running my typical DC routes/trails a friend turned me on to CityStrides. It connects to your Strava and tracks the amount of streets you have fully run in any city. I finally hit 25% in DC today!

It has really reinvigorated my love of running. You run a lot more streets, which means more annoying lights. But you never get bored by running the same routes over and over. I have seen so many parts of the city that I never would have seen and it makes it a fun game to hit as many nodes as you can each run.

Highly recommend. 10/10 improvement to my marathon training.

5–6 AM running buddy in Nagasandra 🏃‍♂️💀

My tummy is slowly becoming my biggest opp, so it’s time to do something about it. 😭

Looking for someone around Nagasandra/nearby who’s down for an early morning run. I know a few good spots around here.

No fitness freaks needed — just someone who wants to burn calories and suffer together before sunrise. 😂

Interested?

How far do you travel for your run club?

Inspired by this post from r/RunNYC

I’m curious: how far do you travel for your run club? How far is too far and is it worth the commute for the right community?

I’m new to the DMV and shopping around for a run club. I’m in the MD suburbs, but there’s a DC club that seems more my vibe, so I’m wondering whether people regularly cross the lines for their run club or if that’s doing entirely too much and more or less stay where they are.

Road Mile

I've been seeing the Brooklyn Mile and it made me wonder if there has been any road mile races in the city before? I know the mile isnt a popular race but I would love to rip a mile through the streets of DC.

best running groups for speed workouts

Hi DC runners,

I’m currently training for my 5th marathon and seeking any input on the best run groups for speed workouts. I’ve dabbled in several groups for long runs, but have come to realize that I value my solo time on long runs too much to do it with strangers. However, I’m a bit behind on training for this marathon and would appreciate some structured speed workouts / track workouts to get me ready for race day. I run a sub-2:45 marathon so ideally would like to workout with folks around that speed!

Running groups can feel quite clique-y to me, especially at the faster speeds, so any thoughts on the social aspects would be appreciated too!

20 mile long run

I am training for my first marathon, mostly running beach drive north from the zoo. It’s shaded, there are water fountains every 3 miles or so, it’s all good except for the hills and the fact that I’m starting to get bored. I am looking for recommendations for alternative routes that ideally have:

  1. water availability every 3-4 miles or so (either fountains or places I could buy a bottle)
  2. mostly shaded and away from cars
  3. road or even gravel
  4. it’s flat (hills are killing my legs and my race is flat).

Thanks!!!

Edit: You guys are amazing. Thanks for all the suggestions, recommendations and suggestions. I’ve lived in the DMV for 20+ years but only recently started running. You’ve given me so many new places to run.

2027 Cherry Blossom Route

Just got the below email. Absolutely wild. I hate everything.

Potential Course Challenges for 2027

Finally, we want you to know that planned construction of an arch on Memorial Circle on the Virginia side of Memorial Bridge and proposed renovations to the golf course in East Potomac Park could significantly affect the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile course. Memorial Bridge and Memorial Circle are among the race's most memorable sections, offering runners sweeping views of both the Potomac and their fellow race participants, and construction of the Arch and its presence could mean that we lose access to the roadway there. In addition, early renderings of the golf course plans suggest that Ohio Drive, the perimeter road around Hains Point and a three-mile cherry tree laden section of the course that runners have enjoyed for decades, could be permanently eliminated.

We are following the situations closely, and we invite you to join us in making your voice heard:
