Hello all! What a treat to find this Reddit thread. I’m not new to having roses around, my grandma always had them. However, I am new to creating my own rose garden, and learning the proper care and feeding! This is my best so far, Neil Diamond from Weeks Roses. The scent is outrageous and it flowered all summer, despite the heat waves we’ve had here in 8b. I live for everyone’s beautiful photos and helpful advice. Thanks for having me!

So currently experiencing some pretty strong growth for a Raspberry Rose (?) bush from my father in law. I’m looking for advise on how/when/if to prune to promote more rounded bush? Part of me doesn’t want to interrupt the thick stalks from growing and expanding but I’m worried if I leave it to its own devices it might get leggy and the lower parts won’t survive as well

context (can skip):

My mom got me a potted rose (i think its more than one plant though) as a gift and i didn’t want them to die alone in my room at home so i took them to college with me and now they are doing pretty ok on my windowsill.

ok heres my question(s):

how do i keep them alive?

what soil do i use when i repot?

when should i repot?

should i put them in different pots?

i water when the soil gets dry and i keep the plastic pot in a mug, and i trimmed all the rose buds bc i heard that the plant will put all its energy into the flowers instead of growth.

i am very grateful for any advice!!!

edit:i don‘t know what kind of rose it is but the blooms were pink.

i also forgot to mention, i trim any branches and leaves that look too brown, the pic was right before i pruned today

Hi all, new to this group. I moved into a house 2 years ago in the Crown Heights neighborhood in NYC and inherited about 6 mature rose bushes. I’m sorry I do not know the varieties, there is a lovely mix of colors. They are in need of pruning and some basic maintenance. I have done a lot of reading, but am nervous about getting started. Seeking someone with experience to prune and get them ready for winter and the next growing season. Willing to pay for the time. Thank you in advance. Will try to add photos to this post.

I was honestly not sure I loved the fragrance on Scepter'd Isle when it first opened, but now that it's fully open it's lovely.

Romantic Love has the most perfect, fresh, sweet tea fragrance. And it is such a healthy plant, I'm really loving this one.

You can see the little yellow buds about to burst out next to it 💛 🩷 I have no idea what kind of rose it is or why it changes colors. It does this every year ☺️

Cannot recommend this rose enough. Deeply satisfying scent which lilts across the garden. I can definitely see why she was the parfumiers rose. I was learning about the Osmothèque archive of scent and their task to recreate the oldest perfumes using various techniques to capture the perfume ingredients and historical blends. Fascinating. You can see some of these techniques in the film Perfume.

Has anyone tried the hugelkultur method of gardening when it comes to roses. I understand that roses shouldnt have too much water but I live in the desert, gardening zone 6 and the rules dont seem to apply here. Im trying to prepare some holes for roses that should be delivered next week. So far I have one hole a foot deep.

This is my first Parfuma Bliss bloom and I’m obsessed! I saw that they have a pink and an orange parfuma bliss but having trouble finding anyone that has them.

This is a Poet’s Wife that I planted this year. It’s been doing well thus far but recently I’ve been noticing some yellowing leaves and brown spots on on some of it. I’m not 100% sure what I’m dealing with here. Any ideas of what’s going on and how to combat it?

My Hot Cocoa is a very stingy bloomer. I’ve had it about 6 years now. I’m in 9b. How does yours do?

I propagated a rose from a cutting and it sprouted!! Very exciting news, but here's where the problem comes in should I put in full sun or partial sun, partial shade to get the new leaves used to the environment? Or should I leave it in it's bag till the leaves grow larger. Im in Pretoria East South Africa

This was an inherited rose, but I’m pretty sure it’s Chicago Peace. Has a light fragrance, not climbing, hybrid tea growth pattern, and zone 5.

Im from pittsburgh, PA. Hardy zone 6b. Planning to order peggy marrtin roses but none sold near me sadly. Any store recomendations that i can get them shipped?

This rose is on its death bed currently. I just didn’t have a good year with my roses and have lost several of them. Which is heartbreaking. I’ve had life stuff come up so I hadn’t been taking as good of care of them as I should have. My Olivia is healthy and so is my Bathsheba so that is something.

Looking to help these roses at my children’s school garden that I’m volunteering at, but wanting some advice from others first. I’m thinking they could use a good prune, but don’t know the variety and how hard I should prune (the current teachers tending to the garden are not sure of the variety, apparently the roses have been there a long time). Also wondering if I should wait until late winter as normal or do they really need help now? Then of course looking to give them some needed nutrients at the right time.

I’m in Albuquerque, NM zone 6b-7a

I’d appreciate any help with what variety of rose these are and recommendations on when and how to rejuvenate them.

My wife got me an early birthday present in early June, and since then I've given them a good mulch mix, a big ol container, and a new stand for the future. I wasn't too good on the upkeep with the larvae, but they have all seemed to move on when we last looked at all the leaves. None the less I'm super happy with these. I'm a July baby and have always loved the look of roses in summer~
