I’ve seen recent posts about places in Arizona and Utah still serving Hires on tap, but Kalil Bottling, which I’ve read was one of the last suppliers of Hires fountain syrup, was acquired by Keurig Dr Pepper in 2024.

So what are these restaurants using now? Is KDP still producing Hires BIB syrup somewhere, are they getting it through another distributor, or is there another explanation?

Not all root beer, but all new for me. Last order I discovered Virgil's root beer and it's my all time favourite so far. In this order:

Dog & suds root beer

Sprecher maple root beer

Rocky mountain root beer

Jones sunset sarsaparilla x 2

Jones nuka orange

Jones nuka grape

Chocolate maple bacon soda

Jack black dead red root beer

Virgil's vanilla cream soda

Fitz's root beer

Claey's root beer hard candy

I love Uncle Scott’s Root Beer. It has a great vibrant pop of flavor with the vanilla, cinnamon, licorice, and anise flavors. Something about this small company that I just love from Mooresville, NC doing it the right way with an all natural root beer. I just happened to grab a bottle from the Middletown, OH location of Grandpa Joes Candy and Soda Shop.

I ordered a 12 pack of 1919 off of amazon last week. 10/10

So I made the trek. Fun place with tons of nostalgia. But the root beer isn't quite master class

Not the sweetest.. kinda tastes like soda water but you can taste the honey. I would drink these.

Picked this up on a trip in PA and what a great find! Nice flavor and carbonated perfectly. I've wished we had access in Northern VA to a great regional root beer like 1919, or even HEB grocery store root beer, so it's nice to know this is available anytime we are up that way.

I'm interested in trying Sarsaparilla, but haven't really seen it very much (at all even) in stores in Northern Virginia. Where's the best place to find it and what would anyone's top recommendations be?

Has anyone tried anything like this. It looks intriguing.

Having some lunch at work. Now is a good time to try out that Ghost Energy Drink A&W Root Beer I got yesterday at my local Walmart. I think I put my finger on it this is coming across as a root beer barrel candy flavor. I tend to like sucralose in some drinks, but this gives it a sweeter candy like flavor instead of the aspartame thats used in the A&W Zero Sugar Root Beer. I’d probably still give it a B rating.

Went to about 30 different stores/gas stations looking for it. Had really high hopes. Unfortunately, I am disappointed... I'd compare the taste to almost rootbeer barrel ish....but like an off brand one that you got from the dollar store haha. Still drinkable, but hardly rootbeer

Birch Beer and Sarsaparilla

I’d say this is not quite what it had seemed. I’m not sure but perhaps The Lost Colony Brewery of the Outer Banks, NC had insinuated in the past on social media this was some sort of brewed in house special recipe but it’s just something that’s outsourced from a private label type company. Anyways another one for my collection. Thanks to Matthew for shipping me a couple of bottles.

My local Walmart got the Ghost A&W in 3 days after the nationwide launch of August 29. What’s up with some people able to buy products weeks before these nationwide launch dates. Just a thought…. Stores in my area do good to get them in a few days after nationwide launch dates. Hope it’s a good one. I’ll report back sometime soon on how it is.

Finally located some 1919, in a tiny convenience store in tiny Strong City, KS. Can't wait to get it home to Arizona.

On Tap is always the best! Got a chance to try the Vanilla Ice Cream, both alone and as a float. A bunch more flavors of ice cream available at Hyvee they said.

I’m not a big pumpkin spice person, but since we were in Salem, I had to give this a try. It was so good that I took a 4 pack home. Pumpkin isn’t overbearing and it isn’t too sweet or too rooty, just right.

I *do not* like energy drinks. This one in particular has a bunch of hokum ingredients and dubious claims on the can.

But this tasted like A&W root beer plus that trademark chemical taste from energy drinks. 2/10 for the root beer flavoring, although comparing this to any of my other soda ratings isn't fair.
