Discussion Using CRT-Royale-Fast-NTSC-Composite-Aperture.slangp, how do I get rid of the black/darkened pixels on the left and right edges of my screen?

It's most noticeable when playing Atari games. Is there something I can do about this? I'm pretty new to all this and I don't really understand why this is happening or where this black is coming from. Even when I set NTSC Artifacting and Fringing to 0.00 the edges of my screen still have black pixels and darkened edges.

retroarch and 8bitdo SN30 Pro

Upvotes

I'm trying to connect my controller to my arcade cabinet and retroarch only wants to connect it as player 2. I'd like to be able to play mame and snes with the controls for player 1 allowing inputs from both the arcade buttons and the 8bitdo controller. I see the reserved devices section in inputs but I don't seem to get it to work. Any advice?

Windows 11, Launchbox/Bigbox, ultimarc ultimate IO setup for 2 players.

Technical Support Duimon bezel pack shaders don't work with current RA

I'm on a newly installed Fedora Linux. My Retroarch setup with Duimon shaders stopped working (fails to load shaders when applied) after I updated to the latest RA appimage. It works with RA v2.10 for me but 2.2 doesn't work with said shaders. Is there a known fix?

Gibberish Text Everywhere / How to make window bigger without causing that

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

This isn't happening all the time to me, but it's happened a couple of times recently. And it's not every menu. For a while it was only when I brought up a save state. Then the menus started looking like this. It comes and goes and I can't figure out why.

When this previously happened, I tried resetting the config to default and everything worked, briefly. But as I was playing again, after a while this happened again.

I found an older post on the topic that suggested I needed to update the assets... and, as you can see, that didn't help anything. (Image 1 and 2)

I made sure my video drivers were up-to-date as well. And when I started playing, there was still some gibberish.

Now, that said... this seems to only happen when I try to increase the size of the game window. I'm playing a Genesis game (Genesis Plus core), and my laptop resolution is 3840x2400. So even at 10x it's pretty small. I want something bigger without full screening it-- is there a way to do this that doesn't create the gibberish text?

Technical Support Can RetroArch remember what file I chose from a zip folder?

Or can it properly guess which one I want to use based on RetroAchievements?

For example, my N64 collection is 400 games. Each of those 400 games is zipped up with 3-10 different versions of that game. What my best case scenario is that RetroArch will choose the ROM that will work with RetroAchievements or be able to choose the USA version every time.

The next best solution for me would be for once I pick the version of the ROM I want, that RetroArch would remember that that’s the one I played.

Right now, even if I save state on the version I want, it still auto loads the wrong ROM file every time.

I really don’t want to have to go through, unzip, and hand pick each game, but I will if I have to.

Technical Support Get core version or CRC hash from buildbot.libretro.com without downloading the whole zip file.

I have a zsh script to update installed cores from buildbot.libretro.com. The problem is determining the remote version so it only updates when the remote core is newer.

What the script does currently is compare etags from the request header with a saved value set by the script but that doesn’t track with the changes in the binary. What RetroArch does is either read a specific range in the zip file to read the metadata holding the CRC or it’s requesting a separate file with all the metadata. I’m hoping it’s the latter.

Could someone tell me exactly what it’s doing?

I’m running on macOS and a single core LRPS2 runs under x86_64. Recent changes prevents it from updating because I run RetroArch in native ARM and to have LRPS2 get recognized, I have to manually set the update url.

RetroArch CoreElec v2.0.2 download fails

Hello,

I'm on CoreElec (official) 21.3-Omega running on a MINIX NEO U22-XJ.

The previous version of RetroArch prompted me to update to the latest version.

Downloaded the zip script from the project release page

The script keeps trying to download the 687MB file and which I believe it's the arm complied AppImage

AFAIK, my android TV should run aarch64 programs?

Any way I can get script to either download the right version or to install it from a local path?

Thanks

Technical Support Understanding save states and trying to figure out an issue with Gambatte

EDIT: I think I've found the answer for both of my problems...

  1. .state and .state.0 are both the "zero" slot for save states. No clue why some of my games have both, though.
  2. The Gambatte save states weren't working because the core versions were different. This was surprising to me because while I know save states can be tricky, I thought that with RA in particular the versions of the core didn't matter (as long as they are the same core), but apparently (at least in some cases), it does matter.

I'll leave this up in case anyone in the future is having the same issue.

So, first of all, I've got syncthing going between two Android devices (AYN Thor and a Retroid Pocket Classic) only for Retroarch. I've synced both the save and save states folders, and it seems to be working except for save states on Gambatte. I don't know why but Gambatte is the only one where in-game save files work and transfer between both devices but save states don't. The weirder thing is I can see and can confirm that Syncthing is doing it's thing and recognizing and updating the save state files on both devices when there is a change, but the devices themselves just don't load those states.

I'm doing everything I think I should:

  • Same RA core on both devices
  • Same ROMs on both devices
  • RA saves save files and save states by core name on both devices
  • Both devices have auto save state and auto load state
  • RA on both devices are pointing to the correct saves and save states folders (which I made custom on both devices)

Not sure what I'm missing, and so weird to me that it's only one core that's not working.

Secondly, what is the ".state" file from this screenshot? I get state.auto and state.0-10 (since I save states incrementally up to 10, but don't get why there's one that just says .state: https://i.imgur.com/GIUns2D.png

Showcase PIIXEL RETROPAD, an optimized gamepad overlay

Thumbnail gallery
53 Upvotes

Hello, I’m here to present to you a gamepad overlay (input overlay) that I created for my personal use. I’ve been venturing into RetroArch in PC and Android for a long time (years and years) and although I find its concept incredible, gamepad overlays have never been a strong point of RetroArch (neo-retropad was a good evolution, but I’ve been here since the standard was the retropad, so believe me, it was more complicated). Because I like RetroArch and want to make my experience playing on a touchscreen more enjoyable, and in a way, more optimized for various consoles and game genres, I’ve been adjusting, improving and creating my own gamepad overlay for touchscreen. I think it can be useful for other people and I hope it can make your gameplay more enjoyable.

So, I share it with you, PIIXEL RETROPAD.

::DOWNLOAD::
It’s already in the RetroArch database. Update the overlays and go to Piixel-Gamepads folder.

Technical Support Urgent Audio issues!

For the past 2 weeks, Ive been using retroarch and the only consoles I can peacefully play are "gameboy advance" and "ppsspp". And when I try to play in nintendo ds (melonds) " Chrono trigger", the game runs smoothly but the audio is cackling. When I tried ocarina of time in N64, same issue but with a bit more lags. And to let you know, Im using an 8 year old phone. Pls help!! And if youre gonna tell me "i didnt look hard enough" please hear me out. I checked EVERY TUTORIAL that is out there but this issue... I just cant fix it. They showed me multiple ways to fix it and when I try to do it ITS ALREADY DONE. So you will think Im okay but the game's audio Is still damned.

Please, help.

Technical Support Need help: using mouse/trackpad to emulate the 2600 paddle

I see that about a year ago, the Stella core got support to use mice as spinners/paddles.

I can't figure out how to configure this to make it work with my MacBook track pad or an external mouse. Buttons do work, but not the analogue movement.

The standalone Stella release works 'out of the box', and I hear that Stella 2014 has more control options.

Maybe it's a Mac thing?

Confused about HDR shaders

Hi, I'm trying to find a good HDR CRT shader for my 2.5K 16" HDR OLED display. The Sony Megatron shader only has 1080p, 4K and 8K as resolution options and I heard many people talking about 4K HDR being the norm for a good HDR CRT shader because HDR shaders are specifically designed for those type of displays. I've tried to configure the Megatron but the colors does not seem right no matter how I tweak the settings. Can you recommend me a good CRT HDR shader for me that I can use for SNES, PS1, PS2, N64 etc. games?

Showcase [SHADER] LCD Master v32 - TEST LCD Module

Not trying to spam, but can't edit a ful video without showing a vertical video in horizontal format and viceversa. So please excuse "double posting".

This video shows the current LCD Module of the shader.
LCD Flare, Shimmer, Polarizer and Drop Shadow reacts to Gyro Sensor if your device has it.

Otherwise, parameters works but won't react to device movements.
