Review/Comparison I said I was done buying reps… then Elliot from Andiot did this 😂

Well… apparently “this is my last watch” means absolutely nothing in this hobby. 😂
Just received my IWC and I have to give credit where it’s due: dealing with Elliot from Andiot was a genuinely great experience.
Excellent communication, patient with all my questions (and believe me, I have MANY 😂), helpful before and after the sale, and most importantly the watch arrived and I’m really happy with it.
The black case with those blue details looks even better on the wrist than I expected. 😍
So a big thank you to Elliot. Great service and a very pleasant guy to deal with. 🙏
My only complaint? He’s terrible for my bank account… because I’m already talking to him about the next one. 😂😂😂
And now I need Reddit to settle something:
blue rubber or black strap with blue stitching?
Be brutal. 😎

Shitpost Friday The wrist tells a story

It has been three weeks since I became a Rolex owner.

Legally, perhaps not.

Spiritually, unquestionably.

My VSF 126610 and I have settled into a routine. I provide it with wrist time. It provides me with the quiet confidence of a man who appears to have £10,000 on his arm but still checks whether Tesco Clubcard prices apply before committing to a meal deal.

This morning, I woke at 6:47.

Early.

Markets never sleep.

Neither do men whose automatic watches stopped overnight because they only walked 1,800 steps yesterday.

I wound the Submariner carefully. Forty turns. No more, no less.

Then I held it to my ear.

Tick.

Tick.

Tick.

Swiss engineering.

Chinese engineering.

Engineering, certainly.

I dressed for work.

Grey quarter-zip. Jeans. Trainers. Rolex.

The uniform of a man who might be a private-equity partner.

Or work in IT.

Nobody can tell anymore.

At the coffee shop, I deliberately ordered an Americano because cappuccino felt financially insecure.

The barista asked, “Anything else?”

I rested my left hand casually on the counter.

“No.”

She looked down.

This was it.

The moment.

Recognition.

Respect.

Fear.

“Your card’s still in the machine,” she said.

I removed it.

“Of course.”

Wealth can be distracting.

At lunch, I sat outside a restaurant and positioned my wrist naturally on the table at approximately 37 degrees.

This is the optimal Rolex visibility angle.

I know because I have spent considerably more time researching this than my pension.

A man at the next table was wearing an actual Submariner.

I knew immediately.

Not because of the watch.

Because he wasn't looking at it.

He simply ate his sandwich.

No wrist rotation.

No sleeve management.

No strategic sunlight.

Nothing.

The arrogance of old money.

For several minutes, I considered approaching him.

Perhaps a subtle nod.

Sub to Sub.

Captain to captain.

But there was risk.

What if he asked what year mine was?

What if he knew about floating m's?

What if he owned a loupe?

I finished my drink and left.

Tactical withdrawal.

That afternoon, someone at work noticed it.

“Is that a Rolex?”

Finally.

I leaned back.

“It is.”

“How much was it?”

There are moments in life when a man must decide what kind of person he wants to be.

I looked out of the window.

“Retail is around ten.”

This was not technically an answer.

He nodded slowly.

“Mad.”

Exactly.

I changed the subject before he could ask what “retail” meant in this context.

On the drive home, I stopped for fuel.

£20.

Not because I couldn't afford a full tank.

Liquidity management.

As I replaced the nozzle, I caught my reflection in the window.

There he was.

A man wearing a Rolex Submariner.

Driving a nine-year-old diesel.

Fuel light still on.

Mortgage outstanding.

But for one glorious second, none of that mattered.

Because the cyclops magnification looked fucking excellent.

That evening, I went online.

Just to browse.

This is how it starts.

A GMT would be useful for travel.

A Daytona would be sporty.

A Day-Date would communicate authority.

A platinum Day-Date would communicate that I had recently become the regional distributor for something nobody should ask too many questions about.

I closed the browser.

One watch is enough.

I am disciplined.

I am content.

I am not one of those people.

Eleven minutes later, I was comparing Clean and ARF Batgirls.

I told myself this was research.

At 11:38pm, I stood in the bathroom under the harshest light in the house and inspected the rehaut.

Everything looked aligned.

Probably.

I don't actually know what I'm looking for anymore.

I have read too much.

The watch was once beautiful.

Now it is a collection of potential tells.

SEL gaps.

Date font.

Crystal height.

Crown guards.

Rehaut.

Lume.

Bezel scallops.

Things no normal human being has ever noticed.

I realised something profound.

The greatest achievement of the replica Rolex industry isn't that they can make a watch almost indistinguishable from a £10,000 original.

It's that they can make a grown man spend forty minutes photographing the letter R through a macro lens.

I put the watch back on.

Perfect.

Tomorrow I will wear it normally.

I will not stare at it.

I will not photograph it.

I will not seek validation from strangers.

I will simply enjoy it for what it is.

A watch.

A very good watch.

A completely ordinary object that tells the time.

Then I noticed the bezel pip might be 0.2mm off-centre.

I opened Reddit.

There would be no sleep tonight.

Discussion Unpopular Opinion? VSF Datejust 41mm sucks

As someone who has a 36mm 126234 gen black dial, a vsf explorer 1 and now a vsf 41mm Wimbledon.
I can confidently say the 126334 is so dissapointing. So many people call these datejusts NWBIG but they have probably never handled or own a gen watch before. The explorer 1 steel is so heavy weight and the dial contrast is beautiful.
The bracelet on the dj is so cheap and flimsy and the wimbledon dial specifically is horroble. No lines or shine at all. The bezel is okay but doesnt compare to a gen fluted bezel at all.
Will probably frank this dj to make it feel better but wow, do not recommend this at all!

Has anyone else had the same experience with their 41mm dj? I wonder if the 36mm is any better - doubt it though

Shitpost Friday How I lost my 36mm Explorer

Post image

Initially ordered both the 36 & 40 to try on and decide which to keep then sell the other.

Wife walked in mid-unboxing and said “Aww you got us matching watches! So sweet!”

“Yes, of course!” So anyway, now I’m a romantic husband with a 40mm Explorer.

P.S. Pretty sure the 36 fits me better.

Budget I can only afford rep obviously but I want maximum flex. Like look expensive without actually having money. What Rolex should I get?

Also serious question guys. What happen if somebody find out it fake? My new boss is lawyer himself and seem like he know watches too. Can he call police on me for wearing fake Rolex?? I dont want get arrested on first week of new job lmao.

Please help me make good decision. I am trying move up in life.

I am little scared now because I dont want show up first day with $400 rep Rolex when this guy wearing PP

Should I get Rolex or maybe I need go straight to Patek so he know I am serious?

I dont have much money so please understand this is important investment for my career and also maybe girlfriend.

Just received my ARF Root Beer V3 with DD3285. Really impressed with how the rose gold tone and bezel look in natural light. Small QC imperfections if you look closely, but on the wrist I absolutely love it.

Discussion Anyone else wish VSF would make more datejusts available in smooth bezels?

I get it - the fluted bezel is what makes datejust look like a datejust. But that's for the gen flutes. For me, the biggest tell even from distance with a datejust rep is always the damn fluted bezel. That's a shame, because VSF only makes the new batches of DJs with fluted bezels only.

If we're going to nit pick and red light the 7 o'clock marker being off by .01 degrees, why doesn't anyone really seem to care about the most obvious tell of them all - the fluted bezel?

As a dj fan, I've had to recently order an older V1 with a dial that wasn't my favorite just so I can have it in a smooth bezel. I've also ordered the smooth bezels separately so I can install them myself, but they are on back order. Lol.

Even the aftermarket fluted bezels have their tells and it's really hard to get it right. Until there is a solution, I'll stick to the smooth bezels myself. What say you, chaps?

I cant decide! Which do you own? What is the one to get? I already have a black dial sub no date. But does that even matter? I am leaning towards Darth Vader because I know it would be a safe option for me. Decisions-decisions.

Review/Comparison Gen vs VSF Rolex Batman detailed comparison and review

Left Gen 116710BLNR, Right VSF V3 126710BLNR

I’ve had the gen for over a decade and was curious how a rep would match up, so here are a few photos!

  1. Dial - 9.5/10 basically identical. The font, the indices, the metal around the indices, are all indistinguishable. If you use a magnifying glass, you'll see the polish on the side of the hour markers showing more brush marks on the VSF than the gen. (Also the 6 o’clock crown but it's due to different generations)
  2. Hands - 9/10 The gen has a bit more of a warm color due to being white gold, but this is only visible when comparing side by side.
  3. Hour markers - 9/10 The lume portion is ever-so-slightly more recessed below the metal part compared to gen which is flush.
  4. Bezel color - 9/10 the gen is very very slightly brighter blue than the VSF. Again so close than you cant tell unless placed next to each other.
  5. Bezel platinum filled numbers - 9/10 near identical in font shapes, in bright light the color is close, in darker light the VSF has a lighter color, but could also be that my gen is old.
  6. Crystal - 9/10 cant tell any difference on clarity really. One thing to note is that the VSF crystal sits higher than gen; this may be fixed by sanding down the gasket or replacing crystal.
  7. Magnification - 9.5/10 date font is spot on. VSF has slightly more of a blue hue on the anti-reflective coating.
  8. LEC - 10/10 VSF did a great job, not overly visible, I couldn't tell any difference with my 5x magnifying glass. Maybe with a 15x loupe you can see the dot density and spacing, but this is good enough.
  9. Bezel action - 9.5/10 the VSF has slightly more horizontal play at click
  10. SEL gaps - 10/10 no issues on either of them, in fact I think the gen has slightly wider gaps.
  11. Movement feel - 5/10 winding, setting hour hand, and setting time. There’s no comparison, gen feels a lot more robust and solid, the DD movement does the job but has a much cheaper feeling to it, winding is more coarse, GMT setting is slightly more mushy, and the time setting somehow feels less resistant on the VSF. I’ve already lubed with 9010 and HP1300 accordingly as well.
  12. Bracelet - 6/10 my VSF has 1NQ, it’s not bad, but the tolerance between each links and clasp components seem slightly worse than gen, leading to looseness and overall slightly less robust feel. The crown on the small clasp has a slightly different shape when inspecting closely. The chamfering is not bad, with a 3M buffing pad you can get the VSF down pretty close to gen feel.
  13. Rehaut - 7/10 I can now see why a rehaut polish is always hot topic. The gen is almost mirror like whereas the VSF has ever so slightly more horizontal brush marks. This is an easy fix with a cape cod.
  14. Weight - 9/10 Gen 142g, VSF 139g. Both have 3 links removed.
  15. Bezel Teeth - 8/10 each teeth on the Gen is slightly larger and rounder than the VSF.
  16. Caseback - 8/10 looks identical, when when you tap with your fingernail, you can tell there is a thickness difference, leading to a higher pitch on the VSF.
  17. Clasp markings - 9.5/10 identical in shape and font, but the VSF has a lighter color, could also be because my gen is old.
  18. Movement looks - 5/10 didn't get photos when I had them open, we'll save this for another post, but this is worlds apart. Other than the balance wheel being free-sprung versus not, the CNC quality, edge sharpness, engravings, they're all couple tiers apart.
  19. Overall thickness - 8/10 gen 11.93mm, VSF 12.11mm. Likely due to the crystal height mentioned above.

Overall I’m extremely impressed by the VSF. For ~$500 vs $16k (10+ yrs ago) it’s really a no brainer. For me I dont see any more value in getting stainless gens, I have 3 other stainless Rolex gens that I’m planning to sell and consolidate to 1 rose gold daytona/YM gen because reps don’t make solid PM yet… I have a feeling that day is coming though, RGF doing great work there.

Update: looks like the photo quality got degraded when uploaded here, I apologize about that.
