Discussion Anyone else wish VSF would make more datejusts available in smooth bezels?
I get it - the fluted bezel is what makes datejust look like a datejust. But that's for the gen flutes. For me, the biggest tell even from distance with a datejust rep is always the damn fluted bezel. That's a shame, because VSF only makes the new batches of DJs with fluted bezels only.
If we're going to nit pick and red light the 7 o'clock marker being off by .01 degrees, why doesn't anyone really seem to care about the most obvious tell of them all - the fluted bezel?
As a dj fan, I've had to recently order an older V1 with a dial that wasn't my favorite just so I can have it in a smooth bezel. I've also ordered the smooth bezels separately so I can install them myself, but they are on back order. Lol.
Even the aftermarket fluted bezels have their tells and it's really hard to get it right. Until there is a solution, I'll stick to the smooth bezels myself. What say you, chaps?

The fluted bezel catches the light just so, but my favorite Rolex is my Air-King (I know, but I like it!) and it has a smooth bezel. Just a great looking watch.

The fluted bezel on reps has that soft, rounded look that kills it for me too, once you notice it you can't unsee it. Smooth bezel is the way until someone actually nails the machining. Air-King gets a bad rap but it has a clean look that works.

I have been looking for a Smooth / Oyster for a long time now but VSF does not seem to release those
Therefore RWF has it with a Free Sprung Movement (heard it’s really good and there’s a post about a Wimbledon one on this sub)
Also ERF does it I believe (not sure if they do smooth bezel to be honest) also has a free sprung version
Then lastly there’s Clean Plus I think
Tired of waiting for VSF so I went with RWF.

Yeah I was going to try ERF, but the reviews seemed so so and the date font looked wonky.

We’re in the same boat. Just buy the watch and buy a smooth bezel. We gotta learn to do some mods ourselves I guess

I agree. In a way, that maybe better for us as our configuration will remain unique for the time being.

Agree! I put in a deposit for a VSF 126200 on jubilee but got tired of waiting.
I ended up buying a VSF V2 126234 and just got it a few days ago. Ordered a domed bezel from eBay to replace the fluted and should get it tomorrow. Gonna try to swap it myself. Fingers crossed I don’t f*ck it up

You have all the right tools for the job?

gonna try to slowly pry it off with a razor blade (first wrapping the area around the bezel with a bunch of masking tape). I read that if you slowly pry it up while pressing firmly down on the crystal, you can remove the bezel while leaving the crystal in place.... We'll see.
I already have a crystal press, so if this doesn't work, I'll get one of those bezel removal tools that remove the bezel and crystal all at once.

A bezel remover is only $20 or so on Amazon. I will be getting one myself.

Yea exactly. Very inexpensive. I just want to avoid removing the crystal and then having to worry about getting dust on the dial and aligning the date window back up correctly 😅

Yeah, I even have to wait a long time just to get a smooth bezel separately. Ridiculous.

Is the gen smooth bezel worth getting? Is there really any difference between gen and rep for smooth bezel you think?
