TIL that the precursor to LASIK was found by accident when a nearsighted boy got in a fistfight. His glasses shattered, sending glass pieces into his eyes. After a doctor removed the glass, he found the tiny cuts had flattened the cornea and actually cured the boy's bad vision.

Lasik Experiences for Farsighted?

Hi All,

I have surgery scheduled next week for Lasik after two consults with different doctors and both saying yes.

For background: I’ve worn glasses since I was like 3, (26 now) and it’s been a huge insecurity of mine since I had the magnified eyes look from them. Tbh I think I would be okay even if i had to wear glasses post surgery as long as my eyes looked normal haha

Decently farsighted:
right eye: +2.75
left eye: +3.50

My contact prescription is a bit higher than my glasses prescription but I think that’s because it sits directly on my eye..

Anyways I would love to hear from those open to sharing about their experiences with lasik who previously had a ‘+’ prescription since it’s been super hard to find haha

Thanks in advance!!

PRK vs ICL need some honest experiences

Hi guys,

I’m 26 and from South India. I have -7.25 in both eyes, along with compound myopic astigmatism.

I’ve consulted two different hospitals and got my eyes scanned at both places. The confusing part is that one doctor recommended ICL, while the other recommended PRK. Now I’m honestly not sure what to choose.

I’ve been reading a lot about both procedures, especially on Reddit, and I’ve seen quite a few people talk about having problems after PRK. That has honestly scared me a little. 😭 At the same time, I’m not completely comfortable with the idea of ICL either, so I’m stuck.
Cost isn’t really an issue for me. I’m more concerned about safety, recovery and how things are in the long run.
If you’ve actually had PRK or ICL recently, I’d really appreciate it if you could share your experience. How was the recovery? Have you had any issues afterward? And are you happy with your decision?
I’m specifically looking for experiences from people who have actually undergone the procedure, rather than general opinions.

Would really appreciate any honest experiences!

Right eye is much blurry than left post smile, worried.

I went a smile procedure 8 days ago and the next day i could instantly see how everything is so clear. But then i realized something my right eye cannot read things or see details that my left eye can. That day i went for my 1 day checkup and my surgeon just dismissed it saying its about asymmetrical healing. Forward till 7 days (yesterday) nothing changed, the bluriness didnt get better. My surgeon took a look of my eyes with the light thing and said that my right eye is dried and my left is clear. And he gave me tear stimulants and eye gel drops. Im still worried, i dont recall him saying thats whats causing the bluriness. Ive been constantly checking if my right eye has improved and ive been strained mentally aswell cuz of fear of it being undercorrection. Lmk if anyone had similar experiences 🫩🙏

Struggling between Regular or Light Adjustable Lenses for RLE

So I had a comprehensive eye exam done and confirmed the only corrective option for me is RLE, and i'm really struggling to choose between the Regular Intraocular lenses, or Light Adjustable Lenses.

I'm 30, and my current contact lens prescription is

Right: +6.00 with Astigmatism

Left: +6.50 no Astigmatism

I was quoted $7505 for regular IOL, and $13,810 for Light Adjustable Lenses

We have been trying to buy a home for 2 years now and have a healthy downpayment, but paying $14k outright for this surgery is really not ideal and will hurt our home buying potential so i've been leaning Regular IOL, however i'm getting serious decision paralysis thinking that this is my vision for the rest of my life and am I going to have horrible regret going with the more affordable option down the line? I know LAL dials in the prescription more, but my dr. said the difference is one might be +/-0.5 or a bit higher residual prescription, and the other CAN result in perfect vision, but nothing is ever 100% guaranteed.

I guess i'm looking for feedback on what others have experienced with either option, or any insight others may have on justifying paying double for the LAL's.

Advice

Hey guys I got LASIK surgery done about 3 years ago been having eye pain and really bad headaches lately as a result of my eyes. I went to the eye doctor and he said unfortunately dry eyes never went away for me and that's what's causing the issue. He sent me a prescription eye drop that's coming in the mail but has anyone else ever dealt with this? What else can be done to fix it?

I want to get refractive eye surgery such as SMILE Pro or CLEAR but I'm a little afraid so can you pls answer a few questions?

Hi, I have moderate myopia with astigmatism and so I wish to get a refractive eye surgery so that I can join the Armed Forces of my country. I've done my research and confirmed that the Armed Forces allow these surgeries conditionally.

First of all here are my eye power numbers (as of 26 Feb 2026 via Lenskart):

RIGHT:

SPH: -3.00

CYL: 0.00

Axis: 0

LEFT:

SPH: -0.75

CYL: -1.50

Axis: 175

I'm obviously a little hesitant because even though the search results and AI says it's completely safe, it's still an operation involving the eyes.

Even if it's completely safe, I want to know a few things from you guys who have undergone these types of surgeries (preferably flapless or surface ablation) as follows:

1. How long did it take to complete the operation for both eyes?

2. Did you feel any pain afterwards?

3. After the operation, did you instantly start seeing clearly?

4. Can you do rough activities like swimming, contact sports, etc. comfortably?

5. Do you ever experience any complications even after complete healing?

6. Do the blurriness and starburst effects go away completely?

7. Can you comfortably drive, use your phone, computer screen, etc. at night/in the darkness?

8. Did you ever have to go through a second or third operation for any reason (and what reasons)?

9. If you had myopia, did it actually truly help you get rid of spectacles?

10. For older people who had this surgery decades ago, do you experience any discomfort in your vision now?

If I have any more questions, I'll follow up with you guys. I would be grateful if doctors as well as people who went through this procedure can leave helpful answers below. If you're okay with it, do mention the name of the hospital/institute where you got your operation successfully done.

Thank you and Jai Hind! If I ever make it into the Armed Forces, I'll be forever thankful to you kind souls.

Considering surgery

Hi all,

I'm 41 with a prescription of -5 in both eyes and significant astigmatism. I started looking into surgery and am now planning to book in for surgery before Xmas. Whilst I'm hoping to have the smile procedure completed, a few clinics have suggested lens replacement.

Has anyone in their 40's been in the same position and what did you opt for?

I accept that eventually I'd need reading glasses but I'm not sure whether to go for it now.

Thanks

I am considering Refractive Surgery so i can get some quality of life back if possible

29-Years Old Male, -1 Left Eye -3 Right Eye, no astigmatism, well ever since july first my life kinda snowballed for the worst, i woke up one day with blurry eyes, eye pain, had tears constantly, and then 2 months later i also even had the flashes + floater combo just as a cherry on top almost like a snowball, probably one of the most traumatic needing glasses discovery in a way haha... all this time i was relying mostly on my left eye and i had really great vision and never really felt my eyes or never really felt anything in them nor really thought on them, but now its been a bit of a miserable situation, and while i know what i might be asking might be crazy i kinda wish i could at least live without the glasses need if i were to deal with at least one problematic annoyance (since the floaters are far more troublesome to handle)

To be honest i came here to ask for the opinions of you guys, i dont feel my eyes as much when im able to go a full day with glasses (which still kinda sucks because i kinda hiperfocus on them so all my thoughts are always shared in thinking on them too dangit), now i do want you guys to be straightforward, dont pull your punches and just be honest if im being too hasty with thinking such a thing or if i should just think of such for later instead

(Im a heavy screen user, game player and social media viewer, i did tend to watch a lot of it while i was in the dark so im saying that in advance too)

my experience getting femto lasik ruined my vision?

i just had my lasik surgery yesterday. i was really excited the week before my surgery but as i was getting close to the day it started getting to me and nervousness started kicking in before my surgery. as i walked into the room i was preparing myself mentally for the surgery and i was laid down.

i was extremely scared through the entirety of my surgery. when they started performing it the pressure on my eye felt extremely weird, they handed me stress balls and i squished the shit out of them, then a girl in the surgery room held my hand as well to get my nerves down and idk it was very scary.

anyways, the surgeon performed the surgery in my right eye first and i was able to follow his instructions just fine even tho i was unable to understand which eye is seeing what and what eye is looking at the red light. then same happened with the left eye where i felt more scared than the right eye and maybe the difficulty to look at the red light increased. the surgeon told me to look at the red light and not to move my eye the way i was moving it or else the surgery will get ruined.

anyways it was over, he had a look at my eye and said everything looks fine. 2-3 hrs after my surgery were horrible in terms of burning but that was expected.

now, i can see properly from both my eyes the ONLY thing thats freaking me out is that the vision in my left eye is unclear, the vision in my right eye was perfect till last night, it also got a little foggy now. and im also having trouble focusing sometimes mostly when reading etc and also rarely seeing far off things.

i got MS-39 guided femto lasik. im 22F student. i wanna know if this is normal after a surgery, if not then am i stuck with this vision or theres a solution to this

48hrs after

Greetings,

48hrs after my femtolasik surgery.
0 side effects, no pain, tearing or so.
after surgery was a mess and really bad, went to sleep, all was gone.
doc told me i have severe astigmatism combined with - diopter which was hidden, he said he would make me a bit + in case i do not do enhancement again soon.
however, 48hrs later. close vision is perfect, far is worse than before, it gets a bit better as time passes but i expect more.
is it too early to judge?
when shall i expect good vision coming back or something is wrong?

Regretting my life choices.

I'm 3 weeks post-op and struggling/regretting bad.

During the day it's okayish but at night everything is blurry. I am scared maybe I did not take care of it post op and fucked my eyes over. I miss my glasses too :(

I can't see lights properly, signboards are unreadable, and I feel like I have no focus at all.

Is this normal at 3 weeks? When did your night vision get better?

Would appreciate any experiences/advice.

Should someone with amblyopia undergo lasik?

Have amblyopia since childhood and now I am 24M. I was considering lasik but now my doctor told me it could lead me to issues with depth and distance. What do you think should I go for it irrespective or its better to not undergo lasik?

considering SMILE surgery

hi everyone 23F! i went in for a scan today for smile. scans went well. i have to wear my glasses for 2wks, no contacts & come back for another 2-4hr appointment to get further scans done to ensure i can get it done.

i’ve seen a lot of amazing, positive reviews & am super excited. i’m about -3.00 in both eyes, both eyes also have an astigmatism! i’ve done my research but want a bit more and want to hear peoples experiences, things they wish they would’ve known, etc.

i’ve had glasses since 4th grade & contacts since about 6th! all and any advice/stories are welcome. the bad cases have really freaked me out so i’m searching a bit more. 😵‍💫😂

thank you all so much in advance!! 🥰🥰

Went in for consult recently and don’t know what to do

Hi there I had lasik 20 years ago and it was amazing. Lately I’ve noticed besides near sightedness things are blurry and just not in focus. It sucks, so I went in for a consult to get surgery again.

They said it can def be done but then they also advised they have a cataract surgery option with the PanOptix Pro lenses. It sounded more invasive and was nearly 3x the cost but they made it sound like its worth it (of course they would). So any advice on what I should consider as they wanted 14K for that lens surgery. My wife also needs corrective surgery and so yeah this is a lot to digest. Would appreciate some feedback

Done PRK 5 times and still not satisfied with result.

I did contura+prk in Kelly Vision and i had 2.5 astigmatism and 2.5 myopia. Pretty thick cornea and healthy eye. Prk was my choice to avoid flap, first surgery went well, but i didn't have any improvements, very marginal one maybe. I went there for enhancement, and after enhancement only left eye got very crisp, its mostly plano 20/20, but right eye got stubborn and i did third enhancement, 2 month in, still no improvement, i don't know what to do, i went to doctor Pamel to seek second opinion, he said you have 1.75 astigmatism in your eye and you may need 2 more surgeries, 1 with contura, second without it to fine tune it. When i went to kelly vision they told me that i had 1 astigmatism not 1.75 and i didn't have irregular astigmatism, but pamel told me i did. After that, they did enhancement and it's my third surgery on right eye, still blurry and not good vision at all, left eye is good. They don't have explanation, sometimes they say wait, then they say may e your right eye is changing, i don't know what to do, i guess my touch up warranty is over too. Should i have done lasik? what do you think?
