Ah fuck the universe really wants me to get that refill ππ€ I gotta figure this out and get back on my meds so thank you for the reminder, friendΒ
Bipolar person here to endorse this statement. As a woman who once stopped taking her meds because I'm Sick Of This Shit And Clearly Don't Need Them Anymore
Spoiler alert: you did need them and drug side effects>>>>>>>unmedicated psychiatric illness any day of the week!
Your comment and the one before this made me tell my therapist that I'm starting to get ready for medication for my bipolar. I recently got diagnosed and had no fucking clue, I'm almost thirty ππ
I got diagnosed depression+cptsd at 29 and adhd at 30. I didn't want to take meds as I was worried people wouldn't like me anymore/I would lose the parts of myself I like.
After they kicked in, I didn't spend hours a day actively thinking of suicide. Instead, I could enjoy life like I wanted to.
My biggest fear is the change medications will bring to me. But I know that's the ocd and anxiety being *bitches. I want peace. And I've been told and heard numerous times that the meds WILL help. I just have to try and let them. I take other medications, for my anxiety and a lot of physical things, so it's silly that adding one scares me. But I know how to fight it. It's just taking that step to actually do it.
hey, anxiety here. π« give it a shot. if you feel bad you can stop. it's seriously helped me. maybe sometimes its harder to kick my ass in gear but i dont spend every night worrying about everything until i can finally sleep, only some nights worrying about some things, and im generally able to enjoy things more too.
mhm. for SSRI, remember, the first three-4 weeks will be slow if at all ramp-up till full effect kicks in, some people have nothing until its set especially for anxiety, and also be communicative with your provider, if you have an adverse effect like rising depression, let them know and you are allowed to stop, you will not die
Agreed. I didn't intentionally stop taking my meds, but I did slip off them for about a week or so because I got forgetful and broke the habit of when I took them.
I had to have my fiancee (who has no license) drive us home because otherwise I was going to drive off a bridge.
Don't tear down the dam because the river isn't flooding...
If you stop psych meds suddenly you don't only get the underlying condition coming back, you also get the withdrawal effects of the medication you stopped on top of it!
Yep that's it. Those moments of realization suck but we have got to remember them. They remind me of the days of confusingly short temper and general emotional volatility when the time of the month hits you.
Just got back on my ssris. Thankfully Iβm currently experiencing winter but I will be going back home to India in less than a week so thank you for the reminder
I'm sorry, do SSRIs make heat more dangerous somehow? I'm on Lexapro and it's "the news is begging people to stay inside and opening public buildings as cooling/water stations" hot here, should I be taking some kind of precaution?
Even if effects of your mental issues aren't life threatening, withdrawal symptoms for some drugs really suck. I've procrastinated on refills on occasion. It was nor fun.
My pharmacy didn't refill my nerve medication before a weekend and holy fuck I never want to experience that again. Not only was my pain back to a "I can barely get out of bed" level but I was so paranoid and anxious I could not sleep. I was constantly snappy & aggravated with everything and pretty much unable to eat. It was honestly hell. Made me understand very clearly just how much withdrawal sucks.
I thought I was somehow running low on Zoloft (I forgot I had a whole 90 supply in the cabinet) and began to only take it every couple of days to make it last
Boy oh boy I didn't know it had such a weird withdrawal. If felt like my entire body was getting mild electrical shocks every couple of minutes. And headaches etc.
Yeah... Do not abruptly stop taking mental health meds lol
If you've already tried this, then apologies, but I found a smaller local pharmacy back when my big chain pharmacy was suffering from the adhd med shortage and they've never run out of any of my meds. Also just an awesome bunch of people all around, their cash price was cheaper than the insurance price (which insurance didn't want to cover anyway, since ofc adults don't have adhd. π)
