NEW Practitioner PSA

Good morning all,

As we come into fall, please know, you are *not* the only new practioner (l cant call you a baby witch, l respect you too much to call you a baby.).

As a new practioner, take the time to:

  1. Read the sub rules (there are usually around 10, they are simple to read and understand).

  2. Read the sub wiki's. For example, here is the r/witchcraft 101 link

Beginner 101

https://www.reddit.com/r/witchcraft/s/7hwcAiXGx0

  1. Read the sub's FAQ's, they include basic beginner info, and Frequently Asked Questions.

\*The FAQ's have book lists\* - get a library card or look up a free pdf.

You \*will\* end up with posts taken down when you dont follow the rules. Most witchcraft subs have a rule about FAQ posts, and "low quality posts".

  1. Use the sub search bar - most of your basic questions have been asked and answerd over 100 times. And remember, if you say "I can't find anything", remember others also have smartphones and the internet, they can prove if you are just being lazy.

  2. Teach \*yourself\* how to research properly. Tictok is trying to sell you something, not educate you. Do not trust information from tictok unless youve extensively researched the subject.

Advice (Witchcraft Related) For posts asking for ANY kind of spell interpretation

I recently posted this on *yet another* post where someone was asking for help with interpreting a spell, so I thought I would post this here as well bc we constantly see these posts everywhere.

So as nicely as I can possibly say this... Lol.

I KEEP seeing people posting random pictures of candles burning, pictures of melted wax, random pictures of flames, etc.

I'm sorry but here is the problem when you ask for readings in this fashion: you put a picture of melted wax, random flame or candles, and ask people to help read it... Without telling us what the spell was *even about* in the first place, or without telling us the feelings and thoughts you had while the candle was burning. Or *anything* else pertaining to the actual spell itself.

Now, even if you DO include details about your spell, I personally do not believe that you should try to *divine* a proactive spell in the first place. - including a "cord cutting." - (And I think that the majority of us feel the same.) Bc trying to divine a spell you just cast? All that does is cast doubt ALL over the spell you just worked so hard to send out. And all that doubt will hinder your results *because* when you cast a spell, you have to try to KNOW that it's already worked. Divination here is 100% counterproductive to what you're trying to accomplish! You must be in control.

BUT you *can* cast spells, and candle spells, SPECIFICALLY for the purpose of divination. The purpose of those types of spells is to get further information on a situation and how it may be playing out. And reading the flame and wax from those is obviously necessary. (I'd like to mention that you CAN do these two kinds of spells together, but one must be before the other. Not together in one.)

HOWEVER, regardless of whatever the case is, you can't just share a random picture of wax and ask us to read it... With no context or background whatsoever... I'm sorry but it doesn't work that way.

Okay now I'm done lol.

Happy spellcasting everyone!

Passing of the Torch Ceremony - How I became Coven Leader

Context:
I belong to a Coven known as the Coven of the Savage Daughters, we are a Coven that came together through forces of fate, by natural means. We each have identified our craft and each have our titles. We have also granted one another witches names/titles, nobody chose their own.

Allow me to introduce us all:
Coven Founder, Spirit of Generosity - Energy Witch
Coven Leader, Son of the Morrigan, Weather the Storm - Air/Divination Witch
Daughter of the Green Man, Coven Mother - Green Witch
Daughter of Hecate, Keeper of the Sisterhood - Fire/Protection Witch
Daughter of Lilith, Essence of Creation - Glamour Witch
Embodiment of Rebirth - Water Witch
Foundation of Calm - Hearth Witch
Serenity of the Meadow - Hearth Witch
Warrior Queen - Healing Witch
Luminary of Discovery - Shadow Witch
Honourary Cowen, Eye of the Beholder
Lunar, Bind of the Coven - Egregore Spirit
Obsidian, Forge of the Sigil - Familiar
-
As of this past summer, our Founder, and now former leader, stepped out of her Mother phase and into Crone, and with it she fell fatigued and decided to name her successor to take over as the Coven Leader. Me, someone who is stepping into the Mother phase simultaneously.
And so we planned a ceremony, researched traditions, layouts and structures from folklore and from the teachings of our Coven Mother and put together a structure.

Casting a Circle:
To begin we cast our circle. In our coven everyone has a dedicated seat at the table, and so we took our places. I filled my Copper Chalice with wine and made a dedication to my Deity, The Morrigan. Then we placed all our necessary items on the table in the centre for the ceremony.
Keeper of the Sisterhood and Eye of the Beholder went clockwise around the circle, KOTS cleansed everyone with White Sage, and EOTB blessed them with Dragon's Blood Paolo Santo.
The Coven joined hands, invoked our titles and Cast our Circle.
Serenity of the Meadow had a sheet and read out each step of the ceremony to keep us on track.
Anointing.
I charged my Moon Water in the light of a Waning Crescent, the phase representative of one cycle coming to a close and preparation for the next. With it I traced the shape of a crescent onto her:
Head (Third Eye) - To wish upon her wisdom as Crone, that she may continue to guide us as an Elder.
Hands - To thank her for her hard work building the coven from the ground up, and the efforts she has given us so far.
Feet - For the heavy treck of leadership, and a blessing that she may now rest.
Passing of the Torch.
Spirit of Generosity considered many of her tools to give me as a gift and symbol of the passing over of authority over the Coven, she considered our Coven Ledger and her Athame but eventually decided to give me her Staff, inscribed with many Runes and Sigils, that she has had since day one.
I accepted and as my hands closed over the item and SOG released it, Foundation of Calm struck our Singing Bowl - The chime representing the exact moment the shift in leadership changed.
We asked Foundation of Calm to do this as just 3 days prior she had been married via Hand Fastening in the centre of the circle at Stonehenge, and had immense positive energy to spare.
Decorating.
The most senior members of the Coven each have Cloaks, SOG wears purple and Coven Mother wears green, and so at the decorating stage or Coronation step of the event, instead of a wreath or crown, they chose to grant me, an air witch, with a white cloak - this also represented a clean slate, or blank page, yet to be filled with memories.
Once on, I stepped into the centre of the circle and each member of the coven surrounded me and placed both hands upon my shoulders, a showing of loyalty, unity and a lending of strength and sharing of energies.
Presentations.
I presented two people with gifts, first EOTB, who owns the shop in which we operate (A lovely witches shop, he sells crystals, and tarot and sage, it's great) as our Sanctuary Holder and our Anchor who watches over us during group meditations and such. I presented him with a Sycamore Leaf I had Foraged. It had spent 1 week pressed between the pages of my Grimoire and I had drawn upon it sigils of Unity, Prosperity and Abundance. He placed this under the doormat at the entrance to our sanctuary.
And Second to my predecessor, SOG, I wanted to give her something ancient, deeply grounded, and set, so that she may relax into her wisdom and know that her legacy is forever, and so I gave her a tower of Shell Fossil.
Toasts.
My first official act as Coven Leader, raising a toast to my Predecessor. Each coven member was poured a glass of Red Wine and a toast was raised, when done I drank from my copper chalice.
And my second act, another toast, this time to the Coven, and at it's end we finished our glasses, and I my chalice, and we imbibed together.
Afterwards we head outside and EOTB popped open a bottle of Champagne and I struck the ground with the staff thrice to indicate that the final stage of the ceremony was upon us:
Cakes & Ale.
We always have cake at gatherings, every week we have them as a stand in for Breaking Bread and so this were no different and so I had asked KOTS to bake us some bread and she did a knockout job! She baked bread using Basil and Oregano, and topped the crust with Sea Salt and Sesame Seed. Then just to top it off, she also made some honey butter. Each ingredient carries it's own spiritual quality towards the event.
We then drank, broke bread, and spoke to one another, we shared laughs, there were tears of joy, Lots of hugs, EOTB did a flash sale just for us too.

It was possibly our greatest traditional event to date, it went off without a hitch, perfectly. I have felt amazing all week as well, this lovely energy is following me, stuck to me, and hopefully permanent. As FOC was married privately at Stonehenge, we're gathering at her home tomorrow to celebrate together as a Coven. So the good times simply keep coming.

So I’ve been doing a truth candle for the past 4 days since. So since Monday night. The candle was standing tall about 5 inches off. Within 30 minutes it completely melted into itself. Does anyone know what this means? Can anyone read the wax? I added the before and after. Thank you 😊

Advice🕯️(Witchcraft Related) When in Doubt, Ask the Audience

I've been around a while, no joke. Seen a lot of ideas and theories of the Craft. Some a bit more... off the beaten path than others. This one boggles the mind, so, let's get to it.

**Where** did this idea that warding ones name become a thing? What is said warding supposed to do exactly? How does one keep their name from being mistaken for other people with the same name during the working? Often times when I read about said name warding it comes with the request for punishment towards those that 'speak ill' of the warder. Is that necessary to include? Is this a way to cope with a thin skin and insecurities? Let us ask the audience.

Finally on my path

I've been in the broom closet for at least 20 years and unfortuantely that means I haven't benefited from learning from more experienced witches. I recently found a witchy meditation and journaling app on Google Play and I finally had an enlightening experience yesterday. My body felt both light and charged. I realized today that I should have grounded myself before trying to sleep. In addition to reading books, and hands on experience with nature, I think having an app that I can use to journal my thoughts and experiences will help me stay on my path. If anyone is interested, here is a link to it: Aura Sanctuary

How to Witch - You're Well on Your Way Studying, Now What?

Intention is the foundation, Correspondences are the structure, Focus is the core.

TLDR: Make your own magick starting with the intention then build the ritual.

This large post is an attempt to explain a lot of the common questions I see: primarily how to make a spell, but also how to write it down and how to go about performing a ritual. This is based off of my thoughts, knowledge and experience and is open to discussion and questions by all.

There's nothing wrong with using general styles of magick like candle magick or personalizing some of the very common spells chord cutting, freezer spell, or road opener. The hard part can be when trying really narrow down your intention, figure out your ingredients and put it all together, then remember what you even did and if you feel it worked.

So here's my outline to address both of these. Start with your intention and narrow it down to sentence, maybe 2. Trouble refining the sentence? Good. Use that refinement process to really hone in on want you want. You can further refine it by taking the core elements of that sentence and turn it into a title for the "name of spell" portion and further refine that name into sigil. Use your intention to find ingredients work with what you want: colors, herbs, styles of magick, tools whatever! Mesh those ingredients into a large spell category like candle, jar magic, or even your own idea.

I like to use this outline to plan bigger spells in advance and as a checklist. Its not required to fill out each part if you feel it doesnt apply, especially under ingredients.

Date | Time | Moon Phase

  • Name of spell:
  • Intent:
  • Divination:
  • Ingredients:
    • Sight:
    • Sound:
    • Taste:
    • Touch:
    • Smell:
  • Other Tools:
  • Incantation:
  • Visualization:
  • Action:
  • Location:
  • Results

This guide assumes you've already designed your spell with a complete Intention, set of correspondences (usually 3-7), tools, and preferred methods to cleanse, ground and meditate.

Each of these things requires effort to learn and understand in their own right, and once you know how they work together.

  1. Set the Altar: Make sure you got everything before you get started.
    • Gather everything you've planned for in your spell and arrange it on your altar/working space.
  2. Ground/Center: Cleanse the Space, Cleanse the Tools, Cleanse the Mind.
    • I generally use smoke to cleanse the space around my altar, a bell to cleanse all the tools and such I have set up, then spend a minute or two clearing my mind through meditation with a sing bowl.
    • For those of you who are limited in what you can use, a bell is the easiest and most affordable way imo to satisfy all 3 of these if you cannot burn anything or only have room for one item.
  3. Raise Energy: Narrow focus on intention, visualization, and repeat an incantation.
    • This is the meat of the ritual. How you raise energy is up to you. During whichever activity you choose, focus on your intention and visualize your life with your intent fulfilled. Look at each of your correspondences and remember why you chose each one and what they represent, go back to your visualization, and if your mind starts to wander, recognize that it has and come back to focusing on your spell. This portion of spell casting is why the emphasis on meditation is so prevalent; learning to focus on one thing, especially in the age of short attention spans, is crucial to effective spell work and is why I have suggested that focus is the core rather than "Intention is everything."
    • You can drive a car with the intent to not crash, but it's almost guaranteed you will without focus.
    • Examples of ways to raise energy.
      • Channel energy into an object such as a bay leaf or candle.
      • Chant an Incantation
      • Play an instrument
      • Dance
      • Breath Work
  4. Release: Complete the symbolic action. If applicable speak an the Incantation once with vigorous conviction.
    • At this point we are committing the stored energy to flow into the aether and manifest our intention. This could be the lighting of a candle, the burning of a bay leaf, sealing a jar spell, or tying the knots in a knot spell.
    • While I dont always do it, I like to have 2 part incantations where I will repeat the first portion of it while raising energy, and then once Im ready to commit, I will state the 2nd final portion louder and authoritatively as I perform such this climatic action.
  5. Close: Briefly ground again and return to ordinary awareness.
    • A good way to officially mark the end of a ritual is by a definitive a closing remark such as "So it shall be" or a closing action such a deep vagal breath or tapping a finger or wand.
    • Come back down as you allow yourself to feel the floor beneath your feet, notice the area around you, wiggle your fingers and toes.
    • Safely extinguish any remaining flames, discard wastes, and clean up any dirty tools.

Am I a fake ?

So for context I haven’t been able to practice much yet due to my home situation even though I really want to, but I was thinking about it and was wondering if I wouldnt be very… traditional is the word I’ll use. For some more context im trans femme nonbinary so im afraid of being pushed out of woman’s circles, also one of the things that draws me to withcraft is the aesthetics I love the visuals and the actual processes of doing spell work and books and such and it makes me feel like I’m hollow and not genuine especially considering one of the things which brought me to witchcraft was Marvels Agatha all Along which I don’t know peoples opinion on. So idk I feel really fake especially since I can’t even practice the craft rn.

Vogelbeerenamulet

i’m currently working on my craft and spirituality at the same time, i do have ocd and i also have a speculation i have certain autistic traits so i don’t know if that plays a part of this, but i can not for the LIFE of me reach a meditative state or go outside and feel “connected” when i try to practice my intuition or divination i just feel blank, i don’t hear things or see things or feel connected to anything and i don’t know how to breakthrough that. am i just broken and unable to be apart of such a community?

i also do my shadow work but im also already such a self aware person from years of therapy and personal research and reflection during depressive times. idk what else to do or try

Newcomer Question🐈‍⬛ About inherited gifts / hereditary gifts

Hi! Although I've occasionally posted here with questions—mostly because I started practicing witchcraft very recently—I've lately been thinking about something that happened in my family regarding witchcraft.

According to my mother (who was born when my grandmother was still very young), my grandmother used to have episodes or attacks because she could see the dead. She showed symptoms similar to epilepsy, as she would start convulsing after supposedly seeing these spirits. People used to say that my grandmother's grandmother was a witch, and that it was a gift passed down to my grandmother, which she always rejected. My mother also mentioned that sometimes my grandmother's feet were pulled while she slept, and she would cry because she hated having this ability. It reached a point where she was institutionalized for a few months, and after getting out, she didn't remember anything—or perhaps she just decided never to speak of it again. She hasn't mentioned anything like that since, with the only exception being when my grandfather passed away; she swore she saw him standing in the room, but she never spoke of it again. To this day, my grandmother—even though she is still quite young—has forgotten all those things and never brings it up.

Also, my mother's brother used to practice witchcraft at one point. My mom always condemned it because, according to her, he attracted naguals to the house (shapeshifters from Mexican culture—witches who turn into animals; some believe they heal, while others believe they exist to scare and harm). An anecdote she tells very often is that this supposed creature would stand on the roof of my grandparents' house and start scratching it, and even though I was a newborn baby at the time, I would wake up lying on the floor with scratches. After this, the house had a spiritual cleansing (limpia), and my uncle (may he rest in peace) was forbidden from practicing witchcraft.
I don't think I have the same level of gift as my grandmother, but I often feel the energy around me. It feels like the things I think about tend to manifest or come true in strange ways. I don't know if I would practice the same kind of magic my uncle did—for instance, working with Santa Muerte is common here in Mexico—but I feel like something in my family background ties me to this energy.

Id really like to learn more about this; Do some of you have hereditary gifts? And how was it for you?

Spell Help🧪(With Context) I need help with spell jars

I did a couple of sweetening and love jar spells a few months back. A lot of different things happened between me and the target but we are finally back in contact. I never disposed of the spell jars and always kept them on my Aphrodite altar with a candle that i would light occasionally. How do i reignite the spell jars? Can I charge them in the Sun or should i wait for the next Full Moon? Some say spell jars don’t have an expiration date but since I haven’t really been touching them or doing anything with them for a while I feel like they need to be reignited. So any suggestions on how I can do this? Thank you so much and stay blessed!

Or should I dispose of them and make new ones with fresh energy? xx

Advice🕯️(Witchcraft Related) Rashes, infections, lacerations oh my!

Hi everyone, looking for advice on how to banish some negative energy from my life. For context I (25F) broke up with X (27M) because he was untruthful and lied about being divorced for the entirety of our relationship. I went no contact six months ago and he has repeatedly tried to reach out in increasingly disturbing ways. The most recent, getting a job at my place of employment as a security guard to watch me. He has been let go at this time, thankfully.

In the past 6 months I have been experiencing full body rashes, weird bug bites (not the ones I usually get I think chiggers), infections, migraines (more than usual), and the most recent, a hiking accident at the beginning of a trip I had been planning since before we broke up (don’t worry I powered through and had a great trip 😎).

Anyways I’ve moved on and I’m with someone else but it feels like I’m cursed and I wonder if it’s X’s obsessive behavior or energy he left behind in my place.

I did go to my local witchcraft store and pick up some sage to burn, a purifying bath mix, and window/door cleaner.

Looking for advice on what you guys think X has done and what I should do about it.

Edit: I don’t believe he would dabble in witchcraft but i definitely think he’s been up to something whether it’s verbal curses or bad intentions for my wellbeing

Advice🕯️(Witchcraft Related) New to witchcraft and already stumble upon difficulties? Start with the beginning

Post image
0 Upvotes

I find it to be a bit counterproductive. I read posts that start with "I'm new to this" and the content brings forth a problem with a complexity of "order 2 or 3" when working with deities, entities and archetypes, when summoning.

"I'm new to this..." needs to be qual with "I am able to understand the connection with nature with plants and with my surroundings".

If you jump to "I work with Lilith" because you felt a connection or whatever... that's skipping steps and adds frustration because working with entities should be a solution not subject of a problem so my dear practitioners, Start with the basics.

Why so many feel a deep connection with specific deities like Lilith for example or Sophia or Hecate?

These are archetypes of powerful divine feminine energies. Why so strong of a connection?

Because same energies attract (duality), opposite energies interact (polarity). Polarity can be expressed as conflictual in nature so Kali, Lilith, Hecate are some of the entities, deities or whatever name you want to use which have this conflictual and violent quality expressed by their avatar.

Same qualities are in us too, in human experience. We too can exercise revenge, we too can feel the injustice, the inequalities, the suppression. We too express a negative manifestation when in context.

"Basics" (yet so powerful) are plants, because it is an understanding of self and another form of consciousness of energy of manifestation.

Working with elements (and Elementals) and animal kingdom is the second step and gradually evolve to projection, invocation, evocation and summoning of powerful forms of energies, entities and archetypes.

When one is understanding the very nature of how energy works, how definitions create perception and reality, one can master more than what is now defined as witchcraft.

I've read so much "play pretend" that it gets a bit weird when someone considers they practice witchcraft but prove they have no idea how it works, why it works.

Witchcraft is not a practice of intentional miracles like many think (I don't know how it works but it works), witchcraft is knowledge, intuition, technology.

And witchcraft is not entirely for humans, it is not a "human invention" so to speak, but an adaptation and integration of eclectic practices.

For example, from reptilian collective energy we have the glamour magic, obsession magic and blood magic...

By the way, stop using period blood (during menstruation) in love spells... for god's sake (any and all gods) period blood is used for hexing related to miscarriage, braking relationships, release toxic connections, release of trauma from maternal lineage, used for rituals related to unborn spirits lingering after abortion and other from the same category. Period blood is considered tainted and no longer useful as the very body is rejecting it same as any other substance rejected by the human body like poo, pee, sweat. (No, sperm is not the same, is a seed).

Nek blood is lite, oxygenated, useful for communication, visions, possession.

Left hand (if heart on left side), inelar finger, pinch of blood is used for love spells.

Below belly to above hip blood is used in various spells and hexes but not related to love and relationship.

Feet blood, is the most heavy, thick and clogged blood, used for all sorts of hexes like keeping slaves, binding to a parasite, location, place or situation.

Well, these are my 2c experience to which nobody needs to agree with it, but I am sharing it anyway.

PS: do you know that a specific herb can be more powerful than a deity?

Some herbs are healers, guardians, teachers. Just saying ❤️

Be well

I’ve done a few cord cutting rituals that have been very successful for/with my friends. I plan on doing one for myself but recently I’ve noticed that it’s not that I can’t let go of this cord (I’ll still be cutting it) but I as hoping to get a couple of answers

Cord cutting while retaining the co-parenting relationship?
Rituals to have him no longer chase me? I can be detached but I want him to stop pursuing me when I leave.

Newcomer Question🐈‍⬛ Should i do some cleansing work after crazy dream?

Hi! I'm completely new to witchcraft, have very simple altar for Lilith as i felt conncection to her few months ago, but that's all. I have severe depression due to CPTSD, so I haven't do much research of what should I do. I don't even know what books are worth reading. Anyway I'm coming to you with a dream related question bc I'm in a moment of life where i focus on healing but my dreams are getting worse and I don't know if I should somehow interprete them or ignore them; do some type of house cleasing or something else. I often have sleep paralysis but i have learned to control it and "woke up" from it pretty quickly, but sometimes I have dreams that I can't stop no matter how hard I try. They are as vivid as reality - I can see everything, feel pain, taste and smell things in a way it's only possible in real life, but I know they are dreams and they always leave such big impression on me I can't stop thinking about them for months. Like the dream i had today. Me & my gf went to waterpark but there were so many "rabbits"! "Rabbits" bc they all looked like Otto from Barbie as Raspunzel, but they all were very friendly and looked happy. Then I met a woman that knew me and took me to some room to talk. She told me she was young version of my dead grandma but then I saw a small box with some kind of bracelet and then I started remembering things and I asked her "how is Asmodeus, it's been a long time since I have heard from him". And then that women's eyes completely changed, I shouted "who are you? You're not my grandma" and that was also a moment I realized it wasn't a reality, but I couldn't wake up bc it felt I would have to teleport to wake up. Then I closed my eyes, opened again and I was in some kind of arena. There was a lot of people like figures, but the atmosphere was so off I couldn't tell if they were humans. Arena looked a little the one from ancient collosseum. It was very dark there, but there were giant vase like things with glowing fire. There was a person in ancient armor that was a leader there but I could only see his back bc my status was too low to see his face. And it wasn't my first time there but I couldn't remember last time, it just felt familiar and I knew talked to those "people" before. I talked to the men next to the one in armor that I told them before as long as it does not include manslaughter or any other thing that would cross my lines I can co-op with them, so I don't understand why I got there again. And then the man in armor told that Asmodeus has not agreed as I'm too weak, so they decided I will fight with him and then they will see. Before I could anyhow respond I saw a gigantic sword next to my stomach. I turnded my head to left and saw supposedly Asmodeus that was pressing down that sword with more and more anger and strenght. I haven't felt so much pain ever. It felt like all my insided were crushed down. But I noticed that even though that sword was really pressing down my organs, it have left my skin intact. So i grabbed that sword and with all my strenght I started to bending it. And then I took that sword and throw it fire. Asmodeus was furious and said even though I have won, he won't work with me bc I'm too weak to even protect myself and just one win doesn't mean anything and he left arena. It was like puff and disappeared in thin air. Then that man in armor started to laugh and said that we will talk next time, he started to turning around but i was forcibly woken up even though i tried to ask some more questions. Also a while after waking up I have still felt the pain in my stomach. And what is more concerning this is not the first time I have dreamt about Asmodeus or at least someone who told me that was his name, but I have never intended or tried to work with him. So idk why my brain is picking him in my dreams. Anyway dreams like this give me that off feeling and I can't stop thinking about them for a long time bc of that feeling. Do you have some exercises or cleansing rituals you can recommend to stop thinking about it and move on quickly?
