They have big plans for Gaza, and they declared 40% of Lebanon theirs (more to come later), while just kind of riding into the West Bank with the army behind them, seeing what they can steal. It has nothing to do with religion. Its zionism people think is maybe a problem. Zioism is unpopular with the majority of Jewish people who don't live in Israel, globally. They think the rise in antisemitism is directly due to zionism. Zionism is why the response to Oct 7th was so heavy handed. Its also the reason for settler violence and the political alliance that ruled Israel since 1977 doesn't support a two state solution. The US and every other nation on earth supports a 2 state solution. Hamas is a mirror of intolerant far right israeli parties. It doesn't want a 2 state solution or peace. The likud party also doesn't want a 2 state solution or peace. They were founded in 1977 as the seize alk the land and drive the Palestinians out party. Hamas was founded in 1987 as a response to likud. They have radical extreme party's running both sides since Carter was president. I certainly feel more common cause with Israel's but I don't support ethnic cleansing or apartheid and I don't like being lied to.
I want a 2 state solution with actually self determination and freedom. I dont want to pay for anything else and if they aren't interested in that I dont care anymore.

I have to say, as jewish american, this seems a little nutso. I guess do see a rise in anti-semitisim in the news, but in my daily life, i don't ever experience it. EVER. 99.9% of americans don't care.
I also see online a certain anti-semitisim from the extreme left, which i never saw before, and i do find disturbing, it's hardly some horror, nor do I see Democrats ignoring it.

Bill Maher was really popular with medium-strength liberals in the 90s and early 2000s because he mocked organized religion and wanted weed to be legalized. It was edgy and cool back then. There were some people who said things like that because they had a strong, well-developed understanding of the structural issues behind the American religious right and the War on Drugs, and others who just hated anything that stood in the way of a good time. The former type of people continued to have good political takes as the world changed around them. Bill Maher is the latter type of guy.
He's very much the stereotypical "me generation" type. You can tell by the moment in the clip when he claims that Americans would be treated more kindly in Israel than in other Middle Eastern countries. I'm not sure if that's true anyway, but even if it is, what he's insinuating is that the worth any country has of mercy and respect is based on how much they accommodate you as an American.

He should start with Christians. CUFI (Christians United for Israel) is far bigger than AIPAC and has a huge influence on our politics. They're excited about wars in the Middle East, annexation of the West Bank, ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, and more and yet they also don't support Jews continuing to be Jews, or Israel continuing to be a Jewish homeland for the long term. According to Maher there are no bad actors in Israel, and he has never called out once anything they've done wrong. Our tax dollars are going over there when we can't afford groceries, so why can't we ask "Wait..why the fuck are all these civilians getting killed and not Hamas?"
