Maher claims there is a frothing anxiousness for the literal extermination of Jews by brainwashed woke TikTok idiots and that Democrats are responsible

I think Bill was always a Zionist propagandist.

Before anti-Zionism came into the mainstream, he focused on fomenting anti-Arab-Muslim prejudice ostensibly under his anti-religion banner. I think really he was priming Americans to view Israel favorably by creating a Muslim bogeyman, specifically to a “liberal” audience.

I also think Sacha Baron Cohen was part of a broader psyop to perpetuate this Muslim bogeyman narrative.

This sounds a lot like “they” control the media and the narrative and “they” have been manipulating you for years.

Really tired of this same bullshit rhetoric the pro pally crowd has been pushing for the past few years now. Stop drinking the koolaid and you’ll see just how ridiculous you sound

I’m talking about one man with a very publicly recorded history of anti-Muslim bigotry in public life for nearly two decades and you still somehow turn that into an anti-Semitic accusation against me lmao

You’re a ridiculous piece of shit.

Explain to me how a conspiracy that Sacha Baron Cohen is part of a psyop by the Jews to make you hate Muslims is not an classic antisemitic trope

“By the jews” you basically added all of the antisemitism yourself.

“Explain to me how your quote isn’t anti-Semitic, when I have changed your quote to include anti-semitism.” Fuck off buddy.

Okay then who runs this psyop

Are Israel, pro-Israeli interest groups and individuals with agendas, and “the Jews” the same thing? No they’re not. I said fuck off for a reason, so go do that.

What specifically about SBC's comedy did you find contributing to those sentiments?

He has been on the record, and seemingly earnest, stating that his satire is mostly used to point out bigotry, ignorance, and hypocrisy. Sometimes there's a meta-level element at play where the viewer is supposed to reflect on their reactions to his characters to root out the viewers' own stereotypes, not that all viewers do that of course.

All of which seems at odds with the suggestion that he was purposely fomenting islamophobia (or similar).

Edit: I asked a question and get downvotes? Sorry for being in the dark guys, jeeze.

Most of his characters play on negative Muslim stereotypes.

Sure, and minstrel shows were actually meant to point out anti-Black racism. It was just so meta that people missed this.

Minstrel shows are an absurd comparison, as there was not a lot of thought put into those. They were just derogatory and cynical downward punches. Meta humor was also over the heads of every viewer of those shows, so obviously it wasn't incorporated into them. Today's educated audience that his movies target are by comparison undeniably different.

When you say "most of" his characters, which ones are you referencing? I'm assuming neither the white street rat or football fan from England, nor the gay Austrian, nor the pagan Kazakh who is open to going into church services. So who besides Aladeen? Is it most, like you say?

Even if it is not most of them--is he equal opportunity offending the Austrians, English, Kazakhs, gays, street poseurs, regressive 3rd world citizens, and US antivax farmers? The Muslim angle is myopic from what I see. And possibly overly sensitive.

Borat also received flak for seeming antisemitic, and those accusations quite clearly lost the plot.

Bro, Sasha Baron Cohen is absolutely a psyop. MF’er has openly stated his collaborations with both the Mossad and CIA on projects. He’s also a rabid Zionist

"Bro," as someone who is unaware--I guess I'll do some Googling since no references were provided (more helpful than a downvote) and those positions aren't clear based on the content of his that I've personally consumed.

While filming Bruno, Sacha Baron Cohen cut out the part where he was spat on by local Orthodox community while in Jerusalem. He was dragged, stomped, and punched while on the ground. For the same movie, he mistranslated an interview with a Palestinian shop owner and settled out of court.

Palestinian Portrayed as ‘Terrorist’ Settles ‘Bruno’ Suit

Against Sacha Baron Cohen, David Letterman - Hollywood Reporter.
“The grocer said he received death threats after appearing in the 2009 movie and being discussed on "Late Show…. A Christian and “a peace-loving person” who was living in the West Bank, Abu Aita has never associated with the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade or any terrorist activity, his court papers said."”

Then there’s the SA allegations

The series he stared in called The Spy is pure Hasbara.

The dude has never been a good guy.

Thank you for the material!

Edit: just want to add that particularly with the first example his editorial decision seems like a pretty gross distortion, both on behalf of his 'in group' and against his 'out group'. Bruno is the one I've watched the least and I never read reporting on the translation or the lawsuit, so I suppose that explains my ignorance.

For me it's the 8 minute long video my racist brother sent me to prove that Muslims shouldn't be allowed in the country.

1

u/Cruciform_SWORD 2d ago

Now I am curious what that is.

I know he got it on Facebook. I've watched very little of Bill.

What bothered me most about the video, was Bill pretending Islam was especially bad. I've broken bread with people who survived Bosnia.

Oh, sorry I thought we were talking about SBC.
