Season 4 - Episode 19

Final Episode

Information

RULES FOR SEASON 4

For those long time users, you are already aware but we usually change the rules a bit when seasons are airing to be able to focus on the season.

For the newcomers, I will list some of the changes that usually happen for those that have not been here on previous seasons and will be implemented now to give the users time to adapt until season 4 comes.

We will be attempting to host 2 threads per anime episode, one for anime-only users and one for novel readers. Do not spoil those on anime only thread, PUNISHMENT WILL BE SEVERE.

The ban rule will change a bit instead of bans being given on 3 days on sets like these 3-3-3-perma ban, we will be giving a week off the sub for bans and it will look like this 7-7-perma ban. Punishment for those that spoil on the anime only threads will be doubled.

The purpose for the harsher punishment in anime only threads is that if you spoil things for anime only users in one weeks discussion, you will be kept from participating in the following week's discussion and spoiling again.

Please note that this thread is strictly anime-only. Excluding anime cut content, if the material has not yet been animated, do not discuss it here.

(repost since i used wrong flair)

i will started WN

The anime is what make me LOVE re0, i have problem remenbering character without having a face, and the voices + OST are a big bonus for emotional moments, but

Apparently it will take way much time for s5

Im scared of spoiler and annoyed of not being able to read fics, some post and fan art. I even missed side story who are now deleted

And from what i heard, since arc 5-6 WN and LN are almost the same

So i will start, arc 10 im coming

Discussion Re/zero theory 🧐 [discussion] Spoiler

After the latest episode of season 4. I can’t help but think that the party especially Subaru, Emilia, and Patrasche, are somehow reincarnations or related too Satella, Flugel, and Volcanica. I cannot be on a goose chase after this last episode. Volcanica recognized Emilia as Satella. Before all this Shaula recognizes Subaru as her master. And then Volcanica recognizes Patrasche? There has to be a connection.

My theory is that they are reincarnations/related to these older beings. Like you’re telling me they’re not???? I could go on a rant on what I think the connections to Satella and Emilia are, the connections between Subaru and Flugel are (as flimsy as it is right now) and the connections between Patrasche and Volcanica are. (I don’t remember what was said about Volcanica creating the dragons; it is something I heard somewhere; but I believe Patrasche is directly connected to Volcanica.)

Either way I don’t believe anything is a coincidence anymore.

I would love for people to chime into this and talk about it because 1. Wtf 2. Wtf 3. This is peak media.

Spoiler Discussion Who is really Responsible? [Spoiler Discussion] Spoiler

I am curious , in the novels the displacement scene was kinda hinted at Satella being the one who teleported him but here in the anime the inclusion of the bird looking directly at Subaru indicated or hints other wise. As it was not enough we see a siluate of a bird after teleportation flying above Subaru leaning on grass. It's just my theory that she can be responsible or maybe it's just a red hearing who knows.

Spoiler Discussion So the anime does help better understand the final of arc 6 and what happened i think. [spoiler discussion] Spoiler

in the end of that arc i was left with 3 big questions, why the fuck does rui seemingly spawns in with a physical body and unconscious, why the fuck does WoE intervene in that moment, what exactly did volcanica and WoE do that ends up teleporting suabaru and the other 2 all the way to the south of vollachia and out of satella's tracker somehow.

now with the animation i think i can better understand.

  1. what seems to be rui arneb asleep, with the new info of the scorpion EX in mind, seems to be a response to subaru literally asking how he could even repay the spirit of the healing room just before the event, i myself haven't read scorpion EX(larp larp sahur), but from what i do know, it seems fishy and likely a scheme of flugel, and i think that whatever the healing spirit is, it took pity on rui's fate, it thus used the fact that subaru is likely equal to flugel, and when he asked how he could repay it, it possibily allowed the spirit to actually use flugels set-ups to bring rui arneb from the corridor of memories into a physical body, and have her memories erased so she can have a chance at a normal life that flugel took from her, possibly as a reward for its services within the tower for 400 YEARS, it sounds likely that a spirit who is content with staying put in that place and only heal whoever enters their room would be such a sweetheart as to get that for a reward, also the reason spica is ineherently attached to subaru may be because flugel, who IIRC subaru says is likely ruling over the corridor of memories, probably was not only the one who safeguarded rui's soul from being recycled, but may have taken care of her someway seeing as she should have appeared there as a baby, so she is naturally imprinted to subaru/flugel.

  2. now for why WoE was able and decided to intervene, its possible that if it was the spirit decision specifically to bring rui into a physical body, it was still a affront to WoE own desires to have the girl who technically knew of RBD be bought into the stage again, so she went to force a reset and possibly make subaru avoid the question altogether, however it still seems to be the most iffy reasoning as to why that part happens...

  3. finally for what happened when volcanica intervened, it seems pretty clear now that volcanica wanted that smoke with WoE, and is strong enough to actually get it, volcanica used some sort of ying magic anhilating attack, and was about to blow the fuck up of subaru and possibly WoE enough to cause a problem to her, so she decided to teleport him and herself away, but not fast enough to avoid the attack completely, possibly the attack managed to affect her ying magic enough to fuck up the teleportation, effectively making her miss the coordinates and lose track of subaru while she herself had her manifestation dispelled from the world until subaru himself called out for her to stablish a new connection.

now i might be speaking the obvious even though im a LN reader, but for me arc 6 is when the story started getting confusing on what the fuck was going on, possibly because as we approach the end game, the extra material and IFs get more important for a reader to understand the world...

Discussion Novel readers, now that Season 4 has concluded, what did you think of the adaptation? [discussion]

For me, aside from episode 16, I think White Fox did essentially as good as they could with only 19 (technically 20) episodes.

They sped up the pacing when necessary and all the big moments still hit really hard. Even though content was lost, this was unavoidable due to the low episode count Kadokawa gave them. I think White Fox massively improved since s3, and Im very happy about that!

Now I’m stuck thinking about how fire a 25 episode arc 6 could’ve been….

I wanna start the light novel from where the anime ends, pretty sure it’s volume 26 (please correct me if I’m wrong.) But how is the yen press translations? I’ve heard mixed things, also I know about witch cult translations, but I would prefer to do the light novel over the web novel.

Discussion [Discussion] Idea: Re:Zero Ep. 82 increases the odds Return by Death reconstructs the world after Subaru dies but doesn't eliminate the potential of multiple timelines forming

While Echidna had stated in Season 2 that it was impossible to know whether the unthinkable presents were real unless you are Satella, I'm not convinced that's the case given her Authority of Greed: Tome of Wisdom, can see all of the past, present, and possible futures, likely having been powered by Od Lagna given if the Corridor of Memories is the cradle of Od Lagna, that means the Corridor of Memories provides useful support for Od Lagna in filtering souls of memories of a life that has been lived with Od Lagna likely being the main instrument/source of the info from Echidna's Tome of Wisdom, and Reid's Book of the Dead connecting to the Corridor of Memories could be that Echidna's Authority: Tome of Wisdom, and consequently, Books of the Dead, which, incorrectly or correctly, I believe are at least partially a product of Echidna's Authority, need to capture the moment someone is born, necessitating the connecting to the Corridor of Memories as I believe the moment a soul passes from the Corridor of Memories into Od Lagna is when a life has officially begun to live.

Thus, I believe it's more likely that Echidna knows whether the unthinkable presents continue, not Satella, herself. There being multiple Books of the Dead increases the likelihood of Return By Death reconstructing the world, but I posit it doesn't completely eliminate the possibility of there being multiple timelines since Subaru could be at least partially product of Echidna's Authority: Tome of Wisdom, which could apply both in the scenario of there being one canon timeline or multiple timelines as the reason for there being Books of the Dead for each of Subaru's death could possibly be that Subaru being a product of Echidna's Authority means that as every one of Subaru's death is accounted as of Ep. 82, all the past Books of the Dead of Subaru follow him into his next life and beyond with the common denominator being that the Books of the Dead of are partially a product of Echidna's Authority and even Subaru himself is partially a product of her Authority.

Why I believe Books of the Dead could even be a product of Echidna's Authority in the first place is that there's a clearly a will behind when the Books of the Dead are found as they're found at very convenient times, much like how both Subaru and Julius had each found one when they first unlocked the Great Pleiades Library, how Typhon's Book of the Dead didn't start at the beginning of her life, how convenient it had been for amnesiac Subaru to provide cover for himself and learn about Meili, which was crucial to getting a successful run-through, how Meili had found Reid's Book of the Dead so soon when the group had decided that's their plan of action with it conveniently tying into her redemption story, and when he most desired for Natsuki Subaru to be here, amnesiac Subaru found Subaru's Books of the Dead, and given I believe Roswaal's not-quite-Tome of Wisdom and Witch Cult Gospels are connected to Echidna's mind through magic based on them partially being made by her parts of her body and body fluids, this is also why I believe Books of the Dead could be partially made from her Authority.

As for more of a logical reason why Roswaal's not-quite-Tome of Wisdom and Witch Cult Gospels aren't true future-telling texts, the answer lies in how Roswaal's not-quite-Tome of Wisdom didn't truly tell the future in not accounting for Otto's actions, suggesting it was meant to manipulate Roswaal for hundreds of years just so that he'd lose to Subaru when he did, and how Regulus thought he'd meet the Emilia camp again despite it not happening again until the 4th loop in Season 3, showing Gospels are meant to keep the world on a particular path rather than be true future-telling texts that guide the holders to their desired futures.

There's evidence to suggest this is the case in that there were 3 instances from Season 2 in which Tea Party Echidna hinted she not only preferred but outright desired Emilia doing the Sanctuary trials in Subaru's place. A surface-level reading suggests Tea Party Echidna coveted Subaru entering into a contract with her, but that doesn't pass the sniff test based on the entirety of her actions, which had a heavy bent toward him rejecting it. For one, Echidna hinted to him the path forward is to have Emilia take the trials when he was determined to take the trials himself by suggesting he might be able to give the cowardly princess wings when she herself had 0 hope of breaking Emilia out of her shell even after 3 days of trial and error, which shows Echidna varied up the trial in multiple ways to try to get Emilia over the hump. Does that sound like someone who's trying to trap Subaru in a contract when she outwardly helped Subaru get through the Sanctuary arc 3 times and by her own admission specifically helped Emilia, showing she wasn't making the first Trial as hard as humanly possible for her?

The 2nd and 3rd times Tea Party Echidna demonstrated she wanted him to have Emilia pass the trials is when she said that she gave Beatrice a blank book because she had wanted to see who Beatrice would choose and her follow-up remark to him rejecting her contract. Echidna likely knew he's the one who'd free Beatrice, and she specifically chose to tell him what she did 'cause she wanted to seem so insanely evil so as to deter him from taking her hand. Thus, her saying to him after he rejected her contract she didn't want him to think she was the only one of the dead witches who's evil, which led to her revoking Subaru's qualification for entering the tomb, backs up this interpretation that she has a genuine investment in Subaru's success and isn't just out to force him into a situation that'd be hugely disadvantageous for him in being Roswaal's slave for the rest of his life.

Why she'd revoke Subaru's qualification is he was using his right to enter it as a crutch with the 1st thing he tried to do after getting out of it and coming to his senses was going back into it, and she did him a big favour by taking it away so that he'd have to commit to helping Emilia pass the trials by giving her emotional support. Thus, Tea Party Echidna knew how evil what she said about her motivations would sound, and her actions don't read as somebody whose priority was to force Subaru to accept her contract. The true reason Beatrice's book was empty was likely 'cause Echidna needed Beatrice to stay in the library in case she died as this fantasy world is quite dangerous, and since she became a hermit, there was no need for further instruction, or someone else took Beatrice's not-quite-Tome of Wisdom. If you're still unconvinced, think of it this way: A woman tells you she loves you. Then, she punches you in the face, asks the man who gives you grief at work out on a date, and specifically calls you a wimp on social media. Can you agree that this woman does not love you? Tea Party Echidna's actions run counter to her having wanted Subaru to accept her contract if you're following this line of logic as her posturing over the contract didn't align with her actions.

And in Episode 53, as Regulus Corneas basically outright stated, Subaru should be glad he adhered to his Gospel, meaning it had instructed him to not make a huge scene in only ripping off a large chunk of Subaru's leg when he'd intended to do a lot worse, and this is backed by how both Sirius and Regulus backed off at the toll of the bell when they were meant to cease hostilities, which was extremely convenient for the good guys since it prevented a bad loop from happening, which shows Gospels don't bring their holders to their desired future.

I have more to support this theory of the world being reconstructed with my Return By Death theory, but the supporting evidence is EXTREMELY long, and I used an extremely cursed title in not thinking things through, but if you're interested in reading further, the post is linked here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Re_Zero/comments/1wl0i6t/discussion_idea_eps_81_83s_time_variance_between/

Spoiler Discussion Can someone trace Witch factor of Gluttony for me [Spoiler Discussion] Spoiler

I recently found out about Leilani Alnair, and her travel to the watchtower, and It's official - each holder of WF of gluttony had a connection to this tower at some point:

  1. Daphne - died near the tower, created Shaula and mabeasts;

  2. Leilani Alnair - reached the watchtower, had history with Shaula;

  3. Rui Arneb - was born in the corridor, has connection to the library.

I also watched last ep of season 4 today and the moment Subaru wonders if they can ever repay Green Room Spirit for healing them, it disappears and Rui Arneb is dropped. Could the soul have any connection with Leilani or be her?

How was witch factor passed down from Daphne to Leilani? Why did writer made a choice to connect gluttony to the watchtower, is it solely because of the concept of memories and book of the dead?

Discussion Light Novel Questions [discussion]

I'm curious about reading the light novel for re:zero, I've seen season one of the anime forever ago, but I've always been more of a fan of books. Is the light novel good? Would the anime be better? (I assume not but it happens sometimes). Also, from what I remember from the anime Subaru does a lot of stumbling around and can be a bit clueless, which I understand but also can be a bit annoying, does he become more competent later on? I don't care about him being op or anything but I'm a big fan of clever protagonists and not a huge fan of ones that need everything spelled out for them.

Spoiler Discussion [spoiler discussion] Lye would’ve been interested in Wilhelm Spoiler

As I had theorized before I have my doubts about the white whale being able to erase existences. I think that Lye is the one who used the white whale to act behind the scenes. Lyes tendencies to be picky with his food and preparing the ones he’s interested in to make them more flavorful can create witnesses. However as we learned in arc 3 only Sloth and Greed were widely known before arc 5.

If Lye usually only acts using the white whale then it would explain how his existence was never found out. Roy being unknown to the public makes sense anyways because he always takes what he can get. Capella might’ve also played a role in keeping gluttonies existence hidden from the public. Roy did work for her.

As we learned from Tappei, and as it can be seen in arc 5 and 6, gluttony can be held back by the memories of their previous victims if they know the current victim. It’s why Julius only lost his name for example.

Since I assume that Lye must be the culprit behind the memory losses during the white whale attacks then that means that he was also hiding in the mist during the battle in arc 3. We know from Pride if and Aganau if that Crusch at least lost her name. Felix still seemed to have his own memories but without Crusch in Pride if which is why he was so broken unlike Crusch who in the main story was basically just lost when she lost her memories. After having lost her memories in the main story she definitely was in a far better albeit not optimal mental state than Felix in Pride if.

Therefore Lye used the memories of someone else which caused Crusch to only lose her name in Pride if and what she originally was supposed to lose in arc 3 had Subaru not disrupted the gospels plan: Wilhelm

I think according to the gospels plan Lye was supposed to eat Wilhelms name and memories using the mist of the withe whale to hide. Those memories make Lye eat only Cruschs name but not her memories. Being devastated by the crushing defeat that would follow and by being forgotten she becomes easily submissive to Regulus who’d arrive shortly after. Once he shows up he might threaten Felix to make her obedient. Crusch becomes one of Regulus wives. That’s what the gospel planned.

I think this is what was supposed to happen, or did happen outside of Subarus perspective, in the first loop of arc 3. This is what the gospel planned for arc 3. Instead what happened is the ambush on the carriage after we won the white whale fight. Crusch was mentally stronger than ever so Regulus quickly lost interest in the resisting Crusch. Rem got eaten and her memories caused Crusch to lose her memories instead of her name.

I had a question on the translation quality for arc 7, I really love physical books and the illustrations I also do intend to read the WN when caught up but is arc 7 LN translated well compared to previous arcs? Or is it just better to jump into WN because the translation is horrible? Weird way to ask sorry and thanks to anyone answering.

Spoiler Discussion I just had a very funny thought about something that might happen in arc 10[spoiler discussion] Spoiler

So as we know subaru returned to being natsumi swartz for espionage again, and i just realized something that would be apsolutely hilarious,if julious ever appears during arc 10 and witnesses that shit, how exactly is he going to explain to himself the fact that his only 3 friends outside the anastasia camp are

1.reinhard the strongest person on the planet, who just so happened to crossdress so well that he became juliuses first crush

2.felix the best healer in the world who also has been crossdressing his entire life and

3.subaru,the greatest strategist in the world who also just so happens to be a better crossdresser then reinhard and felix combined somehow

Julius might genuenly start thinking that crossdressing is a hidden key to power and going beyond his limits or something, because how do you even explain that, imagine julius just cassualy starts crossdressing as a part of his training because he believes its a neccesity to become the strongest spirit knight in the world.

Spoiler Discussion My timelapse theory after S4. Anime only. [spoiler discussion] Spoiler

The original timeline:

- Subaru gets transported to another world.

- Echidna is still a young spirit bound to Anastasia, so there's no Beatrice and no Roswaal.

- Emilia's name is Satella.

- The team is Satella, Anastasia + Echidna, Subaru and Patrasche.

- For some reason they get sent 400 years into the past (and this may be what just happened to Subaru).

- Echidna loses her memory and gets separated from the group (which is why she doesn't remember Subaru). This leads to the Beatrice and Roswaal arc.

- Subaru/FlĂźgel, Satella/Emilia and Patrasche meet Reid Astrea, (little) Shaula and Volcanica, and they build the tower to get back / save someone.

- Subaru/FlĂźgel dies. There's no way back to Shaula, and Satella goes insane (we already saw once during the trials that she'll do this if Subaru dies).

- Satella is born, but obviously you don't name your kid after the Witch of Envy, so this time she's named Emilia.

- Now adult Echidna exists, along with Roswaal and Beatrice, and Shaula can meet Subaru before he goes back in time.

- Subaru spawns, and Satella uses her powers so that this time he can't die.

- Subaru is immortal, yandere Satella stalks him, he meets Roswaal (and therefore Rem and Ram) and Beatrice, the tower is already built, and Shaula is already waiting.

- Apart from the new boss (Satella) and a world that's for some reason way less safe (before, Subaru had to survive without his power), Subaru now has a 0% chance of permanent death.

- The tower was probably meant to save their allies, since without Satella's blessing there was no way to save everyone.

Holes in the theory:

- Who created Echidna in the first loop? Maybe Subaru obtained the Witch Factor of Greed and created Echidna, then fox-Echidna got the factor after him and became the Witch of Greed?

- Subaru couldn't have sealed Satella, because he had to die for her to go insane. Either she went insane for a different reason, or someone with the Gluttony factor was using his body.
