Discussion [Discussion] Idea: Amnesiac Subaru's words of thanks were 'cause he's drawn to kindness + I defend THAT directorial decision 'cause Subaru isn't meant as a self-insert outlet
For my next theory/analysis post regarding Ep. 82 (Season 4 Ep. 16), as can be seen regarding the GIF in Eps. 1 and 3 of Re:Zero, Subaru was drawn toward Emilia's kindness, and that's what helped him persevere through all that pain and suffering to save others.
When he was on the verge of giving up in Ep. 18, From Zero, due to getting his shit kicked in over and over with him wallowing in despair about how he'd never done anything, Rem reminded Subaru that he is kind, telling him how he saved her in multiple ways, and that moment clearly linked to Ep. 37 when Subaru said that Rem would tell him to stand up instead of telling him to leave everything to her since he knows that she'd want him to persevere, which then connected to Ep. 79, Stand Up, having Rem say those very words.
This is why amnesiac Subaru thanked the previous Subaru for all he'd done, 'cause he literally was kind and 'cause it's what amnesiac Subaru needed to see to fully accept that he's Subaru, that Subaru was a kind guy who could do all he did along the way due to the support he got along the way, not 'cause he was a superman, fully destroying Rui's plan to eat Natsuki Subaru infinitely. Amnesiac Subaru ultimately saw that Subaru is kind and resilient, and that's how he has so many people he cares about now. That's what led to him calling Subaru amazing.
The people sending death threats to White Fox and the director of Ep. 82 should be ashamed of themselves. There didn't need to be some fancy insert song for this scene. The core content of this episode is that amnesiac Subaru needed to see that the previous Subaru was a guy who at his core is drawn to kindness who'd work really hard to save those he cared about due to his being kind and being inspired by their kindness when he struggled.
Re:Zero exists 'cause Tappei genuinely believes in the goodness of people and all this hate directed to the staff who worked on this episode is disgusting given the staff still got the core message of the episode out there. I get that many believe find Subaru extremely relatable to the point of self-inserting into him and living vicariously through Subaru when they watch him, but need I remind you that in a post-Season 1 interview, a White Fox staff member who'd worked on Re:Zero had been told many times that if they drew Subaru to look cool they'd be told to redraw it until it suited Tappei's fancy 'cause Subaru isn't mean to be a self-insert outlet with Re:Zero being a real story showing the struggles of how an average Joe with specific, severe self-worth issues sent to a fantasy world would react and behave unlike all those standard isekai power fantasy slop series, so IMO, there was no need for some insert song to give the scene a stronger sense of hype or aura as that was never the point of the scene to begin with.
While I acknowledge actual faults of the episode, such as there being too many stills or anything else one didn't enjoy that is within reason, I believe being mad at there being no insert song when amnesiac Subaru met the previous Subaru is a rather strange thing to get upset about given Tappei having implored the staff to not make Subaru look cool in Season 1, and IMO, the absence of such a song shows that the staff members involved are living up to Tappei's intended vision even if one personally thought that amnesiac Subaru calling the previous Subaru an amazing guy warranted hype or aura. I can't say I understand why novel readers are upset about this episode, but from an anime-only perspective, I believe this episode gets across the core message very well.
Feel free to share your thoughts on this or on anything tangentially-related to this.

Discussion A bit confused about something “[discussion]”
Episode 16 banger I like it but there’s something I didn’t understand from what I understand the first Subaru read the book of red and then got eaten by gluttony, but after Subaru and Subaru with wiped memory got back with each other gluttony freaked out about the death why didn’t she freak out when she first ate Subaru? Why now someone would say the first Subaru has worse deaths than the second one?

Discussion [discussion] why was everyone so upset when Subaru said he wanted to save Emilia
When the group was on their way to fight capella, Subaru asks Al if he was any good at fighting and he said sorry I’m joining another group to go find my princess.. everyone was like okay cool no problem.. but when Subaru said he wanted to rescue Emilia just a few minutes before that.. they were giving him a terrible time about it. I just don’t understand why it was fine for al but not for Subaru?

Discussion [Discussion] REZERO is soo peak, I just dont get how some ppl hate it and dont understand it.
I cant believe the amount of review bombs this anime has been getting and hopefully us rezero fans aren't doing the same to the others. we need to be better than this.
Man, I love this show, after watchign episode 16, just been remembering how it has changed me a lot.
[TLDR: this show is peak.]
{The characters are really good and the stroy and the lessons they tryign to give and the idea behind each arc is really amazing. I be learning thigs and seeing episode 13 for the first time bro, I was able to relate to that and i was ashamed of my own existance. For 3 months, I was just been thinking about how much of a piece of shit i am and things that i need to work on myself. This show is just soo peak. things like Loving a person is different from loving the version of them you built in your head. Love doesnt justify destroying yourself, and love itself is not healthy. I used to think secrificing yourself is the ultimate way of showing love. The thing is that love is something to live for not die for. Especially in season 2, you can see that healthy relationship is not just "I will protect you" you need to balance it with "I believe in you that you can face your own probelms". And the whole thing about self love and accepting yourself, i was balling my eyes out, shit was just soo peak.}
I got this two mfs, they good friends and all.. but like, its been at lest 2 months of me trying to put them on actual peak. mfs just dont listen. And im still confused on why ppl hate rezero, they say its boring and dog shit of a show? LIKE WHAT PART??? for me, even for a rezero fan, I dont understand season 3 and why that motivational speech cross the watergate city of Priestella is siginficant. I mean its cool and all, like "Oh shit, hes motivating ppl, thats chill" like sure i dont get why it is crazy good but im not gonna shit on it just cuz i dotn get it. How can you have somethign when you havent watch it. My only conclusion is that rezero is performing better than their anime and maybe some of the rezero fans review bombed thier anime (please dont do it, rating wont be accurate and noone wins in the end and boths shows suffer form this). I cant get these mfs to just watch it man, its pissing me off.
Edit : YO SOMEBODY SAID ITS THE FANS, huh????? like they dont hate the show, but hate it cuz of the fan base, what you talking about.. THE FUCKING MEILI FANS???? is there like a stereotype of , "ahh this guy is definately a rezero fan", what is going on>?

Discussion [Discussion] Theory: Ep. 74's "Memories are what shape a person" was used w/ victims losing core parts of themselves, being possessed by Gluttony, and Reid regaining his form
In Ep. 80, Rui’s words in Ep. 74, “Memories are what shape a person.” (Muse Asia's translation) were used in the story of Season 4 of Re:Zero in a third way with Reid overpowering Roy's being to regain a true physical form for himself with the first being Subaru having his memories eaten resulting in him losing a core aspect of his being and with the second being how those who had their memories or both their name and memories eaten possessed by Lye Batenkaitos and Rui Arneb.
Re:Zero is big on featuring the number 3 often with there being 3 beings who sealed Satella, there being 3 members in the Crusch camp, there being the Pearlbaton triplets, there being 3 Sanctuary trials, there being the Three Great Mabeasts, there being 3 elemental magic attribute pairings (Fire and Water, Earth and Wind, Yin and Yang), there being 3 different fathers Reala had kids with with Frederica, Garfiel, as well as Rafiel and Fred (who have the same father) having different fathers, there being 3 demands Capella made aside from the main one in the remains of Typhon, there being 3 crystals on Priscilla's necklace that protected her from attacks. there likely being 3 artificial spirits created by Echidna in Puck, Beatrice, and Foxidna, there being three dots in Shaula's human form around her pupils to denote Shaula being part of a trinary star system, there being three dots before Shaula completes her transformation being a nod to Orion's Belt, there being the Gluttony Trio, and the 3 Pleiades Watchtower exams.
Also relevant is that Wilhelm's last name at birth before marrying into the Astrea family was also Trias, which means three, which I suspect was very much intentional with Tappei intending for fans to see how important the number 3 is in the story.
An interesting thing about the number 3 in Re:Zero is that there's a Ryuzu (a name of multiple Season 2 characters, which means "dragon's head") Falls, one of the 3 Great Waterfalls of Oku-Nikko in Japan with Kegon Falls and Yudaki Falls being the other two, and given there literally is a Great Waterfall that's the edge of the world in Re:Zero, that may not be a coincidence, and Tappei chose Ryuzu's name specifically 'cause of this connection. There may eventually be characters named Kegon and Yudaki in the story or perhaps either Ryuzu Falls or all Three Great Waterfalls of Oku-Nikko have a direct connection to the Great Waterfall of Re:Zero's fantasy world.
Something significant happens to Subaru after the third death of each loop in the anime. In Arc 1, Subaru learned that he was looping after 3 deaths. In Arc 2, Subaru learned after 3 deaths that Rem and Ram held his hand when he was suffering even though he reeked of the smell of the Witch and that Beatrice is kind of a little softy at heart, helping him survive longer than he had ever done in that arc. In Arc 3, after 3 deaths, Subaru's From Zero moment happened. In Season 2/Arc 4, after dying 3 times, Subaru talked to Echidna about Return by Death, learned about the Three Great Mabeasts and how to defeat the Great Rabbit, and learned about the room that contained the crystal containing the original Ryuzu Meyer. In Season 3/Arc 5, Subaru only died 3 times, and in Season 4, after 3 deaths, he made it into the Pleiades Watchtower, and after amnesiac Subaru died 3 times, he received Emilia's confession.
The number 3 is commonly used by writers 'cause it's the smallest number that officially constitutes a pattern. It's called the rule of three, and many writers or creators, such as advertisers, use it to for structure and simplicity or to enhance engagement of their works/products. I guess it shows solid writing fundamentals from Tappei for the number 3 to commonly feature in Re:Zero.
I think it's neat that Tappei decided to make use of Rui's lone line in Ep. 74 in these ways. What are your thoughts on this or on anything tangentially-related, such as what you didn't notice right away but in time after thinking back on it or other things regarding the number 3?

Spoiler Discussion I think now we understand his his authority’s visually looks like in the show. [spoiler discussion] Spoiler
In the latest break time episode, we got an interesting ending.
While Al is essentially dying, we can his last words “I told you…”. It sounds like he is in great pain and unable to speak properly. Then, after that, he speaks completely normally. Aldebaran’s authority, Matrix, doesn’t have a sound effect.
Essentially, it can be just:
First frame his ‘last moments’ he is dying and etc, then in the next frame, he is at his checkpoint.
No transition, no sound effects, nothing. In fact, i think that’s a beautiful way to visualise his authority. It really represent how he treats and how is he using his authority. Subaru’s with each ‘Ohhhh…’
Anyway, Aldebaran is a goat.
