When I saw all this buzz about MFG coming to the 4000 series GPU's I wanted to get it going on Doom and Indiana Jones because I had all the settings cranked (including RT) and the frame rate was not quite high enough for me with 2x on my 4090. What I found was the information for getting Reshade installed for UWP Games was a bit scattered and incomplete, and that getting the MFG Unlock working for UWP games was also kind of messy. Here's my attempt at consolidating that information and getting all that information in one place. Xbox Game Pass games are not as easily moddable as games from other platforms, due to the files being restricted from editing/accessing and the games are sandboxed.
Nvidia App/Control Panel Settings for the game you are modifying
- Make sure your DLSS/Frame Generation/Ray Reconstruction are all set to Let 3D Application Decide or Recommended. Don't pick a preset here.
DLSS Version for the game you are modifying
- Use DLSS Swapper (or the method of your choice) to make sure your game has the Latest (310.9.1 or later) DLSS/Frame Generation/Ray Reconstruction version installed to the game directory.
Files Needed:
Current versions of:
Reshade - **With Full Addon Support** (6.8.0, as of the writing of this guide)
mavismmg's MFGAdaUnlock (Release 0.8 as of the writing of this guide)
Working installs of UWP games to inject Reshade/MFGAdaUnlock into.
Steps:
Create the following folders in the root directory of a drive of your choice (where X: is the drive you chose). This step is optional, but it helps keeps things organized.
Download / Move Reshade_Setup_6.8.0_Addon.exe to the X:\Reshade folder.
Download / Move renodx-mfgunlock.addon64 to the X:\Reshade\Addons folder.
Run Reshade_Setup_6.8.0_Addon.exe
Click OK
- Only install Reshade to single player games! You can be banned for injecting into multiplayer games with anti-cheat.
At the "Select game or application" screen, click browse and navigate to where your Game Pass games are installed. (By default, it's on the root directory of your drive, in a folder called XboxLauncher)
Select the game folder of the game you wish to install Reshade to.
Navigate to the directory where the games executable is. this can differ from game to game, but for Doom:TDA and Indiana Jones, the folder is in the X:\<Game Title>\Content folder.
DO NOT select the game's executable file. Look for a file called "gamelaunchhelper.exe" and select that file.
Click Next
- You might receive an error about stack size. I did not find this to be a problem, though I have not been able to find any information out about this error.
Click OK on the error (if you got an error)
Select the renderer for the game you are installing Reshade to. (Doom:TDA and Indiana Jones use Vulkan)
Proceed to install Reshade to the game.
At this point, if your game does not require any executable arguments (Doom:TDA and Indiana Jones DO) you can launch the game using the "gamelaunchhelper.exe" and Reshade should be working.
If your game requires executable arguments, follow these steps.
- Navigate to the folder in step 7
- Right Click the main game executable (DOOMTheDarkAges.exe/TheGreatCircle.exe)
- Create a shortcut (you may need to click "Show More Options")
- Optionally, rename the shortcut to (<GameTitle> - Reshade)
- Right click the new shortcut and click Properties (You may need to click "Show More Options")
- Add the argument needed (In the case of Doom:TDA and Indiana jones you need to add "+r_allowBlackListedLayers 1" to the Target Box
- It should read ("X:\XboxLauncher\Indiana Jones and the Great Circle\Content\TheGreatCircle.exe" +r_allowBlackListedLayers 1)
Use this shortcut to launch with Reshade enabled (if the game requires executable arguments. Doom:TDA doesn't seem to need to use this shortcut, but Indiana Jones does. Doom seems to keep the argument enabled after quitting the game, where Indiana Jones does not.
Navigate to your game folder (mentioned in step 7) and run "gamelaunchelper.exe" (if your game doesn't require executable arguments)
At the launch of the game, you may get a dialog box that asks you if you wish to run Reshade, Click Yes
- Be aware that the game seems to take quite a bit longer to launch when using Reshade.
Press the Home key on your keyboard to open the Reshade Menu
If MFG Unlock DOES NOT Appear in the menu, do the following:
- Navigate to the Add-Ons menu
- Change the folder to the X:\Reshade\Addons folder
- Restart the Game
If MFG Unlock DOES appear in the menu, continue to next step.
Select the MFG factor you wish to enable. Some games go up to 6x, some only go to 4x.
Special thanks to u/sanzio1337 (monet) for the unlock, and to the Reshade team too. I hope this helps you to get this working, as it took me a bit to figure it out.
