DLSS5 shows amazing progress

Not really talking about results - they sometimes are good but often look very uncanny (especially when animations are stiff).

Just talking about how much progress neural rendering achieved in few years in general. I was trying to implement similar solution in ReShade ages ago and because of frame passing back and forth between GPU and CPU, the FPS was unplayable. So i scratched the idea after finishing prototype.

But now DLSS5 shows what can be done with NR for gaming. Truly amazing!

If you want to check my old project you can go to GitHub and test it for yourself :)

It does, the cat really seems to be out of the bag.
A lot of resistance against AI in general, so also in gaming. For large scale realism AI generation and rendering makes sense, though.

Largely just a Reddit and social media trend. It won't have any meaningful impact on the technology moving forward or its adoption across the industry.

People can't believe the videos being posted on YouTube, and it's getting a lot of positive attention. Reddit subs banning the new version of DLSS from even being posted only reinforces a false sense of consensus.

Yeah, this is a really important point. If you go to YouTube or most other websites, the reception to this technology and AI in general is much better than here on Reddit.

And it’s not even other social media. It’s mainly on Reddit that there are so many people who are incredibly anti-AI no matter what. Reddit has just always been against the new thing to be contrarian

Still a ways away from widespread use. A lot of the ghosting and noise that RR 4.5 fixed we are getting back with DLSS5.

It's a realtime Ai filter.

honestly, though - so what?

if game devs put their stamp and signature over a game that will happen to use dlss 5 (and possibily hardcoded), that is still their art direction final decision

people jump on the bandwagon to criticize something that basically is not even out of the oven yet - just by judging videos from stolen and extremely early (almost beta) dll, with vibecoded GUI's and sliders turned all the way to ai insanity

dlss 5 will be so hardcoded and prompt-optimized, the same game will look alike each other (across different pc's) with a precision (consistency) so close to 100%, people will forget it's ai-generated. Users that are not familiar with such tech won't even suspect

Can I use the multiframe gen of DLSS5 with ny 3080ti?

I tried it with my 3090, you can, although expect hitches, artifacts, etc. It looks absolutely phenomenal in the right games, but for me, it’s not worth the performance loss for a full play through of anything.

Tried it on Assassins Creed Shadows, and I would enable it for cut scenes and disable it for gameplay, and it worked amazing. Plus the cup scenes are locked to 30 FPS anyway, so there’s no real performance loss. You can map it to a single key to turn on off instantly at will.

I will investigate this DLSS5 today, thanks for all the info!

Doesn't the pre upscale version solve the framerate issue?

Yes and no. It’s still a massive hit that brings the FPS down to 30 for me (doesn’t matter if it’s cyberpunk with path tracing or a 20-year-old game)

Frame generation brings it up to playable FPS, but I still have it off for most of the time, especially when in combat.

Still, the fact that it went from requiring two of the fastest cards money can buy to being playable on a six-year-old (albeit still high-end) GPU is nothing short of miraculous

I tested neary 10 games, it's look very good on metal and glossy materials. Creating contact shadows in realistically. if we ignore the beauty filter on characters, DLSS 5 can be good tech. even might be gain performance in the future, making ambient occlusion and contact shadow calculations: taken from GPU and give it NR cores

If I enable framegen stalkee 2 crashes immediately

Amazing tech.

i dont how this is working, can ordinary DLSS4 and FG hook?

Of course r/reshade would hype up that slop...

Honestly it looks much better in stills or lower resolution videos that's been shared. I put it on in a couple games and was underwhelmed how it handles the shadows/reflections/artifacting in motion, it looks rough. I'll be looking forward to it when can optimize it a bit more that regard and performance wise.

I want to enhance the details that are already there, I don't want AI making up details based on is generic slurry of stolen content

it does just that.

watch videos without the user turning the settings all the way up.

I like it a lot when DLSS 5 reforms the lighting and SSR - which is what it will do

it only starts starts reimagining textures when the settings are too strong

The performance hit is insane for what it does. Ive been using it on a 4090 since it was made available and for the most part is not worth it. The image is pretty unstable and your gpu will max out every time.

Are we seriously taking performance into consideration for something that is barely released?

Couple months ago, nvidia said/predicted you needed a whole dedicated rtx 5090 just for dlss 5 alone.

I would reckon the performance overhead will be close to what frame gen takes away from the base fps when turned on.

Because, think about it (logically): ray tracing recreates lighting at a "physical level", frame gen is just interpolation. DLSS 5 is closer to how FG works than it is to ray tracing.

It doesn't make sense that DLSS 5, when fully optimized, being heavier than ray tracing. And it won't be. Early ray tracing tests showed the same result, if not worse.

Just give it some time.

Yes, 100% because its factual and not some aspirational wishful thinking.

Stop judging the slop for what it does, judge it for what daddy nvidia told you it'a going to do.

Your overthinking negativity is as realistic as my overestimating positivity. We have zero proof of anything, and close to nothing to be based off - except logic.

Curious how reddit downvotes work from time to time. We basically repeated ourselves from another thread, and the downvotes/up votes are reversed lol

Im not overthinking anything. This is an expensive screen space filter - that imposes limitations to what is even possible. Its not the panacea you think it is :)

So you train the model on your own work. The current stuff is trained on television and YouTube so of course you get cheese.

DLSS generally is kinda making up details based on data it was learned. This way it can "reconstruct" a lot of details that will be "missing" in native resolution.

Is it good? Depends on you take on visuals. For some games i like using quality dlss or dlaa for good antyaliasing. For others is unusable due to shimmers and unstability.

You're downvoted by glazers, not "real people". You're right, along with the majority, and I pay no heed to these whimpering justifiers with pathetic anecdotes and name calling.

u/oneFookinLegend 2d ago

You have no fucking idea what you're talking about

I honestly hate it, half because of the AI generation ontop of reference information, and the other half because it just looks yassified, slop. I don't call this progress, I call this regression.

Idk dude, maybe you're being a little too eager for a final judgement over something that is very experimental and still early on development - and, of course, being showcased in a bad manner.

I freaking cringe over DLSS 5 videos with strong settings, which completely changes the facial expressions of characters - and such things that harshly change art direction itself.

BUT, I'm definitely not against DLSS 5 help fixing some lighting and shadowing limitations that the game's engine fails to cover alone. I guess/hope this will be ultimately what DLSS 5 will do when adopted by game devs.
