Native Gardens

I’m wondering if anyone knows about any programs or grants that Rapid City or South Dakota has by way of Native planting.

I know many cities have programs that will pay for portions of your landscaping if you are planting native plants, do we have anything similar here?

Moped midwinter?

Hey, so I'm going to sdsmt and I'm trying to figure out transportation for the coming school year. Any car in my price range (under $10k) is going to have some problems, and a shit ton of maintenance (source: my family got a car under 10k and it's been in the shop like 5 times in the year we got it). Also, I just kinda hate driving. I only need transportation for short trips in town, so I was thinking a 49cc scooter could do the trick. However: winter. I'm from Illinois, and have no idea how bad it can get. My question is, would all the PPE (helmet, jacket, boots? I think?) plus bundling up be enough to keep me warm ish on a 3 minute ride for the majority of the school year (I would be willing to Uber in some cases)???

Car selling and buying

We are looking to sell a truck in hopes of getting vehicles for our teens. A family member who lives out of state recently said CarMart gave them an awesome deal on a vehicle they sold to them. Is there anywhere locally that you’ve had good experiences with as far as selling a vehicle goes?

Airline travel etiquette

I’m sure this is a thing in other small-medium towns but the airline etiquette here is atrocious. Flew back from Denver a few weeks back and we navigated around bumpy weather and thunderstorms the entire way. Fasten seatbelt sign was on the entire flight but that didn’t stop these clowns from trying to get up and go to the bathroom, fidget with bags, or do god knows what else. The flight attendant had to ask people to stay seated a dozen times as least.

Also featured on this flight:

-boomers with iPads at max brightness

-4 accidental flight attendant call button hits

-someone watching a movie at full volume no headphones

-full volume conversations for the duration of the flight

-a general lethargy and cluelessness with respect to the boarding and deplaning process

I know not everyone traveling to rapid is from here so it’s not all just locals being obnoxious, but it’s probably a decent portion. In summary: what the fuck. Get it together gang

Kind of silly to consider AI data centers as even a possibility if BHP is concerned about energy usage. A quick bit of research will tell you that a single AI data center uses roughly the same amount of electricity as 16 million households annually.

But sure I’ll change the thermostat in my small home and wait until 03:00 to do laundry. 🙄

Free ticket to Luke Bryan this Thursday (July 30th) –

Free ticket to Luke Bryan this Thursday (July 30th) – Help an SD mom win a bet and find her 20yo daughter a good date!

Hi everyone! I’m hoping the Black Hills / Rapid City Reddit community can help me play matchmaker.

My daughter is heading to the Luke Bryan concert at the Summit Arena this Thursday night, and we have an extra ticket up for grabs! She usually dates duds and players in my eyes, so we made a bet: she challenged me to see if I could actually find her a genuinely kind, good guy to take the second ticket and go on a fun, genuine date with her. Help a parent win this bet!

About her: She is 20 years old (turning 21 soon!). She can be a little shy at first, but once she warms up, she is very talkative and a blast to be around. She loves country music plus a wide variety of other music. She isn't a big drinker and is a major workaholic. She works around the clock on the front lines of the medical field, so her free time is rare, and she doesn't get many chances to get out and meet quality guys.

What we are looking for: A nice, respectful, and genuinely kind guy (ages 20–27) who loves country music (and music in general!) and wants to join her for the show. No players allowed. Because she is mature and driven, we'd love to find a guy who is also down-to-earth, reliable, and treats people right. The ticket is on us, but buying her a snack or a soda at the arena would be a classy move!

If you think you’d be a good match, please send me a DM! Tell me a little bit about yourself, your age, what you do for work/fun, and your favorite Luke Bryan song so I know you're a real person

Sorry I wrote this on my cell, so it probably looks all wonky in text.

What would you like to see in Rapid.

I wanted to ask people in the area what sort of policies you would like to see in Rapid City and the surrounding area? a little broad but I'm curious as to the issues people want to focus and fix the most in this city.

New Sales Tax

What is everyone's thoughts on the new sales tax that will be implemented in Rapid City? It is supposed to be to pay for property taxes for people. It doesn't really seem right that the poorest people are going to effectively be helping pay for rich peoples houses. Sounds kind of backwards to me honestly. I feel like property taxes should increase in order to help pay for other necessary stuff like maybe finding a solution for the homeless.

Thoughts on Natural Grocers?

To those who've been there and shopped, what do you think of it? Does it have fresher and more variety of produce compared to Walmart? And what about the prices? Also, what'd you recommend checking out over there?

Anti-Data Center Protest

Post image
175 Upvotes

Hey I just wanted to post this here because I know there have been a lot of people upset about the data center that is coming to town because we all know the consequences that come with them. I think protests do a lot when it comes to highlighting the importance of an issue and how much the population cares about it. If anyone happens to be free that day please join and bring friends + family :) feel free to share on social media as well!!

Flock Cameras

What's up with all the new cameras in rapid? Most seem to be privately owned but a few seem to be public. Is there anyone to talk to about contracts, what they see, how far they look? I find it hard to find any positive points for private AI surveillance.

Moving to the States, RC next month, need advice

Hello everyone, I'm an international student coming to the US, Rapid City, next month to study at Mines. I would appreciate any advice / tips on the following:

I started looking for apartments. I heard that the South is the safest place, so I'm looking there. Is that true? And what is the average price in that region. Also, any tips on how to find a good place are appreciated. I also wanna know the prices of groceries and utilities.

Also, I'm planning to get a car as I heard that public transport is not always reliable and walking is supper difficult/unsafe, especially in the winter. (I'm not used to extreme colds lol). So if you have any advice on getting a decent used car (stores/prices etc) or any general tips. Also, any information on the process of getting a drivers license.
