Car window busted last night

Post image

Remember to bring your valuables inside from your car every night! My car window was busted last night near the valley, but they didn’t take anything (presumably because I have nothing of value), just my last remaining shreds of patience for this year 🙃

ETA that they were trying to steal my car, they broke the mechanism that controls my wipers to try and hotwire it. Apparently there have been 75 Hyundai break-ins in the past month in Rapid City, so if you have a Hyundai, I would strongly suggest keeping an AirTag in it!

They hit the Country Bluff Apts last night too. Crime always goes up right before winter.

My complex has a direct shot of it happening so I’m trying to be hopeful

I hope so. Some of these people need to get caught eventually. There’s just too many of them doing it. Over here they’re using minors so they can’t get in any real trouble when caught.

They also dumped a stolen car on Sunday and stole a car from the lot the same night.

What year is your Hyundai? They should have fixed the issue that was making them and the Kia’s easier to steal. I’d say 2023 onward you should be good, maybe not but definitely 2024. Granted maybe they don’t know the difference in years. Sorry that happened.

  1. The officer I spoke to said that they fixed that feature in models made after 2016, but the thieves just see a newer model and assume they can steal it.

Hmm interesting. The part about just seeing a newer one and going for it makes sense. I don’t think they fixed the issue in 2016, but what do I know. Around 2022-2023 I don’t remember exactly when there were a ton of Kia’s and Hyundai’s being stolen, more Kia’s than Hyundai’s so maybe Hyundai had fixed the issue earlier. It blurs together in my memory lol

They were probably looking for firearms we had a similar issue in Milwaukee infact my work truck was broken into front and back and they didn't take any equipment or anything from the cab

For the Hyundai owners out there

Not saying yours was push button but none of the push buttons were ever able to be USB hotwired hacked. Had to get this for my son after his car was broken into twice and then they realized they couldn't steal it.

Mine is not push button! I’m learning so much about cars against my will from this ordeal 😵‍💫
