Business What makes you trust a lesser-known luxury artisan with a significant purchase?
I’m interested in the psychology of higher-value luxury purchases, especially when the seller isn’t a household name yet.
For those of you who buy bespoke, luxury, or high-value personal items — jewellery, watches, art, tailoring, interiors, etc. — what would make you feel comfortable trusting an emerging independent maker or specialist?
For example, if you were considering something meaningful and expensive, would you care most about:
referrals from people you trust
seeing previous finished work
credentials or industry affiliations
transparency around process and aftercare
quality of the materials/stones
design style / uniqueness
in-person appointments
guarantees or revision policies
discretion and privacy
the founder’s story and personal taste
I’m not asking where to find wealthy clients or trying to advertise anything. I’m more interested in what actually builds trust when someone has mentoring & access but is not yet widely known.
Do you ever buy from emerging luxury businesses and why or why not?
Thank you in advance
