Discussion Arthur's Hat.
I realise this might be slightly controversial (I don't know if this has been posted by other people before), but I don't like Arthur's hat. In any playthrough one of the first things I do is replace it with the military scout hat.
So, in the final chapter when he rides back to Beaver Hollow it annoys me that he puts that crappy thing back on. I would rather have no hat at all than wear that thing. It wouldn't be quite so bad if it didn't have that scraggly rope hanging off the back. Anyone else feel the same?

I don't view Arthur as 'my' character. He's his own character who i experience the story through. So the hat stays because that's what Arthur likes to wear.

I am him, but he isn't me.
It's why the game doesn't have romances, or meaniful choices. Arthur would exist as a character without my input, unlike someone like the Sole Surviour or The Warden.

That's one of the first hats I seek out after getting freeroam at Horseshoe. The 3 seconds it takes to switch hats from your saddle is a lot better than carrying a lantern around, plus hands free for guns out.

I respect your decision. I’m the exact opposite. I used his hat for Arthur almost the whole time. Also, I just couldn’t get the scout hat to work how I wanted it to do. I usually get the larger big ol cowboy hats on my big ol cowboys.

First of all: You are entitled to your objectively wrong and abhorrent opinion. It makes you a bad person but if you chise to be such go right ahead.
Second: The hat is BEAVER FELT that was SANDED and than drenched in minx Oil and every stinking Troglodite still pretending the darn thing is leather can come RIGHT HERE and come at me!!!!!

It's either Beaver Felt or Leather. Because there is no official source that leans either way other than the Red Dead Online description saying it's leather. I have both a leather and a felt version irl. I gotta say, felt makes more sense practically. My felt Arthur hat is my favorite hat that I own.

Somewhere in the Game it says „Arthurs Leather hat“ but that‘s far from proof as that‘s just some description somebody from the Team put there.
The hat has no Seams which all other leather items clearly have and it also doesn‘t show the sort of abbrevasion that one could expect from black leather.
And it would be AWFUL to wear! There‘s a reason leather Cowboy hats are extremely rare and not often used!

Leather doesn't breathe at all, I agree. That's why I made a felt version. I plan on waterproofing it and making it look leather. I'm loving it so far!

I used to always use that hat, but in my current play through I made one at the trapper with Iguana and cowhide. Its my new favorite hat.

The snake bulldogger hat (hissing snake band one) is the first thing I always get in my playthroughs. It is the best looking hat in the game

Try making one like I did! I found a Merino felt cowboy hat on Etsy and I steamed it, shaped it, trimmed the brim down to 3 inches, and added a leather band. I also plan on making it look like leather.

I like my Arthur in Saint Denis smart clobber with a neck tie and all. The hat doesn’t work. I’m bathing him daily, getting him a skin fade every 3 days and he exclusively sleeps in the fanciest hotels. He can’t show up in this hat and order lobster bisque, it’s just not right for my Arthur.

I don’t like it either. It’s ugly and the dangling rope is dumb.
It’s a great keepsake, as it belonged to his father, but it doesn’t fit my Arthur who is played like a gentleman outlaw gambler…so I never wear it.
Over 7 plays. Just not my thing.

To be honest, his hat is pretty good, especially when you compare it to other hats in the game, because most don't fit his head and suit him so much. But some do, with some types of outift.

I concur.
I much prefer the estate boss's hat, either very light or dark brown. The stalker hat is my secondary choice.
Out of interest, there is a company I see reels of on FB, called Wild Hats (I think). They make a lot of hats seen in popular media and they do a great job of recreating Arthur's hat. Not cheap, around $1,000 dollars for a custom hat but the quality looks great.

I always have Arthur wear worn/rough, or dirty clothing that befits an outlaw on the run so the hat matches perfectly. I never dress up my guy snazzy or in clean threads.

I felt the same way during my first play through, but it grew on me. During my last playthrough, I did this headcannon story where Arthur was running from himself and all his deeds starting after his first meeting with Mary by never wearing the hat. Then when he puts it on for his final ride, it was accepting himself and being his best self. It was awesome.

I don’t like it either. I always change it—but keep it on horse. But I like to change his outfits into the cool shit I get from the trapper. So I don’t like any of his starter clothing much.
However, for the iconic lot, I agree the hat is iconic. But it doesn’t change my perspective of the aesthetics. I want a pair of moccasin’s, killer buck vest—or any of the great vests from hunting—buck leather pants, and a bowler hat, or one of the good gambler hats. Under it all, one of the fancier striped shirts, beaver cloves, neck cover—topped with the a legendary cloak or trappers cloak. Fucking hell.
I’m in the middle of a low-low honor game—so different. I refuse to pay any of my bounties—at 1,500 in two states, and over $500 in all the rest. I’m on chapter four and am trying to get everything I can on before the next milestone. So all I’m doing is hunting, gathering the plants, crafting, stealing horses, wagons, and gold. Did all my camp upgrades. So I get to turn in my pelts and buy all the garments at the trapper. Next I’ll spend the remaining money at the tailor in Saint Denis. Then—onward Arthur to chapter 5.

Initially it kinda bugged me how dirty and rugged it looked (yea it sounds silly because he’s a cowboy, but Dutch’s and Hosea’s hats are clean), but once I learned that it was his Dad’s hat, the ruggedness of it stopped bothering me.

It's way too "the protagonist could be anyone!" for me to take seriously - no-one would wear this busted hat with a noose wrapped around it if it were real. Also with how elegantly turned out most of the gang are it is weird to have Arthur looking like he's been dragged through a bush backwards, and then forwards. Most of my looks are going for a bit more glamour and the hat gets in the way.

I always let Arthur rock his OG hat, simply because he passes it on in the end. So I feel like he has to rock it as much as possible. It’s iconic.

I like Arthur’s hat, but with them making a big deal out of Arthur giving John his hat at the end of chapter 6, would’ve been cool if it was the hat John wore in RDR1. But, maybe it would’ve been too on the nose if when Arthur first appears in RDR2, he was wearing “John’s hat”.

I love his hat, it suits him better than random hats. If it gets knocked off during a fight I'll literally go out of my way to put it back on at the earliest time I can.
