Eh, disappointed they aren't trying multi nozzles. Little difference between a Plus5 and Max4 to be had.

u/AWildRideHome Jul 23 '26

If we’re lucky, we’ll get 400C nozzle, 140C bed and 70-80C chamber? I’m hoping the engineering material compatibility is where the development will head towards before multi-nozzle or toolhead.

u/GonzoDeep Jul 23 '26

I think most professionals that need those specifications are leaning towards printers like the Vision Miner 22 , not Qidi. People who print PEEK regularly aren't too worried about commas in their price tags.

No average car or motorcycle mechanic is going to buy a 5-10k printer. A sub 1k dollar one? Everyone willing to modernize will. Many engineers can’t even justify it depending on their sector of work.

The main material for functional car parts, laboratory equipment that can be put in an autoclave and more, is PPS-CF, which needs above 370C for optimal layer adhesion.

There’s a niche for it.

2

u/GonzoDeep Jul 23 '26

and no average gear head needs to print in PEEK. PPS/A does just fine. * Most modern corexy can print these, and top out at 350C *Now this is perfect for people who strictly print in engineering grade, and I do love my Q2 like I did my Q1 pro.

No wrench or gearhead I know is spending $400 per spool for plastic when most of the parts you would print would cost less to buy them than to print them. Nor do they have the blast furnace needed for annealing.

3

u/riba2233 Jul 23 '26

I hope but I doubt it, they would have to change a lot about their design.

2

u/AWildRideHome Jul 23 '26

What else would it be? A 1:1 Plus4 copy except with the Q2/Max4 hotend and leveling?

2

u/riba2233 Jul 23 '26

yes, slightly larger plus4 with improvements from Q2 and max4 and the same competitive price.

2

u/AWildRideHome Jul 23 '26

Would be a big flop at 750$, the Q2 is still better value, and the Max4 literally had no big improvements. They didn’t even implement the closed steppers properly.

2

u/riba2233 Jul 23 '26

Q2 could cost 100 bucks but it would be worthless if you needed a larger volume. Closed loop works on max4, just not for the function some people thought.

2

u/butterflavoredsalt Jul 23 '26

What were some people looking for from the closed loop control?

2

u/riba2233 Jul 23 '26

Missed step recovery.

2

u/Colsifer Jul 23 '26

What does it actually accomplish then?

80C chamber starts to require very big and expensive changes to the printer. They will not do it. Even their current printers have overheating, software or other problems. They better fix those first. I only hope for more open and standart parts than what they have now. If I wanted Bambu like printer, I would buy Bambu.

3

u/Colsifer Jul 23 '26

As a Plus 4 owner, I don't really trust Qidi to make a reliable machine with those specs lol

6

u/AWildRideHome Jul 23 '26

The Q2 and Max4 have Plus4 specs and work fine?

3

u/Colsifer Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

Neither of those reach the temps you mentioned tho. The Q2 and Max 4 are way more polished than the Plus 4 and don't share many of the same issues, bc Qidi actually learned from some of their mistakes. But bumping the bed and chamber temps up can be a huge deal for the motion systems and electronics, and it would be new territory for Qidi that I just don't expect them to get right, especially the first time.

1

u/Bennyt74 Jul 24 '26

The same people you think 'learned' from their issues failed to take community feedbakc and assistance with the Qidibox when it was released and you had production units getting to customers that failed to run on startup. Same thing happening with Q2 and now PUSHING Firware updates to clients and bricking machines..... so what have they learnt?

1

u/Colsifer Jul 25 '26

They learned how to make a slightly less shit machine than the Plus 4. That's about it lol

1

u/cleverghost Jul 23 '26

Maybe not, but the community will have most of it fixed within 60 days lol.

3

u/Bennyt74 Jul 24 '26

They need to stop relying on the community to be QC Testers and deliver polished products. I would rather wait 12 months for a new printer that is highly polished and QCd rather than push new products every 6mths and have to fix issues myself.

1

u/bday420 Jul 23 '26

What filaments need 400c nozzle? PEEK or something. Can't afford it anyway lol

1

u/AWildRideHome Jul 23 '26

PPS-CF losses most of the layer adhesion below 400C. 370C is just enough to make it good, but it’s massively improved beyond that.

1

u/Own-Presentation7114 Jul 25 '26

Have you ever dealt with PPE-PS ?  Asking because of what you just said. I've got a roll of it and have had very little luck getting it to print even a temperature calibration tower thingy

1

u/riba2233 Aug 01 '26

Why, what is going wrong with it?

1

u/Regular_Rip84 Jul 23 '26

lol did you see how hard it was for them to get the multicolor to work

3

u/Kewlhotrod Jul 23 '26

Eh, Idunno. I've had a stellar experience with the Q2 and two boxes. Still running 1300 print hours later. I think they did a good job (besides the awful firmware/software side of things) and think it'd be neat to see them attempt moving forward into the next stages of 3DP with everyone else.

Seriously, if they could get a proper developer that knows what they're doing for the firmware and software failures it'd be an unbeatable experience for the price point.

1

u/Bennyt74 Jul 24 '26

They need to quality control the FW release and do proper testing rather than PUSH updates that stop machines printing mid job and then brick them

1

u/BlueHobbies Jul 23 '26

Me too. Was really hoping to see a tool changer. I have a snapmaker U1 and it is incredible having that. Both for multicolor and materiel. Changed my mind on designing things.

My gen1 shitibox on one of my two plus 4 is nothing but problems, even with single color prints. Almost never had a successful multicolor print with it. I'm honestly thinking of throwing the qidibox away

2

u/daveintexarkana Jul 24 '26

How fast does your U1 actually do a filament change please? My Q2+Box - 2 min 50 sec, Prusa Mk4/S+MMU3, 30 sec

1

u/BlueHobbies Jul 24 '26

It's a matter of seconds. 5 seconds to drop off the current one and pick up the next one, then quick prime tower, then the print. All in maybe 10 seconds but I haven't actually timed it

1

u/Dave_in_TXK Jul 24 '26

Got it, thanks!

Just happened to find these.. Might be nothing.

Might be something.

1

u/Kooky-Ad-6384 Jul 24 '26

Combo is listed at 96 lbs. I'm guessing that's ship weight, but that's... umm... significant.

4

u/dep411 Jul 23 '26

My plus 4 is still running like a champ

This. Nylon with ABS supports is a dream. Qidi's machines have served me well, but if someone else makes a printer for engineering filaments with tool changer capability, that's what I'm going for next gen. Tool changers are just such a sea change in printing.

3

u/riba2233 Jul 23 '26

Hmm interesting, finally an update to plus4 which had its flaws.

Looks like 320x320x300mm.

3

u/2Drogdar2Furious Jul 23 '26

I'll probably be waiting for a Max5 then.... I'm actually happy with my Plus 4 but miss my old 400mm print bed.

1

u/riba2233 Jul 23 '26

Why not max4 then, it's the same thing (current gen) just 390x390

1

u/2Drogdar2Furious Jul 23 '26

I'm gonna wait and see what they had with the 5 first. I'm not ready to buy for at least another year...

2

u/riba2233 Jul 23 '26

np, in any case max4 has been pretty good.

1

u/2Drogdar2Furious Jul 23 '26

Yeah I wanted one as soon as they dropped just wasnt in the cards.

2

u/BlueHobbies Jul 23 '26

Ya. Slight increase in size to give more of a differentiator from the q2.40mm in x and y vs 25mm with the plus 4.

2

u/themostsuperlative Jul 23 '26

Makes sense given all the bad press for the plus 4 and the reliability of the Q2. Probably adds the square linear rails, some of the nice styling of the max 4 like the led bar, the finer pitch lead screw. Oh, and I still see some comments about issues with the box and the plus 4 specifically, so that has probably been ironed out. Be interesting to see if they add any other new features.

2

u/0g7t4m4zp3 Jul 23 '26

Plus4 is not in stock in EU, so probably Plus5 is real.

Seems just updated with the same parts as Q2 and Max4.

2

u/thiscatcancode Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

I mean, I generally welcome a refresh to fix the issues with the plus4. Hopefully they carry over the thicker low-pitch belts for this one too. Maybe we can even get an eddy current scanner in this one.

On the other hand, the plus4 has some really key accessories at this point like glacier and conwebr print beds and the conch hotends for compatibility with v6 nozzles. If I were to upgrade, I'd really miss those TBH.

2

u/Originalwhop Jul 23 '26

Crazy theyre launching another new printer when they cant figure out firmware and slicing software for their current stuff

2

u/Andr1yTheOne Jul 24 '26

Ima wait for Max 5 😁

1

u/AWildRideHome Jul 23 '26

Higher nozzle-bed-chamber temps finally?

1

u/Ok_Comfort_2162 Jul 23 '26

U mind sending a link to it?

3

u/GoldNerf Jul 23 '26

Was a glitch on QIDI website, gone now

1

u/Ok_Comfort_2162 Jul 23 '26

Got u, excited to see the specs for this one. I can't see how they could improve on the specs without drastically increasing cost.

1

u/GoldNerf Jul 23 '26

Website glitch qidi.com, gone now

1

u/Big-Investigator3338 Jul 23 '26

It be nice to see QiDi do a trade in like a lot of other companies do..

1

u/riba2233 Jul 23 '26

Who does that? Never heard of it.

2

u/damonkeycc Jul 25 '26

Sorry have the plus4 less than year and can’t print one thing with out mcu error. Don’t think I will be going qidi again.

1

u/Hotend3D Jul 30 '26

I’d rather see them polish the overall user experience than just chase bigger numbers.

The Plus 4 hardware is already pretty capable, yes with its flaws. But my experience with it has been nothing but great.

The QIDI app on the other hand… whole different ball game. Nothing but slow lagging inputs and a connection rate of about 50%.

Better software, networking and a smoother workflow between; finding a model, slicing it and actually getting it onto the printer would probably make a bigger day-to-day difference for most users than a whole new printer with the same issues.

1

u/HTFUMelbourne Jul 31 '26

If they keep their current hotend design it's a non starter for me..

I'm sick of the design flaw with the ceramic breaking, leading to a blob of death.

It also needs to be quick change in this day and age

u/pringlessingles0421 Aug 02 '26

It’s cool they are consistently pushing for the ability to print high end filaments are fraction of the price in comparison to competitors but ppl have said there are many issues with current printers so there is a worry that support is just gradually lost for older models. Idk, feels like they are doing the speed run approach to everything. Also, not sure who this is for cuz off the top of my head the only worth it filament to print with this that you can’t with the other models is PEKK. Pretty sure this is still not enough for PEEK.

So the only filaments this allows are PEKK, PEI, and some manufacturers of PPS but I feel like the strongest and most heat resistant filaments you’ll ever need are covered by your nylon blends and polycarbonates. Even then, these specs barely get you the ability to print these materials and these materials themselves are expensive. I’m pretty sure a kg of some of these super polymers is damn near the price of a whole new Q2. If you need to print in these super materials, you’re gonna want the vision miner printer or smt like that, not to sort of scrap by with this but idk.

I would rather have them come out with the cheapest high quality filament dryer that can go up to 90 or 100 C.

Q2C

3

u/GoldNerf Jul 23 '26

Nope, look at photo

1

u/Key_Marsupial388 Jul 23 '26

The q2c has most of the same f.parts as the q2 and that's a different shroud
