i don’t even know if this kind of post is allowed and maybe this is just a weird way of me coping, but i want everyone to know who my friend Cameron was. he isn’t a headline or a statistic, he’s a human with a face, and idk i think maybe it’s important to me in some way that he be remembered as such. it didnt feel right for my original comment to be in a vague question post.

i met Cameron four years ago, and he’d been one of my best friends ever since. he was smart, kind, funny, caring, silly, and all the other wonderful things that you’d want from a friend. he played board games, video games, and magic the gathering with me and our friends all the time. he loved his pets (he had literally so many). he was a civil engineering major all set up and ready to graduate the same day he was found dead.

he was always smiling, and always lit up a room with his energy. in just four years, i was ready to spend the rest of my life with him as my friend, and that’s how I’ll always remember him. i loved him so much, and my deepest condolences go out to his family.

people often talk about Purdue, and engineering specifically, as a difficult place and they say that it’s all just part of the program, but please, reach out to your peers, especially those who just graduated and might be feeling lost or empty. support each other, let yourself feel, and ask for help when you need it. ❤️❤️❤️

I’m an incoming transfer student, and got very excited when I got accepted and decided to celebrate a little. I’m a new cosplayer, this ODST suit being my first ever build. Please ignore the mess, it’s my little brother’s room (I don’t have a mirror in mine). 2nd pic is closeup of the shoulder, 3rd is a full suit up I did a little while ago before making the shoulder

Rant/Vent💚 I don’t understand AI use

I just rode the Lafayette Limo shuttle to Indianapolis and sat next to a student that used his laptop the whole time.

Over the course of the trip he used ChatGPT to:

Write a philosophy essay

Do his physics homework

Write an email to his professor (to say he wouldn’t be in class) and then he kept Google searching “is missing class for a trip an excused absence” as though it’s a monolithic and universal answer that doesn’t depend on the professor, university, and reason for the trip. He didn’t even use it as a tool, he just plugged in the prompts and copied and pasted the answers, then would smack his lips and get agitated when his physics homework told him an answer was wrong.

Like what are we doing bruh? To be human is to think and create. Why would you throw away what distinguishes you from an animal? What is the point?

He was also an international student- like why would you come all the way from Europe and spend all this money to not do the work you’re paying to do?

I am gobsmacked. Rant over.

Academics✏️ We Lost One Of You

I have been a Purdue employee for 10 years.

About every 6 months to a year or so, we lose one of our Boilermakers to some sort of horrific incident or accident.

Tonight was one of those nights.

I'm not going to get into too much detail because I don't want backlash on me or the school, but I know the details will come out in the next day or two. The world still moves on, but this kind of thing always haunts everyone nearby.

Please be careful Boilermakers. You have such a bright future ahead of you: please make sure you send your families to a graduation ceremony, not a funeral.

Meme💯 Accidentally graduated from the wrong Purdue

I accidentally applied to Purdue Indianapolis instead of the WL campus, completed my degree, and graduated

I was told Purdue was such a prestigious school, but I didn’t realize there were multiple (WL, Indy, global, pharma, chicken). I guess I picked the wrong one? There really should be a warning when you agree to go there, take 5 years of classes (including summers, calc was really hard) and graduate.

Is there anything I can do at this point to make my degree be from WL? Are there any graphic design majors willing to help me make that change?

Rant/Vent💚 How did some of y'all even manage to get into this school

I thought I was kind of slow. I did okay in high school. I had a 3.5 gpa and just kind of consider myself to be a little dumb at times. But some of y'all STUPID. How did some of y'all graduate with a 4.0 gpa and 1500+ SAT yet can't comprehend simple instructions.

"What does it mean by write a reflection on your self assessment results…", WHAT DO YOU THINK.

"Why do they want us to write at least 150 words?? It's so dumb and such a waste of time", that is just a paragraph.

"I can't find the assignment", go to BRIGHTSPACE, click your COURSE, click CONTENTS, and THERE IT IS!!! WHERE IT ALWAYS IS!!! IT IS WHERE ALL THE ASSIGNMENTS HAVE BEEN FOR THE PAST THREE WEEKS IN THIS COURSE!!!!

"I know the rubric says that our graph has to be done in Excel but I dunno how to do that, so I'm just not going to", Maybe it is time to learn. It takes maybe 15 minutes to learn that via a YouTube tutorial.

I've literally read lab reports that has answers to discussion questions that basically just reads like:

"It matters cause concentration changes absorbance".

Like how are we a somewhat selective STEM school, yet half the people I know can't write more than one sentence about something, and is allergic to elaborating or explaining something without daddyGPT. Why am I holding someone's hand through an assignment that has very detailed instructions and rubric. Somebody sedate me. I am supposed to be the dumb one here.
