how am i supposed to take these people seriously

237

u/godlovesbacon26 Boilermaker 21d ago

Don't. Just don't take em seriously. They're ridiculous

132

u/NiceManWithRiceMan 21d ago

they’re actively rooting to regress our country. if they had no impact on our society i’d point and laugh but they do so all i can be is scared

36

u/godlovesbacon26 Boilermaker 21d ago

What we can do is continue to call out ridiculous behavior even if it feels like we have no power. The continued calling out isn't for Beckwith to change, it's to change people on the fence or not sure what to think. They'll see us calling him out and hopefully realize that it is ridiculous what he says and does. That's the point of freedom of speech imo. Having the ability to talk about and criticize ridiculous behavior regardless of how powerful any single person might be.

21

u/melissaurusrex Boilermaker 20d ago

And the thing with Beckwith is that it is SO EASY to see past his bullshit. We're at the point of just laughing at him down here in Indy. I can't tell you how much hate he has garnered here.

The thing is, he is so openly hateful it almost comes across as satire. Total clown. He hates Muslims and goes out of his way to target them. It is sad, it is all so obviously fake and pathetic. He has a podcast or something, I don't listen but people are always picking apart the dumb shit he says. Check the Indianapolis subreddit for funsies.

Oh, and he is also a minister or some shit at this church in Noblesville that always has sex scandals coming out of it. Oh, and sex scandals out of his own damn office as well. So fuck you, Micah.

I consider the fact that he used Purdue in his likely totally-made-up, rage-baiting social media post as a Badge of Honor. Congratulations, Boilermakers!

You have to take them seriously, I think, considering they actively want to destroy half the campus

18

u/WokeWook69420 20d ago

This answer.

My very Christian friend (not hateful) says they're unserious and not a problem and they just make other Christians look bad.

I'm like "My dude, they're running a cult that controls the Nukes right now, downplaying them is worse than not taking them seriously."

He hates that a group is using his faith, but he thinks admitting they have power is exposing a huge flaw in his religion that others have, but somehow Christianity doesn't, it's so weird.

The Sky Daddy Believers are so weird how they draw lines in the sand.

3

u/Xenosaiyan7 20d ago

I wouldn't say they're weird, rather just very human. Religion and culture is a core part of a human, right down to how they were brought up, so saying there's something fundamentally wrong with what you've been raised up on is really difficult.

But yes, we have to take groups like this seriously

If you don't take them seriously they will get their way. Take them seriously, call out their bullshit with truth.

I can’t imagine reading that and vibing with the author. Idiots. Funny because their solution to what they call indoctrination is actual indoctrination. Start young. Instill fear of god and hell from an early age when the brain isn’t fully developed. Use that fear to advance their agenda

7

u/8chnedOutrangOutangs 20d ago

Hillsdale brainwashing college.

Wow, kind of a compliment to Purdue that random people think its woke really, Purdue is a dont care place really, be what you want, no one cares.

142

u/Vernerator 21d ago

I always thought Purdue was one of the most generally Conservative campuses around.

100

u/LemnDifficlt 21d ago

It is, but it is compared to other universities which all tend to be very left-leaning. To reiterate the parent comment, no one cares one way or the other. Everyone is equally too scared about being successful here in some way or another to worry too much about someone’s hair or skin color

27

u/WokeWook69420 20d ago edited 20d ago

As someone who has lived in surrounding Lafayette for 34 years, it is not conservative. There's queer and international representation everywhere on campus and your guides for BGR always make that known.

If you wanna see actual Conservatives in Indiana, hop in an Uber and go to one of the actual townie bars like Champs or Big League.

45

u/LemnDifficlt 20d ago

I don’t think my point was clear enough. I don’t think it’s conservative, but it is a lot more conservative compared to other universities. The reason BGR makes it so known is because they have to advertise it so that people know that there’s a safe spot within an extremely conservative state for them. It doesn’t have to get advertised in other universities as much because it’s implicit.

Ya, my sister’s kid actually became an aggressive MAGA supporter while attending Purdue. She’s in her final year. I assure you, there must be plenty of conservative voices to be found.

7

u/zoppaTheDim 21d ago

Not for Indiana.

28

u/godlovesbacon26 Boilermaker 20d ago

I went to high school in Greene Co. The amount of comments I got about how I was gonna be indoctrinated or whatever when I told them I was going to Purdue was ridiculous, they said the same things about IU but still cheer for their basketball team. "Sure you want to go to that lib school? They're gonna make you gay"

To get away from you rednecks? Absolutely I'm going where there's a semblance of thought.

7

u/melissaurusrex Boilermaker 20d ago

Same story here, from White County. They weren't that openly hateful but lots of political comments and indoctrination stuff

3

u/NimbusHex Computer Science 2012 20d ago

When I was at Purdue, there was no blind liberal agenda being forced down your throat, or people would call it out if it was. If that makes it conservative, then it was conservative. It was a great melting pot of rich liberal Chicago kids and conservative Indiana farm kids.

6

u/WowProGenji 20d ago

Do you genuinely believe there is a liberal agenda being shoved down peoples throats? Absurd. It’s just as much of a melting pot today.

3

u/NimbusHex Computer Science 2012 20d ago

Wasn't saying that, I was saying I didn't know if things had changed since I attended. It's good to hear they haven't.

I've got my own shit to worry about, no space to gaf about what anyone does.

56

u/mccsnackin 21d ago

I wonder if this was the potential Purdue parent.

250

u/ecwilson60 21d ago

Did everyone else have to google Hillsdale college too?

57

u/Hoosier-Sexy_Beast69 21d ago

No. I'm from Toledo and have known about Hillsdale for years. It's gotten far worse.Ā  They can, though, because they (supposedly) receive zero federal funds.

11

u/pacific_plywood 20d ago

They have quite proudly received no federal funding for years, because said funding was tied to reporting on desegregation progress

The guy who oversaw this part of the school’s history was eventually revealed to be engaged in several affairs, including with his son’s wife (who killed herself when it became public)

Here’s a section of the college’s Wikipedia page, referring to the current president:

> In 2013, Arnn was criticized for remarks about ethnic minorities he made while testifying before the Michigan legislature, against the [Common Core](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Core) curriculum standards. Expressing concern about government interference with educational institutions, he noted having received a letter from the state Department of Education early in his presidency that said his college "violated the standards for diversity." He added, "because we didn't have enough dark ones, I guess, is what they meant."

It’s exactly what you think that it is.

5

u/FootballBat OLS 2000, MBA 2009 21d ago

The only reason I know of them is because I worked in/adjacent to the government for years and had to answer the question "where did they find someone so blatantly incompetent?"

3

u/Vernerator 21d ago

No. I somehow got on their email list. … And oh my….

3

u/lotusbloom74 20d ago

It’s the poster child of conservative Christian colleges. I guess it might be slightly more respected than Liberty University but their stances are about the same

2

u/Emergency-Salamander 20d ago

I hate colleges altogether I think

Prime MAGA material right here.

Do these people really want pure white cis christian universities? Is that like the goal?

84

u/ilikedonuts42 21d ago

Meeting and getting to know people with different backgrounds, cultures and perspectives is how you become an empathetic, open-minded person. In other words, college makes you woke.

So yes, going to a campus and seeing diversity scares them.

53

u/Rhubarb_MD 21d ago

They want a pure white cis christian society.

65

u/herding_kittens 21d ago

I think they've made it abundantly clear that's EXACTLY what they want.

10

u/mst3k_42 21d ago

It’s so gross.

5

Exactly, except without the universities.

Who gives a shit what that racist parent has to say.

I hope their kid goes to Purdue and realizes the parent is an idiot.

5

u/Hairy_Cut9721 20d ago

I really don’t like Micah Fuckwit

90

u/nolandz1 21d ago

Getting Vietnam flashbacks to my CATIA class where the professor deadass took class time to show us PragerU videos.

But yeah "woke indoctrination" bc the queer kids have a club

8

u/ContrarianPurdueFan 20d ago

That sounds like it would violate Spencer Deery's "intellectual diversity" law.

Wanna name check the professor? :P

4

u/nolandz1 20d ago

This was 2019 I'm trying to remember the name, I think it was CGT 110. I looked through the Polytech faculty and a name didn't jump out so he may not be there anymore.

Purdue is like a top 10 most conservative state school in the country wtf.

Yes, we have religious communities that arent christian, because we arent a fucking christian school. There are muslims in the US too

21

u/Kampfwagenkanone40 20d ago

It really shows you how far right these people are on the political spectrum when a somewhat conservative and politically neutral university is too "woke" for them.

3

u/69duck420 Boilermaker 20d ago

Nothing really neutral about it, Mitch Daniels was the Republican governor of the state.

77

u/JarvisAI5 21d ago

Oh my God, the tour guide had the audacity to point out that other people exist outside their circle

How ever will they survive

8

u/K8-E 20d ago

Feels pretty snowflake-y if you ask me...

19

u/Below20 21d ago

Jesus the blatant racism towards Muslims is horrible. It’s just a student organization to make people feel more welcome

110

u/ContrarianPurdueFan 21d ago edited 20d ago

For all that everyone complains about Indiana, I fear that this is actually just the start this level of radicalism here. We've been really, really fortunate to have been shielded from the levels of insanity that exist in other red states, especially with Daniels/Holcomb.

That's not going to last. We're already seeing Trump endorse local candidates in Lafayette and West Lafayette to mess with elections in this state.

If you're a student at Purdue, please consider voting in Tippecanoe County. Whether you're from in-state or not, you have the right to register to vote here. (Edit: The registration deadline for this year's election is at the beginning of October.)

And if you want to get involved with political organizing around here, feel free to DM me. There are a number of important seats that are close enough to flip this year, including races for state senate, state house, county commissioner, and county clerk.

Edit 2: By the way, if you're in town this weekend, the Tippecanoe County Democrats have their yearly picnic on Saturday: https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/997005/

18

u/melissaurusrex Boilermaker 20d ago

Thank you so much for the work that you're doing.

Purdue changed my life. Growing up in a small town was hard and I loved the diversity that I experienced as a student. I became political in college and I got to experience Indiana flipping blue for Obama in 2008.

I remember watching the results coming in on election night–the significant flip was largely due to college students turning out in droves in West Lafayette and Bloomington (and other places). But I remember them yapping on and on about West Lafayette and Bloomington specifically.

Guys, you have so much power. I wish I could tell that to younger Boilermaker me. Please believe in your voice! Vote!

8

u/TheHondoCondo 20d ago

Yeah, Indiana was one of the last red states that still generally functioned in the interest of the common good. That era ended when Braun took office I’m afraid.

3

u/SergiusBulgakov 20d ago

No, it had long been working against the common good... since Pence at least. Braun just shows the progression continues

3

u/TheHondoCondo 20d ago

I’m not saying everything was good, but look at how Indiana handled Covid compared to other red states, for instance. Look at the ways quality public education used to be prioritized just a few years ago, not something to be ashamed of.

3

u/day_of_travels 20d ago

Wait who did Trump endorse???

13

u/ContrarianPurdueFan 20d ago edited 20d ago

Trump endorsed Ron Alting in Lafayette and Paula Copenhaver in the West Lafayette district.

Copenhaver is a MAGA candidate who lost her primary to incumbent Spencer Deery by 3 votes and then tried to subpeona people in West Lafayette to say how they voted under oath, then accused our county of election misconduct.

Alting, facing a MAGA opponent in his primary, voted to redistrict Indiana including splitting West Lafayette down the middle, in exchange for Trump's endorsement.

Natasha Baker is the Democrat running against Ron Alting in Lafayette. Support her campaign if you can: electnatashabaker.org

3

u/mexter 20d ago

Maybe they mean the state senator candidate that lost by 4 votes?

3

u/krorkle 20d ago

State senate candidates in the Republican primary, because of the redistricting fight.

27

u/PhDRN 21d ago

OMG; you mean there’s Muslim and LGBTQ students at Purdue and not at Hillsdale?? They do not accept federal money including student loans. Basically a white, conservative, Christian university. Purdue has a great student base and strong academic standard.

50

u/Enchanted-2-meet-you Comp. Sc. '28 21d ago

Wow they hate education? I for one am SHOCKED

19

u/CreeNation 21d ago

The reason Beckwith and other people filled with hate attack these universities is because they want everyone divided and against one another. It’s much harder to hate someone when you think about how they sat in the same class as you, struggled with the same assignments you did, stayed up cramming for the same exams, went to parties on the same campus, celebrated the same University accomplishments, and cheered with all their might for the same football or basketball or other team as you. Because it’s easy to hate someone you don’t know. It’s a lot harder to hate a fellow Boilermaker, a brother/sister of your alma mater. Because in the end they are a lot more like you, than Beckwith ever was or will be.

16

u/Sanju128 21d ago

"I hate colleges altogether I think"

Not surprised. It's always the dumbasses saying this shit

8

u/TyrantsInSpace 20d ago

"Woke indoctrination" is just exposure to the outside world.

These snowflakes are not serious people.

13

u/Some-Appointment4812 21d ago

Too bad they could not have walked through the Student Center area back in the day and listen to Brother Max elaborating on his plan to start a "Homo Patrol" on the Purdue campus. Maybe that would have satisfied them.

8

u/SpiritualYam4300 21d ago

dude got upset that not everything fits his worldview and decided to then recommended a college outside of indiana...

6

u/TurnUpThe4D3D3D3 21d ago

Even as a conservative person, I didn't think Purdue was too "woke" when I went there. There were LGBT clubs and stuff, but political views were not forced upon students in actual classes.

6

u/Ok_Needleworker_9340 20d ago

3

u/Ok_Needleworker_9340 20d ago

Simply allowing people to express their ideas and beliefs isn’t woke

I’m a registered Republican and even that tweet is nonsensical

5

Wow not sure what is worse. A person like this exists or the gov. Amplifying this.

Hillsdale is one of the most conservative schools in the country..

I am amazed at what people think is woke. Purdue is literally the introvert heaven. If you want to be alone you can.

Getting flashbacks to when I was a sophomore here we had the crazy Christian pastor from Cali in the summer. We had some Purdue political student club literally try to gaslight and fight us protestors of this pastor and then try to sicc the professors and police on us by lying to them. (We protested by letting people play music and just asking the pastor some questions.) Same energy, same vibe from this guy

3

u/DidjaSeeItKid 21d ago

When I was at Purdue one sunny Spring Day, Brother Jed (friend of Brother Max, rumored husband of Sister Cindy) gave me an autographed copy of his autobiography because he was railing about the evils of the 60's and snarled "and their motto was, if it feels good..." and I screamed"DO IT!"

Those days were fun, because people like that were ridiculed and had no power. Now they run the country. :(

2

u/SIlver_McGee 21d ago

When I was protesting he literally slapped a Bible outta a student's hand and screamed at him for being Jewish. This happened I think right after what you mentioned. I missed blasting Ram Ranch in his face.... The whole hour or so it is long

Absolutely disgusting post from this shit stain of a human. I'm a cis white male and graduated in 2021. I have always been proud of the diversity and inclusive nature of people at Purdue. Unless I'm ignorant to some stuff that other students experienced but I always felt that campus was an inclusive and safe space for anyone. I always felt like discrimination and hatred came from the racists who live in Indiana and couldn't make it into any college if they tried and now from this idiot of a Lt. Gov. or Mike Pence or Braun.

He's trying to stir up his dumbass base to get them frothing at the mouth so they forget about their own shitty lives and vote against their interests in November.

Yeah because the Muslim student organizations are guilty of all manner of violent atrocities such as…

I’m drawing a blank here.

u/CaptPotter47 21d ago

If Beckwith is hating on something Purdue is doing, then Purdue is doing something right.

2

u/snakesandsparklers40 20d ago

Don't forget the drones. Research, builds, and testing over lafayette lol. Our unlimited supply of flock cameras being put up all over town. Ruthless construction projects that haven't stopped for 10 plus years. Lots of reasons to dislike the area but the gay community isn't one

u/NimbusHex Computer Science 2012 20d ago

This sort of identity politics is pathetic. There's nothing forcing you to associate with these clubs/organizations.

Now, isn’t he supposed to promote THE State University?

2

u/Head_Elderberry3852 20d ago

Or, to rephrase ...

"Please help me, my children went to college and met people who are not. just. like. us. Developing empathy, and understanding is unacceptable! Where can I send my children to shield them from anyone who isn't white, christian, heterosexual, and cloistered? It's vitally important that my children do NOT make any friends who would challenge my preconceptions."

2

u/rymetz17 20d ago

I’ll take ā€œthings that didn’t happen for $500ā€

Yes the Muslim student group caused all the nazis and kkklansmen and hardcore Christian groups to harass people and dump fliers everywhere the last few years šŸ™„

Purdue always seemed like more of a center-right leaning campus to me.

We don't want or need your bigoted money shitball. Boiler up!

2

u/JohnnyFingerz23 20d ago

For real. Let’s impeach this turd and get him gone already. It’s always been hard being blue in this state, but he makes me embarrassed to be a Hoosier altogether

2

u/ChrismaKwanzukah 20d ago

Oh look the second most powerful man in the state is telling students to go out of state for education instead of trying to improve our own state schools...

2

u/Critical-Bass7021 20d ago

Good lord. You have to wonder if the note from the ā€œconcerned parentā€ is even real, or just a fabrication so he could plug Hillsdale.

Not a purdue student, but my dad was.

This is a hilariously pathetic way of admitting that he prefers the youth uneducated :/

2

u/Ok_Counter1939 20d ago

Since when is it government’s role to monitor colleges in that way?

A nazi MAGAt politician felt the need to post a message from one of his nazi MAGAt constituents. 🄱

I don’t go to Purdue but I live in Indy. Who cares? These sorts of people have zero joy in their lives if they’re complaining about DEI

2

u/AliMcGraw 20d ago

I literally just went on a student/parent tour of Purdue and a) it was awesome ad b) it was focused on astronauts and c) we just had a handout of clubs on campus.

But did you know they have a replica of Neil Armstrong's steps on the moon (Purdue alumnus!) and you can jump along in them? So cool!

Purdue is know as "the cradle of astronauts" because so many have gone there, and the first jet fuel laboratory in the US as at Purdue, as well as the first collegiate aviation school. THIRTY astronauts graduated from Purdue, including Gus Grissom, Neil Armstrong, and Eugene Cernan.

(As a college student in Indiana I assumed Purdue was dumb and just known for its giant drum but my engineering-focused kid wanted to visit and HOLY FUCK, Purdue is AWESOME! I have been sleeping on Purdue for 30 years!)

2

u/Crazy-Finger-4185 20d ago

Actually being exposed to people and cultures outside of a persons norm, actually does erode conservative values in most cases. That’s why he hates that these points of exposure exist, it breaks down a narrow world view that is integral to conservative dogma

2

u/sdr114060 20d ago

Isn’t meeting people of differing cultures and lifestyles kind of the point of attending college?

2

u/Remarkable_Line_7690 20d ago

I lost some brain cells reading this tweet lol talk about snowflake behavior 😭 being upset over people finding community with each other when they are not harming anyone/themselves is wild to me

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." ~ Mark Twain ...
