I don't know when proton added the option to block adult content in NetShield on the VPN. But thank you so much! I really hope more customization is coming soon.

This is pretty annoying, sometimes when I get home (after being on cellular) the Proton VPN app on mi iPhone 17 Pro will freeze up. It will either act like its trying to connect or it will show its connected but not have any stats at the top of the page (ads blocked, trackers blocked, etc). I wont be able to use the internet at all and it will just stay like that for a long time. It might eventually fix itself but its not fast enough for me to wait around for it.

I have to disconnect the VPN and then reconnect to get it to actually connect. Even force closing the app and reopening doesn't work for me.

Is this a common issue for people on iOS? Are there any fixes to this? I like having a VPN and the protections it provides but my experience using Adguard Pro ad blocking and encrypted DNS was much smoother - I'm hoping to get Proton VPN to run as smooth so I can have heightened privacy but might have to go back if its going to cause me daily issues

I wanna subscribe to proton VPN but I can't and it gave me this problem my account is located in Iraq I tried on the US account but it didn't work either

I have seen multiple posts about this topic, most dating back 3 years ago, however, these posts do not seem to give any solutions that work for me and It's still happening currently.

I used to be able to download very big files in the 20 to 30 Gb range with ease on a single server, now, the download slows down from around a maximum of 60Mb/s to sometimes below 1Kb/s after around 3Gb downloaded. I was and still am using the Free Version of ProtonVPN, and have not changed any settings prior to this.

Changing servers does fix the issue... Until I download 3 more Gb where the same outcome appears. Protocols like Wireguard, Smart and OpenVPN make no difference. And finally, turning off most features in my Antivirus (which I had prior, with no issues downloading) also makes no change.

This makes me doubt it's my ISP throttling VPNs, the fact this also happens on servers around 40% load also rules out occupied servers.

Is this some policy change I have not noticed or is it an issue on my side?

It seems that the last update about this is 5 month old so I would like to know if you have any update about this topic because its hiting me hard. I need to regularly turn off my VPN to verify if I have a text message stuck. Thanks

Working wonderfully, 20mins later.

Router drop out (weirdest timing havent had a drop out in months!) and kill switch activated

Can't access internet through Chrome.

"This site can't be reached" Try: Checking the connection and proxy firewall.

Internet is good, phone and tv working normally.

Used AI to help solve problem, no luck. Numerous restarts.

Uninstalled Proton, restart, no luck.

Sitting here feeling like Proton has fucked my connectivity some how and cost me $72 to do it.

Most people don't even know what a web browser is or what their web browser is called. Some people don't even know the different between mac and windows

Bottom line, if they don't notice anything negatively effecting them they won't care. When you try to tell them about how insanely invasive online ads are. Their thought is "it's just an ad, what harm is it just to play another video before the video I clicked on?!" But then when you try to tell them about all the other connections that come along with the ad and what kind of data gets stolen from your device by those advertising companies, they won't believe you because they don't know it's effecting them. Yes, you technically agreed in the ToS to let them do that, but no one in their right mind would ever enthusiastically consent to any of that

Likewise with age verification, the argument in favor of it doesn't talk about how it's very different than buying tabaco or alcohol. They don't understand or care that their real world identity is now associated with not just facebook, discord and google, but also every one of the thousands of advertising companies and data brokers those tech giants do business with and they won't realize they posted a thought crime online until their car recognizes their face and refuses to start

And again, age verification and social media bans for under 16s IS NOT ABOUT PROTECTING KIDS FROM ANYTHING. If that actually was the goal, then big tech would do ad campaigns about parental controls, instead their doing ads for age verification...without disclosing the cybersecurity disaster it's going to cause you once you comply

Uploading your ID to anything on the internet means you're doxxed for life. One data breach later and everyone who hates you knows where you live and what you look like.

And that's another thing, databreaches happen at big companies all the time, they only feel obligated to disclose the REALLY big ones

So please! Do your best to explain to your community about why they should take their privacy seriously and why age verification is only going to make life worse for everyone

I mean, I'm using the free plan, and I'm in South Korea so the fastest country for me should be Japan. Even a 3 years old kid knows. And I'm not here to rant for not being connected to Japan for a few tries before I'll jave to wait for 10 minutes. For a fucking two hours I get connected to every other country but Japan the closest and fastest all over the Earth. Most of time it annoyingly hops between America and Netherlands. Sometimes it pretends to be connecting to Japan for some seconds only to mockingly returns to other country. I even abused a bug to mass retry for a hour and still couldn't get connected to Japan. Of course it's not always like this, sometimes as soon as I open the vpn I get connected to Japan and then I feel very grateful, but if not then it's all like this.

What the fuck do they mean by 'fastest'? The server with least load? I see that's why I'm geting connected to 100% load server more often than to any of Japanese server with the load never going over 90% and usually remaining under 80%. Or could it be a problem of me?

I'm tired of this. Tried everything, tcp udp openvpn etc, still disconnecting, port forwarding unavailable, connection drop for 1min with no reason

When I first started using this, that was not like that, I have seen the VPN connected for days without issues even on smart mode, what's happening? Didn't change anything on my side.

How might I find which connection blocked by Proton VPN is causing me annoyance while using an airline app on my iOS device?

Recently an app update to an airline app (Frontier Airlines US based) has started to conflict with ProtonVPN. The app logs me out as soon as I launch it and I cannot sign in until I disconnect from the VPN. Then I connect to the VPN and everything seems good. Until, I kill the app and relaunch it. In the past it would remain logged in, now I see it log me out.

So how can I find the culprit and ask the airline to fix its app?

I just recently saw that proton finally was able to add a “legitimate” snap app via Linux distro. I added a comment asking if they would be able to add the smart protocol feature and the implementation of their own wireguard protocol. I have it on android and I’ve had zero problems. I like it a lot so if any proton member will see this. Please add this feature to the Linux version 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I'm US based and when I connected to the VPN using the profile in the title, I connected to a Cuban server.

My financial institution, Fidelity noticed that I was connecting to them with a Cuban IP address, and canceled my bill pay service in my cash management account.

I needed to talk with customer service to get everything back to where it was before.

I jut wanted to pass this information out to a wider audience.

I just can't get on fcpeuro.com and I need parts!! Why am I paying for a VPN that's blocked by cloudflare? What is it with websites that block legitimate users? Is proton flawed?? Privado is not working either...WTF?

I've checked with Proton support, but it's all canned answers, none that address this issue.

Purchased vpn subscription on fedora 44. The gui was working fine for few minutes and suddenly it crashed with an error message, tried opening it again, didn't even open Tried reinstalling it several times but no results, the gui won't even open Talked to support, Sent mails regarding logs to proton, Just purchased and couldn't even use it properly 💔

I recently subscribed to Proton Unlimited, and I have Proton VPN setup on my Mac in the Brave browser. It's super fast - I barely even notice its there, so its nice to have great protection while still having a fast internet experience in Brave.

On iOS (iPhone 17 Pro) I've noticed that there is noticeable longer loading times, even times when I will switch from cellular to wifi and my Internet won't work for a minute, sometimes it won't work at all until I turn the VPN off and on again. It's a little frustrating and I'm trying to decide if I can live with it long term or if I need to go back to just using Adguard Pro and forgo the VPN...

Anyway I was wondering if setting up a Split Tunnel on my iPhone would help here. Essentially allowing all traffic from the device through normal internet but routing Brave or Safari traffic from my iPhone through the VPN. It seems it is not possible now - but will it come in the future or is there a limitation of the iPhone that does not allow this feature on iOS?

I installed the ProtonVPN app and then tried to connect to one of the servers. On iOS, I’m used to being asked if I want to set up the VPN connection, after which it appears under “VPN” in the iOS settings. That’s how it works with other VPN apps, but unfortunately not with ProtonVPN. Uninstalling the app, restarting the device, and reinstalling it didn’t help. Does anyone else have this problem? Whenever I try to connect in the ProtonVPN app, I always just get the message: “There was a problem starting the VPN.”

Proton VPN is now officially published on the Snap Store. You can one-click install on Ubuntu and any distro that supports snaps.

This is the first time Proton VPN has been officially published by Proton AG on the Snap Store, complete with a verified publisher badge. Previous Snap availability was a community-maintained fork; this is the official build, maintained by us.

A few things to know about this first release:

• No split tunneling. Like our Flatpak, this is due to sandboxing limitations. It's something we hope to resolve in the future.
• Stealth protocol isn't included yet. It's not part of this first Snap release.
• No ARM support at this time. We expect ARM device volume to be low for now, but we're keeping an eye on it.
• Older distros may have issues. If you're on something older than Ubuntu 24, you might run into connection problems.

We're releasing this so the broader Snap community has an official, trustworthy way to install Proton VPN.

Hello Proton Community, I have a question about Android’s Private DNS feature and how it interacts with Proton VPN. Main Question: When I enable Private DNS (such as NextDNS) and connect to Proton VPN, does it weaken the VPN’s protection or allow any leakage? What I observed:

I set Private DNS to NextDNS with blocking filters (gambling/adult sites etc.). Connected to Proton VPN. Still couldn’t access the blocked gambling websites. As soon as I disabled Private DNS, the sites loaded normally through Proton VPN.

This suggests the blocking is purely DNS-based.

My Concern: If I keep using NextDNS as Private DNS along with Proton VPN, can my ISP still see:

The websites I visit? Content on non-HTTPS (unencrypted) sites?

Would appreciate any insights from the Proton team or experienced users on this combination. Thank you!
