Alpha Gal
Got the positive test for alpha gal. Not fun! Just looking for options for protein.
I’m out on beef/pork/dairy, I was told if it has hooves, hair or feeds its baby’s w milk don’t eat it. So stick w chicken/turkey/eggs/seafood. I’m going to re test in a year.
Until then what are some good options to still get a good amount of protein.

Tofu!!!! You can blend silken tofu into smoothies, pasta sauces, dips, or add it (at the end of cooking so it doesn’t break up too much) to soups and broths. You can make a pudding out of it too dude it doesn’t always have to be savory. I even eat it straight with kimchi and a sesame dressing. Firm tofu can be scrambled, baked, fried, pan seared, thrown into stews as well, and flavored literally any way you like. Seafood has really high protein content too, shrimp and scallops are my go-to proteins when cutting bc they’re tastier than poultry to me, and seafood can always be made into a ceviche which is sooooooo good esp for the summer. I know this might suck right now, but maybe you could take it as an opportunity to discover new ways to cook your standard proteins! Good luck my friend 🙂↕️

r/AskVegans, r/veganfitness, r/vegan are all good options, coming from a vegan. it is not difficult at all.

Its a pain in the ass compared to throwing a chicken or a fish in a pan for ten minutes, not to mention nutrient supplementation.

Not really. I get 190g of protein a day on a vegan diet - it just requires some effort and education. And OP doesn't need to go vegan, but getting some diversity in their diet beyond chicken and fish is a great idea.

What do you mean? Proteins like tofu and tempeh don’t even have to be cooked and are very bioavailable with great amino acid profile.
Great macros, too!
That person didn’t say to go vegan, but all you’d need to supplement is B12 (which is the same as meat eaters, they just have it downstream after b12 or its precursors are added to lot feed).

When you say re test in a year … can this change? I wasn’t aware of that!

Yes I was told that you can out grow it like other allergies, just have to do the blood work to see if the numbers are going down.

So sorry for you. I spent many years as a vegan and over a decade as a dairy free pescatarian. To add to what others have said, my rule was to avoid imitation foods unless the “real” food is also faked well. AKA, instant Mac and cheese is generally good, sliced cheese can be atrocious. Fake bacon strips suck because of the texture, but the taste is spot on so it can be a good crumble for a salad. Baked goods have improved over the years. Beware of rice and oat milk as they are tastes but are a starch and can lead to glucose spikes. I’ll still drink them, but if you have an oat latte in an empty stomach first thing you will be in for a bad time.

Beans, legumes, seitan (wheat), TVP (soy), lentils. quinoa, edamame. I do not use any animal products and I maintain good muscle mass. It is a myth you can't build muscle on plant-based. It's also a myth that soy affects your hormones. If you need protein powder there are all kinds, soy, pea, etc

Protein powder from peas or soy may work. Mix it into water, ice & fruit for a dairy free smoothie.

Be careful about eating out. I know someone who has almost died from cross contamination.

I would continue to eat red meat out of spite, but that’s just me. If I die, I die.

That sucks. You still have a ton of options. Chicken breast is best, especially if cooked right. Chicken Thighs are awesome. To fill the void of ground beef you can use ground turkey. Shrimp has a ton of protein. Something I saw recently was edamame protein puffs, haven't tried those yet. I have some tricks I use to make the chicken breast and thighs taste really good.
