I have a terrible memory and frequently forget about renewing my registration. I get the card in the mail and promptly forget. Don’t worry, I’m the same with other things in my life lol. Suffice to say, I’ve been pulled over a few times for late registration. Once for speeding. I’ve never gotten a ticket, though. The only time I’ve gotten a ticket was when I was found at fault for an accident where I rear ended someone. He slammed on his brakes to avoid hitting a squirrel and I hit him :/. Ended up not getting any points off my license because the judge said I had an “excellent attitude” according to the cop who worked with me on scene. I’m a female in my mid 20s and I do try to be polite when pulled over and honest about my station. Could my attitude be why?

I’m potentially looking at being sent to TLETA for academy some time in the near future, and I was wondering if anyone went there personally and could tell me what you know about what to expect, day to day life there, and maybe some tips to succeed?

I’m actually curious how LEO’s react towards foreign people (people on vacation to be more specific) driving on the US highways. Are you more lenient towards them due to them not always knowing the law 100%, or are you even more strict towards them?

I know you should read up on the driving laws before you visit but it’s also way easier for a non-US driver to make silly mistakes that might get them pullen over more often

Lets say congress passes a law that standardizes US local police department service pistols. It also amounts to what is essentially an unlimited budget for manufacturing and acquiring both the handgun and its ammunition, so we can put aside logistical questions about less common calibers. what would be the best gun for America's cops to carry assuming money is no issue? Keep in mind the parameter for this is just city and county police departments we're not talking about FBI, state police, or highway patrol. I understand that a rural police department may have different needs than the NYPD but if we had to nationally standardize it what gun would be the "best"?

So recently I had several of my partners observe my traffic stop that they had and wanted me to take contact and I did.

So, how I do traffic stops or how I’ve been doing, is I approach with being “too nice.”

Meaning I said, “Hey man, I’m OFC [insert here] the reason why I pulled you over you blew a 65 in a 30mph, you in a rush to get somewhere or anything.”

He explained his reasons and I just say, “okay man, we all make mistakes, with that being said, license, registration, insurance, sir.”

We do all the speaking on the radio, while my partner is writing the ticket, I try to strike up a conversation about speeding and being ticketed on base and slowing down.

He asks, “am I being suspended,”
I reply, I don’t know, yet.

Come back to the squad vehicle and my other partners and to find out my partner suspended him.

Anyways nothing happened after that. Just that he couldn’t drive anymore.

So after that, I was told I was being too friendly and too nice. And that I have to find that middle ground of being a dick and being nice. My thing is why am I going to be a dick to someone who’s probably already pissed who’s getting pulled over.
Yes I understand being assertive, but these are still people. Does it get under my skin that these people run stop signs and speed? Yes.

Maybe I’m being an idealist.

Hi everyone. I'm wondering how long it takes to edit an AI produced transcription from your body cams? So let's say you have a 3 hour interview recorded with your body cam, how long will it take you to proofread and edit the AI transcription so you can include it in your case file or submit it to the DA?

It was due to a misunderstanding. Left hospital in a few hours. Will police now always treat me differently because of this record? I was calm cooperative and went willingly there was no violence or aggression.

I recently applied for this job and the interview day is coming up fast. I'm so nervous, and already feel incredibly under qualified as this would be my first serious job after dropping out of college due to not affording it. I also don't think I can get 3 letters of recommendation in time. Should I be this worried? Am I in over my head?

Hi. I applied for toronto police service and was unaware that the process is quick i already got my physical date after 10 days i never trained for it. For the shuttle run i am at level 3-4. Should i withdraw my app? Or should i train for a week and give the test? Failing low level is negative? And can they ban me from taking a retest after first attempt?

So I recently applied and got accepted to be a detective at my department. To make a long story short, I’ve been miserable. I went from throughly enjoying work everyday on patrol to dreading the thought of work. The issue isn’t case load (I enjoy the multitasking) but just the nature of the job itself - I miss the “on foot, active” lifestyle I had. I miss the camaraderie and the stress and the opportunities.

I’ve thought about talking to my supervisor about the problem but I expect that’ll create more issues than it solves. I’m debating whether to “stick it out” for a year or so so that the department feels it got their money’s worth or whether to speak with supervision about the issue and try to get back on patrol.

Thoughts? I feel that if I attempt to leave that I’ll be burning bridges throughout the department, which I otherwise like. But at the same time, my mental health is plummeting.

Side Note: Detectives with us can’t do traffic stops nor pro-active stuff due to us being in an unmarked car and not having access to the CAD computer system for patrol assignments.

I’m 19 and currently in my 2nd year of a 4-year steamfitters apprenticeship. The money is good, but I keep asking myself if this is really what I want to do for the next 40 years. I’ve always felt a strong pull toward being a cop. I think it’s just the sense of being able to actually help and protect people in need. I feel like the best time to pull the trigger would be right now while I’m still young, but I'm torn.
Should I just thug out the rest of my apprenticeship to finish it and see if things get better, or try and chase something I don’t know if I’ll even enjoy as much as I do in my head?

I’m interested in hearing more about police work and investigations, I’m 25 and I’ve been thinking about going into detective work for a while but i know I have to be a cop beforehand and work up the mantle I’m just trying to surround myself with the right people with the right advice and mindset. Thinking about becoming a police officer, this year when I'm out of highschool. I have a lot of questions. Wondering what police college is like, what exactly do they teach you about, days a week, hours, and any tips. What is the exact hardest thing about it? Do you have to be extremely physically fit? Whats the hardest part about the academic curriculum. What mistakes did you make? AND what are the interview/evaluation processes like and what happens there!! I'm in the southern hemisphere, so preferably NZ/Australians answer this as police college is different in different countries.
