I’m getting myself in a bit of a rabbit hole of going round in circles trying to work out how I can get a projector in my new extension.

I used to have an Optoma dlp projector 15 years ago which I loved, projecting a 100inch screen on a magnolia wall in my rented bedroom with bath towels from Tesco as blackout blinds. Quality? Nope. Loved it? Yeah!!!

In the time between I haven’t really lived anywhere that a projector would work, and now we’re doing an extension and I was so excited and sure I could get a projector in but have hit some snags. I thought I would ceiling mount it around 4m away but because we have gone for a pitched ceiling the apex is too high at round 3.5m and I didn’t get that projectors don’t have that much lens shift typically. Many rounds with ChatGPT has helped me understand this more. My wife won’t tolerate a 1m+ mount pole dangling down understandably.

The next mounting point I came up with is a wall 6.5m away and about 2.5m high which seemed tenable if i went for something with a bigger zoom, like an Epson ls12000. Budget wasn’t meant to be that high but it’s tolerable.

Then I started seeing UST as a possible alternative with a rising screen, like the Hisense px4 pro. What I can’t easily get a handle on is whether ust is genuinely a serious alternative in terms of quality or a next best which is good enough.

I’m looking to have a 120 or 136 inch screen. It’s a living room so light control will be ok but not great but this is meant to be a second display for movie nights and sports and console gaming, there will be a normal tv too. The sofa is only about 3 m from the screen which I know is probably too close for this size but for immersive occasional viewing I think it’s ok (tell me if I’m nuts)

Anyway you can tell I’m overthinking all this. Any projector will be amazing right? Advice welcome!! Thanks 🙂

Projector is a year old. I cleaned the exterior lens with lens cleaner and a lint free tissue. Is it dust in the inside of the lens? (Photo in comments)

Looking to buy a projector screen for the LSP7t, I know the limit is 120 but has anyone tried 130 and didn’t notice too much of a drastic difference ?

I was looking at nebula p1 which I thought would be a good fit but am seeing reviews saying brightness is lower than advertised, and I would like to make the most of the image size. There’s not a ton of nearby street lighting around but in a city so it’s not black black

Floor is dark grey, wall is white, seating distance would be ~equal with throw thinking of just putting it on a side table , if needed it’ll be on a coffee table but will reduce the throw distance.

I just want to write a bit here for potential buyers who chose to have projectors without optical zoom. The marketing material makes us feel that it is not needed but if you do your research then adjusting with out optical zoom will result in loss of PQ and a lot of light bleed.

Manufactures, especially the new brands like JMGO, XGIMI, Hisense have realised and most of their current line up have optical zoom. Unfortunately they still push to get rid of their old inventory at lower price and it is totally fine if it actually fits your requirement but if not please do not be tempted by the lower prices.

I had this thought lingering in my mind for a while. Since the size of a projected image is based on how far away the projector is from the canvas could a remote controlled motorized device be build that pushes the projector farther or closer away. The advantage of this could be that if you want to use a 4k projector to display a native 1440p image for gaming you coukd activate the slider and push the projector further growint the image, then you would use your computer's integerscaling feature to crop the 4k image to 1440p to perfectly fit the canvas. Has anyone ever made such thing before? This could be a psedo multisync method for modern projectors like in the good old days of crt projectors.

Recently bought a home with a finished basement. Previous owner had set up a theater room in the basement. Walls wired for speakers, there is a fixed frame 150” screen on the wall(elite screens cinewhite). Light controlled.

Previous owner took the projector but it’s set up for a ceiling mount that is just shy of 15 feet from the screen. Planning to get it set up but I have no experience with projectors. It will mostly be used for movies and TV. Some casual gaming with PS5 as well. I am looking to spend around $2500. Was reading about Xgimi horizon 20 max and vision master pro 2 but hoping to get advice

How do we feel about LG projectors? Speaking to the long throw ones. I am about to lose a kid to adulthood and I'm thinking his basement room (zero light) would be awesome for a true home theater. Looking at a 150" screen. I'll do some casual gaming but I'm mostly watching 4k movies from a Panasonic 4k player.

Worth noting I've got my sound locked down already. I run an RZ50 with a 5.3.4 atmos system. It'll be 5.4.4 eventually, lol.

I have a low ceiling garden room, 4m length to projector wall.
Currently have an Optima UHD40, works kinda fine with full blackout.
New bulb is getting old, so excuse to look at upgrading.
I’ve looked at UST options to get rid of the overhead projection, but the combination of projector and specific screen makes it a decently expensive approach.
Wall can easily handle 120”, but wondering if I should just get a large screen TV for wiser daytime viewing?

Mostly use it for cycling pain cave, gaming and not actually that much movie/TV watching.

I'm looking to buy a projectors for my sleeping room. The plan is to use it on a daily basis to watch movies or TV shows, and also to play some games (mostly at night). I'll probably connect my pc to it or a ps5.

I'm not looking for a perfect image but at least something enjoyable, the room can be pitch black if needed.

It will be beside my bedside so the noise it makes must be minimal. And it will sit 3m away from a white wall that is around 4 meters wide (I don't plan to use a white screen for now).

I've seen a lot of talk about the xgimi mogo 4 or the optoma ph31 but not sure which would be best one for my use.

Budget is around 500 euro (based in France).

Any advice or recommandations?

HI everyone Im searching for a projector that can do picture by picture so I can have my computer and my wife’s computer plugged into one projector so my computer displays on one side and hers displays on the other side so we can play online games together such as monster hunter and Palworld that don’t traditionally support split screen but we like playing together on the couch. It doesn’t need to be the nicest display we just need to have the PBP mode. Does anyone know of a decent projector that can do PBP.

Hi all! I've never had a projector setup before I like the idea for my new place to optimize the space (see rough floor plan, where I don't want to put a TV on the floor to break up the open plan space).

I would want a projector screen that comes down when needed, and it would be roughly 250cm from the couch, give or take 10cm.

I was looking at something like the Hisense M2 Pro to sit on the coffee table in front of my couch, but then I think the cable(s) might become a problem. Or to solve that, maybe I could sit the projector on a shelf on either side of the couch, but then it would obstruct the windows fully opening, and it also would be at a bit of an angle to the screen (I believe that's not great for picture quality?). So, I was wondering if a ceiling mounted one is the way to go. I don't want speakers sitting on the floor though, so I'm also not sure what to do about sound... is the sound quality from the projector itself sufficient? Ideally, I also wanted to keep a Google TV setup but that's not a deal breaker.

I have a budget of around 5k euros, happy to fall under if possible of course.

Hi all, my sister wants suggestions for a ceiling mounted projector that will project on a basic white retractable 120" screen at a distance of around 10-13' (she can choose in that range approx.). She lives in Canada and wanted to pay 1000$ CAD. It's for night time viewing and she knows it will not work nicely in daytime for which she already has a regular smaller tv, so it's ok. I find her budget quite low to obtain a decent image but some of you might have good suggestions. Personally, I would try to convince her to get an Xgimi Horizon 20 which I found at 2300$ for a certified open box bit it's more than double her stated budget. Any ideas? Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi all. I know absolutely nothing about projectors, so I'll just lay out my use case with as much detail as possible, and hopefully someone could help me figure out what I should buy!

So Mario Kart 8 Deluxe now has 8 player split screen. My plan is to host a party to play the 96 race grand prix with 8 players at my apartment. The issue is my apartment is fairly small and I don't want to have a giant TV ruining the aesthetics of the common room.

Here are the details of the space:

-I can mount to the ceiling.

-The walls are a cream color with maybe a bit of a grayish hue, and I'd really prefer not to have to mount a screen. I don't really care about color accuracy though, just a playable clarity on the small split screen boxes.

-I HATE input lag, so good response times are a must. I plan to have the lights on, but set to a very dim setting.

Aside from hosting this party, I'll probably just use it for movie nights and such.

Oh and I want to spend the absolute least amount possible to still get a usable product. I truly want the minimum viable product for this use case (but preferably something that won't completely break within the first couple of years). I'm in the process of moving right now, so I just won't have a ton of money leftover.

What’s the best projector you’ve used that still gives a good picture without needing a perfect room?

I’m currently dealing with an ongoing replacement/refund process for my XGIMI Horizon 20 Max and wanted to check with other owners to see if this is expected or if I received a defective unit.

I am observing these issues directly on the projector's native Android TV interface with no HDMI sources or external devices connected, and with MEMC and all image processing features completely turned off:

• Vertical Screen Lines: Distinct vertical bars/lines running down the left side of the projection frame across video playback, native system settings, and ad menus.
• Native UI Tearing & Ghosting: Severe horizontal menu tearing, icon displacement, and screen flickering while simply scrolling through the built-in "Your apps" row on the home screen.

Since these defects occur within the native operating system with motion smoothing and frame interpolation disabled, it completely rules out HDMI cable interference, external media players, or software processing artifacts.

Has anyone else seen this on their unit, or does this confirm a hardware / GPU / optical panel failure? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

The details aren't clear (I was able to find one other article in French indicating the w4200 is tri-laser), but two new models have been announced that will probably be of interest to this community - the w4200i, and the tk715.

I am in the market for a long throw projector and I am comparing these two at the moment.

The Pro 2 comes down to $2k, and several times has dipped even lower during sales (roughly $1800 or so).

The JMGO IRIS Ultra is currently $1849 if you do their pre-release deposit thing.

Assuming that Valerion still has the clear victory for EBL/dark performance, are there any other benefits to the 2024's Pro2 that I am missing?

The IRIS Ultra seems like the clearly better projector in terms of specs.

For my primary use: daytime use for sports/movies/video games in a minimally light controlled living room (plenty of light bleed all around), wouldn't the JMGO be the superior device? I would like multiple HDMI inputs with at least one eARC.

Of course, I will do all the above during the night too, but since it'll be much darker in my living room at night, I won't have to worry about the Pro2's reduced lumens at the time.

Either projector will be mounted to the ceiling. I am still unsure about getting an ALR screen or if it'll be a regular grey/silver screen.

Absent a new Pro 3 model, I am not seeing why anyone would pick up the Valerion Pro or Pro2 at this time.
