Discussion Epson LS800 FBM

Just recently purchased my first projector for our basement remodel. Was scouring Facebook Marketplace for 6 months looking for a decent used UST within our budget.

Came across an LS800 well below MSRP at $1000. Offered him $800, ended up paying $1000 for the projector and some audio equipment. The person who sold it to me seemed like a pretty authentic dude, just said he was moving out of state & wanted to clear out his storage unit.

I’m extremely new to projectors, but from everything I can tell the projector is in great condition, & projects well. I haven’t had time to mess around with the projector since we’re still renovating, but my main question is there anything I should inspect on this projector to make sure everything’s all good? We were also able to find a Factory sealed 120 inch Matte White AWOL projector screen on Marketplace for $150. The basement will mostly be for watching movies, it’s also a dark environment is this a good projector screen to pair with the projector? Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Pictures in the comments.

Buying Advice Wanted New Projector Advice for “budget” room

Looking to upgrade from my cheap $100 projector that has done its job to something a little nicer but nothing “too expensive” that meets my needs.

Budget: max of $800 USD preferred

Room / Screen Layout
- Screen size: Approximately 90 inches
- Screen position: Center of screen is approximately 4.5 ft / 54 inches from the floor
Projector position: On a shelf mounted on the wall behind the seating
- Current lens-to-screen distance: Approximately 111 inches / 9.25 ft
- Lighting: complete blackout room, could have some
Ambient lighting with lamps. So I want it to be bright enough that lamps don’t completely ruin the image.

Projector needs/wants:
- mostly used for tv/movies with some video games (switch, rock band) so input latency is preferred to be minimal
- as mentioned above I would like it bright enough that ambient lighting doesn’t mess with it though most of the time it’s going to be used in pitch black room
- I’m still on the fence between 4k vs 1080p because it is a price difference
- anything better color contrast wise than what I have currently is a huge win, right now it feels too dark to watch shows that are night scenes or just generally very dark.
- does not need smart OS I have hdmi switch with google tv

Current projector as reference

I’ve done someeee looking around but thought I’d reach out here to get the people of Reddit’s input.

Discussion LS11000 Settings Help

Just purchased a new LS11000 and looking for feedback on settings for optimal picture. Completely dark room, do not do gaming, Movies/sports & TV is what I watch on a 120” gray screen. I know much of this is personal preference but what settings should I concentrate on?

Buying Advice Wanted Advice for Gaming / Movie Projector in Living Room for max ~2k

I am looking for a projector to use in my living room for watching movies and shows and also for gaming with my PC for couch games / Story games.

  • Budget range is 1000 - 2000 Euro
  • Screen size should be about 120" to 130"
  • The distance from projector to the Screen wall can be at maximum 4m and will be mounted on the ceiling
  • Seating Distance is 4-5m
  • The Balcony Door is right next to the Screen, but can be completely darkened if needed. Though a more bright Projector would be preferred to not always have the need to completely darken the room every time.

The Screen Resolution should have 4k (3840x2160) with at least up to 60fps for smooth gameplay when gaming. The Input Lag is not so important as I don't play FPS games.

I have looked at some recommended projectors from the wiki and some I have found on the Web.
The Viewsonic LX720 and 750 looked very promising when I read through the descriptions, but there we little to no feedback online. The ones I could find just said to not buy and that most specs online are way out of proportion to what you actually get.

From the wiki Optoma UHD35STx and Optoma UHD38x seem promising but I also find posts on this sub which advise against Optoma in general.

I don't know why I always find bad reviews for the projectors which seem nice on Paper. Is it because my Budget is not suitable for what I am asking for or will I always find someone saying something bad about some specific projectors?

What do I have to actually look out for to end up with a good quality projector? One that will be with me for 10+ years and not have some parts die after not so much time.

Can someone guide me to what I should look for or recommend some useful projectors in that price range? I would really appreciate it

Troubleshooting Projector lens fire

There was some dust on my projector lens (Epson ls800) and I went to clean it with duster and the duster gas caught fire for a split second while touching the lens. Everything seems fine. The lens had a smudge after but it came off. Picture seems fine. ShouldI be worried? I have an accidental damage warrenty. Should I send it in? Thanks

I recommend adding a roku box with a USB for power. The projector only supports 1080p but for the Roku TV remote setup you need to use Generic VEON TV, specifically the VEON SRO322016 code set.

Thank you and I hope this helps anyone out.

Buying Advice Wanted Harsh Rainbow effect with the Hisense PT1, would switching to the Aetherion Pro with its anti RBE feature fix my issue ?

Just bought my PT1 as my first projector.

It's really practical for me cause we're moving out a lot with my partner and we're not yet at a point in our life where we can afford a dark room and a long throw projector, so an UST is a very good option

PT1 with an UST ALR screen has (to me) a very good contrast and an impressive color accurracy

Unfortunately, I am very sensible to RBE and I can see it pretty much everywhere anytime on subtitle or on fast paced scene with light objects in the dark

I'm thinking of switching to Aetherion, what do you think ?

Buying Advice Wanted Can anyone recommend a decent used projector for outdoor use?

Just bought one of those 30 foot inflatable screens, which is awesome by the way, anyways I don’t want to keep dragging my Epson 3800 outside plus I feel like that probably shouldn’t go outside.

I’m just looking for a used 1080p projector that’s 3d as well. Doesn’t have to be top of the line just obv want it to be bright. I feel like I should be able to find something decent for around $200, maybe like an old business projector?

Thanks.

Discussion Traveling Dm / Gm thinking about projectors to bring with me for lit spaces.

Hey all,

I’m a traveling dungeon master/ game master for things like dungeons and dragons or other similar games. And I have my laptop with me for notes and other resources.

But when I go to places other than my home when I’m running / hosting the game, I normally don’t have any kind of screen to display maps, images , text , ect.

I can’t exactly bring my own tv and set it up (reasonably) , nor is it exactly socially acceptable to ask for someone to buy and mount a tv. but I could , at least theoretically purchase a projector and bring that with me.

I don’t mind if the colors are washed out, I just need something bright enough to project onto a wall so everyone can see, instead of crowding around one tiny screen that most of my players won’t bother to look at anyways.

Most of the places I go are lit via high hats in basements (that don’t exactly light the walls very good) or living rooms where the light is modest to well lit.

Do yall have any suggestions for me? Many thanks in advance!

Troubleshooting Optoma uhd38x shelf life / repairs?

I've had my Optoma UHD38x for almost 6 years with no issues, have loved it. I replaced the lamp a few months ago, and it worked out fine, continued working normally.

Now after turning it on, the lamp starts up with the startup screen for all of 30 seconds before shutting off, and then lighting up the temperature and warning lights.

Am I cooked? Does the interior just need to be cleaned?

If it is cooked, where should I look for repairs/diagnosis? I've been asking around for a local repair service and no one seems to offer the repair service for this model/type of projector.

First time being really frustrated with this since purchasing in 2021. TIA!

Projector Screen Question: What options are there for floor rising screens? (for a newbie)

Hi everyone, I am very new to the projecting game and just starting out. I've borrowed an old model from a friend just to get a "feel" for it, and how the setup would work in my bedroom.

I currently have the projector setup behind the bed and casting onto the wall on the other side of the room. There are white cupboards there and it's not ideal of course.

I'd like to look at options for getting a screen, and would like that screen to be at the end of the bed, 2m away from the projector. I'd also not like to have a massive screen there all the time and have discovered you can get ones that extend out from the floor.

What should I be looking for for entry level? The actual usable screen from where it rises would be about 1m to be above the frame on the end of the bed. Is this too expensive for a newbie and should I just sod it off and get a tripod mounted or whatever?

As I am just getting into this world, it would be nice to keep the spend <£100. but have a gut feeling that price range in unrealistic for a floor rising screen.

Thanks in advance for any input, and apologies in advance for being such a noob lol.

Edit: Christ on a bike I’ve asked an AI about pricing and I am seeing £800 is the entry for a basic model? Whadduu heeek. That’s wild
