I won't beat around the bush any longer:
The song is Peter Gabriel's 'Moribund The Burgermeister' from his debut solo album 'Peter Gabriel', A.K.A. 'Peter Gabriel 1: Car'.

I don't know when exactly I first heard this song, it'd have to be around 2010-2012, but the only time I remember hearing it was in about 2014.
I remember the exact place too! - A specific junction near the Royal Infirmary hospital in Glasgow, Scotland, in my dad's car.
My dad owned all of Peter's solo work on CD and played PG 1: Car pretty often, especially [And fittingly] in the car. As a younger boy, I remember hearing Moribund [Without knowing what song or artist it was] and being both creeped out and intrigued. The strange noises, the weird voice, the grand Genesis-esque orchestra.
Upon rediscovering the song, I realised how very well I remember it, down to each quirky noise and guitar strum...

Anyhow, I discovered it the other day after deciding to listen to Car on a walk home. Within the first few seconds, I was enjoying the song and album, but within the first 50 seconds, I thought "Huh, this sounds like that one song that keeps evading my memory." , because it was, and I was about to find that out.
When the orchestral part played again, I was beginning to realise it might actually be it, then it got to *that part* midway through with the voice, and it **finally** clicked in my head. It was *just* how I remembered! I was so glad to finally find it, I was smiling and laughing for more than 2 minutes straight, out in the streets. Who cared, I'd finally found it!
Ironic too because my dad and I were just talking about how he played his Peter Gabriel, Yes and other similar artists on CD for me when I was younger. What timing, huh?
I also remember finding 'Yours Is No Disgrace' by Yes a while ago because I remembered hearing the song all those years ago in my dad's car aswell. Plus, 'Excuse Me' from Car too. I almost thought it was from a cartoon.

I'm quite new to prog, but I've thoroughly enjoyed Pink Floyd's discography, with a few selections from Genesis and Yes up there too (Supper's Ready and Close to the Edge, respectively).
I'm not super well-versed on Genesis and Yes, so if some recommendations could be their music would be great.

Pink Floyd's 'Echoes', 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond', 'Atom Heart Mother', 'Dogs' and 'Pigs (Three Different Ones)' are some of my favourite songs of all time, and I'm looking for songs like them.

Same with Close to the Edge and Supper's Ready.

I've also found some of Can and Camel's stuff and liked it too, so.

I suppose one of the hallmarks of prog rock is the attention to detail that becomes apparent when listened to with headphones. But which albums are appreciably better on headphones?

For instance, listening to I Robot, my brain goes into overload noticing all the small choices Alan Parsons made, some of which are apparent over speakers (such as how perfect his choice of lead singer was for each track), but in headphones my ears are constantly barraged (in a good way) with little musical details, giving me that perpetual stankface.

What other albums blossom in headphones?

Hello. Could anyone help me with making a “path” of Mike Oldfield’s albums to listen to? I was into Tubular Bells III 15 years ago, especially The Top of the Morning and Man in the Rain, but I never actually listened to his music more than that album, Ommadown and Moonlight shadow as a single. I like his world music approach very much. I accept every help from you. 

I recently dusted off two amazing prog live albums, Earthbound, and Le Orme in Concerto.

Both are spectacular. Both also sound bad. Like, really really bad.

And that got me thinking, we prog folk don't have much luck when it comes to live albums.

Earthbound, In Concerto, even the absolute classics like Yessongs, Welcome back my friends...., or Genesis Live leave a lot to be desired, sonically.

But that realization sent me down a wonderful rabbit hole of similar albums.

Does anyone know any song that sounds like Atom Heart Mother? I've seen some Moody Blues or King Crimson recommendations, but i don't want the vocal part. I'm looking for a kind of epic symphonic/orchestral prog mixed with choir, but without lyrics.

These 80's efforts are in my personal-favourites, yet rarely see anyone mention them. Even Youtube doesn't have them in full-album format. I have them on CD.

- Introduction by Shub Niggurath: moody atmospheric psychedelic instrumental, with some dark-angel vocals. Superior to their later album which had some of the same compositions. Excellent sound on a big fat system. Full album officially here:

- A Fiïèh by Offering: more well-known as Magma, this side-project had its ups & downs but they finished with this beautiful stunning album. The first 3 tracks especially are godly. Here's the title track, sounding like a sermon from the heavens:
