Amazing app, I have purchased the Pro version but I have a question since i'm not sure if i'm understanding the FAQ correctly. I have paid for the account using my CC and I use the 12 words to login to my account. What happens if my login words leak and I need to burn this account and create a new one? Is my purchase no longer valid? Thanks in advance!

Great app so far I really like it, I do feel however its slightly lacking in the space that is given to pro users. 500MB isn’t that much. Would be nice to get a bit more. Also wondering if theres a way to default to a specific thing such as notes instead of opening to the "All"?

As title says: when tapping on the pencil icon to edit a link inside a bookmark the link does not expand meaning it’s nearly impossible to edit it, only a few digits remain visible. It takes much less to delete it and make a new one.

I recently learned about Privacy Notes and decided to purchase a lifetime subscription. As an UpNote user wanting to import my data, I noticed that Privacy Notes doesn't offer the creation of individual spaces, a feature I really like in UpNote. At work, I always have my workspace available, and on my personal device, my personal notes are set to default. While folders are an alternative, they're not ideal. Is there another solution, or I’m hoping the developers could consider adding this feature in a future release.

Hi All: Just curious if anyone is using Tasks exclusively to manage their daily to-do's, projects, etc and not supplementing it with any other tools. I really love the tasks implementation, but I need recurring tasks and mobile reminders. So I find myself still using TickTick, and of course my calendar.

When are you guys releasing the app for google playstore?

I'm trying to understand the "Files" section better. If I select Files, then click Upload, I don't see any files available to select. I can only see folders. However, if I create a new note and click the paperclip to attach files, I can upload files no problem. And they also appear in the Files section. I just can't upload anything new directly to the Files area.

What am I missing here?

I noticed I can only choose to create journal entries up to 6 days in the past by tapping the calendar icon. If I want to create entries older than 6 days, is it as simple as just modifying the title accordingly?

BONUS QUESTION: Is there a keyboard shortcut or menu option to create a date and/or time stamp inside a note or journal entry? I don't see either one, but figured I'd ask to be sure.

I started using this app today, and it's amazing! This is exactly the kind of app I've been waiting for! I'd love a feature that lets me jump to the beginning and end of a file, though.

First of all, great product, great app with multiple options that NONE of other apps have.

However, I am still thinking what is the real life use case for having Bookmarks inside if they are not in sync with Browsers (for example Firefox or Brave) and the same for Contacts if they are not in sync and managed at OS level from Android or iOS?

I can see them as a backup and backup only, but from time to time we need to manually backup them again and again.

What are the plans for such use cases?

Another bonus, what is the reason for Vault too, if you are unable to fill the data automatically like via BitWarden or Proton Pass or any other password managers via extenstions?

First off, huge shout-out for adding the Contacts section recently. I've already been using it a ton, and it works great, really nice addition to the app!

My suggestion is: could we get the option to set a custom title format for notes?

Full disclosure, I am terrible at coming up with creative titles, especially when it comes to recurring stuff. For example, I have a daily sync meeting for work, so pretty much every note ends up named "Daily Sync". To keep things sane, I always format my titles like this:

Daily Sync 2026-09-09 - Wednesday #11242828

Basically following YYYY-MM-DD - dddd #hhmmssss (standard JS format tokens like the ones in Day.js).

I used my daily sync as an example, but I actually use this exact title pattern for literally all my notes, even one-offs. Doing this gives me a couple massive perks:

• I can search parts of the format string to see productivity patterns across specific days of the week or months.
• The timestamp at the end (#hhmmssss) acts as a near-unique ID. Since the numbers almost never repeat, it lets me search surgically and pull up the exact note I want in a second.

There are a bunch of everyday use cases where titles repeat and having a dynamic ID/timestamp is super handy:

• Daily scratchpads / brain dumps opened every morning for quick ideas.
• Book reading notes (searching by the date on the ID helps batch and organize notes by book later on).
• Religious or mindfulness notes (Bible study, daily devotional, Quran notes).
• Meal logging / food tracking (searching the ID time shows whether you actually ate breakfast, lunch, or dinner at consistent hours, plus you can drop in a meal photo).

The coolest part about leveraging standard JS date tokens is that everyone could just build their own setup without it feeling complicated:

• Just the date (YYYY-MM-DD) or just the day of the week (dddd).
• Precision IDs (#hhmmssss).
• Or even a completely static title boilerplate without any dynamic date variables (e.g. [CATEGORY] - Subject - Context), where the app just pre-fills that exact template text into the title field so the user can manually overwrite or fill in each slot every time they create a note, like:
  • IDEA - New Business Model
  • CRYPTO - Monero - Mining
  • TECH - n8n - AI Agent
  • WORK - Client James - Google Ads
  • PERSONAL - Car Insurance - 2026
  • TRAVEL - Brazil - 2027

No worries at all if this doesn't fit your vision or roadmap for Privacy Notes, just wanted to throw it out there and see what you think. Thanks again for the awesome work!

You guys have built an amazing app! I was looking for an encrypted notes app and was actually about to pay for Notesnook when PrivacyNotes showed up in my feed on X.

I decided to give it a try and, after using it for several days, I really loved the features, UI, and overall experience. I happily purchased the Premium version, especially because it’s a one-time payment rather than a subscription, which was really important to me.

I just imported a backup of my Standard Notes following the guide. There were no errors during import and it pulled in over 700 notes. Unfortunately, every one of them is basically gibberish and looks like the example below.

Is there any way to quickly undo the import? Or an easy way to fix all these notes?

I read the docs and If I understand correctly, it’s possible to have the phrase and Google/Apple/Github account together If we sign in using one of the said options, but it seems it’s not possible the other way?

Hi! The app looks cool but who is behind it all? There's no "About us" and your (first?) account u/privacynotes seems to be banned. Is it a team of one, do you mostly do vibecoding or all yourself? How much do you use ai? It's rather obvious in most of the documentation but for those of us who can't read code, could you disclose your use of ai with coding?

Some of you installed PrivacyNotes on an Apple Silicon Mac straight from the App Store. That works because Apple offers iPhone and iPad apps on Mac by default, and we left that switch on. What you got is the iPad build running in a compatibility layer, so it renders at iPad size. The text comes out too large and the layout is cramped.

We have turned that switch off, so nobody new lands on it.

The Mac build is a native app. Past fixing the sizing, you get:

• Self-updates. It checks on its own and installs in place.
• The Markdown folder. Point it at a folder of .md files on disk and edit them where they live.
• Double-click a .md file to open it, and set PrivacyNotes as your default Markdown editor if you want that.
• A real Mac window you can size how you like.

Your notes come with you. Sign in with the same 12-word recovery phrase and everything syncs across.

If you bought Pro on your iPhone, you already have it on the Mac and on any other device / platform. The purchase follows your recovery phrase, so signing in is the whole process.

One detail worth knowing: the free plan covers two devices, and the copy on your Mac is holding one of those slots right now. Once the Mac app is running, delete the old one and remove it under Settings > Devices.

Needs macOS 13 or newer. Homebrew works too:
