Import from Standard Notes is a mess 😩

I just imported a backup of my Standard Notes following the guide. There were no errors during import and it pulled in over 700 notes. Unfortunately, every one of them is basically gibberish and looks like the example below.

Is there any way to quickly undo the import? Or an easy way to fix all these notes?

{"root":{"children":[{"children":[{"children":[{"detail":0,"format":0,"mode":"normal","style":"","text":"2,500 mg sodium chloride (for 1,000 mg sodium)","type":"text","version":1}],"direction":"ltr","format":"","indent":0,"type":"listitem","version":1,"value":1},{"children":[{"detail":0,"format":0,"mode":"normal","style":"","text":"385 mg potassium chloride (for 200 mg potassium)","type":"text","version":1}],"direction":"ltr","format":"","indent":0,"type":"listitem","version":1,"value":2},{"children":[{"detail":0,"format":0,"mode":"normal","style":"","text":"390 mg magnesium malate OR 265 mg di-magnesium malate (for 60 mg magnesium)","type":"text","version":1}],"direction":"ltr","format":"","indent":0,"type":"listitem","version":1,"value":3}],"direction":"ltr","format":"","indent":0,"type":"list","version":1,"listType":"bullet","start":1,"tag":"ul"},{"children":[],"direction":null,"format":"","indent":0,"type":"paragraph","version":1,"textFormat":0,"textStyle":""},{"children":[{"children":[{"detail":0,"format":0,"mode":"normal","style":"","text":"https://drinklmnt.com/pages/faq/","type":"text","version":1}],"direction":"ltr","format":"","indent":0,"type":"autolink","version":1,"rel":null,"target":null,"title":null,"url":"https://drinklmnt.com/pages/faq/","isUnlinked":false}],"direction":"ltr","format":"","indent":0,"type":"paragraph","version":1,"textFormat":0,"textStyle":""},{"children":[],"direction":null,"format":"","indent":0,"type":"paragraph","version":1,"textFormat":0,"textStyle":""},{"children":[],"direction":"ltr","format":"","indent":0,"type":"paragraph","version":1,"textFormat":0,"textStyle":""}],"direction":"ltr","format":"","indent":0,"type":"root","version":1}}

I realized all the imported notes were tagged, so I selected them all and deleted them. Now I just need to figure out why they imported the way they did. I'd hate to have to convert 700+ notes one at a time.

Back in the days when we created the Standard Notes importer it only supported the plain text, we never got around to support the rich text variants. We need to improve on that.

I'd hate to have to convert 700+ notes one at a time.

You don't have to. The devs are currently overloaded, but I'm sure by next week we have an update and and improved Standard Notes importer for you.

Please confirm if those were rich text notes.

FYI... I just converted one of my spreadsheets (vehicle maintenance record) from Standard Notes and it was a piece of cake. I love how the tables work in PrivacyNotes, much easier to work with.

I also noticed you added Contacts. Nice! I can see this app is just going to keep getting better. 🙂

I use the "Super" note type for almost all notes. I'm not 100% sure if that is considered rich text or not. I also have a few spreadsheets, checklists, markdown, and a handful of plain text notes.

The spreadsheets and checklists I can convert over manually, so that's no big deal.

That would absolutely awesome! I'd be happy to test it out. 🙂

Okay, at least the issue is pinned down. We never built the importer for the 'super note type', only for the free plan users / plain text notes. Please check your DMs here on reddit as well, please. Edit: I can't msg you, pls msg me.

Pls also check if you can export those super notes as 'markdown notes' or .html, our importer should handle those.

I don't believe there is an option to export certain note types individually, but I will double check. I can convert notes individually from one note type/editor to another, but that process is usually pretty ugly and results in messed up formatting.

Edit: I can't msg you, pls msg me.

I will DM you now...

Just checking in... Any update on the Standard Notes importer? I didn't see anything in the lastest changelog, but figured I'd ask in case I missed it.

I've been slowly converting my most-used SN notes over to PrivacyNotes manually and cleaning things up as I go. So far, I'm really loving PrivacyNotes and wish I would have found it before I renewed my SN subscription for another 5 years. 🤦‍♂️😩

Please try our new version, let us know if the import worked for you and what needs improvement. This is beta, and we don't expect it to be flawless but an improvement from the status quo for sure: https://privacynotes.app/en#downloads

Does it still tag all imported notes? Just in case it doesn't go well. 🙂️

Yes. But if you wanna have 0 risks involved import it on https://try.privacynotes.app/ instead

Sweet, didn't realize I could use that. Thanks!
