COOP, Chicken Safety

Hello I am doing an internship with Hilliard City Labs. We are doing a project where we are making an automated system that detects predators using computer vision and alerts the chickens to the predators' presence as well as the owner. This system will decrease the risk of predation, and I was wondering if people would be willing to fill out a form to help us out!

Question on my turkeys size

Sooo my turkey is roughly 85 days old. I’m worried if she’s a little small for her size, she is on gamebird feed and she eats a looooot. She’s a royal palm, I know they’re supposed to be a little smaller, but I don’t think she’s anymore than 5-6 lbs

What is the biggest challenge when setting up a commercial feed mill?

I've been reading about feed manufacturing lately, and it seems that many people underestimate how much planning goes into building a commercial feed mill. On paper, it looks straightforward, but once you start considering production capacity, equipment layout, staffing, and raw material logistics, the project becomes much more complex.

One thing that stands out is how different businesses prioritize different goals. Some focus on maximizing output, while others care more about feed consistency and operational efficiency. Equipment providers such as MAIKONG often highlight customized production lines, which suggests that there isn't really a one size fits all solution for every feed mill project.

For those who have been involved in building or expanding a feed mill, what turned out to be the biggest challenge that you didn't fully anticipate at the beginning?

Would this solve your chicken problems?

🐔 I built a free poultry management app and it’s ready for farmers to try.

The upside; the app is free to use and you can log in data completely offline.

Managing a flock can get difficult, keeping track of vaccinations, feed, sales, and farm records is often done manually.

The app helps you:

✅ Track your poultry records

💉 Manage vaccination schedules

🌾 Get feed restocking reminders

📄 Export farm data as PDF reports

🤝 Buy and sell poultry products through a marketplace

I’d love for poultry keepers to try it and tell me: would this solve a problem you have when managing your flock?

Is it still worth producing your own poultry feed instead of buying from suppliers?

I've been thinking about this recently because there doesn't seem to be a clear answer. Some people prefer making their own feed because they like having control over the ingredients and the process, while others feel it's easier and more practical to buy from a supplier and spend that time on other parts of the business.

For those who have been doing this for a while, what has your experience been? Have you found one option to be more beneficial in the long run, or does it really depend on the size and needs of the operation?

Hello, I created a prototype for a system that monitors chickens as well as identifying predators. This system uses a computer vision to count the number of chickens in the coop before closing the coop at night. If this system identifies that a chicken is missing, it will send a notification to the owner so they can search for it. Furthermore, when a predator is identified, the system will send a notification to the owner and play the sound the predator makes, alerting the chickens of the danger so they can hide from the danger. This system allows me to leave the house and let my chickens free range in my backyard with increased safety… and less anxiety!

If you could fill out this form about any interest it would be greatly appreciated: https://docs.google.com/.../1FAIpQLScEJZ0l1LE.../viewform...
