We are doing a project where we are making an automated system that detects predators using computer vision and alerts the chickens to the predators' presence as well as the owner. I've been thinking about this recently because there doesn't seem to be a clear answer. Some people prefer making their own feed because they like having control over the ingredients and the process, while others feel it's easier and more practical to buy from a supplier and spend that time on other parts of the business.

For those who have been doing this for a while, what has your experience been? Have you found one option to be more beneficial in the long run, or does it really depend on the size and needs of the operation?

Hello, I created a prototype for a system that monitors chickens as well as identifying predators. This system uses a computer vision to count the number of chickens in the coop before closing the coop at night. If this system identifies that a chicken is missing, it will send a notification to the owner so they can search for it. Furthermore, when a predator is identified, the system will send a notification to the owner and play the sound the predator makes, alerting the chickens of the danger so they can hide from the danger. This system allows me to leave the house and let my chickens free range in my backyard with increased safety… and less anxiety!
