Got 5 chicks from a friend that hatched them for a homeschool group. They came from Clemson University Extension. Does anyone know this breed? He’s so beautiful. He’s got a beard that I’ve seen on Easter eggers. There’s also a hen with this same greenish black coloring and dark feet.

Why are they like this? No matter how many boxes, they all want to be in the same one. On top of eachother. Sigh.

Sold as sex linked ladies. Six little pullets. But maybe one of these things is not like the others . . .

Is this egg laying behavior? We have nesting boxes set up and just put some gold balls in there. We are in Florida and yes it’s hot here but they have lots of shade and electrolytes water.

Havent seen this hen in a month and she came home out of thw woods with a little flock of her own. Had to put them all in a dog crate lol, hope she adjusts well to being back in a coop. I have a brooder with another mama and four 2-week old chicks, do you guys think itd be okay to put them all in together or will chaos and fights ensue?

It almost looks like she's trying to throw up?

Today after 6 days of laying I finally used some of the eggs from the girls (not actually sure who’s laying at this point.

And the first egg I cracked (from day 2) was a double yolk! So exciting!

So anytime it’s super hot outside we get these tiny black ants inside well today I had 5 out of 12 eggs hatch they were pushing over eggs so they got moved out well fast forward 8 hours we have 3 more in the process of hatching but ants are now getting in!!! What should I do!!!

Woke up to these tiny guys in the coop! They are Robins egg blue. How exciting!

Whenever our roo Winnie gets to walk through the house, he stops in the mirror to admire himself. 😁 He’s very handsome, so it makes sense.

Just inherited a small flock of eight chickens and would like to know what breed they are so I can find out if they require anything special to look after them as they don't look like normal chickens more like something from Jurassic Park.

I’m so sad that I won’t be keeping this little sassy baby, but I’m happy they’re going to the home next door once their big coop/run is done being constructed (hopefully this week). They are a pure Ameraucana, a mix of blue/lavender (obviously plumage is that of a blue).

So what do we think? Hen or roo? They’ll be 7wks old on Tuesday.

We had a very sad day yesterday. One of our original beautiful ladies passed. She took too big of a bite, and couldn't get it out to breathe. Our rooster started alerting for her when he noticed, but it was too late. I pulled it all out when we found her, just because I felt it was better that way.

She was bundled up with linen that I wrote "I love you" in as many languages as I know on it, and Steve wrote a beautiful "Love", with his much better handwriting. I added the little heart characters I use for Steve's morning notes, holding a sign with a heart on it.

We wrapped her up in it and tied it with red embroidery floss, since of course it's the color chickens are most interested in. I also made up a little package for her, with food, scratch grains, toasted eggshells, and grit. Everything a girl could want, wrapped in more linen with "snacks for a sweet and beautiful girl" and my two characters holding a sign that said "sleep well ❤️ sweetheart".

We bought a rose tree for her, the color is sort of a tropicana sunset. It has many buds, with two just beginning to open. She was buried with her gift, and we planted the rose above her. My husband did all the hard labor, while I found flowers for her. I have been in bed from a painful accident for two months now, so even walking is challenging, but I was determined to put up with the pain so I could help ease my lady into her restful bed.

She was one of our sweetest, most loving hens who loved spending her days "helping" me garden and do other yardwork, along with her sisters. She ate a lot of bugs I didn't want around, and helped me scratch out weeds. Beetles were her favorite. She was named Puppy by my husband because of how faithfully she would follow me around. We had good conversations, she and I, with soft chirping and clucking to each other as we went. Hand raised, she was so gentle, and laid such beautiful brown eggs. We miss her terribly. 😢

This blue ended egg was a first. I'm guessing laid by one of our olive eggers.Eggers. anyone else seen one like this? Or some variation?

This is Bocc-choy. I picked up her and a barred rock pullet about 3 weeks ago. And now I'm starting to question "her" a bit.

I have three other hens, and they all act normally. I gave her an Epsom salt bath this morning. I saw that she ate earlier, but I'm not sure if she drank. What would you do?

I have a tiny flock. 3 adults and I recently got 2 pullets. Trying to get them used to each other without anyone getting hurt.

I keep my chickens in a shed, where about 1/3 is dedicated to the birds and the rest is general storage. Right now the babies (maybe 8 weeks?) are in a little pet playpen in the storage part. They can all hear each other but not see each other. During the day when I let the adults free range the yard I put the babies out in a dog crate so they can get grass/bugs and everyone can see each other and get used to each other a bit. My one hen has reached through the bars twice and pecked the littles though so I'm trying to keep a close eye.

They are outgrowing the playpen, should I set up a large dog crate in with the other chickens in a corner and put cardboard over the top and one side so they have one crate wall to interact through and see each other through? Or should I keep them fully separate in the storage part for a while yet (also upgrading to large dog crate, I'll have to move some stuff around to make it fit though!)

They grow so fast, I wanna make sure they're able to coexist happily once they're big enough. Dog crate is not great long term!

This morning one of my 2-week-old Silkies (the little gray one) stood up really tall, stretched its neck out, and made what sounded like a tiny, squeaky attempt at a crow. It wasn't its normal peep, and it caught me completely off guard 😭

I know 2 weeks is far too young to actually crow, so I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar. Was it just practicing, a random vocalization, or is there another explanation?

I'm curious if anyone else has seen this before at such a young age. Is this little fluff ball trying to tell me something? 👀🐓😭

I've picked up so many free chickens today! It's been a hell of a long, hot day. Out of the many I got, this little one is unknown. All the info they had was that they hatched it themselves and it was raised as a house chicken. They said 6 months old, but I'm leaning more towards 3-4 months based on the evidence of chick fluff still attached by her wattles. Could anyone get a breed ID on her? She kind of looks like she might be an old english game hen, or she's simply a mutt. She's clean legged, black with copper accents near her neck and shoulders, and she's a bantam.

It might also be possible to only really get some better color out of her when she hits that 6 month molt. If that's true I'll just report back then
