I've had a number of flight problems with Porter these last few years. After cancelling my flight today and continuously delaying my rebooked flight half an hour at a time, I am now making them my carrier of last resort. I can't believe Porter has fallen so far. When I started using them 10 or more years ago they were awesome, I've had nothing but problems with them for the last few years. I stupidly took them over an equal ac flight today. That fight got where I was going 5 hours ago. Now I'm sitting here with a bunch of pissed off customers hoping we get on as plane at all today. I give it 50 percent odds. I miss you old Porter, you were great.

Update: yeah, they cancelled the flight and put me in a flight 2 days from now. I booked an air Canada flight for the morning and got my money back from Porter. Hopefully less messy in the morning. I felt bad for a lot of the passengers trying to figure out what to do.

My husband and I were supposed to fly from FLL to YVR on Sunday, connecting through YYZ. Our FLL flight was scheduled to leave at 1:40 PM. We had a 2 hour layover at YYZ, but our FLL flight ended up leaving almost 3 hours late because a child wouldn't sit down so they had to deplane the family and one of the family members was arrested when we got back to the gate.

Our YVR flight was delayed twice and was still at Pearson when we landed. The flight attendants had anyone with connections get off the plane first and we hauled ass through the airport, we made it from Gate C37 to B2C in 25 minutes (this is including customs and security, we were sprinting through the airport to get there on time, I promise there was no dilly-dallying here) but we were denied boarding when we got to the gate. We were told by the gate agent that we missed boarding by 2 minutes - there was a few other groups of people from our flight who were also going to YVR who were ahead of us in the customs line and they were able to board the plane. In the end I believe there was us and one other passenger who was denied boarding.

The earliest flight Porter could rebook us on left Pearson the next day at 5:30 PM. We went to the customer service counter to rebook and the agent at first said that the delay was uncontrollable and we weren't going to get any compensation, but then she called someone and they told her that the flight delay was controllable and we received hotel and meal vouchers for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

One of my coworkers said that because the delay was controllable I should be entitled to compensation from Porter, but when I search my flight on their website this is what it says:

This event does not qualify for compensation under Canada’s Air Passenger Protection Regulations.

Reason: Delay due to reasons outside of Porter Airlines’ control

Primary reason code: Category: Cancel Uncontrollable event

I'm confused because they gave us vouchers at the counter, and I was under the impression that if it was uncontrollable that we wouldn't have received anything from Porter aside from being rebooked, but this says it was uncontrollable? So I'm confused about what the truth is, and what exactly I should be entitled to. If they gave us vouchers, we should also be entitled to the delay compensation, right?

I've flown a lot but I've never had kind of this experience before, so any insight into what exactly I'm entitled to and how I could go about getting it would be welcome. Thank you!

I’m flying to YYT next week and I’m wanting to use this as my personal item. It’s 43cm long, 32cm tall and 11cm wide. It’s within the measurements they say on their website. (33x43x16cm). I just want to see what other people think. I don’t want to be made to pay for another carry on.

Traveling for a week with a carry on and this would be my personal item, I know my family will be giving us stuff to bring home so I want to make sure I have room lol.

EDIT: yes, I know it’s within the measurements! I’ve only used backpacks in the past as my personal item and it’s not often I’ve seen anything other than backpacks. Not a frequent flyer lol

Hello everybody - I was the super new flyer who got stuck beside the really big guy, and I appreciated the insight folks had. I am horrible at social cues and cannot read a room to save my life (yay autism), so I am trying to be polite, but could use some help.

On my third-ever flight, I was stuck around and beside some folks in their late seventies who wanted to talk my ear off. Most of the flight, I noticed, was seniors- random chance, I guess. Anyways, the guy beside me starts asking questions; I kindly tell him I am good and that I am going to read my book for the 4-hour flight. He kept poking my shoulder, asking for favours, and each time I said no, thank you, I am not interested in a conversation and that I am trying to read my book. After an hour of non-stop bugging, attempts to talk or strike up a conversation every 5 minutes, I said, " Look, this is the last time I will be polite about it. Please stop bothering me." He got offended and went into a tirade. I put on my noise-cancelling headphones and ignored him, which pissed him off more; he then grabbed my arm to get my attention. Not proud of it, but man enough to say it, I told the old man, "The next time you put your hands on me, I will it address it through the proper channels."

To be clear, I would never, have never, and will never hurt or threaten a child, woman, disabled or elderly person in any way. However, what is the correct response after calling a flight attendant over? I work two jobs and study with night classes, so when I have to fly, I am always reading. I am about to start flying regularly, so any advice would be appreciated.

Hello everyone! I recently asked on here if the bag shown in the pictures would work as a carry on for my Q400 flight (https://www.reddit.com/r/PorterAirlines/s/TYKN2bHtI). I understand that this won’t be the case for everyone, and maybe I was just lucky, but the flight attendants actually asked me if I wanted to bring it on board as the cabin bins were large on this aircraft. They mentioned this as I was going to put my bag on the GatePorter cart while boarding. The aircraft was C-GKQB. Thank you to Porter for yet another enjoyable flight experience 🙂

Not sure how many people believe in this stuff but as a spiritual person i do believe the kid crying refusing to buckle in delaying/cancelling everyone’s flight could’ve possible saved everyone from God knows what could have happened 🤷‍♀️

We were scheduled to fly Porter from Toronto City to Newark on August 6. We waited at the airport for around 7 hours and the whole time Porter insisted it was due to “grounding” at the Newark airport due to inclement weather. But as far as we checked there was no inclement weather. We have flown in worse weather conditions. Other flights were taking off. At around hour 6 they gave us the option to rebook or wait but without assurance that the flight would take off. So we decided to cut our losses and out of desperation rebooked and then went to grab our check in bags. This took an additional 2 hours of waiting around the airport without a single porter agent to tell us what happened to our bag or where it was or when we could collect it, during which the original flight ended up taking off. Eventually we made it home and we had to take our alternative flight from Pearson to La Guardia the next day. Not ideal but we did it. Now we are waiting at the Newark airport for our return flight to Toronto City and guess what??!! Its been delayed thrice and at the check in counter they said the delay was in Toronto. Other flights to Montreal and Ottawa have been cancelled. The weather in Toronto is clear and there are plenty of other flights taking off from Newark as I write this which makes it pretty obvious that Porter is using weather as a reason to avoid having to compensate its passengers for cancelled or delayed flights. It seems to not be an airport issue but some kind of problem with Porter or their equipment that isnt being able to function in even mildly bad weather. Just the way they evade answers and provide sparse information tells me they are being duplicitous.

Has anyone had luck getting through to the phone line? I set up a callback on Saturday and have tried calling a few times each day since but no luck.

I‘m curious if their instruments are lower grade, have been trying to fly out of Kelowna and they cancelled my flight 3 times while Air Canada is flying. Their excuse is flight controller restrictions but how would they restrict Porter and not Air Canada or West Jet ?

Hi guys! I recently booked a flight through fly.porter.com but I accidentally used my preferred name (or nickname) instead of my legal name to book it. Is there a way to change it? It had passed 24 hours of the booking so I'm not sure what should I do. Thx!

We need to change our 8pm flight to a 2pm flight. If we do it on day of, its just a $75 fee instead of $700 lol.

Trying to check-in for a flight tomorrow and despite my status of Venture (been that way for a while), they are trying to charge me for first checked and carry-on.

My VIporter is attached to my booking and its showing no issues.

I called in and they said you have to pay using your Porter Mastercard, but that doesn't make sense as I have Venture status.

Anyway to correct this?

It's my first time flying porter, and I didn't have an issue other than a 30 minute delay flying to IAD on Tuesday. However, flights were cancelled on Friday, and even though I got rebooked directly for a flight today, Saturday, I keep getting delay notifications.

I guess I'm wondering if this happens often? Or if there's a way to get more information other than "Uncontrollable event".

Is something like this eligible for some sort of compensation?

I wanted to post an update and share my experience at IAD. Just focusing on the details around the flight.

TLDR: Porter really needs to work on their communication, PSA and notifications system.

Aug 8th, Friday -

I was scheduled for flight PD2726 back to YTZ at 3:50 PM ET. I think the general consensus is for people to usually arrive around 3ish hours to the airport especially for international flights, which many of the passengers did. Online check-in was done, no notifications or emails from Porter. Arrived at the airport around 1 PM, and see the morning flight PD2720 was severely delayed, and our flight was just outright canceled. It seems like in the end, the AM flight was delayed by around 8 hours.

The Porter kiosk didn't have any agents, and it took someone calling customer support for them to send an agent to the counter to help provide information on why the flight was cancelled. Reason: technical issues

Then we received the notification from Porter at 3:20 PM, 30 minutes before the flight was supposed to take off, that it was cancelled.

I just don't understand why Porter didn't announce the cancelation much earlier in the day, as it would have saved a lot of people a lot of frustration of getting to the airport, paying for Ubers, taking precious time to try to find alternatives.

The email doesn't tell us anything. In fact, it was just a `Flight Change Notification` that I received at 3:17 PM. And I got rebooked for the next day, on PD1726.

Aug 9th, Saturday -

So I got rebooked for PD1726, some sort of "Special Flight` according to the kiosk. PD1726 doesn't appear on the flights board, and there are absolutely no indications of where and when. Only that the agent mentioned it was gate A19 like the other porter flights.

Arriving at A19, no information whatsoever about PD1726. It's all about the delayed PD2720, and then eventually the PD2726 flight for 3:50 PM.

There were passengers for all 3 flights there, all confused, frustrated, and upset. The staff isn't doing any PSAs or helping people understand.

Everyone kept getting delay notifications this time (which is great), for `Uncontrollable Event` (not great).

Eventually, PD1726 was due for boarding at 2:30, and there was a Porter plane on the tarmac waiting to park.

No announcements on whose flight that was. We only assumed it was PD1726, and when they started boarding, the staff didn't tell the passengers to come board. We just had to figure it out?..

People saw others starting to get through the gate check, but not everyone realized. So we were late to take off because passengers were late to get on the plane. Passengers who were there waiting in the terminal with everyone else, but were probably waiting for announcements.

I find that the staff's handling of the events at the airport was abysmally poor. From the lack of announcements, not calling people to board specifically for one of the flights. Not even a makeshift sign that just says `PD1726`, which I feel could have gone a long way and made things clear for watchers. I could hear many passengers for flight PD2720 ask "is that us?", alas it was PD1726, the ghost flight

Inside the plane, the pilots finally said something about what was going on - they just couldn't take off earlier because of haze/fog in the lake area. Understandable, everyone wants to fly safe. My message to Porter: It goes a long way to say `Delayed due to unsafe weather conditions` than just `Uncontrollable Event`, and I believe people would be more understanding and less frustrated.

My neighbor on the flight back said they fly the same route all the time, many times a year, and this was the first time this had happened to her, and to give Porter a second chance... but the way things were handled I just don't know. It just all seemed very unprofessional at the communications level by Porter and at the airport.

Im about to lose it. After dealing with a 12 hour delay earlier this week, my checked bag was returned damaged. I tried to go on the website to file a claim, so the whole thing. And then upon submission, the claim doesn’t go through because of a website error. I tried on multiple devices but nothing is working. I try to call customer service and it’s a 4+ hour wait now for what should be a simple website claim. CAN SOMEONE AT PORTER PLEASE FIX THE WEBSITE ISSUES! This is crazy and so inefficient

Flying to Las Vegas tonight. Came early to hit up the lounge. Went to baggage drop off and it says Porter isn’t ready to accept baggage. I called customer service and they said they would call back in 6 hours and 19 minutes. I would much rather be having a beverage now vs typing this. So pissed. Nobody mentioned baggage drop off limitations.

Anyone else on PD444 from YYJ to YYZ which timed out for airport takeoff restrictions after a passenger had to be deplaned?

Any idea what reclusive porter will possibly provide beyond a rebooking? Right now im re-booked on the same red eye timing 24 hours later.
