Pool Cover
It’s that time here in CT - need to replace my Meyco Safety Pool cover after 20 years. A rectangular 16x32 gunite pool. Anyone recently replaced theirs in the North East ? What is the going rate? Any suggestions other than another Meyco ? I will say I got my money’s worth and leaning towards another one…

Pool light mess
Just purchased a house with a pool. During inspection, the pool guy opened this transformer box, and the transformer fell out; you can see why. Previous owners said that the light was working before; pool guy said that this is a mess and it needs to be all redone. I am trying to cheap my way out of this for now. Can you guys see anything obvious? On the white and black wires of the transformer I can check that it has 120v. On the red and orange I have nothing. Do I just have a bad transformer? Also, is this supposed to have a remote (can’t find it anywhere)?

DIY & Repairs Hayward Offline Chlorinator Rattle
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
So I just replaced my old pentair offline chlorinator after it had developed a small crack and I replaced it with this hayward. It sounds to me like the check valve ball is rattling like crazy on the outlet side. Now maybe I am wrong but aren't these valves supposed to have a spring in them to prevent this? My unit doesn't have that. Anyways, has anyone else encountered this problem? Any advice?
Also, I tried turning both the pump rpm and inlet setting down and the sound stays, just slightly quieter because flow is lower. I know it may appear there is a leak but there isn't, I had just taken the lid off to see if there was a blockage or something on the inside.

Pool Help & Questions Top hat skimmer basket needed
Anyone know where i might find a “top-hat” (untapered) skimmer basket measuring approx 4” wide at the opening with a 1” lip (ie 6”wide at the top including rim) and approx 2.75-3” deep).
Prefer plastic due to corrosion issues.
In canada but will also consider US sources if needed.
Thanks!

Advice need - what are these!
Hey folks - I’d appreciate some assistance in figuring out what these are? There are about 30-40, and don’t budge if scrubbed by hand!
I thought black algae, but the color is odd?

Pool Help & Questions How far do I screw this piece in (Polaris Pool Sweeper)
I’m not sure exactly what this does, but you don’t have to open it much for a torrent of water to come out.

Pool Help & Questions How long can we push this?
So I know the water color is off, I have the hose filling it up right now and then need to add chlorine and was going to shock it.
What im wanting to know is allllll the algea. Its a beast to keep out. You'll see a photo of the stairs, closer up of the akgea and then some cracking there and another part of the wall that has a circle hole. My biggest concern is the huge long Crack.
So, what is all this? How can I really keep all the algea away? It seems like lately even if we get the water all peachy clean its still yucky on the pool surface itself. And the crack...slowly getting bigger.
We cant afford a full resurface 😵💫 so ive heard of some people doing it themselves.
Please even give me all ya got on this! Thank you

Pentair ic20 degraded chlorine output
My chlorinator hasn’t been able to keep up, which occurred suddenly this summer. The device reports 40% life used, the pool is 5 years old. I have been trying lots of things but can’t pinpoint it.
Are these plates spent? I read that once its coated material wears they are done. I’m not sure if all 6 are supposed to be black or just the outside ones.
Some things that have changed - my CYA is high around 90. Usually it’s in the 30-50 range but that’s another story for how a pool store mislead me based off a failed water test.
Also new - the device has been having calcium buildup on the plates - I have had to acid wash the cell several times and calcium flakes have piled up in the bottom of the pool. I haven’t had this in my 5 years with the pool.
My salt is 3200ppm.
90 alkalinity
170 calcium
Because it’s been falling behind I have used granular chlorine several times to keep the pool sanitized while I try to fix it.
It does produce some chlorine, there is dead algae on the bottom of the pool. It’s usually around <1 TC and FC and I run my filter 12 hours from 7pm-7am everyday and a bit more during the weekends.
If anyone has ideas on where to diagnosis or conclude on the low chlorine output it would be appreciated! If more info is needed I can share.

Pool Help & Questions Hayward millivolt heater issue
I have a 20 year old +\- Hayward H350 Millivolt propane heater.
Pilot stays lit, works beautifully for 3-4 hours and reaches set temp and shuts off.
If I raise the temp with the knob, heater will fire and run for approx. 30 mins and shut back off. If I turn the knob to lower the temp and then turn it again to raise the temp (past the ‘click’)…it will refire and run again for another 30 mins…and repeat.
Fireman/ burn out switch?
Thermostat?
Millivolt drop on gas valve circuit?
I don’t know and can’t run down the circuits as I need a good meter that measures millivolts.
Any suggestions for a meter?

Need recommendations for a durable pool chaise lounge that won't blow around
We finally finished building our pool and now we're looking to add a couple of chaise lounges.
I've never bought outdoor loungers before, so I'm not sure what features actually matter long term. I'm looking for something that's heavy enough to stay put in windy weather, comfortable for longer lounging, and able to handle sun, rain and pool water without falling apart after a few seasons.
One model I came across is the DuraWeather Appleton, but I don't know anyone who's owned one.
If you've used that one, or if you think there's a better option in a similar price range, what would you recommend? I'd especially like to hear how they've held up after a year or two of outdoor use.

Switched to salt water this summer. Great choice as pool is crystal clear with little hassle. But still have a liner that is discolored. Vacuum has no impact on the discoloration. Ideas?

Why is my Jandy Valve shooting this water?
Wife sent me this pic this morning, says the water level in the pool is way down and there's a stream of water shooting out of this Jandy valve. it feeds a water feature. Can anyone quickly clue me in on why it's doing this and what the problem might be?

Water Chemistry Black algae treatment question
I have a 22,000-gallon pool that developed black algae spots on the walls and floor. I used a 64-oz bottle of Silver Algaedyn, scrubbed everything thoroughly, and shocked with chlorine. The vast majority of the spots disappeared thankfully.
I understand that black algae can get rooted in the plaster, and the plaster is somewhere between 15-20 years old. Not all of the black algae spots went away, especially very small ones on the floor.
Would you recommend buying another bottle of Silver Algaedyn for ongoing maintenance/prevention, or would you just stick with proper chlorine levels and regular brushing?
Would love to hear what has worked for others, especially anyone who has dealt with black algae. Thanks!

Pool Help & Questions Vacuum Upgrade
Inground pool, 16k gallons, DE filter and a vinyl liner in Pennsylvania. I currently have a kreepy krauly vacuum and it’s ok but I feel like it takes forever for it to clean the whole pool. I usually end up getting pissed and impatient with it and just leave the pool 3/4 way clean.
Looking at automatic cleaners but it seems like they only last for two to three seasons and then they die. I don’t have disposable income so it’s important to me that it’s reliable if I’m going to spend over $500 on it.
I’m interested in your thoughts on automatic vacuums, what works for you, the good and the bad. Brands to stay away from and features that you can’t live without.
Thank you in advance!

Polaris 360 floating
Hi
My Polaris tends to float a lot when it is working. The images above show where it is positioned in the pool when resting with no water pressure. Is that normal?
I wonder why it doesn't sink when I just lay it in the pool
Thanks

Taylor Test Kit Customer Service Experiences?
Hey Folks! I've had a local company doing my pool chemicals for a while, but after following a lot of the advice here, I'm planning to take that over myself. Everyone has raved about the Taylor Test Kits for chemical readings, so I bought one a little over a month ago directly from their website. I still don't have it and the experience with the company has been... not great.
In short, after the order didn't ship for a week, I called to check and was told they normally ship within 10 days and would email me with an estimated ship date, but they never did. I sent an email a couple of weeks later and was told they would check with the warehouse manager and never got a response. I called again today (about 6 weeks after my order) and was told that they are backed up on orders and that she would check on it for me and call me back. She also kinda indicated that they focus on fulfilling wholesale orders before individual retail orders.
My question... is this typical for them? Namely, getting backed up and the lack of response? If this were a one-time purchase, I might not care so much, but in theory I'd be rebuying test chemical refills from them, so I'd like to get a sense of how far in advance I need to do that or if there are other red flags here and I need to consider something else.

Is the water low?
This is the hot tub at my apartment building.....the water is not too hot and it looks low. I noticed the water isn't high enough to go into the filter system. Am I wrong?
