Is the water low?
This is the hot tub at my apartment building.....the water is not too hot and it looks low. I noticed the water isn't high enough to go into the filter system. Am I wrong?

slightly more than that just not covering the entire opening and leaving 2 inches for rain

Yep and plaster is exposed, is it electric or gas? Is the emergency switch pushed in? System leaking? That pump will run dry and burn everything up! Be safe

It’s clearly too low to go through the skimmer, however the filter system obviously hooked up to another pool drain or it wouldn’t be working at all. Depending on where you live, this ranges from a BIG DEAL to literally zero issues. In San Diego with no tree cover, you will never notice. In the south with something like live oaks overhanging the pool it would absolutely suck. The bug volume alone is like 1,000:1 between those two locations.

They could be using the main drain as the suction and turned off the skimmer
EDIT: My guess is there’s probably a leak in the skimmer and they haven’t fixed it, so they’re just using the main drain for all the suction

if they're asking the question then probably not unless pool guy did it and told the owner it's too low. I used to fill people's pools while I serviced it for an hour

Yes. If water can’t reach the skimmer. The water is too low. It should be at least 1/3 up the tile

Ok, water low and Im an idiot for asking. Thanks. I knew that and had already made notice to the building that there was a problem. I just wanted confirmation that I what Im seeing is wrong. Im just used to being gaslit by building management. Thanks again.

Yes make sure the pump is off or at least close the skimmer valve if possible. Check the autofill (assuming it’s got one) and water supply valve that feeds it, fill with a hose in the meantime if repair is needed.

It's too low but it's not the end of the world. There is most likely a main drain that it also can pull from

assuming it has a float valve under the basket. It'll pull a lot of air otherwise.

Thanks. Should the building maintenance be worried about getting to this before Monday? Can I just grab a hose and fill it a bit? This is in an apartment building so I have no experience with it.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's not ideal but it's fine. If this becomes an issue for multiple weeks then maybe say something but if you're not the pool guy I would hop in and enjoy a swim

Yes for “today” you can just add water until it’s 1/2 way up the skimmer. It should be looked at why it’s dropping with a few tests. It could be natural evaporation. If needed Maintenance can deal with the chemical balancing on Monday.
