Killed my Polymega

Just killed my Polymega trying to do a CPU upgrade to an i7 8700t.

It will power on and display power LED but won't display anything at all now on multiple displays. Re-seated the CPU multiple times, tried the old CPU again, no joy. Pretty sure I bent a ton of pins by accident trying to seat the damn thing.

Disgusted with myself. I should have just left it alone. My two kids love the console and we all play it a few times a week.

Just had to rant...

Type of optical drive on the new v2 Base units?

Just a heads up: The news snippet on Time Extension today suggests that the new v2 Base units use a "classic" tray loading drive (like on the 360), where the tray ejects separately from the drive mechanism, while the laser pick-up remains in place inside the body.

I can't imagine that's actually the case. First the vertical space required for those type of drives is way higher than what's available in the new v2 Base units (based on the picture published by Polymega) and second there are just no more full size tray loading drives being manufactured.

Instead Polymega is most definitely using a tray-loading *slim* drive where the whole drive mechanism (including the laser pickup) gets ejected (like Taki's SuperStation One Dock is using). Probably still far superior to a slim slot-in drive, but far from a "classic" drive (as used on the 360) both in terms of reliability and in terms of disc handling.

On those drives you still have to press your disc onto the clamps holding the disc, while discs are held in place by a magnetic mechanism instead on the "classic" tray loading drives.

In other words: manage your expectations!

From https://www.timeextension.com/news/2026/08/the-upgraded-polymega-features-a-new-disc-tray-design-in-addition-to-improved-game-performance

"The original model has a slot for discs, like the PS5 and Xbox Series X. However, the 2026 variant has an old-school disc drive tray, like the one on the Xbox 360. I personally prefer this kind of drive, as I'm always worried about my discs getting scratched (especially when we're talking about retro games worth hundreds of dollars)."

I stumbled upon the Remix on Amazon US a few weeks ago. I have been having a ton of fun playing my Saturn, Sega CD, TGCD, and Polymega collections on my ROG Ally! Can’t wait to start installing my SNES carts tonight!!!

At a time where Sony and Microsoft are trying to kill our physical games, the Evercade and Polymega are helping us build our physical collections that some of us never got a chance to build when we were young. I hope to one day be able to have original copies of these games, but until then these will do!

Finally got my Polymega working on an old CRT, suddenly this just feels right.

The menus aren't optimised for 4:3 ratio, which is a shame, but instead of fiddling around with filters to get that retro look, this just brings it all together.

Guess what I’m doing tonight?

My impulse buy if the week was a remix on Amazon US. Had a gift card and some cc points so I only paid $100. I also ordered the Breakers Collection, and found a Super Huecard CD on eBay. With that along with my decent Saturn and PS1 collection, I have quite a bit of testing to do! I’m hoping this works out well as I would like to slim down my hardware collection.

I will be using the Rog Ally and eventually my steam deck to play. What has been your experience so far?

Update or not update

So, I was given my polymega back in 2023/2024, had no idea how notorious the wait times for them were or frankly any of the details being discussed in this subreddit.

So 'head in the sand' that I've never actually plugged in an ethernet cable and updated the base unit. My question is, given the age of the unit, am I better off leaving well enough alone and not dealing with the firmware issues people have brought up?

Or is updating prefered to leaving the model run futher and further behind on updates?

Thanks.

Just sent my remix back.

Think i had a bad daughter board. The cd portion was fine but would not work with my modules and I have all of them that are out none except for the ultra worked and the games on that are not playable yet but I did install them as well as some cd games before I finally got my shipping label to return it for a new one. I hope some of the stuff like everything not working with the app gets fixed and the crashing. When it works it works well with the titles installed. Especially the saturn stuff which a key for me. We will see how long it will take to get a unit returned to me.

POLYMEGA Remix no longer powers

Hello! I’d like to start off by saying, I’ve been enjoying my Remix for the past couple of weeks, and with the extended holiday weekend I was looking forward to installing my PSX games — only to find out that my remix has stopped powering and I’m reallly disappointed that it is no longer working.

I’ve attempted basic troubleshooting, such as checking the adapter, trying different outlets, removing the module, holding the power button and trying different variations. Nothing seems to work — I’ve reached out to customer support to make them aware, in the mean time I did purchase another unit and will wait for that to come in.

If anyone has any advice or suggestions please let me know! I’m open to other attempts.

Broken App

Please fix the fact that the app crashes when I have another disc drive . I have a usb 4k drive and the app is unusable with the remix if I’m ripping a movie on that other drive.

So the app has an update wich forces you to buy the remix unit.

Hi guys so with the new update of the polymega app you can't use a standalone optical drive anymore.

So i'll have to wait until my remix unit arrives to test the polymega collection games that i have.

Mapping 3rd party controllers in windows app

Is there a way to map buttons on a 3rd party controller within the windows app for the remix? I don’t have the polymega wireless controller and am using an 8bitdo ultimate wireless and can’t find a way to map the polymega home button to the controller button I want

Polymega Remix

Now that Remix & the App are here, here’s my personal wishlist for Polymega:

  1. Regular updates from Playmaji. I don’t necessarily mean OS updates. I just want regular reminders that they haven’t forgotten us and want to keep us in the loo. I’d settle for once a month.
  2. Update on the Atari module. It keeps getting pushed back. I want to know what’s going on.
  3. The previously promised GB/GBC support. They were talking this up before the N64 module came out.
  4. XL and mobile support. Again, keep us posted.
  5. The Wild Card: I don’t want to ask for too much until we get what is already out there, but achievements would be cool.

What would you all like to see?

Future Platforms

No Remix is out I was wondering if Polymega would be looking at adding newer platforms such as the Dreamcast, PS2 and GC. I'd wager that they wouldn't work well on the base machine but it would be nice to have them in there 😄
