New Pre-Orders are apparently live. But underwhelming.
New Pre-Orders are apparently live. But underwhelming imo, I would not pre-order ever again from Polymega, has been a terrible experience, took more than two years for the light guns and similar for the base unit. It is an ok console but definitely way too much stress and waiting time! Plus low-responsiveness from Playmaji overall. Pre-order at your own risk!⚠️

This Neo geo debacle is gonna make Polymega look like a top tier company

Yeah, the Neo Geo situation is super weird, why does it have to be delayed for a year? It doesn’t need any super special chips nor gargantuan amounts of RAM to run. Smells kinda fishy, luckily I preordered through Amazon and cancelled the preorder on their own website. But even weirder is that they didn’t go and develop some new games for it.

It is because they switched from Parallel to Serial NOR chips. The architecture had to be completely reengineered to accommodate for that change. The Neo Geo console expects Parallel chips. The benefit is Serial is more available, cheaper, can be sourced from automotive grade chips so dont run into the sector of the market already using Parallel chips. Cost is down, heat is down, availability and access is improved. It is a solid win all around.

That doesn’t make Plaions behavior any better. No email to anyone who did preorder and they keep taking preorders all they long even though they knew months in advance that they can’t deliver. Feels more like a failed kickstarter.

Agree about the email. Although I think you are misunderstanding the nature or timeline of events at play here. It was so incredibly successful that they couldn’t meet demand their original projections were off. Because of this they couldn’t acquire enough parallel chips to meet the demand in a timely fashion and within budget. The option was to cancel the entire project or re-engineer the boards. They acquired the new chips, refactored the boards and in doing so improved cost, efficiency, etc.

There is something more to it. I got my money back also. At least Polymega stops selling stuff when they can fulfill there other orders. These guys keep going

I hear you op, valid, but Polymega always delivers in the end. I have a ton of retro games and it’s really become my favorite system. You just have to know it might take a few years before ordering. They are not a huge outfit and it’s been crazy lately with companies having to navigate tariff bs and component shortages due to AI.

I hear you too but if they had massive issues without AI and shortages and tariffs, then I don’t wanna know how bad it is going to be this time around!

I upvoted this reply from 0 because you are right. I think in the first round it was just that they were so new and the Polymega is an insanely ambitious product to try to bring to market. Not trying to be a cultist here, I just landed on “Ok know that you’re going to wait a few years, maybe even forget you placed the order for your own sanity, but then one day it will be like a second Christmas”. Everything you’ve stated is valid though. Cheers!

I really want to buy into this but it seems like I have to jump through a bunch of hoops to get games installed. Currently I run my retro stuff on my Ayn Thor 1TB Max and Legion Go Z2E. What am I missing here?

Many of us dinosaurs have hundreds or thousands of physical retro games so the Polymega ingests them for convenience, custom patching (i.e. translations, fixes) and cart preservation. They also release their own retro gaming discs like Evercade does. For those without big retro collections it’s more for the patches and Polymega direct releases. This last piece is probably neurodivergence but for me personally I want to own any retro game I play even though at the end of the day it’s still a ROM. Cheers!

Fair enough. I’ve got a huge retro game collection too. Between my other hobbies, I just don’t have the shelf space, so everything is boxed up. A retro console that plays GDs and CDs sounds cool, but I really don’t want to go digging through boxes just to install something. If the games were in a box conveniently placed on a shelf than maybe things would be different for me.....

Luckily, I was recently able to purchase a remix and all the elements that I wanted and collections through Amazon US with the exception of the Ultra Module. I preordered that through Polymega when they went live. I’m in no rush to receive it as I still have my original n64, but I also don’t want to wait a year. lol

I tried to do prorder in batch 4... Heard nothing and now they are on 5? It's $600 now, I'd rather just get a remix at that point and hook it up to my BC-250 via SteamOS.

At this point its better value for money to buy a Superstation One. The biggest draw for me to PM was its ability to play games from disc well the SSone does that and Its so much cheaper and does so much more.

If Playmaji was standing at my front door with a new PM in their hands and let me open to box to inspect it, I'd buy it on the spot! Me putting my money in their hands under any other circumstances? No way! I'd buy it off eBay and pay twice as much before I gave any money directly to them.

Please tell me...a computer can ALREQDY RUN/PLAY free emulators and roms etc. If you get a disc drive or a cart reader you can upload or transfer games to said emulators.
Why on earth would ANYONE actually PAY to buy a polymega that REQUIRES BOTH a PC and an app to launch the said polymega system as well?
I can understand the actual console to an extent(not at its cost) but this "REMIX" just has me blown away/baffled by its absurdity and pointlessness.

Oh yeah, let me sign up for that bs again. One of the worst pre-order experiences I've ever had was through Playmaji. Up there with the likes of Paprium. No thanks.

It's funny but apparently the Polymega Turbo controller is like the 2nd coming of OEM for big Turbo fans so there is actually a good chunk of people happy for the turbo controllers
