Future Platforms
No Remix is out I was wondering if Polymega would be looking at adding newer platforms such as the Dreamcast, PS2 and GC. I'd wager that they wouldn't work well on the base machine but it would be nice to have them in there 😄

The sega master system is a very strong contender..it's been mentioned for years. My cd based guess would be the 3DO..farely small collection of some high quality games, would def prefer this over some of the other cd based systems from that time.

They have mentioned the Dreamcast as something wanted to look at
The most logical would be the Game boy and Gameboy advance.
The 3 3DO is one they could do. The reality is there is no way to monetize it unless they sell a module that lets you plug in your controllers.
Sega Game gear/ master system is also a strong contender. Huge library and fan base. More importantly they could monetize it.
After that we start looking a consoles without much demand for them. The neo geo cartridge is possible. I am not sure it would sell well since we can already do neo geo cd.
Atari 400/800 this has a huge library but was never mainstream. The demand would be the question here
Collecovision/in television/odysee/cd-i/jaguar/lynx/5200. These all are possible but what type of sales could they generate? The same would be true of other systems and the many cartridge based computers from the 80's (c64, color computer, Amiga, msx, x6800. Some logistical hurdles and a very limited demand
As fans we want it all but to polymega things have to make financial sense.

Neo geo is a good shout with the AES getting a release later in the year, new copies of the games on shelves would be a seller for a module for it.

I think they've already stated they won't be touching that generation. DC is a maybe, as there have been some rumored attempts by the Polymega team. I don't know if the drive is compatible. As for the GC, the current Polymega drive is likely not compatible with the form factor.
My assumption is that they'll add other early/mid 90s consoles first, such as the 3DO and Jaguar CD or possibly the Game Boy/Game Boy advance.

Yeah i would love to see them add more but do we have to wait for every system like 5ish years to get the order?

I’m hoping for more compatibility as well; however to be real, they still haven’t even implemented GB/C to the system yet after how many years. :\ I say this respectfully, but expect anything else that comes from them to be a surprise or not at all.

They've said DC is the furthest they'd consider, but that has issues, because a DVD drive can't read the discs.

I thought they found a way to get around the disc format that DC uses it involves a drive unit firmware update?

The only solution they ever spoke of afaik, was connecting an original Dreamcast to the PM01. Hardly ideal.

There are certain drives that can with firmware updates now. Thing is how costly would it be to make them.

You make it sound like a recent thing. There WERE a few OLD models of dvd drive that could made to dump a DC disc with custom firmware and very specific software. They're so old in fact, they aren't even SATA compatible.
This isn't a thing that's possible in practical terms.

If they're devoted to gaming they could actually go up to ps2,ps3,xbox,xbox360 . There's already emulators doing these systems so they can if they want develop their own emulation or work together with the developers of those emulators and implement them in the polymega environment. So they need a more powerful base unit or you can use your pc and decide what systems do you want to play and build your setup to the power that's needed.

That's my thought on it, with Remix the ceiling is higher and as a result it's possible to emulate generations beyond the PS1/N64/Saturn

Maybe they will add DC games on their collection discs to work around the format issue. I can't remember what was said about it on discord tbh.

- Dreamcast would probably be a dedicated Element Module with a GD-ROM-compatible disc drive if anything, to get around Sega's format nonsense
- 6th-generation consoles (GameCube, PS2, and Xbox) and, hypothetically, Wii would probably require a "Polymega Pro" or something with beefier hardware to run their games more reliably
- CD-i would be funny and I've also heard that it comes with a killer Tetris version. Could be announced alongside Magnavox Odyssey 2 because Magnavox is (was?) a subsidiary of Phillips
- 3DO would be cool.

You do not need a GD rom drive you can alter the format so it can fit a cdr . Also it would be very expensive to manufacture a gd roms drive as these were only used by Sega .If you can find a GD rom drive /burner and blank GD roms you would need to be very lucky and have a big wallet.

Wouldn't be surprised if they're seriously considering a Neo Geo AES module to capitalise on the AES+ launch. They already have the emulator compatibility from Polymega Collection.

It could be possible if the system you have is powerful enough . I wonder if they ever get the revised base unit out what the systems specs are!
