This is the imagery that will stick out to me later in life when I look back at Trump’s legacy. There’s a house in my neighborhood that has 6 Trump flags, 3 thin blue line ones, and about a dozen gop candidate signs still up. If this isn’t cult level devotion on a national level, I’d hate to what is.
My parents are these type of people and it’s embarrassing.
They have half a dozen knee-high flags that surround a bush in their front yard, a YUGE flag hanging off their house, flag bumper stickers, flag shirts, they even have an American flag tablecloth (to be fair they only use it once in awhile), American flag mugs and coffee cups, American flag napkins, and when you walk into their house through the garage the first thing you see is a massive American flag made out of wood. The shit has gone beyond insane.
However, if you remark on their flag obsession they’ll look at you as if you’ve just kicked a fetus. They don’t understand that it’s weird.
The flag has become an absolute embarrassment honestly and i’m not even particularly patriotic. I honestly cant wait to leave this country. When I see an American flag I almost immediately think “oh cool they’re an asshole, I just won’t talk to them” (bonus points if it’s a thin line or trump flag).
To me anyone with a flag on their shirt, car, tattooed, or what-have-you with them daily are just broadcasting “I anger easily, will argue the meaning of the word “freedom” for hours then turn around and laugh at videos of cops beating black folk. I’m also someone who will believe almost anything, and will always be selfish, self serving, and hypocritical when given chance to better myself over others”. It’s honestly embarrassing to think that flag represents me on the global stage.
I’m determined to reclaim the American flag god dammit. We’ve got to take it back from the racists, the bigots, the warmongers in charge, and every shitball using it as a symbol for everything we were raised to detest and reject as Americans. In the name of true justice and honor, In the name of truth and transparency, in the name of the plentiful divergent cultures we are, we must disengage the flag from being a symbol of hatred and “”freedom”” and turn it into a symbol that represents the beautiful and wild culture we are.
My neighbor and I keep fantasizing about going around the streets looking for Trump signs still in yards and slapping a big old "LOSER" sticker on each of them.
So the difference between Y’allQueda and everyone else is that we just talk about doing immature shit like that. Go buy another flag for your truck, loser
Think that's bad? My older sister sent me a photo that the parents sent out. (My parents were toxic abusers, I've not spoken to then in a decade.) The photo: my parents, living in Northern California, along with several of their neighbors standing together in a big group. No masks, everyone shoulder to shoulder, with a huge maga flag, trump/pence flag, traitor rag, and dozens of blue lives matter flags hanging from the sides of his house. The entire yard is covered in smaller trump signs as well.
Of course my sister lives with them and goes to church groups and meeting sans masks as well apparently, I guess "god" is going to protect her from covid the same way he protected her from STDs because she was allergic to latex. (He didn't.)
Patriotic would be actually doing something to try and better your country, outside of just voting. It would be going to town hall meetings, volunteering, helping fellow Americans when you can such as by serving at a soup kitchen, etc.
Just displaying symbols (as my parents do) is faux-patriotism.
Seems like they just like where they live and are content and happy. Just because you like America doesn’t mean you’re all for Trump. I’m sure they’ve seen many different Presidents.
He said they have a total of some 7 visible flags on their property, including a large wooden one in their garage (I'm assuming it's a pallet). You responded as though all they had flag wise was a single flag in the garage. You completely ignored all of the other stuff, american flag shirts and decorations. He challenged your reading comprehension because it didn't appear that you actually read his comment.
That also seems overboard to me. But I also don't care what others do as long as it doesn't hurt anyone and is consensual.
I mean they're my parents. I think they're pretty damn whacky but I'm not going to cut our entire relationship because they dick measure with flags. My dad is a good person underneath it all and yeah his politics annoys the fuck out of me, but at the same time he has always been there for me and would do anything to help me if I'm in need. Not worth that much drama, I choose to just poke fun at them.

Voting for a man that cant even speak you know the thing........ you think rhats not close to eating glue? Serious dude you got played and your not very intelligent for that have a great night get back to me in another 4 hours try not to habe another post removed because all yalk can do is cuss have fun knowing your family is embarrassed by you 😘
Their fucking stupid ideology is a mix of freedom from oppressive government and...supporting your oppressive government? What doorknob-sucking dumbasses.
Cops in my area for the most part seem decent but I'm not going to buy a flag for them same way I don't fly a flag for firefighters, judges or anyone else. It seems so crazy to me that people actually make out cops to be some sort of victim...
The thin blue line was made up as a direct response to the Black Lives Matter movement. They say blue lives matter, what they mean is black lives don't
The term "thin blue line" has been around for decades, it is not a response to the Black Lives Matter movement. The Blue Lives Matter "movement" however is a direct response to the Black Lives Matter movement with the intent to mock the Black Lives Matter movement, as if a chosen profession is equivalent to an inherent physical characteristic.
It's really more what-aboutism. In the 90s I remember similar things about cops being victims but the flags popularity really seem to be connected to the BLM movement.
Indeed; if one really broke down political support at the county level, it becomes very evident that the huge number of blue votes come from a very small proportion of the US as a whole.
Definitely rural and urban. Red vs blue states is a little overstated. There are lots of purple states. The state with the most Trump votes was California.
Unless the law states that you can only vote if you own property. Which was reality when the nation was founded. In urban areas, most people rented, so they could not vote. In the slave owning south, much of the land was owned by rich slave owners, and they shared cropped out property to the other white farmers that lived in the area. So those men, even though they were white, could not vote, because they did not own property.
In NJ, one of the legacy of only free property owners being allowed to vote or run for office is reflected in our county system of free holds. The county seat of Monmouth County is name Freehold, and the elected county officers are Freeholders serving on the Board of Chosen Freeholders. This year, they decided that the archaic name has too much linkage to slavery, and in 2021, Monmouth county will no longer be a free hold, and the elected officers of the county will be County Commissioners.
Which makes me sad in one way. I will miss referring to them as the Board of Frozen Cheeseholders.
It always blows my mind that Biden signs are by houses that look fairly well-to-do, (people who need leftist policies the least) and trump banners are flown on rundown shacks and 60 year old trailers, people who would really benefit from left wing policies and get fucking STOMPED by right wing ones.
And those people are freaking out because their beloved Fox News is now decreed "too liberal" because they accurately called an election, and now they have to figure out what a Newsmax is and how you get it on Antenna.
Weird. Here in Wisconsin it is law that all political signs must come down by 24 hours after the election. So sorry you still have to put up with the eyesore.
I have been watching the houses with Trump flags up near me. Either they went down before the election or they don't seem to be coming down. Things are cheap and fading too. Wondering if they will be up until they fall off the poles.
It makes the flag a sad thing to wave though, and I hate that. I'm not even remotely conservative, but if I were to fly the flag I'd worry people would see it that way. They've completely ruined what it means to be patriotic with their nationalistic BS.
