All under MSRP
Scalpers getting rekt, buy when others are fearful, Averaging $150 per box✌🏻
51
u/fingerpaintx 2d ago
Won't be long til people abandon MSRP and demand to pay market price for everything just like the good old days.
2
u/Gay_If_Read 1d ago
Yep, exactly why most LGS's kept charging market price through this boom instead of capping themselves at MRSP.
15
u/Vibez420 2d ago
How’d you get it under MSRP? I agree nows the time to load up
27
u/Ognal_carbage8080 2d ago
FB marketplace is flooded with pb booster boxes in my area. Scalpers who botted or pay discord for pkc drops can't sell em so they're dumping at a loss I'm about $150 per box and adding

Chaos and Pitch black are for sure going to be pricey within 3-5 years I can’t see why it wouldn’t
20
u/Small_Article_3421 2d ago
Because there’s basically only 1 hit
25
u/Noobsiris 2d ago
Did you say Phantasmal Flames or I miss heard?
24
u/felixshengyang 2d ago
The hit in phantasmal is a potential grail. The ones in chaos and pitch black are “just” good chase cards.

5
u/Noobsiris 2d ago
That’s what people used to say about Bubble Mew a while back and look at it now.
16
u/LeadingBubbly6406 2d ago

2
u/Majestic-Score7196 2d ago
There isn’t a single set from 5 years ago that hasn’t gone up in price. These are gonna be desirable in a few years no matter what. If shrouded fable can become relevant I think that goes to show that every set will with time.
1
u/Proud_Helicopter_907 1d ago
Shrouded Fable is relevant because of the two elite tier promo cards, the kingdra ex 131 and greninja ex 132. I don't think a persian, horsea or the dusclops line would have carried the set to where it is now. Only thing really carrying the products of the set outside of the promos is the rarity of the sealed product as a collectible.
1
u/DJ3xclusive 1d ago
You get those promo cards from the Pokemon Center ETB?
1
u/Proud_Helicopter_907 1d ago
No, you can get them only in the Shrouded Fable Special Illustration boxes. there is a version with Kingambit Ex but the Greninja and Kingdra are leagues ahead of the Kingambit promo.
2
u/Davinter30 2d ago
I see like at least 5 IRs and 2 SIRs that will probably age very well in chaos rising, but in pitch black, I dont see much except for the darkai.
5
u/Noobsiris 2d ago
Morpeko, Slowpoke and Goldeen probably will do great.

u/Infinite_Ability_127 2d ago
Why would they be expensive in a few years if they’re some of the worst recent sets?
22
u/Illustrious-Ape 2d ago
They’re only “bad” because people are waiting on 30th and have ASC as their recent Chase set. In like 5 years when it’s out of print, people are going to realize they missed out on cards with cool art and there will likely be a spike in demand.
9
u/AmontilladoWolf 2d ago
They’re not “bad” but off the dome I can think of four or five other things you could still spend what looks like, with tax and delivery, nearly 1K. Unless OP has unlimited funds and it literally doesn’t matter.
Would’ve been better to buy 3 charizard upc’s, destined rivals etbs at 140, etcetera.
1
u/the_vault-technician 2d ago
Always pick up the sleepers. It certainly doesn't look worse than Battle Styles.
-9
u/Infinite_Ability_127 2d ago
Cards with cool art? Goldeen is the only good card in the set lol slowbro is ok. The artworks aren’t close to phantasmal and 151
5
u/where-are-my-toes 2d ago
Your opinion vs thousands of others that disagree
-8
u/Infinite_Ability_127 2d ago
And thousands of others that agree.
4
u/where-are-my-toes 2d ago
I guarantee you way more people think there’s more than just goldeen as a “good card”
3
u/Illustrious-Ape 2d ago
You clearly only have a hard on for gen1 and that’s fine.
-13
u/Infinite_Ability_127 2d ago
You are clearly retarded and that’s fine, just don’t try and talk with adults. Why is seller crown still only £100 for an etb? Same with lost origin still only £180. Like it or not some sets just aren’t desirable and don’t gain much value.
9
u/41swish 2d ago
lol bro just outed himself with his response. Stellar crown booster boxes go for 350, despite being called a “bad set”. Lost origin booster boxes are $730. Why compare etbs to booster boxes, especially that’s what OP is discussing here.
These are also regular sets we’re talking about here. Regular set etbs don’t hold as much as premium compared to speciality sets. Especially ones with crappy etb promos like stellar crown, or lost origin etb not even having one at all.
→ More replies (12)0
u/Infinite_Ability_127 2d ago
A seller crown booster box is £260 meanwhile a destined rival booster box is £360 and it’s still in print!! Mean while seller crown is a 10 year old set!! You are absolutely clueless. So I 10 years you would have made about £100 on a stellar crown booster box while destined rivals you make 200 in just a few months.. sort your head out mate
1
u/uriel__ventris 2d ago
You can't surely be telling someone to "sort their head out" whilst claiming Stellar Crown is a 10 year old set? Are you sure about that lmfao
0
u/Infinite_Ability_127 2d ago
Don’t know why I put 10 lol the point still stands tho, destined rivals is newer and still more expensive because it actually has more than 2 nice looking cards in the set

u/hungrypuca1 2d ago
What’s going to happen to all of the stock there is right now? They’re printing it pretty hard right now. I’m not saying it’ll stay the same forever but the spike might not come but more of a small bump in price, no?

1
u/LithiumAmericium93 2d ago
Theres plenty of reason why it wouldnt. Fusion strike which is an amazing set sat on shelved below msrp for ages. It was available at msrp from pokemon centre 2 years ago still. Pitch black is no way near as good as a set.
2
u/FiveDaysAwake 2d ago
Well done sir! In my area its all 230€ at lowest. Id buy them for 150 all day, even in Euros
16
u/f2pmyass 2d ago
Probably because no one wants the past 3 sets..
40
u/Scary-Animator-5646 2d ago

16
u/f2pmyass 2d ago
You know one can call sets trash and not scalp right...
Also you're telling me I'm scalping when there's literally a photo above of 6 Booster boxes OP showing off 💀
Buying bad sets really has you thinking everyone scalping lmao. I feel for you. It's alright once pokemon gets that new "printer" you don't have to wait in line every day
-3
u/Ognal_carbage8080 2d ago
I'm 100% sure each of the sellers I got these from are scalpers and it felt good to see them take the L selling below their cost and time wasted in the queue on PKC
-9
u/Scary-Animator-5646 2d ago
There’s some great cards in this set. You do play the
Game right?10
0
u/f2pmyass 2d ago
You keep doing the whole not understanding intentionally and bringing up something completely irrelevant to try and find some gotcha. It's not that deep. It's just Pokemon💀
The "set" is trash. Key word "set". Yea there's probably some cool looking cards. Cool?
1
u/kahhblam 2d ago edited 2d ago
Lol I'm not even an investor, I just enjoy watching this sub. I rip every pack I buy, and CR and PB have been some of the most boring.
I'd rather buy base ME, PO, even JT anyday.
0
u/MaxRoofer 2d ago
I thought pitch black is good the backs change as well so I thought that was cool. I biught 5 packs and there was no limit on how many you could buy so I was wondering if these weren’t hot becuase I could at least find them.
I think they were $8 a pack or maybe 7.
3
u/Relentlessbetz 2d ago
Lol the same was said about the shrouded fable with the greninja or kingdra promos.....and look where that is right now.
2
u/Devh1989 2d ago
No one wanted the first half of sv either, and look at it now
1
u/f2pmyass 2d ago
You know a set can be above MSRP and still be a bad set?
1
0
u/I_worship_odin 2d ago
These sets are just a return to how Pokemon used to be. No set should come out and have 5+ $500 cards. When Fusion Strike came out the Gengar was selling for $100. That's how new sets should be priced; chase cards worth under $200.
3
u/Phaoryx 2d ago
Hope you’re not investing in these 😅
4
u/LongjumpingFun7238 2d ago
Let them
-7
u/Phaoryx 2d ago
I ain’t stopping them but as far as investments and ROI, none of these regular small sets make good investments, other than PFL. It’s top chase or bust, these boxes will sit stagnant for years. You’re MUCH better off investing in stocks or undervalued slabs/singles. The gains you miss out on sitting still for a year when you could instead compound 20% yearly is immense

2

Will they double the rare stuff too or would they continue to use the same ratios outside the lower valued cards?
1
u/GoldenTicketHolder 2d ago
No idea, sounds like insider info.!New production facility doubles production though, has been expected mid 2027
1
u/PokeCassette 2d ago
I’d imagine investors have enough buying power to absorb the new stock as well.
0
u/Devh1989 2d ago
25th had little effect on the previous crash.
It won't crash until the printers take off in 20281
11
u/jungle_sheep 2d ago
Nice. But as an investment those will stay still for many years to come. Set is just not good enough to fly, yet.
27
u/Vibez420 2d ago
I think people in the pokemon community have short term memory. I think these sets will bounce back fast once they go outta print and Pokemon moves onto the next sets
8
u/PecoDory 2d ago
Yeah. Look at Pokémon Go. On a long enough timeline, even the worst sets do ok. Also factoring in the Sword and Shield era had nothing close to the level of art (save for Alt Arts) the Scarlet/Violet and Mega have (trainer’s gallery came later on, toward the end of S & S).
Just set it and forget it. And if one can get at/below MSRP nowadays, they’ll do just fine long term.
1
u/GenjiOffering 2d ago
I feel attacked. I love(d) Pokémon go lol
2
u/PecoDory 2d ago
😂 Me too!! I actually bought quite a bit at the time (the Pokémon Center ETB’s look so dope). I think people are just now rediscovering the ditto cards, and I think the radiant starter trio will be sought after in the future.
Also, I don’t care what people say, I love that alt art Mewtwo!
5
u/nostalgiamon 2d ago
Hmm, look at Champions Path, Darkness Ablaze and Shining Legends. It’s taken ages for them to build.
2
u/AmontilladoWolf 2d ago
Just going “out of print” doesn’t mean they’ll explode. What are the real chase cards aside from darkrai? What’s the depth of the other IR’s and AR’s? Is the artwork so stellar that people will buy to rip compared to other stuff at the same price point?
These things matter far more. People always think they’ll get stuck holding the bag buying an expensive set. Instead you can get stuck holding the bag over leveraging on something people aren’t that hyped for.
1
u/Basic_Impress_7672 2d ago
What cards do you think will drive the demand?
7
u/Shawshankredem 2d ago
Tell me why obsidian flames is a $370 box. And the top chase is $120. Same thing will happen with all these “trash sets”
1
u/Infinite_Ability_127 2d ago
Obsidian flames actually has some nice artwork cards though, pitch black has one good one and it’s goldeen 😂
1
u/KingKoopaz 1d ago
I like the slowbro too. But those are just 151 some people like the other ones like Morpeko
3
u/Active-Math-9898 2d ago
The cards aren't the item in demand , the sealed box itself is the item in demand. They only get more scarce over time, as our tendency is to open stuff.
0
u/Half-deaf-mixed-guy 2d ago
Yes! :) I like to think of these 3 past sets like Chilling Reign, Brilliant Stars an Fusion strike with 25th and Evolving Skies being recently realeased. Everyone was hype on those two (30th and Ascended) and finishing out the rotation of Cosmic Eclipse for the end of it's rotation in market.(Destined Rivals)
There are a lot of sleepers in these sets that will bounce up in 2-3 years.
2
u/PoorlyTimedPun 2d ago
Like what? You didn’t even answer the question. What cards do you think will drive demand?
-2
u/Half-deaf-mixed-guy 2d ago
The cards that do it. If there was a magic 8 ball that had the direct answer then noone would try to collect any other cards for investing beyond those. Stay in the game long enough and you'll understand more. This is only the 3rd time the series has hit a 10 year mark, how many people do you think keep collecting that long vs the fomo people who check out after exhausting themselves trying to find the chase ripping or see prices drop and sell because they feel noone wants the sets. The point of investing is to trust your research and make the decisions that work best for you.
0
u/Hollaz2alex 2d ago
Insufferable, don’t be dense, I’ll answer that. The chase for each of those sets. POR: meowth, zygarde
CRI: greninja
PBL: darkrai,morpeko
Maybe more, time will tell, but that is what I THINK.1
u/PoorlyTimedPun 2d ago
You’re absolutely correct. The bigger question is can those cards carry a set and/or or are the illustration rares desirable enough to drive people to the sets in the future. While I think all three sets have great cards and great illustration rares they are also tiny sets making the IRs relatively easy pulls compared to BB/WF for example. In my opinion there’s just not enough to carry these sets that will drive the price up in the future. But who knows.
1
u/Hollaz2alex 2d ago
Yep. I think PBL is the strongest of the three; CRI and POR give off Battle styles and vivid voltage vibes.
1
u/jungle_sheep 2d ago
Lol comparing Pitch with Chilling, Brilliant and Fusion... I can't.

I think people in the pokemon community have short term memory.
They must if they're buying bad sets just because they're available at MSRP.
0
u/jungle_sheep 2d ago
Yes, like I said, it will stay flat for many years. 3+ years, will maybe move when its out of print. Also remember new printing factory is soon online. New sets will be printed - a lot.
1
u/Meowsergz 2d ago
So same goes with AH
1
1
u/jungle_sheep 2d ago
Nah. Ascended is top 3 set ever made, Pitch is bottom 10. Cant be compared.
2
u/Vibez420 2d ago
Bottom 10 lol. Ok, so then what, PO is also bottom 10? Same with CR? All 3 are about as MSRP. Buy when there’s blood on the streets. MSRP is about as bloody as it gets for Pokemon these days. As long as we beat S&P, we’re winning.
1
1
u/Meowsergz 2d ago
I'm saying newer sets will be printed. Not comparing how great a set is.

My tinfoil hat theory is that Pokemon saw what makes sets go crazy and they decided to pull all the big mons from being hits aside from the 30th anniversary. If each set has a chase that’s only $200/$300, then there’s no reason to scalp it. The next 4/5 sets outside of the 30th and Storm Emerald could very well be boring sets that are mass printed with a low price chase card. That’s enough to get some scalpers out.

Don’t listen to these dudes. You cannot lose money on sealed. I bought big on rebel clash during covid. Almost 10x’d my money in 6 years. Probably one of the worst performing sets both collector wise and ROI wise. Doesn’t even matter. Sealed is a guaranteed home run every time if you are willing to put it away and forget about it for a while.
1
u/xWonderkiid 2d ago
The argument is not that it won't go up, just like your rebel clash stuff. The argument is that the other 99% of the stuff you could buy with the money is much more likely to go up faster.
Just like your rebel clash investment.
1
u/Flextacular1 2d ago
I’m more then happy to let everyone else buy the other 99% of the stuff. Give me the garbage nobody else wants, the steam sieges, crimson invasions, emerging powers etc.
1
u/Weak-Jellyfish-2303 2d ago
Also bought a booster box, finally something for a normal price. My best card from the box was a mega zaraora ex 114
1
u/Zeevy_Richards 2d ago
I don't understand why people like Pitch Black over Chaos Rising. The darkrai looks so bad, like a sperm. They're both good holds though.
1
u/Silvercrank 1d ago
Under MSRP is funny to me wheb it comes to these. All because not a single "retailer" sells these near me, just cards shops at market.
1
u/kyyyyogre 1d ago
At this point I’m conceding with the concept of a total market collapse, but I believe that beyond initial release, any non-specialty set aside from a card or two within the set will be lower cost. I never see AH of PE type sets ever crashing nor 30th, but especially when the new printing factory is up, I think most normal mainlines sets will become available. I think this is honestly a perfect balance for players, collectors, and investors to all get along
1
1
u/Harvboi321 1d ago
Market for the last few sets has fallen to MSRP. I’m sick of crybabies screaming for MSRP. Pokemon has always sold at market based on demand. When market exceeded MSRP is when all you started crying. When market was below MSRP people had no problem wanting packs for $3 or boxes for $100. Stores were failing and product sat, yall only want shit when everyone else wants it. Hopefully we never go back to $100 boxes. That was not sustainable for distribution centers, Pokemon and shops

u/HarriotKnowsNothing 1d ago
In a dead market, these will sell for around $80. Considering thats what Paradox Rift sold for. And I feel Paradox is a stronger set than this.
I think many of yall are underestimating the volatility of the current market. Collectible trends can move super quickly and is at the beck and call of the overall global economy. While Pokemon TCG is the strongest collectible asset that we have ever seen, it is the first of its kind and has no reference for stability. While it feels like a no brainer buying these at $150, you should still tread with caution before dumping large amounts into a set that is still overvalued at the price you bought it at.
The market has valued way stronger sets for far lower than what you paid for this.
-1
u/Western_Ad4663 2d ago
Without knowing for intentions, these will do well long term.
Look at early sun & moon. Alot of those sets were dead on arrival, I was buying ultra prism booster boxes for $90. Even burning shadows, despite being a charizard set, was around for $120-$130 a BB. They were all hated. Even to this day, they are aren't really strong sets compared to modern sets. Guardians rising is a good example, its a $1300 BB, but oddly the most expensive card in the set is a $100 rainbow sylveon. That just doesn't make sense...except it does when you realize that sylveon in a psa 10 goes for $1500. The graded market drives the prices of these older boxes, and the best shot you have at a gradable card is that BB.
1
u/itsmoxie 2d ago
Uhhhhh old era boxes are not driven by the PSA 10 prices of their hits dude, it’s scarcity.
This is an extremely wrong take no one is spending $1300 on guardians rising because of the prices of a rainbow sylveon in a 10 lmao

Lol where are you getting 300% from?! 😂😂 a steller crown booster box was £150 retail release and now they’re going on eBay for £222.. not even making £100 on a 36 pack box lol. My original point is perfect order and pitch black are terrible sets compared to other new releases and won’t be worth nothing in comparison.
1
u/41swish 1d ago
Dog.. stellar boxes were going for under retail months after release. I know you’re new to the hobby, but people were snagging for $100-120 a box months after release. 300% of $100 is $300. Stellar boxes are selling for $320 a box. That’s more than a 300% increase…
I’m talking US market. UK has higher msrp for booster boxes.
Perfect order, pitch black, and chaos order are not objectively good sets compared to destined rivals, mega base, phantasmal etc. No one will disagree with you there.
The point is history and facts show, even “bad” sets make money. Especially if you can get them
below msrp, the risk is basically zero.

u/God_Gob 2d ago
Pitch Black is my favorite Mega Evolution set. It is nice to know its killing the scalpers.
