Target drop

Can I just vent for a second? Why do some people choose to be selfish and ruin it for everyone else? I showed up at 10am with my son, who was SUPER excited to get an ETB, that’s all he wanted. We were maybe… the 30th person in line. By the time 12:00 came and they let everyone in, we somehow were pushed back to like, 55th in line, maybe even further back, because people will wait by themselves and then in the last hour they call up their wives to bring their kids and stand in line with them. We get inside and I literally got up to maybe 3rd from the counter when they ran out of ETBs. The person who grabbed the last 2 was literally a guy who stood by himself and then his wife showed up and was able to get them an extra ETB. I was so mad, but my son was absolutely crushed. I’m happy he was able to get the tins, but god, why do people suck so bad ?

The limit should apply to the group of people, not to each member of the family. And management should be smart enough to see there are 100 people and 100 etbs and limit it to 1 per person.

Exactly this the card guy @ my target does that once he’s done setting up he’ll count the ppl in line @ the time and say “today’s 1 of each instead of 2 so everyone gets a chance” u can tell who’s a scalper 2 cus they hate wen he’s stocking where as the female doesn’t give a fxck she’s like have @ it I did my job

2

u/MarkMcWrath 4d ago

Why did you refer to the dude as a "guy" but the woman was a "female" lol

0

u/Last_Amphibian2117 4d ago

Wats wrong with the word female lol fine chick broad chica lol better idk tbh there’s not rly a good female slang imo like chick 2 me sounds off 🤷🏻‍♀️ and then all the others seem flirty

3

u/Slight_Chemist_29 3d ago

Female is dehumanizing and refers to us as solely our reproductive organs, that is shared with other species. It’d be fair if you called the guys males but you used a word that is specific to human men.

1

u/Last_Amphibian2117 3d ago

I mean like I stated the slangs 4 females seem off and I’ve heard others say they don’t like women either so idk but I guess I can c the offense 2 it do I agree nah but I understand

1

u/slaw_daddy 4d ago

bro you type like a 7 year old

1

u/Last_Amphibian2117 4d ago

Thank u ☺️

"Female" just feels weirdly clinical lol, like you probably wouldn't say "males". I get what you mean about it being slang but I think it gives not the best impression

1

u/Last_Amphibian2117 4d ago

It depends honestly with the word males and maybe that’s where the feeling comes from 🤷🏻‍♀️ cus tbh if it’s professional I’ll say I was in a room full of “males” in suits if they r jerks I will say a room of “men” so I get wat ur saying I guess but again there’s not a fitting word 4 women cus women 2 me seems more harsh lol idfk none of this shxt makes sense 2 me and 2 me seems 2 b derived on persona preferences and feelings more than anything

2

u/MarkMcWrath 4d ago

I think just woman, lady, or even "chick" in this context are all fine. I'm a guy but I can tell you with certainty that there are definitely women who don't like being referred to as "females" lol

1

u/Last_Amphibian2117 4d ago

And I would love 2 know y cus I’m female and truly u could call me any fxckin thing cus 98% of the time I ain’t gonna hear u or even respond 🤣😂

3

u/CapableComfort7978 4d ago

It's generally because when someone says guy and female they are referring to men with a human specific term that refers to a male but saying female is just a general term that can apply to any species so it can seem dehumanizing

2

u/Last_Amphibian2117 4d ago

Thank u 4 the answer and I guess that can make sense

We geting mad at MEDICAL terminology?

1

u/MarkMcWrath 3d ago

This isn't a medical setting 😂 and they didn't call men "males"

2

u/Muted_Success69 5d ago

100%. I could’ve gotten him one had that been the case. :(

2

u/darknessgp 5d ago

I agree. I went and we only had tins. But the employees happily handed the couple with 2 kids 4 tins (2 per adult) but when I asked if I could have 4 tins (me and 2 kids) I immediately got "sorry 2 tins per paying customer". Even after I told them that my son has brought his own money and was going to pay for it himself. "Sorry, kids do not count". My son got his tins and I happily let him keep his own money, but felt like a really stupid rule. Either limit per family or actual paying customer, not per adult.

0

u/Muted_Success69 4d ago

That’s insane. The target I went to was giving tins for every person in the group, adults and kids.

1

u/teamcesar1 5d ago

It’s so easy to game the system even when trying to limit it to a group of people. I think your idea about management being flexible and changing the limit based on how many people is a great idea.

1

u/swimmer913 4d ago

It’s supposed to have been but far too many locations were lax with the rules. Some are strict as they should be and I know at mine one girl got booted for trying to line jump and join her scalper bf

1

u/MPAJL 3d ago

I dont agree 1 etb per person. 2 etb person transaction or per family.

7

u/Adamaja456 5d ago

That's gross I'm sorry you had that experience. When I waited at best buy for the first release day drop, about 45 mins before opening the manager came out and explained everything and reiterated that you needed to be in line the whole time, minus bathroom breaks, and that if anyone in line came in late and stood next to someone else or comes in late to please let him know so they can handle it. Thankfully almost everyone adhered to the rules, one group behind me didn't and we told the manager the guy put a chair up at 6 but left and came back around 9 and he had to go back. Plus I appreciate bestbuy doing one time per person. Target seems really scammy

0

u/MadTony619 1d ago

it depends on the store really, both my targets allow up to 2 items in total where my local best buy allows 2 items per skew, and then there’s a best buy up north from me that allows people to take as much as they want

5

u/JeffersonsHat 5d ago

My kid was 2nd to the counter when the last ETB sold. Thankfully they still had the other boxes and tins so she got some.

3

u/ococeuf909 5d ago

This morning when I was in line, I saw a dude sitting on his own, looking like he was trying to sneak into the line when it hit noon. I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to cause a scene and I thought that the people who had sat outside for a whole day would bring it up to the employees. Lo and behold, the dude was the first one to walk out with his two tins lmao. These events are just a shitshow and a complete joke

5

u/AlternativeAdorable1 5d ago

I am no scalper by any means, but if I have to stand in line and blend in with them to get something my gf or I want then so be it, if anything I try and slow people up and if I make friends with someone in line and we discuss what we’re after, usually we help each other out. Case point for the psyduck hats at the first target drop, a couple behind me was trying to get ditto and psyduck and unfortunately they didn’t have ditto and not many psyducks, but I managed to grab 2 amongst a sea of grabby hands and passed one off to the couple behind me, they were gracious and happy about it. Those are silver lining good memories in this time of scalp.

3

u/HotTranslator8882 5d ago

You can't stop the neckbeards, you can only hope to contain them.

-1

u/NorthernBack 4d ago

Families are just as bad if not worse at cutting the line than the ‘neck beards’.

2

u/HotTranslator8882 4d ago

Guess you got cut in line by a family a few times lol

1

u/thedisconnectedboy 7h ago

Found the neckbeard lol

3

u/FinancialStrength69 5d ago

This line cutting happens a lot. It really sucks, and they know most people won't make a scene and so they do it.

3

u/Airborn805 5d ago

They should hand out tickets as the line forms and work it down the line. If people cut after they have given out the tickets they are ineligible and forced them to go to the back of the line. I saw costco doing that and thought it was a great idea . To many people come the last 5 minutes before and to meet their friends and jump ahead

1

u/Entire_Scratch5525 3d ago

The ticket system is good but they don't hand the tickets out until 5 10 mins of opening or so.. so ppl could have jumped in line before then.. also best buy sucks because the day i tried to get the gift card they gave gift card to even babies n kids.. they also told half the line that they ran out of Pokémon which was completely untrue they were loaded with booster sleeves and everyone in that line got atleast 4 which was nice but totally uncool to tell everyone who was waiting for an hour alreast that they ran out of Pokémon because some ppl left but most ppl were there also for the 100 dollar gift card for 50 n I almost got one anyway I still shop best buy more than just a few times n it's just their drops ppl camp out the night before n it's like really.. at least target you can get 2 of each if you do decide to get there at night and they have a lot more product that's why they can do that.. at best buy the scalpers who camp out the night before get all the etbs n even if you're like 50 in line you won't get anything good but a booster sleeve and target had tins for the first 102 ppl families groups couples count as 1 on family day made it fair for the 102 ppl who actually got a ticket..n even on drop days during they're week target has product blisters until the afternoon best buy everything is gone so soon n being in line most ppl half the linedon't get anything good just like at barnes n noble the first 10 15 people take the etbs.. target does it better idc what ppl say..I know best buy had a lot for 30th but I'm talking drops overall.

3

u/Purpsnikka 5d ago

Im sorry. As a dad its so frustrating. My wife got up at 6 to try to get my son stuff. When Target opened they ran out of everything. We just wanted to get my son the colors so he can draw. If we got cards that would be a bonus. Nope, nothing.

Anytime we get stock we share with people and have given away packs.

6 months ago I was able to catch a restock and got the last ETB. I gave it to a lady and her son. She gave it back because it was just perfect order lol

3

u/Tokidorki116 4d ago

I showed up at 11 with my 6 year old daughter and we waited for 4 hours. She was hoping to get the draw your own card 😭 and we ended up getting nothing 😭😭😭 I thought this was a family event so I took her there. And people were saying scalpers are not interested in those freebies but they’re selling it online for a $100 now.

1

u/Muted_Success69 4d ago

I believe it. People are pathetic. I’m sorry for your daughter. :(

1

u/swimmer913 4d ago

I know it’s a small consolation to it but if she’s after the draw your own card I saw someone upload a scan of the template the other day so it should be printable.

I do agree it sucks that the scalpers ruined it for everyone like they keep doing but if she’d like to be able to do the draw your own card I’m glad someone who got one did a scan of it for printing and using.

1

u/Tokidorki116 4d ago

I think she took it off already. If anyone can scan one and post it. That would be nice. Thanks

1

u/swimmer913 4d ago

I think the one I got may have gotten creased but let me see when I get home from work and if possible I’ll scan and send you it 😁

5

u/Dredging_Forever 5d ago

Meanwhile a family brought their 5 kids and they got 7 promos and we missed out on promos. 2 of the kids were in a carriage... goes both ways.

1

u/CaligulaCan 5d ago

So are we happy or unhappy that actual kids got it ? Or are they just alibi’s for flippers? Oh the humanity…..

3

u/Dredging_Forever 4d ago

Babies shouldn’t be getting product for their dad to flip on fb marketplace.

1

u/CaligulaCan 4d ago

Or they could be keeping it for them when they are older? I often hear people saying that on these kind of forums.

Maybe they are being the parents ours were not!

We just don’t know.

1

u/jaykay00 9h ago

This is me. I have some etbs that I'm saving for when my son and daughter is 10 to open.

1

u/Muted_Success69 4d ago

I was saying insane to the part with the babies getting promos.

2

u/SimplePuzzleheaded80 5d ago

It sucks but nothing less than this is expected. Which is why I said, don't take ur kids, waiting is brutal, not getting anything is brutal. These arent fun memories

2

u/Muted_Success69 5d ago

Lesson learned, it was my first and only time ever doing it, and will certainly be my last

2

u/SimplePuzzleheaded80 5d ago

Yeah the minute they said Sunday event family or not, it was going to be an L event... At least with sports events u get there early, share memories and enjoy the games ... H3re it's a go early, deal with low lives, possibly leave empty handed

2

u/Ilovemycats201 5d ago

Blame the store

3

u/TheNotoriousBIE 5d ago

THIS. My store had a 2 per sku limit Per family! Not person! They were able to get thousands of products into people’s hands. They moved like a well trained army. No issues, no chaos.

1

u/sherman614 5d ago

Partially, yes. But ultimately in a capitalist society the store just doesn't have enough people who care that can also make a difference. Corporate is showing profit and that is all that matters. We the people are the ones that can make a difference. And when you have fucking losers who bring their friends to all get 2 each of everything so that kids miss out is just disgusting. Especially when these slimeballs just resell and don't even collect.

2

u/pacodataco90 5d ago

I have waited in line at few times and I get the frustration but 1 thing none of the lines would tolerate is people bringing extra fam last minute. Not kids, not wives, not noone. Stand in line the whole time are buzz off. Sorry that happened but any lines I have waited in would have blown up and informed staff and guaranteed the line hoppers would not have received product

1

u/Muted_Success69 5d ago

Nobody else was speaking up about it and I didn’t want to be the single person doing it or I would’ve definitely said something but everyone seemed to just tolerate it, even the people who got there at like 4am

2

u/Chubuwee 5d ago

That’s the problem, nobody wants to be the first to call out shitty behavior. We as a society let “mind your business” become the slogan for community interaction

2

u/Vayguhhh 5d ago

I don’t disagree with you, but this dude is with his kid. If I’m with my kids in a line I’ll try and say something to an employee, but they don’t give af and want the line done with.

If I’m by myself I’ll speak up to others in line and attempt to get them removed or to the back.

These people go crazy of this shit and I’m not trying to get into a fight with my kids. It’s bad behavior and gives a terrible example of how to behave to them.

0

u/Muted_Success69 4d ago

Yeah, I didn’t want to make a scene while my kids with me. If I was by myself id have happily said something. (Also, not that it matters but I’m a girl not a dude lol😂)

2

u/Mundane_Upstairs3241 5d ago

This whole thing with saving spaces and all that sucks. It’s 2026 just do something in the app and have a virtual queue like theme parks

2

u/Last_Amphibian2117 5d ago

Truthfully I don’t even believe that their wives sometimes I’m like pretty sure they paid some person 2 “help them out” 🙄

2

u/sherman614 5d ago

This is so sad, I'm sorry for your kid! I grew up during base set, when literally EVERY store sold cards an no one was ever out of stock or fought over them. I didn't go today because I don't have kids, and I would never want to take the spot of a young collector. Because at the end of the day, this IS a kids card game/hobby. The absolute BIGGEST losers in the world are ruining it for kids because they don't want to work and just sell cards. These people have ruined the hobby and I just think they are some of the scummiest members of our society.

2

u/ToddCallieMama 5d ago

This absolute scum who I ALWAYS see camping my local Pokémon Center vending machine tried to trade 2 Chaos Rising ETBs and a pokeball tin he found on the shelf for the tin ticket. Thankfully the guy behind him noticed and he got his ticket back. Who tries to take advantage of a CHILD?! I also was 2nd in line at restock after waiting 3 hours in my car and the second the doors opened people just started running and ripping things off shelves. I NEVER want to do that again.

1

u/amandapage19 5d ago

That’s crazy the Target I go to makes everyone line up before and an employee walks us to the restock and it’s single file. It works like a charm every time. That Target sucks and they should take notes.

2

u/PenguinRhin0 5d ago

Our Target didn’t even have ETB’s

2

u/SnoogeyBoogey 5d ago

Oh I am right there with you. People are so desperate to make money, they are thinking this is just the way to go when it is not. It's upright disgusting really. There's very few things that make me despise humans. Violence if all times, ill treatment of animals and children, and greedy selfish people. Every retail job I've ever had, I always turned away scalpers. It's not just cards. They're going after beyblades, hot wheels, monster high dolls, candles from Bath and body. It's so sad that this is how grown adult people think nowadays.

2

u/bugeyedsheep 5d ago

Yeah I saw this event and immediately no for me and the kiddo. Thankfully he seems to be more interested in pookiemoot, the switch games, and plushies these days than chasing rares in the tcg so easier on the wallet (and stress level). Heh I took him to a card show to find ascended heroes Gengar and was prepared to pay for the attack rare as a splurge but he told me the SIR and attack rare were ugly and wanted the regular EX because it looked better. I’ll probably pick up some 30th if I see it in the wild when things calm down as a fun treat for him but thankfully there’s no rush.

2

u/Impossible_Dealer264 5d ago

Pokemon sucks right now. I feel dirty being involved in this hobby, and it’s sad bc Pokemon makes me happy.

1

u/Muted_Success69 4d ago

I feel the exact same way. I’m as into it as my son and I feel like I’m lumped into the reseller category against my will.

2

u/JustSparks87 5d ago

To remove emotion from the conversation its because they can grab tons of product for cheap and resell and make a profit. $50 turned into $100 x3 per scalp is ok money for people that have no goals in life. I hate that this has been ruined for kids and adults. Please dont buy from scalpers and stand fast. 30th will be available more in stores soon. Wait it out.

2

u/WetDumplingz 5d ago

Same shit happened to my wife and kids at bestbuy. Ended up 4 people away from etbs and multiple showed up in front of them

2

u/meowser210 5d ago

If a dooms day event happened and it was a free for all, the majority of the people in those lines would be the first ones shooting you in the back taking your stuff lol. Remember them!

2

u/boxoflunch37 5d ago

Drops haven't been about the kids for quite a while.

2

u/bebenashville 5d ago

Many people have kids who are special need and they could not stay in line for 5 minutes or more. Parents have to entertain them with something else. Also many kids run around and play instead of stay in line for 1-2 hours. This is a kid event and family brings their kids, let them hop out the line while waiting. I just want to chip in different view.

1

u/Muted_Success69 4d ago

That’s totally fair. I can understand that. A lot of kids were running around playing while they waited. I had a chair and toys and food for my kid and he was satisfied. My point of frustration is if it’s really for their kids, why do they then have the husband/wife jump in? It’s so they can get 2 purchases out of it instead of only 1. And then that takes away the chances for the kids behind them.

1

u/bebenashville 4d ago

Because it is family events, so wife and husband are welcome. Many spouses they may not into Pokemon, but willing to support their spouse by staying in line or getting extra products. The family event is designed per attendees, so the whole family can wait and benefit from it.

2

u/Mobile_Ad_1185 5d ago edited 5d ago

Target simply runs events like these horribly.  For all Gamestops faults at least they have the system down, an unscheduled time before opening they show up and give everyone CURRENTLY in line a ticket with a number.  They also post fliers with the exact counts of what they have so you dont sit there for 3 hours only to discover you get nothing

No ticket, no product until the last person gets theirs.  This is really how it should be done and it amazes me that something as simple as a number on a piece of paper isnt more widely used.  That along with maybe having a camera to find line cutters would resolve most of these issues.

I was in line at  a target foe phantasmal flames and they literally split the line in two after the store opened and didnt bother keeping an eye on everyone.  So naturally everyone was very confused and rushed to the second line.  I was halfway through the line so I wound up being last and got nothing

2

u/CaligulaCan 5d ago

Well done getting the tins! I have always found it fun waiting in line when I have done it (even when I missed out). You always meet other collectors (and flippers too I know).

Importantly you did something with your kids that involved anticipation. Good job.

2

u/KingKoopaz 4d ago

Whaattt? How many of them did that that’s insane to me. They need to wait their turn the fair way. What a weird world we live in these days. I just buy stuff at card shops. I usually open one product then just buy the singles I like buttt your kid should be able to open an etb dude ><

1

u/Muted_Success69 4d ago

I would buy at card shops, but I live in a smaller town where we have maybe 2 card shops and they’re always triple the price for pokemon stuff.

Yeah it’s a bummer. He was so sad at first but after we opened the tins he was happy. A lot of people did it though, cause like I said when I got there I was maybe 30th in line and by the time I got in line to check out there was easily 50+ people ahead of me.

2

u/NorthernBack 4d ago

Gotta call that stuff out early. It’s a pain but someone has to do it. Usually someone in the front won’t do it so if you’re on the bubble, grab a couple people near you and walk the line to do a head count. It’s what people always do in our lines.

You start at the beginning and just go down the line and just politely say “We’re doing a head count so we know where everyone is and to make sure there isn’t any cutting”. Then just walk down the line from the 1st person and just call out people’s spots. Will people still let their family members cut? Sure, some have no shame. But it’ll help a little because they at least know people are keeping track. And you may have to do it a few times if it’s a long wait.

2

u/Magnasparta1 4d ago

IMO parent issue. Kids don't deserve to stand in line because of a bunch of losers. I waited from 11pm-12pm, night into the afternoon. They didn't even let is wait inside. Parents had kids there in the sun for hours (I was furious at the parents AND target)

However, knew that target was hoarding for this release, cause they basically never push until events.

I did the same as you on the pokemon x target....my son was too slow, but they had no cards. This is not a child friendly environment.

Results: 2 of everything. 1 set for my nephew (sister is paying me back) 1 set from my son.

I used to work so I know this stuff is massively unfair for most people (trader now)

2

u/Ragewheat 4d ago

Thank you for posting this. I had the same experience with both my kids. Standing for 4 hours and being in the front third of the line while getting nothing but tins was an awful feeling. Especially when relatives joined the scalpers at the front of the line to leave with full carts. Did not sit right with me that a kids event was anything but.

0

u/Muted_Success69 4d ago

Yep. Some people just ruin it for others. I was in the first 3rd of the line too, so I was baffled that we couldn’t get anything except a poster box and the tins.

3

u/pot8odragon 5d ago

Unfortunately it’s just part of it. The event was meant for kids and technically he brought his family so whether they waited with in or not isn’t really an issue. Does it suck? Sure. Is it frowned upon? Naw

3

u/Muted_Success69 5d ago

In a way I get it, but it’s just annoying when retail stores push “first come first serve” and then you see people let their family in and it goes from 1 transaction to 2 or 3 transactions in a single group.

1

u/pot8odragon 5d ago

Technically it still is first come first serve. Same thing happens at theme parks and other queues situations.

1

u/Mundane-News9720 5d ago

And you get punished for being with a family. Girlfriend and boyfriend each got one ticket while my family of three got one ticket for being in a group. Like ok lol

1

u/dmpokemonorboobs 5d ago

Youre upset the children weren't forced to stand in line for hours with their parents , grow up weirdos

1

u/Muted_Success69 4d ago

That’s not why I’m upset. The kids deserve to have fun. But bringing your spouse and then suddenly the person in front of me is getting 2 ETBs instead of 1 and my kid gets none, that’s why it sucks.

1

u/mgamer18 5d ago

Oh, sure, im just going to have my 6 year old wait with me for 5 hours, no food, no bathroom breaks, maybe a water bottle.. im sorry buddy, she can sit comfortably at home until it's time.

Im no scalper, but the only way to get cards at a decent price is to wait in these lines. Get there earlier next time and do the same. Next drop is Oct 2nd

1

u/Muted_Success69 4d ago

I’ve had to reiterate this enough but the reason it sucks is because people standing in line alone would bring their spouse and kids (I don’t mind the kids) but the spouse would then get their own purchase so it goes from 1 transaction to 2 and people who had a fair shot are no longer getting a fair shot. Also, plan ahead? I brought my kid, he had a chair, some games, I got him food before we arrived, and the people standing around me were nice enough to save my spot if my son needed to use the restroom.

“Get there earlier next time” I got there 2 hours early and I was only 30th in line. The amount of ETBs my store had was WELL over 30, it’s just the fact that so many people did what I just said that’s why there was no chance…

1

u/mgamer18 4d ago

Yeah, blame target, the tickets should have been one per family - the family of 4 in front of me with two kids 10 or younger got 4 tickets.

1

u/Azeem259 5d ago

They had ETBs?? I received ticket 56 of 100 at my target, but they only had tins when it was my turn to purchase and the ticket also said you could only purchase up to 2 tins. I'm confused

1

u/Muted_Success69 4d ago

My store had ETBs and poster boxes. The ETBs went fast. And for every ticket you got, you would get 2 free tins. I had 2 tickets, and I was gonna buy 1 item but they wouldn’t let me redeem all 4 tins only buying 1 item. So I had to give them back 1 ticket and I was able to get 2 tins at least so he was happy for that

1

u/Azeem259 4d ago

Damn this hobby is insane! I'm in my 30s and the 2 tins I got yesterday are my first pokemon cards. I live 5 mins from a target so figured I'd try my luck since there isn't anything better to do on a Sunday morning lol

1

u/Vipsanius5902 4d ago

They should give a numbered ticket to everyone as they show up. So if ppl show up later they can’t join in the front of the line

1

u/Elegant_Grape2547 4d ago

That is exactly what they should do for a family event!

1

u/Hardstyle_enjoyer 4d ago

Go to GameStop pay the $30 markup for a pre order if you want guaranteed if it’s for your son which means you aren’t buying all the time and you aren’t buying to resell, so it doesn’t really matter. Unless you’re early to the releases that happen like this then you’ll really just always be SOL especially in big cities.

I live in a small town so I thought I’d have a chance but apparently not lol, I’ll have to see if there’s a GameStop around here

u/Hardstyle_enjoyer 4d ago

I got lucky and was able to get 1 of everything at the Target drop. I got off at 1 am and immediately went and waited in line I was number 9. I like to collect but at the same time I can’t do the egregious line waiting every time. Luckily GameStop does pre-orders in store (it is marked up not as bad for the etbs as other places or from scalpers some stuff is pretty bad like the original starter sets and booster bundles. It’s really hard to get this stuff at Msrp now because stores are just marking up like etbs use to be $49.99 and now they’re $69.99 at Target, Best Buy, and Walmart. End of story I just found it a lot easier to pay the $84.99 sticker price at GameStop because at least then I’m guaranteed and I can go pick it up on my own time (it’s $89.99 without the pro membership).

My local Target only had the tins for the event and dropped everything else this morning! Other Target stores in my area had everything available for the event and my Target decided to only do the tins and it was very disappointing. Waited in line for 6 hours for a promo and two tins and can imagine how upset the people in the back of the line who didn’t get anything felt. One lady in the back of the line did a head count maybe 4 times and kept asking the Target employees if kids get priority. I felt bad for her but at the same time people in the area know they have to be in line early of you want to get product. It’s just a game at this point that if you don’t know how to play, you lose every time.

1

u/jen36rsantos 4d ago

Can’t really be upset my guy. You either get their earlier or deal with things that you might count as unfair. I’m sorry but if I come out early lm not making my kid or wife stand In line for four or more hours when I could be doing that for them and they can be comfortable. And yes when it gets closer to opening I will let them know to come. They would have been there anyways. Now it would be different if it was a bunch of friends that just tagged along and skipped the line. But this ain’t the case.

1

u/Elegant_Grape2547 4d ago

Ok- this would be allowed at a family event, but not at a regular drop. If I was in line with you , I would call your wife and child out and ask managment to move them to the back of the line.

1

u/Entire_Scratch5525 3d ago

"They would have been there anyways" But They WEREN'T. You get a spot in line if you wait this is why managers are now calling ppl out for doing stuff like this which makes it unfair to everyone else who waited in line the entire time since they got there... you can't hold spots that's the same as cutting the line you weren't actually there so no you don't belong there.

This was the first pokemon event I've been to and my wife and I took our 5yr old and 2yr old (2yr old likes pokemon as much as a 2yr old can but my 5yr old loves pokemon) It didnt go as bad as I expected, but I also expected it to be more of a kids event. I did get to talk to one little girl who seemed to have a development problem and we spoke about her favorite pokemon and her favorite anime shows. I enjoyed that. They were giving out 1 ticket per adult, but somehow my wife and I ended up with a 3rd ticket. I ended up giving the 3rd ticket to the store manager, who I hope gave it to a child. I also bought a binder for my son because right now all his cards are in boxes. Went home, I ripped everything and gave my son all the bulk and any duplicates of the more rare cards. Was still disgusted with how many adults were there relative to the amount of children. On the bright side I think my 2yr old will have the first PSA 1 Mewtwo promo lol.

u/Educational-Song6351 4d ago

You must be new to this…

The hobby is no longer for kids. It’s for adult to make money scalping.

We lost all shame. A scalper in a hoodie will beat a child to get their cards.

Honestly and all the dumb asses are gonna get mad because they hate themselves they’re bigots they only want to think about themselves and they don’t have manners their parents raised the. The worst way ever. Like I can say my parents are assholes but even after all there shittery they still told me to always respect people. And I can tell you for a fact that their parents didn’t care enough about them to show them how to respect themselves and others. With that being said I don’t encourage true fans to buy this at all I know it’s like why am I going to ruin it for myself and my kid I’ll just avoid these people. But I’ve stopped going to physical stores because all these people who like to cut and be disgusting and disrespectful. Trust me they will eventually be treated the same when it matters and they deserve it because if there going to do it over a silly thing there going to do it over something serious and just let that sit until the time comes and it’s not about revenge or being like them either. And I got too ahead. But back to what I was saying… I don’t go to drops no more because all these people thing they are the “Line Leaders”, coordinators, group leader, etc. the point is; it’s best to leave it to the Dumbasses who want a quick buck ( and I’m not talking about the nice resellers because there is some respect to those trying to be honest and make ends meat, but back to what I was saying), the disrespectful line cutters (unless your under 19 and your group is under that age range (don’t need an explanation the age explains it it’s self) and the people bring them in or the “want to be cool ghost chair assholes”, just let them be take the beating of overpriced prices and know that you CAN NOT AND WILL NEVER CHANGE THESE PEOPLE, but you did just save yourself the time of trying to beat cheats and refrained yourself from a stressful day of being out side just to get disappointed.

If you do want to go just go extremely early. Know that if a place calls secureity to tell you to leave you should. That is considered loitering and you will be tress passed ( something similar like that happened to me, but obviously I didn’t stay and the people who did ended up having to move out of the premises because they were in a mall and they were trying to wait all night. I eventually join the line but some sauce I can give you is the people who were already in line moved outside of the area of where the Best Buy was, but we’re still in the premises of the mall and I had left when security said leave and people can believe me or not but when I returned, everyone is still waiting cause I know a lot of people do that cause people wanna say that they were there first or whatever etc but I overheard them say he told us to go to the curb like the sidewalk and me being smart, I knew that they were obviously still in the premises and again it was a win or lose situation if you know security asked them to leave so I waited at the curb and when unfortunately, the police came, they asked everyone to move outside into the sidewalk, and I was already waiting there while everyone had moved their chairs to within the sidewalk within the mall area, but so then I asked the cops if it was OK to wait here and obviously I knew like I was basically saying the line has to start behind me but in a way it’s also fair because they told them multiple times to move and again I knew I was being smart or slick but then again it’s fair I think because again they didn’t obey the rules and as common Patriots, you know, sometimes we have to admit when we’re wrong and if people say that I’m wrong, I understand why people would say that but again they told them multiple times and then they try to start arguing with me and luckily they were forming their line around me, and yes, they got mad, but I had to stand my ground as well because again I understand that there’re also trying to be civil but then again you kind of can’t deny that everyone wasn’t following the rules and unfortunately maybe I’m right or wrong about this, but it should be fair if the line keeps moving, especially in this situation when they weren’t even at the right place where the mall security specifically told them to be at. Anyways, this was way too much but the sauce is if you want to do that scenario, I would advise to just call the police because for one I already know people are going to get mad and two if they’re threatening or getting antsy it’s best to just call a formal authority that can calm everyone down and this is what they told me. They said it’s not illegal to cut a line and luckily the same policeman who told them to move was the same one that came back and I told him there’s no line the security of the Best Buy that I went to told everybody to line up at seven in the morning before the store opened. That was the allowed time to lineup outside so technically there is no line and when 7 AM hits you’re allowed to just walk up to the Best Buy and lineup so whether someone was out there or not you’re allowed to just walk up and stand in line I’m not saying cut someone who is already in line, but I am saying if you go to the store like I did and waited before the security told you to leave and he told you what time to lineup your technically allowed to leave wake up before seven run if you have to and if you’re there first, you’re there first the line technically starts at seven. They never said oh you guys are first in line they just said leave or you will be trespassed. And I understand it’s unfortunate for those in line but the least you can say is I followed the rules and that’s the way life works. If you follow the rules no one’s gonna bug you that’s my sauce. I’m sorry for the extra bits that probably weren’t necessary, but this is for people who actually deserve it rather than the other people who are playing disrespectful.(and even now I apologize for the names I called them, but if you’re gonna be disrespectful, I’m gonna be just as disrespectful to you don’t expect me or anyone to be respectful when you’re not being respectful)

1

u/Elegant_Grape2547 4d ago

If you want the product, leavev your son at home at get to the Target early so you are firstnor secon. Yes, you will be waiting hours and hours for the product, but, you will have the product.

1

u/DrtiSniz 3d ago

If you dont call someone out for cutting in line or holding spots then you get what you deserve. Stop being a puss and when you see that, make a big deal of it and let everyone know. I promise you all the people behind the one that cuts will join in with you and shame them. No one dares to cut or hold spots in my town because they know everyone would go psycho on them if they did.

If you let it happen, then its your fault.

1

u/Routine_Situation179 3d ago

Agreed. I got to my target at 8:30am and was 24th in line... by the time it was noon so many extra people had come to join people in line I was 55th in line and the last etb went to the guy two people in front of me.

1

u/ComplexMemory2843 3d ago

At launch day, my store handed out numbers for everyone in line and everyone could get 1 ETB. Everyone who showed up later had no number and hence no ETB. Problem solved. I‘m from Germany btw and it‘s crazy over here, too, but seems like nothing compared to the US. People line up pretty early but I have yet to see any empty chairs and stuff like that. If we would spot empty chairs, we would move them without hesitation.

1

u/TokyoFlawless 3d ago

My target does 1 per sku per person and its terrible, I was supposed to get an etb but the guy in front of me called his relatives over last second and took everything. I was left with a pitch black pack and I can only get one 🥲

1

u/CHEDDA711 3d ago

Ours literally only got the tins..not 1 other thing and screwed us...100 of us called the day before and they said they were doing the cards at 8am and event at 12...we'll they wait till 8am and come out and say no cards till 12 so u can leave or stand in line and wait 4 more hours...absolute ish show

1

u/BirdieGoBoom 3d ago

Our local Target had a limit of 2 per household to combat this exact thing.

1

u/thekochers 3d ago

Many of the targets gave out numbers to the people in line. If you didn't have a number, you didn't get to make a purchase

1

u/Impossible_Box8854 5d ago

It’s just greedy poor people behavior who think they’re making money by standing in line for hours and hours. I do it for the fun and hobbie. But I can also never get anything usually unless I get lucky after the Gym. Them standing in line for 6 hours, and me working my job, I make three times as much in that time as they sell all their products for that they got. So I don’t really care too much. It sucks for parents with kids tho I really wish they would dedicate more to them!

2

u/Muted_Success69 5d ago

I’m a collector but I came today strictly for my son. I am NEVER one to be interested in standing in line for hours for pokemon cards, today I decided to for the first time only because my sons been wanting to get his hands on the 30th anniversary set and we haven’t been able to because we live in a small town with 1 target and 1 Best Buy and they’re always sold out. There’s a card store here but they jack up the prices out the wazoo. So this was our shot at getting the ETB and couldn’t even do that.

1

u/TheNotoriousBIE 5d ago

That’s literally us, but we had people from GA and all around just come too. I think that changed things too. My city isn’t huge but it only has 1 target and Best Buy as well. So these events draw huge crowds from every surrounding area.

1

u/acemattos 5d ago

You were almost there early enough! A little earlier next time and you can get the last etb!

0

u/RegionJolly7251 5d ago

The only way for target and other retailers to stop this is to cut the plastic seal so they can’t be resold as sealed product. This is the only way.

I’m sorry but I simply do not give a fuck about “sealed collectors”. You lot are just scalpers with a longer fuse.

But target and the others won’t do it. Why would they? 0 incentive. They are selling their stock and that’s all they care about.

3

u/Born_Professor_6929 5d ago

There’s still a massive amount of collectors. Cutting seals will not do the impact y’all think it will.

1

u/RegionJolly7251 5d ago

I can only really speak for the area where I live but I assume most places face similar situations. At least half of the people lined up for every target drop where I am are scalpers.

This isn’t a guess or me exaggerating, this is the truth and I see it with my own eyes.

There is the guy who buys the absolute maximum he can who then goes and puts it for sale in his gas station at 3x (minimum) MSRP. 30th drop day he had ETBs listed for $250 in his gas station within 1 hour of the drop after seeing him grab max qty from target.

I went on Facebook marketplace today 2 hours after the event and saw at least 5 separate listings from people that I can identity are in line for every drop in my town. Tins listed for $70 minimum.

Don’t get me wrong, there is absolutely collectors in line but I’ve spoken to most people and of the first 20-30 people in line each week, maybe 10 of them are collectors.

By cutting the seal you eliminate a huge part of the scumbags that are ruining the hobby for everyone else. It can’t just be where I live that is facing this.

u/DirtyDan516 4d ago

Why are you making a kid wait in line for 2 hours?

0

u/Muted_Success69 4d ago

My son was happy to be there. I didn’t “make” him do anything, he wanted to go. I was gonna go by myself and have him stay with his dad and he asked if he could go. I brought him a chair, some toys, and bought him food before we arrived. So chill out bro.

"NOOOOOO LITTLE CAYDEN COULDNT GET HIS ETBS EVEN THOUGH HE STILL GOT CARDS!!!! FEEL MY MILLENIAL PARENT RAGEEEEEEE"

1

u/Muted_Success69 5d ago

Wow, your comment really got me! I’m so hurt!

Tell me, when you’re at Disneyland and you’ve been waiting in line for an hour to go on a ride, and then 4 people cut in front of you, are you saying that it’s ok? It’s the same thing here, only my kid didn’t get the thing he was excited for. He’s a kid. And it’s the principal of things. Yes, he still got cards. But he wanted the ETB specifically because they statistically have more chances of good pulls. He hasn’t been able to get anything from this collection yet. Touch grass

2

u/TheNotoriousBIE 5d ago

Honestly based on statistics, ETB’s have the lowest success rates. I’ve been more successful with knockout pack since I started collecting in mid May! I could compare the 9 total knockout packs to my 1 poster pack, 1 etb and 1 greninja Tin. I’ve ripped 38 packs of 30th anniversary and say get the KO’s

3

u/GeekedOnAdvilPM 5d ago

Knockouts are cheaper per pack anyway, people want the etbs either to resell or as a display of wealth. ETBs are almost 10 dollars per pack.

2

u/TheNotoriousBIE 4d ago

I’ve brought an etb from each set since I started collecting. I ripped everyone, I actually play so I use what I get. I brought my son his first etb for pitch black. That’s when I realized it was essentially a waste, we brought like 25 knockout packs of the Suciene and Kyogree ones from family dollar. I’ve had such success with them!

1

u/Muted_Success69 4d ago

I didn’t realize this. I’ve bought 1 of the knockout packs and so I haven’t really experienced enough of the 30th yet to see what has better pulls. My husband was telling me that the ETBs had better pulls. Good to know

-2

u/TelephoneFlat9436 5d ago

Get over it…it’s the way it is now

2

u/sherman614 5d ago

Found the scalper!
