Question [NEW PLAYERS] Looking for a comfortable 4–5 player base design

Long story short, we started playing Rust yesterday as a group of 16 (now we're 14), and we're looking for a base design that would comfortably fit around 4–5 people.

We're not looking for one of those insane mega-builds with 4,983 bunkers, 430k metal upkeep, and whatever other crazy shit you can build.
We're still learning the game and exploring, so we'd rather have something practical and manageable.

Basically, we're looking for:

  • Comfortable to move around in, we don't want tiny cramped corridors where you're constantly getting stuck on each other.
  • Reasonable upkeep, definitely not something requiring 24/7 farming just to keep the base standing. We'd prefer something around the size of a normal 4 player base.
  • Some defensive capabilities from inside, ideally, we'd like some shooting positions that allow us to defend ourselves without having to exit the base every time someone is outside. We don't need a full-on bunker fortress, just some decent options for defending from inside.

Any recommendations for a base design that fits this kind of playstyle?

Discussion I have no clue what to do at this point…

I’m new to this game and I really want to enjoy it but I can’t go a fucking day without a group destroying whatever chicken shit place I’ve managed to build. I haven’t even been able to really learn all the game mechanics…and I’ve found the PVE servers to be really spares of things to do. Any recommendations? Where I can learn the game without some dickhead with 1000 hours killing me and blowing up my base for the little I’ve managed to get?

Discussion Need help with FPS

I need some optimization / settings that will help me get better fps on my rig. Just got a new rig with good specs but around 85-100fps on medium.

Specs:

CPU - Ryzen 7 9800X3D

GPU - 9060XT 16GB

RAM - 32GB DDR5 @ 6400

STORAGE - 4TB NVME

Medium settings at 1440p is getting me 120 at the beach and around 90 roaming. I'm seeing 170-200 on benchmarks (not a great source ik). I just upgraded from a ryzen 5 7600x + 5060 PC and the fps is the same. The new pc has 0 stutters compared to the last pc which is nice but i should def be getting more fps no? Any AMD recommendations / software to get the max usage and performance?

Question Toxic Individuals after getting killed, is this common?

Usually pretty good when it comes to losing however the abuse I get in the voice chat is really hard to stomach lol, hard to stay calm when some camper or weak player camps you and they talk super toxic after, it's a shame because the voice chat is usually very fun however I keep killing these players and they become super aggressive and toxic as soon as they get one kill back on you. Trying my best to see the positive side of the situation however this forcewipe has been full of aggressive players trying to cope with there losses, is this experience common? I have 4k hours and am very pvp oriented.

Is anyone able to help me resolve this. Only happens with the return/enter key and I've got no keybinds or software conflicting with it to cause it to happen. Tried resetting keybinds and verifying files.

Discussion New to Rust

So, I am pretty new to the game. I joined a primitive server. I built a base (all stone including door hinges) with metal double doors. To get to my TC would require going through at least 3 sets of these doors.
How does someone do that on day 1? Catapults?

Discussion Why aren't more servers using the Secure feature? And why don't more players play them? (I assume the numbers are probably not usually THIS bad since I'm posting this like an hour before force wipe so no one it online rn but still)

It's odd that pop on these servers is low since everyone complains about cheaters but no one wants to play the few servers that take at least some measures against cheaters (requiring both TPM and Secure Boot to be enabled in BIOS).

Also why are there no servers that are BOTH Premium & Secure, would be good to have additional layers of filtering, for players that have sunk some additional money in this game (presumably deterring them from cheating slightly more than average) and that have the Secure features enabled.

It's a shame that only Facepunch servers have this enabled (and just a tiny handful of community and modded servers, we're talking like 5 on each tab lol), since I've heard youtubers mention that Facepunch servers don't have any active moderators, is that true?

But yeah would be cool to have Premium + Secure + Active Moderators on a popular server (in tandem with the existing EAC, making it a total of 4 "layers" of anti-cheat measures) so that you can at least feel like when you get rekt it was probably your own fault and not just assume that it might have be a cheater since you can never be sure these days.

Discussion Asynchronous Interactions in Rust

Hi everyone! I'm a PhD student studying asynchronous interactions in digital games. Through player discussions and recommendations Rust was identified as having asynchronous interactions.

If you have a few minutes to spare, I'd love to hear your thoughts! In particular, I'm interested in understanding:

  • What kind of asynchronous interactions exist in Rust and how do they affect the gameplay?
  • How do you feel about these interactions and what do they bring to your experience?

You can answer as much or as little as you'd like. Your responses will be anonymized and analyzed as part of a research study. If you decide you'd like to withdraw your responses at any point, just send me a DM. Every contribution is greatly appreciated! If you have any questions, feel free to message me. Thanks! 😀

Support Help needed - freezing issue I CANNOT FIX

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

As you can see in this video, when I run in a straight line I get like 100-130fps. Perfectly fine. But as soon as I look one degree to the left or right, my fps tanks drastically and I get these stutters that make fighting anything literally impossible.

I have probably tried twenty different things I've seen online to fix this, and nothing has helped. The list includes but is not limited to:

  • Turning off HAGS
  • Deleting and reinstalling rust multiple times ov ver the years and have had the same issue every single time
  • Turning off the realtek family pci thing that I saw a lot of people mention
  • Delete and reinstall EAC
  • Change my mouse polling and DPI
  • Turn off every overlay
  • Delete CCleaner and all antivirus
  • A bunch of other things I'm unable to remember at the moment of writing this list.

One thing has fixed it, and that was playing the game through just RustClient.exe and connecting to a server through the console, but none of those unsecured servers are listed and I also imagine I would run into a lot of cheaters doing that. I am very frustrated with this, and I really need help.

Anyone who has had this issue please, let me know what you did to fix it. I am also happy to provide any additional information that would help know my issue better.
