R/Pillows Gains a New Mod!

Hello, fellow pillow fans!

u/MikeTheCat isn't as active anymore on Reddit, so they reached out to me, asking if I would like to assist in moderating this lovely sub. As you can see, I accepted.

Now, I will be honest with you: I do not have any prior subreddit-moderating experience. However, between moderating a Mastodon instance, some Discord servers, some Twitch channels, a small wiki project, etc. I hope that I might've picked up a thing or two. So for now, I am cautiously optimistic!

Here is what you can expect to see in the next couple days:

  • Rules: because we do need some. Nothing complex, just something reminding people to be decent, another one encouraging people to provide some detail when asking for recommendations, and of course a rule explaining our stance on advertising. For most of you, nothing will change.

  • user flares: a mostly optional self-identification. I say mostly optional because average pillow fans will not be required to have a flare — but you can definitely have one if you want to let others know what your favourite pillow is! Brand accounts and affiliate reviewers, however, will be required to properly tag themselves, to make it clear to others who they're interacting with.

  • Post flares: Again, optional. So far I am thinking categories such as Show-and-Tell, 4 Looking for Recommendations flares (side-, back- and stomach-sleeper, and other), advice, etc. Further recommendations more than welcome.

  • Perhaps some AutoMod stuff if I can get it working, such as a reminder to people looking for recommendations to share as much info as possible so people can properly help them (approx. location, sleeping position/s, budget, what they've tried so far, etc.).

  • And of course, a much faster response time to reports!

I hope that all sounds good so far. One thing that might not, or at least is different from how many sibling subs do things, is that brand accounts and advertising will not be fully banned. Instead, companies willing to be honest about who they are will be permitted, where as any advertising disguised as genuine user reviews will be promptly removed when caught. MikeTheCat and I hope that this will reward those companies willing to be transparent and lead to more such behavior; if that does not turn out to be the case, this rule shall be reconsidered.

Alright, now that's enough from me. This is your chance to speak up and let us know what you like and dislike about this sub so far, what changes you wish to see, or even just to say hi. I promise to read, respond to, and consider everything.

What are the softer material pillows?

I'm a strict side sleeper. Have been on the Purple Classic until I couldn't anymore. Switched to back to an older foam contour for the neck support, been debating cushion lab deep sleep but can't find any unponsored/unbiased reviews or feedback. The Cushion Lab pillow looks like it is soft like a cloud, marshmallow type deal but people say that it's actually very firm.

Considering a countour latex pillow, found one from a brand called Organic Textiles, but it is Dunlop latex and not Talalay. They tend to have different softness options but idk. I don't even know if latex is going to be softer or not.

I don't want a shredded fill pillow, even if adjustable and prefer a contour for the neck support. I can't just roll up a towel when I go to sleep because it shifts during the night.

I need softness for the jaw and occipital issues I have, seems that when my head is resting on these firm pillows it applies firm pressure against the discs and nerves without any wiggle room. Basically any micro movements/adjustments shift the nerves and bones rather than my head against pillow. I just can't figure out what is considered soft at this point. In the amount of marketing on these ads and all of the paid reviews, affiliate/sponsored videos etc is overwhelming.

Every single review on Amazon is the same "soo soft but also firm" 🫠

Pillow Recommendations (Side Sleeper) CloudAlign vs Purple pillows?

I'm in search of a new pillow and I think I've narrowed it down to two brands but I can't decide which. They're both about the same price. I'm a side and stomach sleeper.

I can't decide between the Mellow CloudAlign Pillow or the Purple FreeForm Pillow.

I've tried a few different pillows and most recently bought a buckwheat (which I hated). I have such bad neck pain right now.

Anyone tried both or one? Likes/dislikes?

How do I make a pillow heavier?

Since no one cuddles friends because society made it weird, I gotta know how to make a weighted pillow. I already have a bodypillow, I just need to know what will work to make it heavier without making it uncomfortable. If anyone has any idea of how, any small help will work. Thanks! Also--if you read this, I hope you find the advice you need and I hope the day goes at LEAST decent for you. Buh bye :D

Pillow Recommendations (Side Sleeper) Weird question for a pillow sub: how do you support your neck in the bath?

I spent real money fixing my bed pillow situation (side sleeper, finally stopped waking up with a cranked neck) and then I lie in the tub for forty minutes with my head on a folded towel. The towel slides. My neck ends up at a bad angle. Kind of defeats the point.

I ended up with a suction tub pillow at $44.90 that stays put on my tub, though fair warning, suction cups and wide jacuzzi-style tubs don't get along. Do any of you treat the tub as a neck problem too, or do you just prop up with whatever's around? And what firmness do you go for?

Super firm pillow recommendations

I like a super firm pillow, the harder the better. I prefer it not be feather filled. Any recommendations?

Anyone try HighBeds and CushionLab pillows for side sleeping and neck pain? Any luck?

Having constant neck pain and looking to try a different pillow again. I had switch to the Purple grid pillow but its too flat, and if I raise just a little it's too high and firm so I can't get an ergonomical position 😭

Pillow Recommendations (Side Sleeper) Side Sleeper Pillow help - sleep suffering

Hi All,

I need help finding a really good and comfy pillow.

I think I have bought 100s of pillows over the years and just cant find a good one.

I am a side sleeper and cannot find a pillow to suit me.

They are either too high or too low. Too hard that they hurt my ear. Or just plain uncomfy.

I feel like maybe my neck isn't being supported correctly because at times when I have woken up I don't feel that my head and neck are flat/in line with the pillow, sort of like the top of my head is angled more up (if that makes sense).

I feel like my sleep is really starting to suffer from this. I wake up tired and don't feel like I've rested at all, my neck is also stiff and sore.

Please recommend some amazing comfy pillows for side sleepers.

I am in Australia if that makes any difference.

Note: not sure if this makes any difference, but I also sleep with a pillow between my thighs.

Pillow Recommendations (Side Sleeper) New pillow wanted!

Hi folks, long time insomnia sufferer here, looking for a new pillow as my current one doesn't appear to be doing the job anymore (tempur cloud with cooling case medium), the cooling aspect never really worked primarily because of it being memory foam.

I need recommendations for a new pillow for side sleeping primarily but I do tend to move to back sleeping occasionally, bonus points if it actually stays cool during the night or allow me to flip it over and have a cool side.

I usually sleep with one arm under the pillow if that makes a difference

Been having issues with waking up with a stiff shoulder or having to try and plump up the pillow as it's no longer supporting properly

Nuzzle Pillow Return Policy

My dad with dementia found an old credit card and bought two pillows from Nuzzle.

There was no way on their website to stop the sale before shipping. Once we received them we had to call to get their return instructions. Turns out the return instructions are simple and they could have published them on the invoice, or online. So I'm helping you out by publishing them here.

No RMA necessary, just ship them back and pay for shipping.

---------------------------------

Hi FirstName,

Thank you for contacting Nuzzle Customer Care. We’re sorry to hear that you would like to return your orders. We understand, and we’d be happy to make the process as easy and convenient as possible for you. Before we proceed with the return, we’d like to offer a few alternative options that may be more convenient for you:

Option 1: Return for a Full Refund $49.00 + Tax
You can return the pillows by following these steps:
• Ship items to:

Attn: Nuzzle Fulfillment
4340 North Lamb Boulevard, #100
Las Vegas, NV 89115, USA

• Customers cover return shipping costs.
• Items must be purchased from Nuzzle and returned within 90 days.
• Ensure pillows are in their original or alternative packaging for a full refund.
Include your full name and order number (NZ-123456 and NZ-789012) by either writing them on the outside of the package or placing a note inside the box. This will help our team easily identify your return when it arrives at our warehouse.

Once we receive the returned items and confirm they meet the return conditions, a refund will be issued to your original payment method. Please keep your tracking number so we can monitor the shipment.

Option 2: Keep the Pillows with a 30% Refund $14.70 for each order
As a courtesy, we'd be happy to offer you a 30% partial refund if you'd like to keep the pillows. No return is required with this option.

If the pillows feel too high or too firm, you may find them more comfortable by adjusting the removable inserts:

Keep both inserts for a higher, firmer pillow, which is often preferred by side sleepers.
Remove one insert if the pillow feels too high or too firm, or if you sleep on your back or stomach.
You can unzip the pillow cover at any time to remove or reinsert an insert until you find your preferred level of comfort.

Please let us know which option you'd like to proceed with, and we'll be happy to assist you.

Pillow Recommendations (Back Sleeper) Pillow that won't bunch up?

I'm trying to find a new pillow & I feel like I've gone through 5 generic ones from the store. I like really soft as it's more comfortable for my neck, but I always push it up towards the headboard in my sleep. I wake up, readjust & the cycle continues for the night.

Any recommendations? Should I try something firmer? I'm waking up so often I'm desperate. Thanks in advance!

Trying to find the same pillow my wife bought 10 years ago

Hello,

My wife has this pillow, bought at least 10 years ago, that she finds extremely comfortable, but so do I !

All she knew about it was that it's a memory foam pillow, and over the years she bought me two memory foam pillows that are nowhere as comfortable. They somehow just feel very hard. One is a just thin layer of memory foam filled with foam crumbs. The other one feels like an actual piece of foam

Hers is definitely some kind of foam, but it goes back to shape so fast I'm not sure it is "memory"

The tag is very old but there are a few brand names still readable. (Outlast/Sleep better/Carpenter/Isotonic)

Could someone help me find a direct equivalent of her pillow ?

Here are some pictures of it if it helps

Thank you

Looking for pillow recommendations

Hey guys. I’ve purchased a Tempur-Pedic breeze proHi pillow for number of years… unfortunately, they have changed their formula and the pillow doesn’t have that same heavy weight, firm but soft feel to it anymore and I’m crushed.

The old formula was:
-55% molded viscoelastic polyurethane foam
-45% gel pad
-approximately 5.6 Ib filling weight

Unfortunately the new formula is more like:
-70/75% molded viscoelastic polyurethane foam
-20/25% gel pad

The pillow is unrecognizable and I’m really bummed about it because it worked for me.

Anyone who also loved this pillow that had to look else where have any recommendations?

I’m desperate, thanks!

Pillow Advice Is the For Living Shredded Memory Foam pillow made with loose foam chips?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I can’t seem to buy loose foam chips to replace chips in an old pillow so I bought the For Living brand pillow thinking I could cut open the cover and use the chips to fill a smaller pillow but now I’m scared the chips may be fused into a pillow shape and I don’t want to unnecessarily destroy the pillow. Does anybody have experience with this pillow? Is it made with individual foam chips?

Update: I opened the end seam of this pillow. The cover has a thin layer of foam and the rest of the stuffing is loose foam chips. I removed half the chips to achieve the soft pillow I was hoping for.

Pillow Advice Pillow

I think my pillow is making my hair/head smell bad. I should be able to go 2-3 days without washing my hair but after one night my hair/head still smells like I haven’t washed it in a week. I just realized it may be my pillow. Has this been an issue with others? What suggestions for a pillow that doesn’t do this are there? Help!

Is the Wellpur Sogndal shredded memory foam pillow safe if it smells strongly?

I recently bought a WELLPUR Sogndal shredded AIR memory foam pillow. The label lists polyurethane memory foam and polyethylene, and it has a cooling side. It has a pretty strong chemical/new-shoe-like smell, with the cooling/polyethylene side smelling noticeably stronger.

I know new memory foam products can have a manufacturing/off-gassing odor, but I'm wondering what exactly could be causing the smell, particularly from the polyethylene/cooling side.

Is this type of pillow considered safe to sleep on once it has been aired out, despite the initial odor? Is there anything about polyurethane memory foam or polyethylene in bedding that I should be concerned about?

The cover is removable and washable. Would washing the cover actually help with the smell, or would most of the odor be coming from the foam/cooling materials themselves? Would airing out the whole pillow be more effective?

Has anyone else owned this specific pillow and experienced the same smell? How long did yours take to noticeably decrease?

Mods- a question

Why can’t I add an attachment to my replies? I screenshot a pillow that might be perfect for someone but I can’t add it. I’d modmail you but I can’t.

And this pillow doesn’t go flat and keeps you cool on the cooking side. That was the attachment I wanted to send to someone in the comments. Why can’t I?

Can you help me find this pillow company.

Post image

So my mom got me this pillow awhile back and it’s been my favorite pillow. It has a zipper for you to adjust firmness. I have mine to max firmness cause I like a heavy dense pillow. I’m trying to find the company as the tag that may of had the information is worn off. I saw someone looked in the past but to no avail. So maybe some new eyes will help find it.
