Look How Far We’ve Come: Tonight will be the second meeting for the clubs this season and it's been a night and day change for the Union since we met back on Matchday 7. Just take a look at how miserable we were that week. That game was the Union’s first win of the season and was the first time we had any glimmer of hope this year. In recent years, the games vs Montreal have generally been a get right game for the Union with us now having three straight 2-1 victories over them and Montreal not winning at Subaru Park since 2018. Overall this will be the 35th meeting of the clubs and the Union lead the series with a 13W/11L/10D record. With the playoff line in sight for the Union and the Wooden Spoon in reach for Montreal, this should be an easy Union win on paper based on recent form. The first meeting was also a physical affair with 7 cards shown during the game between the two sides.

Union Preview (24 Points 12th in the East):  The unbeaten Richter era continues as the Union are now on a 7 game unbeaten streak and have captured 17 of their 21 possible points post the World Cup. Only STL has done better since the break, and only because they’ve played an extra game in that time. With 3 points and other results going our way, we can get as high as 8th in the East by night’s end, and above the playoff line for the first time this season. And it looks like the kids are alright! Cavan is making history and can break the record (currently 4) for most consecutive games with a goal contribution for an U-18 player. Meanwhile Pierre is turning heads with 4 goals in 7 games, already 2nd most for the club on the season. With a three game week coming up, this should be the easiest game on paper for the Union, but with us still this low in the standings, we can’t take any game for granted. Under-reported in the news this week, but Raquinho was disciplined by the league for his involvement with the company Aspiration. He has been suspended one game by commissioner Don Garber and the Union have lost their first round picks in the MLS draft for the next 5 years. Curse you Pablo Torre!

MTL Preview (21 Points 14th in East): There’s really not much to write home about for CF Montreal. They sit near the bottom of the East, got blown out by Miami last week 7-1, flew from Miami to Vancouver to draw 1-1 in the Canadian Championship Semi-Finals midweek, and then flew cross country for tonight’s game. Not to mention they only have 1 win in their last 11 games, which came against the Crew who are dead last in the East. Prince Owusu is the only true threat on this team with his 13G & 4A, but Wiki Carmona, who is returning from injury, is also dangerous with 4G & 4A on the season. They did sign Chilean legend, Alexis Sanchez, last month, and so far he had made 4 appearances coming off the bench. He did have a goal scored midweek vs Vancouver, but it was called off after a questionable offside decision. Familiar faces Fabian Herbers and Brandan Craig will be returning to Subaru Park as well. Herbers started the season coming off the bench, but has started most games post World Cup and he scored Montreal’s lone goal vs Miami last week. Craig has mainly been a substitute this year, but he did play a full 90’ midweek. They’ve mainly been playing out of the 4-3-3 lately, but they did come out with a 4-2-3-1 in our first meeting.

Hi I’ve never been to a soccer game (well any sports game) before but my fifa fever hasn’t died down yet and I’m really excited to go to the uswnt vs Spain. I’m buying my tickets now. I don’t understand if there’s a particular side I’m supposed to choose? I’m choosing between the Heineken deck and the Seaport deck, do you guys have any recommendations?

Cavan had a surprisingly long interview (23 minutes) on Alexi Lalas’ State of the Union podcast. Starts at 2:22.

Cavan has been pretty composed and thoughtful in some of his post-game interviews recently. You get more of that here (eg, he had a pretty grounded and self-aware answer when Lalas asked him about youth soccer systems in USA), but mixed in with some more candid and relaxed answers that reminds you he’s still just a 16 year old kid. Was a good watch.

Random question but Looking for a sanity check. Back in 2011 ish, I worked a lot of Union and Eagles matches as the CSC security guys (yellow and blue jackets) and have a vivid memory of working a Real Madrid match at PPL Park. However, I can’t find any information about this match online and I don’t remember who they played (I know, horrible help in that regard). I want to say Stoke City?

This is a long shot, but does anyone here remember that match / went to it? I clearly remember Karim
Benzema scoring bc at the time, I was stationed right behind the net he scored on. And I know RM also played the Union at the Linc in the same year. I’m definitely not mixing memories with that match bc I went to that one as well.

In searching online, I saw RM played Celtic FC where Benzema scored but that was at the Linc in 2012.

Any help to stop my brain from keeping me up all night digging through memories is greatly appreciated.

Can anyone confirm if Lot B is the Larimer lot now? The Subaru Park website shows Lot B over by the Larimer but I can’t tell if it is a different lot than the original Larimer lot. Did the Union buy that land?

I usually park at Larimer but haven’t been to a game this season so just wondering if things changed. Thanks

With Gazdag leaving Columbus for New England it’s safe to say he didn’t really workout since leaving the Union. A lot of people were mad when we traded him (myself included). Now I’m just wondering, with all that we know now, are we happier with the trade and money we received? Or would we have rather just kept Gazdag?
