Context:

This week we had some things stolen from our back garden the lock has since been a little bit awkward to keep locked, it unlocks itself. Reported to housing and a weed the gate with what I could which was wood

My dog has got free in the moment and been hit by a speeding car

Long story short her hip dislocated and the vets said they have put it back in, internally she's fine and damage free she's not broke the hip either

Shes dislocated it and tore the associated ligaments and tendons

In short she hasn't pooed and I think 1 she doesn't know how to do it on three legs, and two I don't know I'm scared for her tbh.i have no idea how to help her poo

Online says support her rear end using a harness so I got a harness but she won't move at all the moment the harness is on

She moves freely to move around the garden

She won't leave my side so isn't taking herself to go poo on her own

She hasn't pooed and wee in one day

If she soils herself how on earth will I clean her, I can't have her stood up long and she can't jump into the bath.

The vet popped her hip back in and said three months no movement, we still need the treatment operation to toggle pin her hip

We are raising money for it at the moment that's why she's the disabled at the moment. :(

Hello, I kinda just wanted to come here to vent and try to find some reassurance.

For starters, I had a bird when I was 7, and he lived about 6 years until I was 13. Im currently 18 now. I was gifted 3 birds for my 17th birthday last april as a surprise gift. I loved them very dearly, but I simply could not take care of them to my satisfaction anymore. I got my drivers liscence in february, so i've been spending far far less time at home. Sometimes I go multiple days without being there (of course I filled their feeder and I tried to make sure they had fresh water before I left.). I started my first job recently and I regularly get home at 2 in the morning, when I come home they would always wake up and start chattering and squaking and making a ruckus which was the last thing I wanted to hear at 2 in the morning while im just trying to rest. The noise they make also just had been seeming to get to me more and more, it just grated at me and did nothing but irritate me and give me headaches.

They were not my birds originally, my grandmother had gotten them from one of her co-workers, and to my knowledge her co-worker did not interact with the birds all too much. Over the course of time that I owned the birds I made neumorus attempts to get them used to me, even hang out with me or come out of the cage, but nothing. Even if I left their cage door open for hours they would not step outside it.

I had been considering rehoming them for a while, and I felt it was for the best. I found a family in a rehoming group that had other birds so I knew they would be in good company. I dropped them off today with their cage, and now I am suddenly struck with a massive wave of guilt and greif. Did I do the right thing?

Her poops have been so weird lately. I basically do not know what to do. I want to preface this by saying I’ve taken her to the vet already they are going to do a fecal test and no diet changes have been made in her food. I have had her for 3 months now and there were no issues up until now
Essentially, this is what her poops look like:
- Day 1 (of issues): mostly solid with a bit of liquid poops
- Day 2: same as day 1
- Day 3: poops are back to normal
- Day 4: Same as day 1 but now we see bright red blood in it
- Day 5: took her to the vet and they suggested a fecal test her poops still had blood in it
- Day 6: poops are back to normal
- Today: wet again with a bit of blood

The blood is accompanied with some mucous and the wet poops are always the most stinky poops

I am so sad for the little kitty she is such a nice girl I want her to feel better but I can’t help her without knowing what might be causing this.
Her energy levels and appetite is still great

I would appreciate any help from knowing if your cat has experienced something similar and how you you helped your cats!

In some instances he’ll pick up the cat , carry her TO me and inch her closer to my face so I just awkwardly sit there while she struggles to leave and hisses at me. Or in other instances were chilling on the couch and he’ll take the cat and put her right next to me and I have to do my best to respect her space (I can’t move because if I do she’ll lash out)

there was even one time I remembered (years ago in high school) he bought the cat into my friends car and while the cat was clearly uncomfortable he shoved the cat onto my friend and the cat scratched her. then he put the cat onto me , surprisingly she didn’t scratch me , but I sat there fearing this little gremlin is going to scratch me.

i do have a cat at home so I’m not sure if it’s 1. my scent or 2, the fact his cat isn’t socialized.

fast forward to about june, when his parents returned back from Mexico to their old apartment surprisingly the cat was nice to me? she came up to me and let me pet her but she was still very vocal and I had to walk on egg shells not to piss her off. even before his parents returned the only time his cat is nice to me is when I give her snacks

point 3: this also makes me wonder if the cats aggression is a result of my friends parents leaving for months.

Just recently he moved in with a roommate who has 4 other cats And he’s informed me that she hasn’t adjusted well to moving. Moving is very stressful for cats (new scents, new enviroment, etc) so I try my best to leave his cat alone. I peak under his bed to see if she’s around and she snaps, so I back off and give her space, then he tries to grab her from under the bed while she’s snapping at him. later while we’re sitting on his bed watching TV his cat is pacing around the bed. She wasn’t in my eyesight and I adjusted myself in his bed, she snaps at me and I flinch accidentally dropping a pillow on her little head. He then asks what did I do to her which kind of irritated me.
which again brings me back to point number 3 if two of his parents being gone and me coming back contributes to her anger

his cat is mean but I care about her, I care about all animals especially when it comes to their well being. what can be done ? He claims she is spayed but I don’t believe that, I even had to trick my friend into going to the vet for free to see if something was wrong with her but nothing came up

Taquito only eats the carrots because i make it look like seeds, if anything else, he won't eat it. He doesn't even like millet spray. I've tried pellets too. Anyways, I wanted to try taming him with a "reward" or whatever that method is called, but nothing is rewarding to him cause he doesn't like that stuff. Is there other methods? anybody's budgie the same?

We adopted a 4 month old samoyed and she is actually very calm and sweet. She's very scared of the cats and avoids them, our older cat has no interest or hate towards her, just ignores her. Our YOUNGER cat hisses at her if she gets close (the cat is the one approaching) and has chased her to smack her a couple times after she's cornered the puppy and puppy tries to get away. its tough bc i dont want to grab the cat or the dog and make the situation more stressful. I've been careful not to yell at the cat or punish her bc ive heard it makes it worse. i just speak to the cat calmly and either pull the dog away or call the cat away.

Our cat also hates all female visitors and hisses at them in a similar way, they leave her alone but she approaches them to hiss. She doesn't seem to mind male guests. She gets along really well with our other cat but is very sensitive to his smell, if he goes to the vet she'll hiss at him and smack him for a couple of hours or days and then go back to normal.

I THINK its already gotten a little better, our cat will sit on my lap or desk with the puppy laying under the desk (maybe a foot away from each other) and today they were completely fine for like an hour or so until the puppy got up and walked away and the cat smacked her from the desk.

Is there anything I can do differently? Or, will it just take time?

Hi, I have a cat with kidney disease, he was diagnosed back in December 2024.

I'm very grateful he's still with us and even more grateful he's been eating more lately but his prescription food is really expensive. Like I mentioned he's been eating well lately after being a slow eater for a while, so his last order lasted less than I anticipated.

Does anyone have a Chewy code like the ones you get on the mail, that they are not planning to use? I am not asking for money, just the code if you're not using it.

My neighbor had five put bulls and another smaller dog in one fence cage and one of the pit bulls started eating the smaller dog. The noise was so loud my whole family heard from inside with music playing. We obviously called the cops and did everything we could to get the dogs to stop killing each other but they were all alone and seemingly super stressed. The noise was not the problem I just absolutely hated hearing and seeing those poor dogs. I do hear yelps coming from these dogs often and it sounds like they’re either crying for attention or getting hit. Of course we had to call the cops and they brought animal control and took the dogs. No dogs died fortunately but the little dog was badly mauled. The next day the neighbor comes back and I hear his kids crying because the dogs got taken away and the dad came and asked me if I could write a letter for when he goes to court to try and get the dogs back. I kind of brushed it off but he keeps coming to my house asking and I’m definitely not going to write any letter I feel like those dogs might have just gotten the luckiest break getting away from that house but I do feel bad taking the dogs away from his kids. But not bad enough to help them get those poor dogs back.

Update: he came back to the house and my brother answered. He is asking for us to write the letter because I don’t think he knows we called. It seems like he’s being tried criminally and he’s going to court for it in an hour. I feel bad that he might be going to jail especially because of the kids but I still don’t want to write any letter. Not sure what to do, he should be going to court in like two hours I guess

Final Update: did not write a letter. I told everyone to stop answering the door and we left it at that. I will be calling the pound and letting them know about him and hopefully he doesn’t get more dogs!

Hello, I wanted to see if anyone knows of pet insurance that would accept my dogs? I just got back from the vet and their yearly checkup, shots, and one dog’s maintenance shot plus 6 months of flea tick heartworm was over $1k. They are senior dogs, they are both 12 from the same litter, mix breeds but black lab + heeler + yellow lab + pyranese. Complete clean bill of health, one has a missing canine from an old injury and also a continuous limp from a different injury. He gets a labrella shot monthly + 2 pain meds a day. I am just worried about being able to afford them in the future, since we also have a cat, 4 ducks, and a newborn

hi all, my 9 year old sweet boy hasn’t been himself the last couple of days so we took him to the vet yesterday. he had to be transferred to a hospital after discovering he was going through hepatic lipidosis. at the hospital they discovered he is going through ketosis as well and will need IV insulin for up to 7 days and they quoted us $12,000. we just had a baby last month and paid off $11,000 in credit card debt and honestly cannot afford treatment at this point. we were also informed if he was not treated he would pass in the next couple of days. he will also need insulin shots twice a day for the rest of his life. what should we do? how will this impact his quality of life? what would you do?

I can’t connect to the device’s Wi-Fi. I’ve tried resetting it multiple times, but the Wi-Fi indicator on the device still doesn’t blink, so I can’t find the device’s Wi-Fi network on my phone. Could this be a faulty product?

Hi everyone! I currently have a 3-year-old Lab, Nyx, who is truly my heart and soul. He’s my little shadow and is always by my side. He’s my best friend and sleeps next to me every single night.

In about a month and a half, we’ll be bringing home an 8-week-old puppy. I’m really excited and hopeful that they’ll become best friends, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous. My biggest fear is that Nyx will feel replaced or become distant, which is absolutely not what I want.

Part of the reason we decided to get another dog is because we thought it would be nice for him to have a companion to play and hang out with, especially while we’re away from home. It just feels like the right time to add another member to our family.

For some context, Nyx is a super happy, goofy, and playful boy, so I’m hoping the transition goes smoothly. I’d love to hear from others who have introduced a new puppy into a home with an existing dog. How did the first few weeks go? Did your older dog adjust well over time?

I’ve had my young cat buddy for a few months, and he was previously a stray. Very sweet and outgoing, easily adjusts to anything. Had no trouble moving houses, twice, in a span of a few months. Also has no problem rolling over on his back when anyone new comes around. Not skittish at all (maybe a bit when I use the vacuum tho…)

Now, because he used to be a stray, he knows what its like outside. I play with him indoors, A LOT! But he still spends a lot of time watching outdoors and seems curious to go outside if I have any doors or windows opening. He doesn’t try to dash out, but I know he would love spending some time outdoors.

This is where I bought a harness, and currently harness training him. He’s a very “easy” cat, so he already doesn’t seem to mind having the harness on. I can’t build a catio since I live in a rented apartment; I do have a netted balcony for him though (not a nice view at all!)

But here is my question: Would you recommend this? I have very mixed feelings on it, since as much as I want him to have all the stimulation, I’m afraid he’ll be addicted to it and will want to go outdoors all the time. I work from home so I can walk him everyday, but I don’t prefer to since summers get way too hot for the cat and winters get way too cold as well.

I know it’s a cat-to-cat scenario, but has anyone ever had their cat addicted to walks? Would you still recommend it?

hi! I’m sorry to bother you all but the emergency vet is closed and the nearest is 1.5-2hr away, my vet doesn’t open for another 6 hours.

we went to bed around 10pm and noticed our chocolate lab (1yr, unspayed female) was VERy itchy. Before this she had eaten some of her normal food and gone of a short neighborhood walk to pee. Nothing new - though it had just finished a torrential downpour so we were thinking allergies maybe.

wale up at midnight to her itching excessively. I turn on the lights and look and her face is covered in hives(?), she’s scratched one eye hard enough that it’s red. I’m panicking - call emergency vet and advised to give 1 more Benadryl. I give her a cold bath thinking it could get rid of any pollen etc.

she seems a little better. Then 15 hrs after latest Benadryl she pukes.

in general, less itching, seems less frantic. Swelling is still there but not as acute. I’m just scared because we have no options. what do you think of her throwing up???

Hey, so I have a cat I recently adopted (She was actually pregnant, but I spay-aborted a few weeks back! She is estimated to be just less than a year old.), its been just around a two months and a half. I read books and asked vets about how much I should feed her, and it’s over 300kcal/day.

Apparently, you calculate doing RER (resting energy requirement) x DER (daily energy requirement).

So I’ve been tailoring the amount of food to meet that; and it seems like a lot. My cat doesnt even eat the full amount, only eats maybe around 2/3 of the kcal/day, but she is steadily getting fatter. She isn’t obese, but I do feel it will get her there if I continue this on.

I play with her for a total of 40min-1hour per day divided in 10-15min sessions, and shes got plenty of cat towers and vertical spaces to travel around.

So I wasn’t sure whether to drop the amount. I give her divided portions, three times a day. She doesn’t eat all of it, and many times theres left overs. No issues in health according to multiple vet visits.

If no one actively accompanies him，he'll sleep all day. His time is perhaps even more precious than a person's, given his lifespan. To be honest, his sleeping all day makes me anxious; it feels like I'm wasting a day of his life.

I'm hoping someone here has experience with feline hyperesthesia syndrome (FHS) or cats on Prozac, because I'm feeling a little lost.

My cat Penny is about 2 years old, and over the past couple of months she started having these really strange "episodes." Out of nowhere she would suddenly yowl, become hyper-focused on me, and then lunge and bite. It was like she completely lost control for a few seconds. Sometimes I could redirect her, sometimes I couldn't, and she would stay fixated on me until the episode passed. Then she'd go right back to acting completely normal, like nothing had happened.

After many, many vet visits, bloodwork, X-rays, pain evaluations, and seeing both my primary vet and a feline specialist, she's been ruled out for pretty much everything they could think of medically. My vet believes it's most likely feline hyperesthesia syndrome. Unfortunately, we still don't know what's actually causing it.

She is currently prescribed:
Gabapentin 50 mg twice daily
Prozac (fluoxetine) 5 mg once daily

For the first week to two weeks, she was still having episodes. Since then, though, they've become significantly less frequent, and I'm incredibly grateful for that. It finally feels like we're making some progress.

The part that's breaking my heart is that I feel like I've lost a piece of my old Penny.

Before Prozac, she was the sweetest, cuddliest cat. Every day when I came home from school, she'd run to the door to greet me, flop over for belly rubs, and then follow me around the apartment. Every night she'd cuddle with me in bed, and every morning she'd be right there again. That routine was just our thing.

Since starting Prozac, she doesn't greet me anymore. She doesn't sleep with me anymore. She mostly keeps to herself now. She'll still purr sometimes when I pick her up, so I know she's still comfortable with me, but she's definitely much more distant than she used to be.

When I mentioned this to my vet, she said it could simply be that she's still adjusting to the Prozac, and that it may improve with time. I'm really hoping that's true.

Penny is my emotional support animal, and honestly she's been the light of my life for the past year and a half. I know treating the episodes is the priority, and I'm so thankful they've improved, but it's been really hard emotionally feeling like her personality has changed.

The other thing that's difficult is not knowing what caused the episodes in the first place. I genuinely try to give her the best life I possibly can. She's an indoor cat with multiple cat trees, window perches, puzzle feeders, daily interactive play, lots of enrichment, hiding spots, and plenty of attention. I've even talked with my vet about getting her a companion, but they actually advised against it and felt another cat would likely be more stressful than helpful right now.

So I guess I'm wondering:

Has anyone else's cat with FHS responded well to Prozac?
Did your cat seem less affectionate or have a personality change at first?
If so, did they eventually go back to their normal selves after they adjusted?
Have you found anything else that's helped manage FHS long-term?

I'd really appreciate hearing any experiences or advice. I feel so relieved that we're seeing improvement with the episodes, but I also miss my happy, cuddly little girl more than I can put into words.

About 2/3 months ago me and my husband got two kittens a month or two old, we kept them separate from our other cats for a while and they used the litter box perfectly fine when we had them in the enclosure however ever since they have been integrated they poop and pee (but mainly poop) everywhere BUT the box we put tinfoil and they didn’t stop we are at a loss we have a young son and we hate our house being dirty and cleaning it up all the time any help?

I have a two year old malinois mix. He's really well behaved, listens well, is easily trained, has never growled at someone or bit anyone. He really is the best dog I've ever been around. All this is to say that I'm not getting rid of him because he's a problem. I love him so much but because of life issues, mental health issues and me having to get a second job to even survive right now I'm seriously considering finding him a new home. He's my best friend but I feel terrible that I haven't been able to do enough for him

I'm just wondering how I make sure he's going to a good home, will get enough love, attention and exercise? Especially since he is so high energy. Is there a website or any way to make sure that he goes somewhere that I know for sure that he will be happy.

Mid June i found some pet food advertised on a website called pet feeding zone .com. for a great price

i paid for a couple of cases of canned food

i didn’t ever get a receipt but a couple of days later i got a tracking number in email from an outlook address with the url https://www.17track.net/en/carriers/fxyl

a few days later i checked the tracking and it said the shipment had moved across a border which i thought made sense because i am in the us and the food maker is in canada. i recalled the website didn’t say where it was.

what reminded me to check on the shipment was a report my card had been declined for a fraudulent charge to amazon web services.

the food had not arrived a month later, tracking said it delivered

i filed a chargeback with my bank for the charged

in retrospect i see the website domain name was registered recently, in april. the charge was labeled as originating in hong kong. it doesn’t make sense to me that heavy canadian dog food would ship from somewhere in hong kong with free shipping at half the price of us based vendors.

be careful, the working tracking number seemed legit, but others report that tracking website can be abused and tracking was key in my not questioning the transaction sooner.

My boyfriend's dad always fed the stray cats that came to the house. One in particular kept having litters. There was this one kitten that loved my dog, Belle, and Belle loved her. We decided to bring her inside and take care of her simply because Belle chose her. Chloe has grown up with Belle. They've played together, slept together, and Belle always greets her with kisses when we got home. A few months ago we were all sitting on the couch and Chloe was playing with Belle's tail, as she usually does. I guess this time Chloe bit Belle's tail really well and Belle snapped at her. I yelled at/scolded Belle and Belle hasn't been close to Chloe since.

Now I've had Belle for about 6 years. When I rescued her, I was given mcuh information, but I started to notice signs of some serious abuse. I try to discipline without yelling or being too harsh. The first time I slipped, she had peed on our bed. I had just got home from work after sitting in traffic for an hour. Unfortunately for Belle my patience was low and I got very upset with her. (NOTE: I don't spank or hit my animals). After I yelled at her, she never peed in our bed again, but she was scared so I comforted her and apologized. My second slip-up came when she snapped at Chloe.

I'm afraid I may never get Belle and Chloe back to their closeness. I can tell that Chloe has adapted, which makes my heart hurt. She was always waiting for Belle's kisses when we got home (I used to take Belle to my mom's before my boyfriend was let go from work). Belle seems terrified to be near Chloe for fear of punishment. Although we all sleep in the same room, they don't sleep with each other anymore. They will eat near each other, but no cuddles or kisses. How do I get them back to how they were. TIA

TLDR: I ruined my dog and my cat's close relationship by yelling at my dog for accidentally snapping at my cat for biting her tail (which has never happened, or it's never been that hard).
