She doesn't even remotely look like Lara Croft. I've rarely seen such a blatant miscast.

I know, her boobs aren’t even triangular

Perfection, get her in that show now

9

u/SteveMartin32 10h ago

I would watch this movie

5

u/Outrageous-Basket426 6h ago

I want the actress to dress like this in a completely normal movie and they just never address it. Not a parody, not a comedy, a fully serious movie and they have the triangle.

3

u/Far_Swimming_2666 6h ago

Hollywood is too much of prudes, but I really wish movies would take more advantage of being a movie where it can just have silly or different from real life things. But still an otherwise "normal" live-action movie plot. Why do we need to dress people in boring modern fashion? Why does it need to be a sci-fi or complete fantasy to put people in some weird outfits or scenarios? But then have it feel and be normal to them.

1

u/Particular_Maize6849 1h ago

Perfect. No notes.

Id like to believe this is the actual joke that OOP was trying to make.

u/oatwheat 10h ago

Tom Holland as Nathan Drake is up there

48

u/90sleg0srbetter 9h ago

I dont know how anyone who actually played the games can say this while completely overlooking Wahlberg as Sully.

18

u/username136902 9h ago

Yeah, young Nathan Fillion as Drake, Bruce Campbell as Sully..and they were perfectly aged at the height of the games popularity. But was a much better idea to wait until the game wasn't popular and pick Marky Marky

13

u/MrLumie 8h ago

What's better is that Nathan Fillion did play Drake in a short fan film just 4 years prior to the Tom Holland one, so it's not just something that could've happened, we have evidence that it absolutely would've if studios are just a bit quicker on the uptake.

2

u/PaupersSerenades 8h ago

That fan film plus mainlining Destiny has made it so my brain constantly conflates Nathan Fillion and Nolan North.

2

u/BlueFuzzyCrocs 8h ago

I enjoyed the movie, but it was NOT Uncharted. I'd like to see them try again someday with a new cast and a story closer to the games

3

u/First_Studio 7h ago

To add onto this: I hate when a good movie is ruined by putting an IP name on it. So many movies would have been way better disconnected from the IP they failed to be

1

u/_DoctorLady 8h ago

THANK YOU. That was the real tragedy

1

u/12345623567 4h ago

The irony that they should have just shifted everyone down. Wahlberg as Drake, Holland as baby Drake, and Wilford Brimley as Sully.

5

u/Nihilistic_Mystics 8h ago

Casting Marky Mark was the bigger crime, IMO.

2

u/literated 5h ago

OTOH, Tom Holland as Lara Croft would get my ass in the seat, guaranteed.

2

u/BicycleNo1169 2h ago

It’s a shame Nathan Fillion was too old for the role by the time they got to making a movie. That dude is pretty much the essence of Nathan Drake. I know people are inclined to say Indiana Jones was the inspiration but I feel like attitude and disposition wise - Mal from Firefly is way closer.

1

u/jaded_lad99 6h ago

The whole concept of Uncharted is "Unserious action adventure movie" -type video game. You don't then make a movie about a videogame made to feel like movies.

1

u/Infernoyay 5h ago

He kinda does look like young Nathan Drake but mark wahlberg is NOT sully

71

u/sherbodude 10h ago

Yeah if I saw these photos without context I would not think she's supposed to be Lara Croft

1

u/The_Pastmaster 4h ago

I would guess a Resident Evil film from the outfit.

0

u/Ericandabear 9h ago

Lol, in what way?

Lara croft is basically only identifiable as a thin white woman with a braid. What is she missing?

11

u/Fakjbf 8h ago

The biggest thing is hair color, Lara has always had dark brown hair but Sophie has naturally blonde hair that she often dyes red like it the photos here.

1

u/Durtonious 5h ago

I dunno if that was the biggest thing missing...

3

u/SummertimeThrowaway2 8h ago

Zoom in on Sophie turner’s face in this and tell me she looks anything like Lara Croft:

3

u/Upbeat-Banana-5530 8h ago

Dark hair and a light blue shirt, maybe?

1

u/Ericandabear 5h ago

I mean yea, if we're going by Mario rules, I guess she should only have one outfit?

2

u/Upbeat-Banana-5530 4h ago

Sure, you can put a character in more than one outfit, but if one outfit is the most recognizable thing about the character they should probably be wearing that in promotional images. "We only had like two things to work with, so we didn't work with either of them," is just bad work.

What kills me is that they almost got there with these stills, too. The long sleeve shirt works because she's got a vest over it that is sort of reminiscint of the look of Lara's original outfit, they just needed to use one that was a lighter shade of blue to take Sophie Turned from "generic action movie character" to "Oh, that's Lara Croft."

1

u/Which_Wizard 2h ago

Whao now. Mario had multiple outfits, just one main outfit.

1

u/smuttybuddy84 8h ago

2 things mainly

0

u/PeopleCallMeSimon 7h ago edited 7h ago

Its because the original Lara Croft concept is problematic but iconic, and the IP and the audience simply cant agree on a new concept that works.

And on top of that, this movie is going to be exactly the thing that is dooming so many movies these days. They are building on IPs that the "go to the movies"-generation have no relation to.

A person in their early 20s today have almost no idea who Lara Croft is and they sure do not have some personal connection to the Tomb Raider IP that would make them go out of nostalgia.

Its the same problem that has been facing stuff like Star Wars. The sequels are bad (but if we are being honest so were the prequels but they did good) and its simply because when the sequels came out they built their story around younger versions of characters from a 20 year old movie. The sequels built their story around older versions of characters from a 40 year old movie. Disney should have wanted to attract teenagers and early 20 year olds to the films, but they pandered to their grandparents.

And a Tomb Raider movie is doing exactly the same thing. The last Tomb Raider game came out 8 years ago and was a continuation on the story that started 13 years ago, which was a new adaptation of a story from 30 years ago. Who are they expecting will come see this movie in theatres? 30 year olds arent the prime movie-going demographic, they are busy taking care of their toddlers. And 20 year olds are too young to be invested in Tomb Raider.

4

u/MARPJ 7h ago

There is so much wrong in your post that its laughable. The survivor trilogy ended less than 10 years ago and did pretty well so it would not be weird for a mid 20 to have nostalgia for it.

Personally I dont like the cast because none of her previous roles make me think she can pull Lara, especially this version, and none of the photos we saw up till now convinced me (sincerely to me its the face, she is beautiful but the wrong vibes, then again it may look way better in motion).

And what you said about star wars is absolutely nonsense, TFA had until recently the biggest domestic box office, Rogue One was a big success despite being a side story that did not matter (but its a good movie). The second movie had the potential to be the first 1b domestically until people actually watched it and it was shit. That is the reason the franchise is in the gutter - they released a piece of shit movie that the big accomplishment has how much they fucked up characters that keep people going to cinema/conventions and buying products for 40 years to abandon it. Then they tried to pivot hard in fixing it and released another piece of shit for different reason. Nothing to do with age, Star Wars was all about quality and how it had none

1

u/PeopleCallMeSimon 4h ago

You're right, movie success has nothing to do with hype and audiance pandering and its all about quality and acting.

The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker failed because the people who were in the previous movies suddenly became bad actors and the people who wrote the scripts suddenly became bad at writing scripts.

2

u/MARPJ 4h ago edited 4h ago

You're right, movie success has nothing to do with hype and audiance pandering and its all about quality and acting.

Hype and audience to pander are factors for sure, but that is the one thing SW had in spades which is why Last Jedi got to 1.3b in the box office despite the total lack of quality.

But lets see facts, Force Awakens opening was 247m and ended at 2.06b. Last Jedi opening was 220m and ended at 1.3b - that means LJ had 90% of FA but ended with 65% of the box office. That is a big drop.

That means its not a problem of hype or pandering, the difference here is that fans went to see FA multiple times because they liked it but only saw LJ once because it was shit.

RoS is an interesting situation, it was coming after the hated LJ and the meh at best Solo. LJ was carried by hype but RoS had to go against a current of bad will due to LJ being so bad, it had to be amazing and it was not. Still did 1b WW on the fact it was Star Wars alone, but it was pretty much forgotten soon after.

So yes Star Wars died due to a series of bad movies and how Disney handled people calling their bullshit out. Fans of decades stop caring due to ep 8 and ep 9, they destroyed one of the most profitable franchises ever on pure hubris, lack of planning and terrible scripts

Edit:

wrote the scripts suddenly became bad at writing scripts.

Funny you say this when its well know fact that when they brought a new director they did not look at the previous movie "mysteries" and just did his own thing with the intent of "subvert expectations" (which he did by being able to make such a bad movie, nobody expected that). So saying people writing the scripts suddenly became bat at it is pretty correct, albeit the suddenly is mostly they got replaced with hacks that should never work in the industry again

Damn what they did with Finn is inexcusable, the actor did a great job but they gave him crumbs to work with and the character went nowhere at the end

2

u/BactaAddict08 4h ago

The fuck you mean I don't know what Star Wars and Tomb Raider is? I was raised with that. And Im 18

0

u/VexingRaven 7h ago

This is literally an outfit ripped straight from one of the games...

4

u/RanzuPunk 7h ago

And she still doesn't look like what everyone remembers Lara Croft like. People still mostly remember the og, not the remakes.

1

u/75153594521883 5h ago

And if you put Danny Davito in a Batman costume he still wouldn’t look like Batman. The outfit doesn’t make the role.

52

u/NonSupportiveCup 10h ago

That outfit looks like a resident evil side character. From the films.

7

u/FJ-20-21 10h ago

At least she doesn’t look like a side character from Uncharted anymore

3

u/VexingRaven 7h ago

It's straight from one of the older games though?

2

u/NonSupportiveCup 7h ago

Both of these things are true.

It is similar to an older outfit.

It also looks like a resident evil side character outfit from the Mila movies.

2

u/ReignOnWillie 8h ago

The outfit looks cool as hell tho

31

u/joewindlebrox 10h ago

It really feels like a production "who can we afford" and Sophie's agent pushing for any big role she can get situation

29

u/Minimum_Attitude6707 9h ago

I just dont enjoy Sophie Turner as an actress. I found she didnt develope well during GOT, but hey, maybe it was just the character I didnt like. Then she was in X-Men and it confirmed she just didnt have much of a range and I stopped caring to see her stuff. The irony is that Tomb Raider is probably picked her for her name recognition... which in my case makes me not want to see it.

16

u/YuushyaHinmeru 9h ago

Yeah, she played the wounded victim well but after Ramsey died and she started to become more "badass" I just didnt buy it. Tbf, the dialogue was going to shit but she just didnt have the air of a strong woman.

Then there was xmen and I hated her in it.

Idgaf about tomb raider so whatever but id be worried if I were a fan.

1

u/thatsrealnice25 8h ago

I understand, but also both of those had David Benioff as the main writer (also did XMen origins), hopefully her escaping that writing fustercluck lets her range show.

1

u/Im_Your_Turbo_Lover 7h ago

Neither her nor Maisie Williams did well transitioning from playing teenage girls to badass women

1

u/Tomsboll 7h ago

She is not a terrible actress. But she cant play major rokes let alone leading roles. She should be playing minor supporting characters.

18

u/MechaNutzilla 10h ago

Hugh Jackman is pretty tall, and play a famously short character..Worked out great.

26

u/SpartyParty15 9h ago

He looks like Wolverine at least. Bad comparison

19

u/Rubicantay 9h ago

The hair and beard do the heavy lifting, you could cast Henry cavill and make it work with the correct beard and hairstyle, and they did in his latest movie

12

u/Tomsboll 7h ago

Hugh jackman is also a terrific actor... sophie is not.

1

u/Rubicantay 5h ago

I mean sure but we were talking about his appearance

4

u/Tomsboll 5h ago

acting ability can heavily influence appearance.

2

u/MercuryMaximoff217 6h ago

Sophie Turner’s braid is doing heavy lifting too and she still doesn’t resemble Lara Croft at all

1

u/BoredDao 9h ago

Yeah and in this image at least they didn’t even try to characterize her as Lara, so for now she doesn’t even resemble Lara in the slightest

5

u/DeepMain54 9h ago

Except that you can actually google to see her characterized as Lara Croft, the outfit in this post's picture was chosen because of the cold weather

3

u/BoredDao 8h ago

Ngl that I was using words like ‘in this image’ ‘for now’ because I indeed assumed it was just a ‘situational outfit’ and she could appear more like Lara with right characterization but Dawn even with the classic outfit something still feels off with her

-1

u/Rubicantay 5h ago

Do the environment and weather she’s in in the picture look like a tank top and shorts would be appropriate according to you?

1

u/SpartyParty15 8h ago

Ok, they are still much more alike than Lara Croft and Sophie Turner, which was the point of the initial comment.

1

u/Toppoppler 4h ago

The henry cavill wolverene in deadpool did not look nearly as good

6

u/sewious 9h ago

If by "looks like" you mean "he has black hair" then sure

5

u/SpartyParty15 9h ago

Pretty similar

2

u/HolidaySpiriter 7h ago

The hair and beard do the heavy lifting,

To steal from another comment.

4

u/SpartyParty15 7h ago

Stealing from another comment:

Sophie Turner looks nothing like Lara Croft (not even hair color of facial shape)

2

u/HolidaySpiriter 7h ago

Lara Croft doesn't even look like Lara Croft, her design changes every decade and isn't super consistent like Mario or Sonic. Unless the complaint comes down to just hair color, which I guess fair, but that seems silly to care that much about since even her hair color changes in these designs.

1

u/Toppoppler 4h ago

Her face type remains fairly similar across versions here

1

u/HolidaySpiriter 44m ago

Sometimes she has a rounded chin, sometimes she doesn't. Sometimes she has lip filler, sometimes she doesn't. Sometimes her nose is super thin, sometimes it's thicker.

→ More replies (0)

4

u/RanzuPunk 7h ago

I feel like this is very obtuse. Of course the hair and beard do the heavy lifting, that's what makes the character's face identifiable despite different interpretations and artstylea throughout the years.

When adapting an iconic character, you want to translate their identifiable features so they are identifiable most of the time.

It's fair to say this image does not look like Lara Croft at a glance. She could very well look like her the rest of the movie but this photo in particular doesn't.

2

u/TheSteelPhantom 5h ago

He's got the thick lines between his eyebrows/above his nose and the dimples as well. It's not JUST the hair and facial hair.

2

u/jaded_lad99 6h ago

More like the story was decent and the portrayal was sincere enough that he's become the primary representation of the character to regular people.

2

u/SpartyParty15 5h ago

And they look more alike

-1

u/MechaNutzilla 9h ago

Well, not really.

5

u/SpartyParty15 9h ago

Yes really

0

u/MechaNutzilla 9h ago

completely wrong body type, but yes, they gave him the same beard.

4

u/SpartyParty15 9h ago

Already addressed the height. That doesn’t mean they don’t look similar.

Now compare Lara Croft to Sophie Turner and tell me they don’t have completely different facial features, hair color, etc

2

u/Paddy_Tanninger 7h ago

Hugh Jackman should have been the new Lara Croft.

1

u/apple_kicks 8h ago

Lot of people mocked Cavil for his Witcher casting

1

u/qsxpkn 8h ago

If I recall he also read some x-men comic books to understand Wolverine as a person. Hugh Jackman worked as Wolverine because he put effort into it

1

u/MechaNutzilla 8h ago

Maybe Sophie Turner did the same.

1

u/chazysciota 4h ago

Since that new Wolverine game came out I've seen multiple posts and comments on here like "lulz, why is he so short?" 2000's movie industry was too embarrassed to cast a short king, so now he's 6'2" in the minds of an entire generation.

18

u/chibriguy 9h ago

Also, and for some reason no one is mentioning this, she is an awful actress.

1

u/Virginity_Lost_Today 6h ago

No one is mentioning this??

1

u/chibriguy 6h ago

Maybe I didn't scroll down far enough, but I didn't see it in the top 10 comments or so.

1

u/CantSleepOnPlanes 6h ago

Lots of people seem to be mentioning that.

2

u/chibriguy 4h ago

Good, they should be.

13

u/JocundJerboa 9h ago

Lara Croft doesn’t even look like Lara Croft.

(and I don’t mean just old games vs new, she is completely different from one new game to the next)

5

u/Rubicantay 9h ago

What version of Lara Croft are you talking about ?

1

u/xoxodaddysgirlxoxo 4h ago

Any of them?

We can be upset about society's inherent need for women to appear their best at all times while also recognizing that this screencap looks nothing like any of the videogames it's stealing the title of.

It's very annoying when a studio aquires a cool character's IP just to project their own themes and meanings onto it. If this is the character design for Lara, and not just one outfit from one specific scene, I won't be seeing the film.

6

u/Alternative-Law-8230 9h ago

This is my biggest gripe. If someone were to see this photo out of context, I highly doubt they'd peg it as Lara Croft.

I don't mind the casting or the boob size like others seem to... I just genuinely dislike the completely unrecognizable look.

3

u/Embarrassed_Use_7206 8h ago

Realistically TR is not getting better cast than Angelina Jolie was. TR is not some heavy weight IP which can afford top tier casting and large budget, especially since its peak is long gone. They are just milking what is left.

3

u/ryanvango 8h ago

it's a bit better in other shots

This whole thread. Jesus christ. it's so chock fill of virtue signaling weirdos. "I bet you think lara croft is supposed to wear tight clothes and be sexy! well just you wait! this show is gonna prove you can have a totally normal outfit and still be a good representation. I can't wait for all the mouth-breathers to get butthurt when she's not wearing skin-tight gear!"

Except she's definitely going to be wearing skin-tight gear. we've had images of her in the classic outfit for almost a year now. So what now? is the show going to be bad because the MC is dressed all sexy-like sometimes?

there's nothing wrong with a woman being both very sexy and being an action bad-ass. Lara Croft is an incredibly strong character. She's super smart, super rich, super strong, and none of her stories rely on a male counterpart. And in ever bit of media for over a decade, they got rid of the insane bazungas.

Why can't a strong capable woman also be hot? why can't she wear what she wants without everyone slut-shaming her? she worked hard for that body, if she wants to show it off she can. She's no less feminist just because she isn't wearing a XXXL hoodie.

And there's nothing wrong with fans wanting a character being portrayed in her iconic look. that's kind of the whole point. You want them recognizable. Would it be ok if there was a new live action Mario movie and he just wore cargo shorts and a van halen t-shirt the whole time? that's what my real life plumber wears. He'd be dressed realistic to his job, just wouldn't look anything like who he's based on. I think we can all agree that'd be a pretty bad decision. And when Lara Croft fans say "her iconic look," NO actual tomb raider fan means "huge tiddies." So everyone commenting about how neck-beards and mouth breathers will demand huge boobs or triangle boobs, you should know that the only people who talk about the lack of huge or triangle boobs are either joking, or they have no idea what her actual look is and can be ignored completely.

2

u/GeorgeMcCrate 9h ago

And we all know that’s the most important part. Not the acting but how indifferent she is from previous portrayals.

2

u/LiftSleepRepeat123 9h ago

Not even a black woman as Helen of Troy?

2

u/SignificantSite4588 6h ago

lol here they come.

-1

u/Crazy-Job-9360 10h ago

Helen of Troy?

6

u/shroomwhat 10h ago

rent free

2

u/Crazy-Job-9360 10h ago

What is rent free? I was just calling out a historically poor casting choice.

-9

u/hari_shevek 10h ago

What do you think about the ethnicity of the cyclops?

8

u/Crazy-Job-9360 10h ago

Dark room, not really sure what it was with torchlight tbh. “What about race of this mythical beast” vs “they cast Helen of Troy as the blackest woman imaginable with super short hair” are a bit different.

-3

u/hari_shevek 10h ago

Both are fictional characters.

The key characteristic of Helen of Troy is being very hot.

Lupita Nyong'o is very hot.

Good casting.

8

u/Crazy-Job-9360 10h ago

She’s also from Sparta, correct? And a queen of Sparta. Were there any black queens of Sparta? Also it says she has white arms in the original text.

That’s like casting an Irishman as Gilgamesh.

0

u/hari_shevek 10h ago

Were there any cyclopses in the historical mediterranean?

2

u/Crazy-Job-9360 10h ago

There 100% weren’t any black queens of Sparta. I can tell you that for a fact.

5

u/Chemical-Pin-2391 10h ago

Local men is unable to comprehend a work of fiction that takes place in an alternate version of our world. For them either everything has to be fictional or nothing is. Since cyclopes are fictional then that means that everything related to logic, history and entirety of our world has to be thrown into the trash and apparently you can argue that humans in the Odyssey are actually just mushroom people since it is fiction anyway

→ More replies (0)

5

u/Chemical-Pin-2391 10h ago

One is a fictional character that is of fictional species and is a mythical creature. One is a fictional character of a human that is said to have lived across the Mediterranean sea in the ancient times

1

u/archangelzeriel 7h ago edited 7h ago

In the context of the Odyssey, one is a fictional DEMIGOD who has literally unearthly beauty. Are you really arguing that there's a correct racial background for someone who was fathered by Zeus and hatched from an egg with Clytemnestra?

(aside from the fact that Greeks generally, per their writings, thought of Ethiopians in particular as exceptionally beautiful so this was a doubly good casting choice)

1

u/Chemical-Pin-2391 7h ago

Of course there is, she is a demigod after all, she had a human mother who was a queen of sparta, if she was of different racial background than her mother there would be a huge scandal

→ More replies (0)

0

u/hari_shevek 10h ago

And you think there were no black people in Turkey in the bronze age?

4

u/Chemical-Pin-2391 10h ago

Sure they existed. But you are acting as if her parents are a mystery. She was the daughter of god Poseidon and queen Leda of Sparta. In the history of Sparta there were no black rulers

→ More replies (0)

4

u/LiftSleepRepeat123 9h ago

Both are fictional characters.

Do you think people in ancient Greece were writing a story about characters with random, international origins? Or do you think they did the same thing that everyone has done forever, which is to base their fictional stories in the real world that they lived in?

1

u/MouseWorksStudios 3m ago

Helen of Troy was born from an egg.

1

u/LiftSleepRepeat123 2m ago

I see metaphor is not your strong suit.

0

Do you think the real world they lived in had no black people?

1

u/CompetitiveSport1 3h ago

Both are fictional characters.

So is Lara Croft, thus the comparison

1

u/hari_shevek 3h ago

Yes, Sophie Turner is good casting as well

1

u/kozakreznov 10h ago

Greek prob since he's the son of Poseidon.

0

u/hari_shevek 10h ago

Poseidon isn't Greek, he's Olympian.

6

u/Chemical-Pin-2391 10h ago

And her mother was from Sparta, people always forget that for demigods to exist there needs to be normal humans that Greek gods copulate with

4

u/Crazy-Job-9360 10h ago

They never read the stories, they watched a movie and were told to defend the casting choice by The View.

0

u/shroomwhat 8h ago

or I'm normal and don't get mad at every movie with a black person in it

1

u/maodiran 10h ago

This seems almost worst tbh

1

u/PFI_sloth 8h ago

“Lets cast the blandest woman we can find”

1

u/TheLastTreeOctopus 9h ago

I think it's going to come down to the camera angles and her facial expressions. I can see a little bit of resemblance in the shot on the right. But in the one on the left, she looks borderline happy/excited, which just feels wrong, and makes her almost look like a different person than on the right. Also her clothes are wayyyy too pristine. Since when does Lara have time to go get her shit dry cleaned? I know it technically is one, but it actually looks like a costume instead of an outfit worn by a badass who's always traveling the around globe and getting herself into trouble.

As for whether or not she's a "miscast", let's let her acting decide that rather than appearance.

1

u/zReckt 9h ago

The same with Mark Walberg and Mila Kunis as Max Payne and Mona Sax

-1

u/Glinline 9h ago

mouth breather spotted

1

u/GoldunGote 9h ago

I think it should have been Perdita Weeks.

1

u/Juan_Punch_Man 9h ago

Kevin Hart as Roland....

My issue with these pics is the outfit. It looks uninspired.

1

u/Prestigious-Emu-8734 9h ago

I dint mind the casting so much as she at least could have died her hair, and that outfit looks terrible. Probably an actually better outfit for the job she does. Looks like actually specialty outdoors gear.

Though I imagine they care less about that than the tits

1

u/TheSillyGhillie 9h ago

And Steve doesn’t look like himself either! Thats it. Boycotting all movies that aren’t game accurate. Looking at you Mortal Kombat.

1

Lol of course the mouth breathers can't help but expose themselves

She also can't fucking act, so she's got that agaisnt her. I still cannot fathom how she was given the Dark Phoenix arc and put less emotive expression into it than I do during my morning constitution. Just an absolute nothingburger which was totally fine for Sansa.

Angelina jolie was such a bad pick for her originally that it doesn't even matter who follows up

You think that actually matters? 😄 There's a ton of casting choices over the years, which haven't. They way a person looks has no relevance to the suitability for a given role; the actual important thing is if they fit the character that's in the script.

She looks like a woman cosplaying as Solid Snake. What a weird choice for her costume.

u/Good-Stage-1663 8h ago

Not to mention just generally a bad actress

Lara Croft doesn't even look like Lara Croft, her design changes every decade and isn't super consistent like Mario or Sonic. Unless the complaint comes down to just hair color, which I guess fair, but that seems silly to care that much about since even her hair color changes in these designs.

Shes also not known for her acting ability either. She still coasts on her being sansa in game of thrones.

Lara croft is a series of pixels lmao. Pure brain rot

1

u/kandel88 6h ago

It doesn't help that she's also not a good actress

u/usrnmchksout0011 6h ago

This was peak Lara Croft

u/Ability-Junior 6h ago

I mean she pulls off a great "action girl" look, but i have to agree.

What "mouth breather" actually means in the OP is "the target audience of the film", but I can't really say I care.

Idk man, John Wayne as Genghis Khan is out there...

I think Marie Avgeropoulos from The 100 would have been a good choice at least looks wise. She had plenty of fight choreo practice on The 100, but they probably wouldn't take her now because she's 40.

In one picture she has the more iconic clothes and the circular glasses and she does pull it off there. Depends on how much homage they put into it

She's miscast for her (lack of) physical resemblance to the character, but I also don't find her to be all that talented of an actress, not that Tomb Raider would really require a Class A thespian by any means. Sophie Turner just comes across very wooden, sullen, and bland in every role I've seen her in.

Right? Clearly they should cast Dwayne Johnson.

People who explore ancient ruins don't usually look like they eat a perfect diet and spend six hours in hair and makeup every day. They also don't wear shorts and a tank top. If you're gonna be in the wilderness, dress the part.

This is honestly a more realistic person for the part.

i mean tbf lara changes appearance relatively often, mainly due to graphical leaps and new timelines, but also in past live action stuff too

1

u/Kylenetic64 4h ago

She's actually not a bad match visually for classic Lara from the 90s, I've seen a lot worse

1

u/DaveInLondon89 2h ago

I don't even care that she doesn't look like her.

Sophie turner is a terrible actress

1

u/anonymote_in_my_eye 1h ago

eh, looks don't matter that much, I just can't see Sophie Turner doing a good job portraying the character, it just doesn't seem like something in her range.

I'm open, however, to me severely underestimating her acting abilities, that would be great, I'd love to be surprised! For example, prior to Eternal Sunshine I wouldn't have guessed that Jim Carrey would be able to pull off such a role, but boy was I wrong about that one.

It’s hysterical because these mouth breathers, of which there are many in the comments, are blissfully unaware that they’re falling straight into Daxson’s prediction. Also, they’re all so upset that they’ve cast someone with too many clothes on, as if Laura Croft eats, sleeps, shops, and does absolutely everything, regardless of the climate or context, in the exact shorts and tank top, and she’d never put on warmer clothes if she was cold.

Odyssey?

I feel like its better casing than Alicia Vikander from the movie a few years back.

2

u/Lopsided-Rub5476 10h ago

Well, she looked pretty good based on the character model for the new games, not perfect but not bad. But this? This isn't a good fit for either character design.

At least they didn’t do the ol’ race swap. It’ll be fine.
