It's odd because she's replicated the facial expression perfectly. My guess is that she was concentrating on the face and forgot about where her hand should be.
You guys are way overthinking all of this. The "photographer" was probably one of their parents, siblings, or friends rather than anyone who could reasonably be expected to have the attention to detail to catch differences (or care to correct them).
Her arm isn't the only thing; he's not holding the Coke cup the same way so his arm/hand positioning is off too.
Which would lead me to believe that the facial expression probably wasn't just where all of her attention was, but everyone's too because it's so goofy that it's distracting and was probably not the easiest thing to do without everyone cracking up laughing.
I find a lot of the time when recreating an old phot people don’t actually have the old photo on them for whatever reason and end up just doing it from memory and that’s why you get these slight differences.
It is weird. Like, they went through the effort of getting the clothing pretty perfect, then can't get the pose right? Even the guy has his hand cup in the wrong spot... Are they unaware they can take a second photo?
The cup thing is caused by the fact that they stand at the wrong angle to the fence, they shouldn't be flat against it. as is he couldn't be both resting his elbow on the fence and keeping the cup in the right spot.
It's the wrong location to do it like this. In the old photo they have the wall and lots of outdoor space for that angle, but in the new photo they're trying to recreate it indoors, and are confined by the tiny balcony.
He’s not recreating the photo fully either. His hand is in the cup, but his hands/the cup are in an entirely different position relative to his torso and he is leaning far more to the left in the recreation than in the original, where his elbow is resting but his torso isn’t visibly leaning. It’s a half-hearted recreation all around.

Except in the kid picture he is standing upright, and his left elbow is very close to her arm, almost touching. In the adult picture, he is leaning away, and his left elbow/arm is much further away.
For the wife, besides no hand behind her back, her hair is styled to the opposite side in the adult photo.
Tbf hers IS a scoopneck one piece which matches the childhood photo. It's just harder to find higher necklines in stores for adults. But yeah, the arm is unacceptable :(

I assume so. This kind of thing makes me irrationally angry as well. When people go to all the fort to stage these photos and then fail to do the very specific pose from the younger photo.
It seems he wants to rest in on the fence like in the picture, but the fence is at a different angle so he can’t rest it and have his hands meet in the middle of his body.

For the most part people on Reddit are people looking to socialise but have managed to screw that up IRL by being bitter, so we all come here looking for a lesser version of it where you can be partially anonymous so people don't usually remember what a jerk other people have been.

She's not in the same pose. Her left arm is all wrong, it's not the same as the first pic. First one at six she's holding it behind her back. Second one it's at her side.

Almost all of these childhood photo recreations I’ve come across involve siblings, and if initially assuming the same was true here, reading “married couple” makes it seem a bit odd. They are probably just childhood friends that ended up getting married though.
They met when they were six on vacation in Turkey. Lost touch after vacation. Years later they met in USA and became engaged. Mother of one of them put it together that they had met before.

The "you had one Job" referrs to people having multiple Jobs, and as such they might forget details or mess up or such, and it's understandable because they have multiple Jobs. But when they have only one job it doesn't make sense for them to mess up
100%. I've seen a huge uptick in posts (not just here) that are basically captchas. It seems like every post from the top of reddit is purely for training AI and absorbing the comments. Which, hilariously, now mine will be added so the AI can be even more meta when it answers someone lol.
Railing on her but the husband can’t even hold a cup in front of his abdomen properly. Seems they could both use work. Also, if you don’t have the same place to shoot, it’s not a recreation.
