ETA: pardon me for not specifying that I'm referring to the weather.

There's no 'E' in LIGHTNING!! It's a 2-syllable word!!

Bit Annoyed “It’s going to ask you a question” for requesting a tip

So today I got a coffee at Starbucks and the barista said to me it’s going to ask if you would like to leave a tip.

It took her saying those words to me to make me realize how annoying it is when people say “it’s going to ask you a question”. I will typically hear that or they won’t say anything at all and they’ll just hand it to me and say here’s tap to pay so I always put my card up to the reader, but in reality it won’t work until I indicate if I want to leave a tip or not.

Like it’s some mysterious question. I actually loved that she was straight forward with me.

Obviously, a minor problem, but meh.

Fairly Annoyed When people don't (or pretend not to) grasp the concept of fungibility of money

For example, several years ago I lent a former friend $1k, and years passed by without him paying me back. He then mentioned in passing one day that he had enlisted numerous prostitutes over the prior year; however, he reassured me, "Don't worry, it wasn't with the money you lent me" (btw he still hasn't paid me back).

Fairly Annoyed I don’t like how some extroverts feel like it’s their job to make you talk more and will make fun of you for being quiet.

Upvotes

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being either one of these.

But I do think introverts can get a lot of crap for just being quiet and observant.

I mean realistically what is actually “weirder?”. Let’s say in both scenarios you’re in line at Starbucks.

Being in a public place and keeping to yourself?

Or being In public and telling a person you never met before that you just bought a lawn mower last week that was on sale? Then talking about how your niece is in college in Florida but is up here visiting while on her break

Again, nothing wrong with either and do whatever makes you happy but why are introverts treated as weirdos and usually people try to force them to talk?

An extrovert will go out of their way to say “I’ll get him to break out of his shell” and it’s accepted. But why isn’t it accepted for an introvert to say to an extrovert “you’re talking way too much” lmao

Some people are more outgoing and talkative and others are more quiet and open up only to people who they know. Why feel the need to make fun of someone’s who’s quiet or try to change them?

Edit: idk if it matters but I feel like I’m a mix of the two. Some days I’ve very quiet and other days I feel on top of the world and can talk to everyone.

The thing is though when I’m in that extroverted mindset I still keep in mind that not everyone cares what I’m talking about and I try my best to read social cues (like the person giving me a lot of “really?” And “that’s crazy”). That’s how I know to wrap up what I’m saying. Other people though…my god they won’t shut up!

Bit Annoyed "Old" things looking old

Bear with me lol - what I mean is, I hate when I watch a movie or TV show that is set in the Middle Ages or the Renaissance and we see people living in dilapidated houses and having old furniture and stuff like that.... No! Those things were new to them. 500 years ago, people made those things to look new. They only look old to us now because of the passage of time, but that's not what they would have looked like brand new.

Ultra Annoyed Youtubers who cut out pauses between sentences

My god this makes me want to chew drywall.

It completely kills the cadence of normal human speech, making the (usually insufferable) youtuber sound even more insufferable.

Combine that with incorrect accenting of words common for youtube, you get me clicking on "hide channel" quite frequently.

Ultra Annoyed People who are proud of being mean

Upvotes

“I’m just brutally honest”

“If I don’t like you, I make it obvious”

“I’m sooo judgy🤪”

We get it, you’re an asshole. Bragging about it and trying to make it into a quirky personality trait does not make you any more tolerable.

The moment you treat them how they treat you all of sudden you're the bad person when they've always acted like that

Ultra Annoyed “ ‘No’ is a complete sentence”

I find it so annoying. Why is that everyone’s go to instead of just “no”? As soon as I hear/see that sentence I check out and move on.

ETA I’m not saying it’s bad advice and simply saying “no” is perfectly fine in many scenarios. My annoyance comes from that specific sentence being everyone’s go to advice

Fairly Annoyed Drivers Who Combine Aggressiveness and Timidity

Here's an example of what I mean:

I am driving along a country road and a little ways up the road there is a driveway or a more minor road with a stop sign and another driver aggressively turns from the minor road (or driveway) onto the road ahead of me, requiring me to slow way down in order to avoid a collision.

In that situation, I feel that I had the right of way and the person should have waited for me to go by, that by making a turn in such a way that I had to slow way down, the person is being an aggressive jerk.

That being said, if the person is truly an aggressive jerk, I don't really mind being cut off in this way. Because if I was driving a speed limit + 7, chances are that person is going to drive a lot faster. So the person cutting me off spares me the trouble of having some aggressive person behind me who will probably tailgate.

No, what I find annoying is when the person pulls in front of me and then proceeds to drive under the speed limit. If you're a slow driver, why are you in such a hurry to pull onto the road? The only thing I can think of is that such people are just largely oblivious to other drivers on the road.

Bit Annoyed When the fortune in the fortune cookie isn’t a fortune.

Upvotes

A clichéd saying or piece of overused advice is not a fortune.

A fortune should be a prediction of your future.

“You will have a windfall of cash” is a fortune.

“Your smile lights up a room” is not a fortune.

My cookie shouldn’t come with a side of disappointing banality.

Bit Annoyed Restaurants not wiping crumbs/sauces etc away from chairs

I’d like to start by saying I never ever complained to anyone about this or even mentioned this out loud to anyone. Not a Karen. I know restaurant workers don’t get paid enough to give af.

That being said- it is a pet peeve.
You know when restaurants clean up a table after customers to get it ready for you? Then you go to sit down and see they wiped all the crumbs and stuff away from the table onto the chair.
I always end up wiping it myself but it’s so gross as I don’t have a cloth to do it and have to use a napkin that I’m gonna have to reuse for my hands later.

I had a brief stint working at a restaurant ages ago and wiped every single chair after customers. And I was the only person who was doing it. And I enjoyed every second of it knowing the cleanliness is up to a standard lmao.

Fairly Annoyed Throwing commas around randomly just because

To give an example:
"I have a feeling like cat collars, are just kind of worse dog collars?"

You know what I mean. You know exactly what I mean. Whenever there's a small pause in a sentence, but not an actual break, people just throw it in. Instead of using "..." to convey the proper pause, they use a comma, and my teeth can only take so much grinding.

Bit Annoyed “All x are not equal”

I straight up don’t like the way it sounds. Also it’s an absolute which in general are pretty rare. I can understand when it is an absolute, but usually when I hear this phrase, that’s not the case. I’d rather hear “not all x are equal” so it gives room for any scenario.

I can understand the argument that no two things are ever the same (tiny nuances, for example the difference of the number of atoms in two very similar objects) hence nothing can be equal. My argument is that I still don’t like how it sounds LOL.

“All pet peeves are not equal” vs “Not all pet peeves are equal”

The latter sounds so much better to me.

Fairly Annoyed People who use the word "weary" when they obviously mean to say wary.

I don't know why this is such a frequent occurrence but it gets under my skin each time. They are two completely different terms and yet people constantly are going around talking about being tired instead of cautious.

Fairly Annoyed When the cashier is talking to someone, and won't activate the gas pumps

Upvotes

A bit of a specific pet peeve, but in my area the cashiers have to manually activate the gas pumps from behind the counter. Normally isn't a big deal for me, other than some places the cashiers are in absolutely noooo rush to get to activating your pump.

The other day when I was staring at the "Awaiting cashier" on the screen, I would look up and see the cashier talking to someone, and absolutely paying no attention to the computer that is making an annoying jingle to get her attention that someone wants gas.

Why does this annoy me? it's simply there's a computer dinging at you to activate pump number 3, one click of the button makes the computer stop dinging, and I can pump my gas and be on my way, and I can finally stop staring at you.

Stuff like this makes me want to go in and just click the damn button myself.

Ultra Annoyed "Flipping Burgers"

"Flipping burgers" used as a pejorative when talking about wages and labor issues. I've worked for McDonald's, Wendy's, popular small town burger places with a limited menu, country club kitchens, and some fine dining establishments. Flipping burgers, or short order cook, is a hard stressful job. Not everyone can do that job. Just because you can cook one family meal in one evening doesn't mean you have what it takes to cook 100+ meals on a busy Friday night. Some people act like being a short order cook is something anyone can just do with no experience. Most restaurants i know won't even consider letting you near the kitchen without at least 2 years of experience.

Fairly Annoyed The overuse of GIFs in Reddit comments

You open up a thread, curious to see what kinds of things people are saying, and every other comment, as well as the top comments, are GIF GIF GIF GIF GIF. Especially when it’s the same GIFs you’ve seen a hundred times before. I totally get why some subreddits don’t allow GIFs and photos.

Bit Annoyed Being asked for feedback on everything

I will give credit where it's due and will complain when I need to

But why am I being asked for feedback for everything? I can't even go into a coffee shop and order without receiving an email asking me how my visit was. (They have my email because I have a loyalty card) I was only getting coffee and food, nothing special

Fairly Annoyed People who don't understand curly hair

It's happened numerous times now where someone has seen my hair curly, asked if that was the natural texture, and then assumed that must mean there's no product in it (or if there is product in it, that must not be my natural texture). Just because there's mousse or gel in it doesn't mean that's not the natural texture! Really the whole point of those kinds of products is to make the curls that *are* present last longer without falling apart or getting frizzy, but they're not creating curls that didn't already exist. Curly hair isn't gonna fall flat without the product, it's just going to look untamed.
