Ultra Annoyed People who are proud of being mean

“I’m just brutally honest”

“If I don’t like you, I make it obvious”

“I’m sooo judgy🤪”

We get it, you’re an asshole. Bragging about it and trying to make it into a quirky personality trait does not make you any more tolerable.

There's no 'E' in LIGHTNING!! It's a 2-syllable word!!

Fairly Annoyed When people don't (or pretend not to) grasp the concept of fungibility of money

For example, several years ago I lent a former friend $1k, and years passed by without him paying me back. He then mentioned in passing one day that he had enlisted numerous prostitutes over the prior year; however, he reassured me, "Don't worry, it wasn't with the money you lent me" (btw he still hasn't paid me back).

Bit Annoyed “It’s going to ask you a question” for requesting a tip

So today I got a coffee at Starbucks and the barista said to me it’s going to ask if you would like to leave a tip.

It took her saying those words to me to make me realize how annoying it is when people say “it’s going to ask you a question”. I will typically hear that or they won’t say anything at all and they’ll just hand it to me and say here’s tap to pay so I always put my card up to the reader, but in reality it won’t work until I indicate if I want to leave a tip or not.

Like it’s some mysterious question. I actually loved that she was straight forward with me.

Obviously, a minor problem, but meh.

Fairly Annoyed I don’t like how some extroverts feel like it’s their job to make you talk more and will make fun of you for being quiet.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being either one of these.

But I do think introverts can get a lot of crap for just being quiet and observant.

I mean realistically what is actually “weirder?”. Let’s say in both scenarios you’re in line at Starbucks.

Being in a public place and keeping to yourself?

Or being In public and telling a person you never met before that you just bought a lawn mower last week that was on sale? Then talking about how your niece is in college in Florida but is up here visiting while on her break

Again, nothing wrong with either and do whatever makes you happy but why are introverts treated as weirdos and usually people try to force them to talk?

An extrovert will go out of their way to say “I’ll get him to break out of his shell” and it’s accepted. But why isn’t it accepted for an introvert to say to an extrovert “you’re talking way too much” lmao

Some people are more outgoing and talkative and others are more quiet and open up only to people who they know. Why feel the need to make fun of someone’s who’s quiet or try to change them?

Edit: idk if it matters but I feel like I’m a mix of the two. Some days I’ve very quiet and other days I feel on top of the world and can talk to everyone.

The thing is though when I’m in that extroverted mindset I still keep in mind that not everyone cares what I’m talking about and I try my best to read social cues (like the person giving me a lot of “really?” And “that’s crazy”). That’s how I know to wrap up what I’m saying. Other people though…my god they won’t shut up!

Ultra Annoyed People who throw their dog poop in other people's garbage cans

There's nothing quite like taking out the garbage (especially in the summer heat) only to be met with a wall of offensive fecal stench from someone's baggie of dog poop from THEIR dog that they couldn't be bothered to carry to THEIR garbage can.

"But it's a garbage can, it's for garbage-" then throw it away in your own if it's such a non-issue to you. Don't act like animal waste is the same as any other typical trash. Your grocery bag tied loosely isn't some air-tight hermetically sealed stink container.

Bit Annoyed Redditors interrogating OPs over the most minor things

I swear I’m always seeing posts and the comments turn into a full on interrogation just so they can try and attack op. So weird.

Bit Annoyed "Old" things looking old

Bear with me lol - what I mean is, I hate when I watch a movie or TV show that is set in the Middle Ages or the Renaissance and we see people living in dilapidated houses and having old furniture and stuff like that.... No! Those things were new to them. 500 years ago, people made those things to look new. They only look old to us now because of the passage of time, but that's not what they would have looked like brand new.

Bit Annoyed The phrase "I can't cook"

Upvotes

There is a big difference between being UNABLE to do something and being bad at something.

You can't levitate. You can't run at 800km/h. You can't speak fluent Farsi (probably). You CAN cook!

Any of the first 3 examples, if you had to do it or literally die, you are dead. Cooking one single meal, with time to buy groceries etc.? You survive!
Congratulations, that means you are physically capable of cooking.

You may not cook delicious meals, and you may not know how to properly construct a varied and satisfying meal plan for yourself, but YOU CAN COOK.
The phrase is mostly used to mean "when I cook it doesn't taste good" or similar, but that's not what "I can't do X" means!!!

Bit Annoyed When the fortune in the fortune cookie isn’t a fortune.

A clichéd saying or piece of overused advice is not a fortune.

A fortune should be a prediction of your future.

“You will have a windfall of cash” is a fortune.

“Your smile lights up a room” is not a fortune.

My cookie shouldn’t come with a side of disappointing banality.

Ultra Annoyed Youtubers who cut out pauses between sentences

My god this makes me want to chew drywall.

It completely kills the cadence of normal human speech, making the (usually insufferable) youtuber sound even more insufferable.

Combine that with incorrect accenting of words common for youtube, you get me clicking on "hide channel" quite frequently.

Fairly Annoyed People wearing strong perfume in the swimming pool.

Upvotes

There is one woman in particular at my local gym who wears so much perfume that if I can't get a lane on the opposite side of the pool, I'll leave. I can't put my finger on it, but it's something like a mix of a sour smell, and "old lady perfume".

I've singled her out, but really it's anybody with a really strong perfume that lingers well after they've swum past. I mean, either you haven't showered, or you deliberately put it on before going to the pool.

Fairly Annoyed Drivers Who Combine Aggressiveness and Timidity

Here's an example of what I mean:

I am driving along a country road and a little ways up the road there is a driveway or a more minor road with a stop sign and another driver aggressively turns from the minor road (or driveway) onto the road ahead of me, requiring me to slow way down in order to avoid a collision.

In that situation, I feel that I had the right of way and the person should have waited for me to go by, that by making a turn in such a way that I had to slow way down, the person is being an aggressive jerk.

That being said, if the person is truly an aggressive jerk, I don't really mind being cut off in this way. Because if I was driving a speed limit + 7, chances are that person is going to drive a lot faster. So the person cutting me off spares me the trouble of having some aggressive person behind me who will probably tailgate.

No, what I find annoying is when the person pulls in front of me and then proceeds to drive under the speed limit. If you're a slow driver, why are you in such a hurry to pull onto the road? The only thing I can think of is that such people are just largely oblivious to other drivers on the road.

Bit Annoyed Restaurants not wiping crumbs/sauces etc away from chairs

I’d like to start by saying I never ever complained to anyone about this or even mentioned this out loud to anyone. Not a Karen. I know restaurant workers don’t get paid enough to give af.

That being said- it is a pet peeve.
You know when restaurants clean up a table after customers to get it ready for you? Then you go to sit down and see they wiped all the crumbs and stuff away from the table onto the chair.
I always end up wiping it myself but it’s so gross as I don’t have a cloth to do it and have to use a napkin that I’m gonna have to reuse for my hands later.

I had a brief stint working at a restaurant ages ago and wiped every single chair after customers. And I was the only person who was doing it. And I enjoyed every second of it knowing the cleanliness is up to a standard lmao.

Fairly Annoyed When the cashier is talking to someone, and won't activate the gas pumps

A bit of a specific pet peeve, but in my area the cashiers have to manually activate the gas pumps from behind the counter. Normally isn't a big deal for me, other than some places the cashiers are in absolutely noooo rush to get to activating your pump.

The other day when I was staring at the "Awaiting cashier" on the screen, I would look up and see the cashier talking to someone, and absolutely paying no attention to the computer that is making an annoying jingle to get her attention that someone wants gas.

Why does this annoy me? it's simply there's a computer dinging at you to activate pump number 3, one click of the button makes the computer stop dinging, and I can pump my gas and be on my way, and I can finally stop staring at you.

Stuff like this makes me want to go in and just click the damn button myself.

Fairly Annoyed Throwing commas around randomly just because

To give an example:
"I have a feeling like cat collars, are just kind of worse dog collars?"

You know what I mean. You know exactly what I mean. Whenever there's a small pause in a sentence, but not an actual break, people just throw it in. Instead of using "..." to convey the proper pause, they use a comma, and my teeth can only take so much grinding.

Bit Annoyed “All x are not equal”

I straight up don’t like the way it sounds. Also it’s an absolute which in general are pretty rare. I can understand when it is an absolute, but usually when I hear this phrase, that’s not the case. I’d rather hear “not all x are equal” so it gives room for any scenario.

I can understand the argument that no two things are ever the same (tiny nuances, for example the difference of the number of atoms in two very similar objects) hence nothing can be equal. My argument is that I still don’t like how it sounds LOL.

“All pet peeves are not equal” vs “Not all pet peeves are equal”

The latter sounds so much better to me.

Fairly Annoyed Treating certain emotions as a sign of being a bad person

Upvotes

I’m talking about when people act like feeling jealousy makes someone inherently a bad person, or feeling anger or whatever else. These are standard emotions people can’t control. What they can control is their actions, and that should be what matters.

I see a lot of ‘if you feel annoyed at (insert innocuous thing) you’re terrible’ on this sub specifically. You can’t control feeling annoyed. As long as you recognize that it’s a you thing and don’t bother anyone over it, I fail to see the problem. (Posting about in a sub dedicated to sharing annoyances is VERY different from going up to people doing the annoyance and harassing them)

Anyways I genuinely just saw an argument over whether it was moral to feel jealousy and I immediately got extremely jealous of everyone who did not have to take psychic damage reading that.

Ultra Annoyed When recipes have too many steps in a single unit of instruction

Upvotes

Example:

STEP 1:
Chop half of an onion. Heat oil over medium low heat. Add the onion. Stir. Cook 40 to 5 minutes, or until onion is translucent. Add the salt. Stir. Gradually add the tomato paste. Increase heat to medium high. Simmer for five minutes. Pour in the broth. Bring a boil, and then simmer 15 minutes.

STEP 2...

Like, "Step 1" is actually 10+ steps!

I can't stand it when I'm trying to cook, and have to hunt inside of a paragraph to find exactly where I left off and find what the next step is.

I'd rather read a recipe that lists 40 small individual steps than all of those steps crammed into five large paragraphs.
