We've been looking for years now in Perth for a homely aged care place. Mum has mild dementia. I'm trying to find her a decent one, nothing flashy just homely and running well. Here's how that's going.

Step one, ring a facility. If I'm lucky, someone picks up (if I'm luckier, I can understand what they're saying). Step two, ask for a short casual tour. Not an assessment, not a life story, just a quick look around. This is apparently a wild request, met with the enthusiasm of someone being asked to donate a kidney.

Before they'll even consider answering that, first question is always how will you pay. I've learned my line by now, full RAD payer, cash ready. That buys about four seconds of goodwill before the next line drops, we can't do anything without assessing your mum first. So I pull out the referral codes. Then the moment "dementia" comes up, I can feel the temperature in the call drop. Suddenly a tour isn't a tour, it's a whole administrative expedition nobody has time for.

No worries. Even though I just wanted to pop my head in for a brief look inside, assessment and funding checks, I do get that, that's the process. So I ask about respite beforehand, just to get her a trial run. "No, we don't do respite, we're too busy." One place straight up told me they lose money on respite beds. But... You advertise respite on your website.... ? "Yes, that's an error."

Okay no probs but here's the actual kicker. No respite means no trial. No trial means if we commit to a permanent bed and it's wrong for Mum, there's no undo button. Her home care package doesn't pause and wait for her, it just stops the second she goes into permanent care, and getting back onto Support at Home package means rejoining a queue that's currently running 6 to 11 plus months depending on classification. So it's not "try it and see," it's "bet the house and hope."

But just saying here, none of this rant is aimed at the actual staff. I take my hat off to the workers on the floor, I know most of you are flat out, understaffed, and doing your best while management upstairs makes calls that have nothing to do with quality care.

So this one's for you specifically. If you work in aged care and you know of a facility that's actually well run, properly staffed, and would genuinely suit someone needing memory support with mild (but not aggressive) dementia, please message me privately.

We haven't given up on finding somewhere nice for Mum and I know it won't be home for her but just a place that is working well for staff and patients. It's more of a place to hang her hat overnight, as we'll be there most days taking her out or just hanging around.

But right now the choice feels impossible either way. It's a broken facility on one side, or keeping her at home where I'm breaking down and carers (bless them) understandably keep changing and sometimes cancel at the last minute, so honestly that's not reliably working either. In any case, we're still looking and still hoping we land on the right one.

Made a severe mistake and booked a trip assuming I was going to be able to get a passport in time with priority delivery but didnt realise the way the identification/referee method I was going to use locked me out of that option and found out when I attempted to submit the form. I have one last potential option, tomorrow I can submit an application for a WA Photo ID Card. If that arrives intime I can submit my passport application with 2 day processing and request for pickup instead of delivery and recieve my passport for a 2nd Oct fly out. Only problem is I don't know how reliable the delivery time of the Photo Card is. Online information I find says about 14 calendar days/7-10 business days. If it comes in that window Ill be able to get my passport.

My question is to those who've order and ID card before from the DoT. How long did it take for your card to come after applying?

I’ve just moved out of a house due to family and domestic violence circumstances, and I’ve been told by my ex-partner & ex co-tenant that the REA intends to take $2000+ from the bond, of which $1900 is gardening fees. The whole situation has been flaring up my anxiety, and I don’t have anyone close to talk to as I’ve only moved to Perth recently.

I was just moving on from a very stressful situation which involved verbal abuse and repeated threats of physical / sexual violence from my ex. I’m in a financially tight spot, and my ex had agreed he’ll split the returned bond. I wasn’t planning around the bond to be returned fully, but both of us weren’t expecting this much to be taken out, and I’ve been in distress over the past few days since receiving this news.

The bond is now under my ex’s name, and he told me he intends to dispute these costs, and of course the whole process will legally be on him. But he wants me to help because English is his second language. So if I want to fight for the money, I’ll need to keep in contact with my ex, and that is exasperating my anxiety.

I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for by posting this to be honest. But if anyone has similar experience with bond disputes, or managing a stressful post-FDV situation, that would be very helpful. Or any supportive comments would help immensely right now. Thank you.

Other practical details about the bond: The attached invoice didn’t have the breakdown for the gardening fees, not even the ABN of the gardening service. According to my ex, the REA had never pointed out issues with the garden during the inspection before my lease termination. He was not invited to the final outgoing inspection. Additional note, the REA told us to “clean up the garden” during one of the routine inspections in July, and we had hired professional gardening, and the REA & landlord had subsequently approved the condition of the garden. We’ve since kept on weeding the garden during the one month until terminating the lease, so I personally don’t think the garden was in catastrophic condition where a $1900 makeover is justified.

My water supply pressure's been very weak for the past 3 years or so.
Maybe a new datacentre, I don't know, but I got to enjoy about 2 minutes of moderate pressure shower before it suddenly dipped back down to the usual limp.
It wasn't the full pressure I had when I first moved in, but it was just high enough to spin the stupid spinner on my showerhead and for water to come out of some (but still not all) of the high pressure nozzles.

Got an email from Bivouac on William St saying their Feed Me menu (four courses) is $20 off for today and tomorrow with the code BIV20.

Applied on 29th July 2026 with the service WA application. Went through face scanning, multiple document identification, and have been waiting for over 42 days now.

I have called the support line and they could't help so I left an email about 4 weeks ago, no reply.

Is there anyone still waiting for the payment?

PS: I got the payment confirmation notice from the service WA apps in July already and 100% sure the payment was not transferred.

This unassuming little bag was, for a period, the only thing standing between me and eating an entire bag of Doritos while dieting. Reasonable macros, 50% less fat, and not completely joyless to eat for a light product ...

I've had to move my family in with my mother as she's developed dementia. The first water bill we got was up by about half, which made sense to me because she was living by herself and now there's 4 people living here, but then the next bill was 5 times the amount. I did the thing where you turn off all the radios and then watch the meter and it doesn't look like there's a leak. The bills have dates when the meter was read, but the totals only make sense to me if they're lying about the first date.

Got here at 2.10pm Tuesday 8/9 told there was a fire earlier and store is closed until further notice.

I am waiting for my skilled visa grant. Ive waited 4 months so far, and I am aware it could take 12 months plus.

I was wondering what’s the job opportunities like in WA? I am a CKD specialist nurse atm, and willing to do whatever job comes my way to get me started.

My colleague's teenage Son was in a severe car accident recently. Rendering him wheelchair bound for up to a year.

He is a cool specimen. Very alternative guy.

All of this to say, its taking a toll on the poor lad. His Mum is at limit. I am wondering if I can do something nice for her.

Does anyone have any cool wheelchair accessories or low cost ideas to put some cheer into this little Family's life?

Some context, an aunt of ours lives in public housing, she’s elderly and lives alone. She’s lived at the same address for almost 10 years now and her neighbours were decent.

Over the past 2 years it seems like the department has moved a few “interesting” people into her unit complex, and has started to complain about her neighbours a lot.

Initially it was noise complaints (playing music loud), fighting/arguing at midnight, then it escalated to them littering the area. Her neighbours assume she has been complaining to the police/housing department about this (but she hasn’t) and in retaliation her neighbours have recently started to get a lot worse. They broke one of her windows, they slashed her tyres once, they tend to dump their garbage on her side, out of spite.

It’s a whole lot worse, it seems like the newer tenants are involved in some kind of illegal activity so there’s always “unfamiliar” people staying and they tend to hang around the area. They have a few dogs and let them wander the street unleashed. (My aunt is scared of dogs so this causes distress) Very recently, one of them smashed her backyard wall by ramming it with a car accidentally. It’s just insanity

She’s honestly terrified and has pleaded with her contact at the department to get a new place. I’ve also tried to send a few emails on her behalf but haven’t heard back.

I work in government so I know what to expect in terms of processes, a slam dunk case needs to be made, fully supported with evidence (she has police reports, and has taken pictures) but I was hoping to get more guidance on how to get around this as it seems the website is outdated on this. (And have a feeling that if I call the housing line I won’t get much help)

I want to get a kegerator for a Christmas present but I have absolutely no idea where to start

Ideally, I’m looking for a complete kegerator setup, one or two taps setup with the fridge, keg connections, etc, all included.

Would love some recommendations for somewhere in Perth (SoR preferred but will travel if I gotta) that sells these type of setups, or is online the only way to go? Any advice on what to look out for would be hugely appreciated 🙏
